This was my first read by Lisa Renee Jones and, yay, it was excellent. How come I've never heard of her before? Why am I "complaining"? Do I really need to add more authors and books to my TBR? Hmmm, I guess I do! :)
Amanda Wright is finally living her dream. She's the new sports reporter for the Los Angeles Tribune, with her own semiweekly feature column in the sports section. On game days - and we're talking about the Major League Baseball and the Los Angeles Rays here - she gets space in the paper no matter what. She's hit the big time, and she's got to show her new boss she can deliver what it takes to keep her position. Getting involved with a Rays player is definitely not the way to do it, as it would damage her credibility as a reporter and ruin her career, but what if one particular player is too hard to resist?
Brad Rogers, the star pitcher for the Rays, has a reputation as a bad boy and has learned the hard way not to trust reporters. He's nice and friendly with them, aware that they're a "necessary evil", but he knows better than to let any of them close - especially now, with his contract up for renewal, his agent telling him to play it cool and stay out of trouble, and the big secret he's hiding... Getting involved with the Tribune's new reporter is everything he shouldn't do, yet the attraction might be too strong to resist.
With their careers at stake, his secret hovering over them and a scandal in the making that her boss pressures her to investigate, any relationship between Brad and Amanda is doomed to failure. Or is it?
That's the basic premise of this book, one of the best HQ Blaze stories I've ever read. I must say that the book description is a bit misleading, because Amanda was never torn between revealing Brad's secret and having an affair with him. The conflict in their relationship was rooted in their individual and antagonistic careers, and that was harder to overcome than the "simple" revelation of a secret. Brad was a ballplayer and Amanda was a sports reporter assigned to cover his team, none of them was likely to change their career so how could there be any future for their relationship?
I absolutely adored Brad and Amanda. They were very well drawn, with realistic motivations and fears, and had great chemistry. I loved the fact that they didn't let lust take over their senses right off the bat, even though they acknowledged the mutual attraction. That was a great way to build up sexual tension and, bonus point, move along the plot, as Brad and Amanda had believable reasons to want to keep their relationship strictly professional. So when they finally got together, there was more than just sex on the table bed, and I could feel it.
Brad was the ultimate sports hero. He was 6'3", blond, blue-eyed and had a "deliciously muscular body, with sculpted pecs and nicely defined abs." Yum! Quoting Amanda, "The man was a walking sex god." Have a look:
He was also charming, fun, loyal, and very persuasive when he went after what he wanted. His decision to keep a secret was perfectly understandable, and so was his wariness around Amanda. I got a little angry with him near the end of the book, but even that was understandable under the circumstances. He did have a lot on the line there.
Career-driven women can be tough to portray in a sympathetic manner in Romancelandia, but Amanda had the right balance between professional ambition and ethics. She could have revealed Brad's secret and made her name known nationally, but that wasn't how she worked. She was smart, determined, and strong without being pushy.
All in all, I really loved this book and have no complaints about it. Great characters, interesting plot, sizzling love scenes and a sigh-worthy HEA. What else was missing? Absolutely nothing! ABOUT THE BOOK: No playing with the players! For Amanda Wright—new reporter on the pro baseball block—this rule is harder to keep than she had thought. Hard and Fast was a standalone by Lisa Renee Jones. It was my first book by Jones.
Amanda Wright was a beautiful sports column reporter in Los Angeles. She was recently divorced and looking to make her way in a competitive man’s industry. She knew she needed to keep her reputation clean and earn the trust of her local team.
Brad Rogers was a gorgeous, confident and well loved MLB veteran star pitcher. He had a little bad publicity as well as a recent injury and was working his way past both while walking on eggshells. He was still privately nursing his injury and the last thing he needed was a gorgeous reporter snooping around.
Hard and Fast was told from a dual POV. It was a simple storyline; predictable yet enjoyable. Jones took us through the chase while giving us a realistic perspective of an MLB pitcher trying to stay on top and a sports reporter trying to forge her own path. I enjoyed the depth and details that Jones provided.
In the end, it was a quick read and entertaining. It was a stand-alone, but I would love to see a series. There were way too many hot professional athletes not to have a series....
Hard and Fast by Lisa Renee Jones was exactly how Brad and Amanda’s flirtatious relationship was, Hard and Fast. This was a hot and steamy Insta-love and angst free sport story.
Amanda Wright is this beautiful female reporter trying to catch the next big Story, but instead is caught by the all star pitcher Brad Rogers. They are both instantly drawn to each other, but have no time for a Relationships because they are to focus on their careers, but seem to forget this every time they are around each other because of their amazing connection.
In my opinion the story was a little rush and I didn’t really get to connect with both of the Characters. Their chemistry was just meh but again I think this was because the author rushed this story and didn’t give her readers any character development.
To be honest I picked this book up because of who was narrating the audiobook… Christian Fox and Ave Erickson which are both in my top 10 favorite narrators that I could listens too all day. 5 stars go to both of them for there performance.
2 stars. A very boring and surface level sports romance. I didn’t like any of the characters, the writing wasn’t that engaging and felt incredibly dated. I found that I was just super annoyed throughout the entire thing. Luckily, it is a very quick read but I’m not planning on reading book two because I don’t care enough to put myself through that.

My first ever M&B novel was a hit! Very sexy with a build up of both story and erotica in one. 16 year old me was hooked for years within the M&B franchise.
At first I wasnt sure about the story but at the end, I realized it was just a cute, low-angst love story and it was quite steamy. There was good pacing as well.
The narrators Christian Fox and Ava Erickson are the main reason I bought this audiobook. These two are my faves and this is the first series they are together! Of course I just had to get it! Their narration was perfect. Not over or under dramatic, it was just right.
«Oh, mio Dio» sibilò a denti stretti. Lentamente, Amanda incominciò a rilassarsi.
Sexy and Spicy quick read! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Amanda and Brad’s story of coming together and getting together is told in a dual POV... which I love! Amanda is new to paper covering sports reporting. She is working hard in a man world to make her name stick. I really adore her character and her integrity. Brad is falling hopelessly in love while hiding his injury.
Christian Fox and Ava Erickson’s narration of the story was smooth and they were a perfect choice as they made it sexier.
It's hard to describe my feelings about this book. It felt kind of stiff. It had all the right elements, but for some reason I just didn't connect with the characters. It's not that they were like cardboard cutouts, but more like things just didn't flow organically. Oddly I can't point to any one thing - it's just the story felt stiff. I liked Christian Fox and Ava Erickson a lot. The narration probably brought this up a notch. But the story just didn't pull me in - I was never invested in the characters or the story.
Loved the story of Amanda the strong woman, who deserved love even though her ex treated her like crap. Brad the arrogant playboy baseball player. He allowed himself to be pulled into a childish bet by the cocky rookie that could turn around and bite him in the but. Will Brad change and become the man Amanda needs or will he fail. A must read. Loved it, could not put it down.
Enjoyed this low angst story about Amanda a sports writer, and Brad a pitcher for an LA baseball team. Their relationship built pretty quickly, and there was enough to the story to keep me hooked. I am looking forward to the next book by this author.
Amanda always wanted to become the best sports reporter and now she finally hast the chance. She now works for one of the largest newspapers in LA, her editor is pressuring her to blew the readers away with her first story or resign. So her interviews with the baseball team Los Angelas Rays has to be fabulous, but she knows she has to prove herself towards the team if they want to trust her. And discovering that the team star pitcher is hiding an injury to his pitching arm can be the point to make her career but lose the respect of the team. So she hides this secret from her editor and hopes for the best.
Brad knows he has to avoid the press, especially this new reporter Amanda, because they weren’t exactly good to him during his injury time. The huge attraction between him and the gorgeous reporter is huge, but when he discovers she knows about his new injury, he knows he has to stay away from her. But the news doesn’t hit the papers and slowly Brad begins to trust her.
Hard and Fast by Lisa Renee Jones is a fabulous novel contains a group of handsome baseball men and some steamy scenes between the main characters.
Brad and Amanda were made for each other from the start. Although she is a reporter and could destroy his career when she discovers his secret and share it with the rest of the world, he falls hard for Amanda. But he definitely falls in love with her when she keep his secret and even finds a solution to heal his injured arm without anyone noticing.
Brad is the man every woman dreams about, good looking, sport man, has a sense of humour and he goes after what he wants…and that is Amanda. Amanda is determined to succeed in her career, but has compassion for others, especially when she discovers the star pitcher’s secret. She won’t make her career by destroying another ones.
Lisa Renee Jones has written another excellent novel. In the last couple of months I became a huge fan of her books, I definitely recommend them if you are looking for a great time.
4 stars Lisa Renee Jones creates a sweltering romance, which fittingly adheres to Harlequin's Blaze Line collection. Amanda Wright lands this exciting new job as a sports reporter for a Los Angeles paper. Being aware of how this job could be a breaking point in her anecdote for success. Unexpectedly she comes face to face with a challenge. Brad Rogers is that challenge. Amanda struggles to reconfirm her duties of sticking straight to the core of the business. How could she? With Brad's fantastic scrumptious looking body, Amanda finds it quite difficult to take her mind off her need to indulge in a passion that has been suppressed. Brad has his reservations not to pursue Amanda based on his initial undeniable attraction to her. Until now, when the stakes become high and the game requires that steadfast hard edge, there are more plays in the game. Yes, this swift read will take you on a sizzling hot adventure ride. Nevertheless, it has the tender and romantic elements displayed by characters that are full of meaning.

This is my first read by Lisa Renee Jones. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that I liked the story, it's been 10 yrs since reading a Harlequin Blaze book. Though it was a short and quick read, the characters were well rounded.
I have to admit at first it felt kind of awkward reading as the main characters are Amanda and Brad, which my daughters name is Amanda and her father is named Brad. Then further into the story Brad's team mates are Kurt & Casey which is my son & his girlfriends name. My question is where am I, Renee, oh wait, the author is Lisa Renee Jones, awesome, my entire family is in a book, lol.
Okay, Amanda is a reporter getting a break to interview for a major league baseball team. The first night she meets handsome star pitcher Brad, let's just say they hit it off great. Sex scenes are pretty steamy, thought for a blaze book it would have been hotter, however it was fun to see how the relationship between them develops.
The story was very well written, flowed extremely well throughout the entire book, I was not disappointed at all from beginning to end, left you wanting more, like there could easily be a part 2.
For some reason I had a hard time putting this one down. I was so deeply involved with this book I started reading it at 5 AM (insomniac) and I couldn't be buggered with getting out of bed until it was past 9 AM, then I moved on to not turning on the computer or the TV, I just kept on reading. With how captivated I was with this book, I have to put it on my favorites shelf. How can I not?
The book has a spunky lady journalist who has no trouble keeping up with the guys, she has her standard dose of insecurities any woman struggles with, she hooks up with a sexy star athlete - it's a recipe for a bomb of a book! The smut is smut-tastic, there is a real plot, you get real close to the characters, what else do you need?
I loved Amanda, and I loved Brad. Normally blondes don't do it for me, but the way Ms Jones has written Brad? Whoa momma!
Nette Unterhaltung.
This was a terrible book. The plot was flimsy, the characters shallow and unrealistic, and the writing repetitive and facile.
That being said, it was a mindless way to pass the time while I was stuck in a 15 hour traffic jam in Indonesia, which is the only reason it is getting 2 stars instead of 1.
I REALLY love this book. It's one of those that I reread. (Yes, Allia, there are naked people on the cover, but I'm running out of books where there aren't any naked people!)
I enjoyed this book as it was my first Lisa Renee Jones read! The story had some sizzle and decent character development. It made me want to read more by her!!!
