In A CRY OF HONOR (Book #4 in the Sorcerer's Ring), Thor has returned from The Hundred as a hardened warrior, and now he must learn what it means to battle for his homeland, to battle for life and death. The McClouds have raided deep into MacGil territory—deeper than ever before in the history of the Ring—and as Thor rides into an ambush, it will fall on his head to fend off the attack and save King’s Court.

Godfrey has been poisoned by his brother by a very rare and potent poison, and his fate lies in Gwendolyn’s hands, as she does whatever she can to save her brother from death.

Gareth has fallen deeper into a state of paranoia and discontent, hiring his own tribe of savages as a personal fighting force and giving them Silver Hall—ousting The Silver and causing a rift in King’s Court that threatens to blow up into a civil war. He also schemes to have the fierce Nevaruns take Gwendolyn away, selling her off in marriage without her consent.

Thor’s friendships deepen, as they journey to new places, face unexpected monsters and fight side by side in unimaginable battle. Thor journeys to his hometown and, in an epic confrontation with his father, he learns a great secret of his past, of who he is, who his mother is—and of his destiny. With the most advanced training he’s ever received from Argon, he begins to tap powers he didn’t know he had, becoming more powerful each day. As his relationship with Gwen deepens, he returns to King’s Court in the hopes of proposing to her—but it may already be too late.

Andronicus, armed with an informer, leads his million-man Empire army to once again attempt to breach the Canyon and crush the Ring.

And just as things seem like they can’t get any worse at King’s Court, the story ends with a shocking twist.

Will Godfrey survive? Will Gareth be ousted? Will King’s Court split in two? Will the Empire invade? Will Gwendolyn end up with Thor? And will Thor finally learn the secret of his destiny?

With its sophisticated world-building and characterization, A CRY OF HONOR is an epic tale of friends and lovers, of rivals and suitors, of knights and dragons, of intrigues and political machinations, of coming of age, of broken hearts, of deception, ambition and betrayal. It is a tale of honor and courage, of fate and destiny, of sorcery. It is a fantasy that brings us into a world we will never forget, and which will appeal to all ages and genders. At 85,000 words, it is the longest of all the books in the series!

it's a good book and a good book series but it's so predictable so many scenes are the same and i just know these books could have been so much better for instance if someone almost dies and someone else helps them everything it's "i owe you one" and then they will reply with 1 of 3 phrases like "No you don't" or "were even" etc and this happens for so many things like the kissing scenes it's always they kiss for a very long time or something simplistic like that and they always say the exact same thing the author doesn't change things up at all or keep you guessing i mean the idea and everything is the plot for a great story i can help but think if another author wrote it it would be just as good as some of my favorite series but this series will not be considered a favorite of mine by far it had the potential to be but the author kinda ruined it i think it's something that i would have written and i'm not that graceful and captivating with words but even tho it's no where near as good as i wished it's still okay but still a total let down of what it could have been it's still somewhat appealing after all i'm still reading but only cause i don't know have another good series to read

it was an amazing book. Thor returns from the hundreds, and now he has to learn to battle for his home land. Godfrey tries to poison his brother but she does everything to save him.

mmmm just ok. The first 3 books are a fun read. By the forth I started wondering why I was continuing. Neither the Author or the main character of Thor seem to be evolving quickly enough for me. As mentioned in earlier reviews there is too much repetition and Thor pretty much comes off as an idiot. He has all of these unique powers, but only remembers them before his impending death which has happened about 10 times so far.

other peculiarities/repetitions (spoilers):

- Gwen seems to have a storage of "special places" that no one knows about, but has to show them to Thor every few chapters. As a princess she has no attendants which is weird, but I guess that's why it took her a few chapters to hear that her brother Kendrick was charged with her fathers murder and thrown into the dungeon while she pinned for Thor.

- I am almost through this book, but have to stop. There is this strange side story line about a great knight named Erec. This particular knight is the champion for the McGill Court. Pretty much the demi hero that all the women want to merry and all the men envy. Anyway apparently if a knight isn't wed by his 26th birthday a wife will be chosen for him. So when he turns 25 he decides to go on some quest to find a wife. Meanwhile in the previous book his king is murdered. Although Erec is out traveling I am completely mystified as to how this news hasn't reached him and I am almost through the 4th book.

- Thor has unique powers that he is trying to figure out and master. In several battles he comes off as the hero and no one seems to ask.... how in the hell did you do that?

I love fantasy, but I need it to make sense and have a believable flow. This series doesn't. On a positive note this series and author should give all inspiring authors inspiration to get out there and get their own works published. If Morgan Rice can do it, so can you.

So I read books 1-4 a few years back and just re-read this one and may I say WHY DID I READ THIS???
First of all, it's so predictable. And SO LONG. It basically draws out a few events that could happen over a span of maybe 4 books instead of 15 or whatever crazy number this is.
Secondly, why does Gwen have all these secret places, no attendants, and no guards? Her guards are never there when she needs them!
Thirdly, by now one of Thor's friends would have been killed. They ALWAYS miraculously survive and are heroes. I mean come on! No one is questioning how on earth Thor always wins?
Fourth, (CONTENT) there were a couple bad words and mentions of cursing. There are also mentions of kissing (like, a lot of kissing)
Fifth, okay so Thor and Gwen love each other. It makes sense, I like it, but do they ALWAYS have to kiss whenever they see each other? Come on!
Finally, it's just very cliche and drawn out and the magic makes no sense. It's always coming in right when they need it the most.
(Also, note that they are always saying stuff like 'she prayed to God and threw, her aim was true and the dagger pirced the man's armor' if I had a penny for every time they said 'his/her aim was true' I would have two dollars or something crazy. JUST BECAUSE YOU PRAY TO GOD BEFORE YOU THROW DOES NOT MEAN THAT EVERY TIME YOU WILL HIT THE TARGET)
And Thor's small group of friends are always wreaking havoc on the battlefield, and Gwen took down quite a few men herself, so if they are all really this good wouldn't the 'bad guys' be afraid of them?
My friends, this is not a good book. (Especially for my Christian friends)

I've come to realize that this series isn't and probably never will be the great epic fantasy that it appears to be at first glance. It's not very well written (it's not particularly badly written either) and the story is full of fantasy cliches. I have described this series as a Fantasy Epic Soap Opera to friends and family because that's what it feels like most of the time. The character's emotions are always over the top and every dramatic event that could possibly happen does in fact happen. I feel like a lot of this is so that the author could take up as many pages with filler events so that she could stretch out the story over the 17 books when I'd guess it could probably have been six or seven books total. I gave this book three stars because there was some improvement in the story from Book 3 (the third book was so bad I couldn't read this one for several months) and especially in the second half of the book there was a lot going on and it was a fun read. I will continue to read the series but I doubt that any of them will be better than this three star read.

I do enjoy this series but boy is it repetitive and slow going! 4 books in and finally something exciting is happening.
If I have to read another sentence about how Thor finally feels like he belongs I will scream! Just some stuff is repeated too much and gets annoying. Bit more fast paced than the last book thankfully.
Interesting to see how many books this story takes up. Hopefully we won't be waiting long for no 5.

++SPOILERS++

Yeah, now I understand the bad reviews. True fantasy lovers would not like this series. BUT! ROMANCE lovers will. That is, if you don't mind clean romance..(no detailed sex). So this is why I am enjoying this series.

I have always preferred a good story with romance more than a strictly romance driven one, so this series works well for me. Strict Fantasy readers would most likely NOT like this.

There are too many illogical things going on that need to be overlooked in order to enjoy the books. I can usually do this depending on what the illogical stuff is.

For example, why didn't Steffen and Gwen take the soldiers horses and escape the Nevaruns when the army approached? They just killed a dozen on horseback, surely their horses were still there ready for the taking. Also, why do they not just overthrow the rotten King Gareth? They could do it with Thors powers ..the excuse we are given s that they didn't want to start a civil war. Lame. Anyone could see that it was unavoidable. And who would fight on the kings behalf in a civil war? He pissed off everyone. Including the nobles by thriling their taxes. Illogical.

Again, people get broken ribs and are up and walking fully healed except for a limp..within a few hours. This I have been rolling my eyes at constantly.

I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not, but the author doesn't like killing her characters. It's always those "unknown" Legion soliders that end up getting killed. Never any main characters. And this happens in every battle. I guess it's a good thing, but at the same time, I never worry about the outcome of a battle, nor do I worry about people escaping dungeons..they always do, unharmed.

On a good note, this book starts out action packed and the action keeps going for quite some time. It really drew me in. The pace was good and I didn't skim.

We learn a bit more about Thor and his past. Argon (who always seems to appear as if plopped in by an unseen hand) also shows Thor a little bit more as to how to use his powers. We are left with Thor and his buddies leaving to head out to find the Destiny Sword which has been stolen and brought to the Empire. The Ring shield is down and the bad guys (the Empire) have crossed into the ring and are now destroying the McClouds Highlands. Gwen and the remaining Legion and Silvers, are off to start their own Kings court having denounced Gareth.

Overall, it's still enjoyable to me. Maybe because I went into this series knowing how bad the reviews were, my expectations were not so high, and maybe because I am used to romance books that have less plot. Who can say?

Theme concerns: The book opens with a rape, which is shown and mildly detailed (done by bad guy not hero). All heros and heroines fall instantly in love and don't cheat. No OW/OM issues. No past history of past loves male or female are mentioned. There is violence, blood, gore, and again McCloud whipping his horse in a beastly fashion.

In a clash of honor I feel like this book gets you the most excited for the next one because Andronicus the leader of the Empire attacks the ring because the Destiny Sword is stolen. I think this book gets you the most excited because you think can Thor get the destiny sword back before Andronicus and his million man army destroy the ring. I also feel in this book you start to realize how Thor is getting by taking on two hundred soldiers by him self.

These books are getting harder to read. The editing is so poor. I really like the story concept but the whole series is in need of a serious editor. Not sure if I will continue to the next book...

I have the bundle (4, 5,6), but wanted to give a short review for #4. I will admit that the book needs a thorough edit - typos, repetition and storyline mistakes - however, I am still enjoying this fantasy tale and am fascinated by Thor and his mysterious powers and heritage.

I like the fast writing style and tone, while some of the descriptions and world-building are good. I also like how it shows the thoughts and feelings of characters. Yes, some of it is a little cringe-worthy - especially the ease of falling in love and the similarities of various couples and their relationships, but it is sweet, if unrealistic.

Nevertheless, it is engaging and entertaining and, to me, that's the point of escapism. I just wish it was cheaper.

Recommended for those who enjoy easy fantasy.

Well I was wrong...this series just follows its steady decline to book #4 where all hell breaks loose. I am now convinced the writer is a complete idiot and the editor is just plain lazy. Aside from the glaring grammatical errors (which I would be willing to overlook) the timeline is so wrong its just sad. Examples: How can a kid on foot travel outside of the city and into a desolate part of the mountains in the space of an hour? Why does it only take the army one day to travel to a city that is a 3 day ride from the capital, fight a battle, win and travel back to celebrate their victory? How can the princess run(on foot) out of the palace, through the city, and into the mountains to a secret mountain lake that is so far away and secluded that no one else has ever found it, in the time it takes for the sun to rise? Seriously they are not even trying. I had to stop reading this book because I just couldn't take it anymore and I would never give up on a series 4 books in that wasn't this bad. (Believe me I have finished my share of bad series just to complete the story.)

Thankfully I did not spend any money on this series. This excerpt from another review sums up my feelings:
"So... The only reason I haven't smashed my eReader through the floor in a futile attempt to send this series straight to hell is because I did not use my own money to buy it"

Worst book series ever. Don't touch it. ever. for any reason. Save yourself.

Well, the books - if it is possible - are getting steadily worse. I really didn't think that was possible. Either characters are the epitamy of evil, or they are so incredibly stupid that I don't know how they live. I mean, this book is like a caricature of an evil empire but the problem is that the protagonist is a boy who is not very smart. Granted, he does brave things - but if he would just STOP for second and THINK it would have possibly have some redeeming qualities. i give up.

i have so much i could say, but it's late and I'm tired. i read the summaries of the remaining books -oh my gosh- there are 16 books in this series....16 *sigh* obviously this author is just milking this for whatever they can. But, after reading the summaries i was just floored. the series just goes off the deep end - into a pool with no water! Repetitive, poor grammar, unrealistic situations, everybody falls in love with someone by just seeing them without even meeting the person, evil abounds everywhere, people close their eyes to die because they "know this is it" but are saved (this happens at least 20 times) and so on and so on....

I haven't read the reviews for this series, but all I can say is....I tried.....

I read this book and had to get the other 16 in the series. I just could not put it down. Some days i read for 8 hours straight. What a great fantasy ride. So much is happening in these books but the author writes it so it is easy to follow, like several little stories happening in one book. The characters I found to visualize, like and or dislike quickly. Descriptions were intense and in depth enough to make me feel as I were there in the story as a character myself.

If you like action, romance, fantasy, magic, castles, knights, battles of good and evil and valor then you will love this series. There is gruesome killing but the author does not go into a deep description and make it gory. There is great love and romance but nothing even pg rated. Lots of fantasy but not to extravagant. It amazes me how creative this author is and I constantly wondered "what in the world will happen next?".

To me a perfect story, a perfect read, and i think it would make a great movie! Reminded me a bit of the "Lord of the Rings. I would highly recommend this series and this author to anyone that even considers these mixed genres.

I got hooked after reading the first one a couple days ago and now i can't stop -.- I love that these stories are making me feel like my old bookworm days. Honestly, after I'm done updating all my reads I'm going to go finish my current one XD

Oh, and what do i think so? Well, the repetitiveness of certain words and phrases irks me, and the language isn't very very advanced- so you wont find SAT words or anything, and there are certain parts of the book where the writing is just really bad, but I pass over it because I'm too enthralled in the story itself. I just really wanna see where Thor and Erec and yeah, everyone else goes. There are often times where I'm reading and its so much like GoT...but, like a younger age group's version I suppose. No where near the writing skill of George Martin, but along the same lines (evil queen, messed up son who's the king, elder daughter from a wallflower to a badass, the wilds... etc.) There's just a couple places here and there, even so, I am really enjoying the story. I guess maybe because its easy to keep up with and its satisfying! At certain times.

Yup.

Very poorly written

I can't remember the last time I was frustrated with a writing style, but this is author definitely had me restarted for a few different reasons. But first I'll share the "pros" about these books and their author.

He is extremely imaginative and has goog concepts for a good plot. The world is a very rich works he has crafted. It is filled with original creatures and sights.

But after 4 books praying that the author develops his writing style, I am disappointed. You will notice the book is riddled with typos and over used adjectives. In one party of the book he described the people's look of art three times by simply saying that they were in awe. He repeats words an incredible amount and shows the lack of a use with a thesaurus.

The other frustrating point is that the books are incredibly short and cut off very abruptly. It is like a slap across the face when you finish the book. I won't be continuing this series because I am too frustrated with the author.

I do wander if he self publishes our not, because I can't see a publisher allowing this to be printed without at least proofreading it first.

In this fourth episode, our hero Thor returns from his training in a distant island, together with other members of his group. Upon his return, he found that the McClouds have started an attach into their side of the Ring and he joins forces with his friends to prevent them from reaching further into their territory. But he is ambushed and his group have to battle against the whole McClouds army. In the meantime, Gwendolyn is trying to save her brother Godfrey, that was poisoned. Gareth is desperate trying to kill all his siblings. He hire a group of savages to take care of his own protection. Erec has his own adventures when searching for a wife and is unaware of what is going on in the Ring.
This episode brings a lot of action, but I strongly recommend you read the series from the beginning, so you fully understand the dynamic among the characters.
I recommend this book to the permanent library of all readers who love a well written story with a fascinating plot, that will keep you entertained for hours.

I do like the story and just finished the fourth book. I'm giving it only three stars, though, because I'm starting to get put off by the significant numbers of editing errors, the redundancy in story-telling--particular in the battle scenes, and the overwhelming number of incredible situations. The author has repeatedly used certain phrases, such as "the enemy stooped to the ground, dead." Also, the protagonists have a certain affinity for throwing weapons at a man's throat and for chopping off the legs of horses, both feats that I think would be exceedingly difficult. On many occasions, a small group of the good guys defeat hundreds of enemies, and a single footprint of some monster creates a canyon whose floor cannot even be seen. Yet the monster is later defeated by a single hero. Plus, author seems to hate adverbs, which can get a little old, irritating (to use the author's sentence structure). Still, it's a good story that keeps me interested, though I'm having to skip over certain predictable and/or unbelievable scenes.

Not only did this book have to be edited after it was published, as did the others, but she uses the same words to describe each and every scene. Thor's powers seem to just magically appear whenever he needs them, and the book never really says what his powers can do and how he uses them. The kisses between Thor and Gwen are literally always described as long. It is so irritating. I am in middle school and i could describe scenes better than her. On the other hand, the story is fantastic, and if you don't mind the grammar, its a great read.

**SPOILER ALERT**

My book reviews are written as a discussion of a book, and not as an advertisement. Please be aware that there may be information that some would consider spoilers. Continue on at your own risk!

Writing these reviews are like closure when I finish reading a book. I leave the book on my Kindle until I publish my review. Sometimes it’s a nice reflection where I appreciate the story as a whole. And sometimes it’s something I want to rush through to forget the experience of reading the book. I’m going to make this one short, in fact I’ll go ahead and combine books 4 and 5 in this review. Here is what I thought….

A Vow of Glory and A Clash of Honor

I'm just glad the story at the backbone of this series is interesting. This book was riddled with inconsistencies and major editing errors. Once again it felt rushed. There are far better ways to go about describing scenes and building characters without being so repetitive, but then again a more skilled writer would know this already and have improved over time. This series reads like a beginner novelist... i.e. something I would have produced during a college writing class or thrown together during NaNo WriMo. The only reason I give it three stars is because of the story behind the poor writing skill. I'm really sorry I bought the whole series right away, but glad they were dirt cheap.

5 STARS***** Totally Hooked on this Series!!!!! Can't wait to read next book!!!!

Wonderful fantasy adventure of our young hero, Thor as he comes of age, not only as a man, but begins to come in to his own as a druid sorcerer. His romance with the princess Gwendolyn grows and they begin to have glimpses of their destiny in the world. Fierce battles, court intrigue, loyalty and honor punctuate this tale. Can the kingdom be saved from evil Gareth who has usurped the throne by the blood of his father and against enemies near and far? Will Thor find happiness with Gwendolyn? Will Gwendolyn gain her throne, her father's last wish? I can't wait to find out! HAPPY READING!!!!!

Another part to the fantastic series about Thor, a commoner working his way up in the legion. He fought his way into the ranks and discovered along the way that he was not some ordinary youth but that he was half druid. His powers ebb and grow as he discovers more about himself. With his faithful leopard cub and his falcon he struggles to learn about his mysterious past and win the love of the princess, and survive the assassination plots.

If you want to find out more you will have to read the book. A must read for all fantasy readers. I hear there are about 13 books in this series. Can't wait to sink my teeth into book 5.

Well done Morgan, you are a talented story writer.

For the first three books, I provided a rating but no review. They were decent enough, and while I could reiterate the issues others have brought up, suffice it to say they are present but not distracting. This book, however, leaves much to be desired. Many of the characters are too over the top...to the point of being charicatures of themselves. Things happen way too easily for the bad guys and way too difficult for the good guys. This book was way too predictable for my tastes. My hope is that Rice's storytelling improves as the series progresses, but I'm not holding my breath.

I am hoping the writing gets better as the series progresses. In this book, once again, in a scene with Luanda, she calls the character Gwen. That happened in previous book too. I feel like the writer is not proofreading her own work.

There is also something fundamentally juvenile in the storytelling. Not that I could do any better... It is definitely hard to spin a yarn... But I wish it had more. I don't know how to describe it... More is the best I can come up with.

But with all that being said the plot is fine enough to keep reading for a little longer.

I feel like the next book should be a drinking game. Every time something does not make sense... take a drink... except I usually listen to the audible version while driving. Nope... not going to work.

I would really like to know how these guys are carrying so many weapons. Thor usually has his sling, sword, throwing dagger, shield, spears, mace, bow/arrows, etc... AND they're wearing full armor at all times... how do they move? Those poor horses!

On to book #5... because it was free and this is becoming entertaining.
