Holy hell…that’s all I got here, folks. So if I’ve said it before, I’ll surely repeat myself…Triana is an absolute mad genius and established top talent of the horror and splatterpunk genres. I’ve read a handful of his books now and each one is such a unique, deviant, ugly, uncomfortable experience. They are far from pleasant, but they will all stay with you long after you finish them. So with Full Brutal, I had to put it down and settle myself about half a dozen times. My stomach was doing somersaults, and I decided that whatever my next book would be, has to be much lighter to balance me out. The story focuses on a budding and eventually flourishing young serial killer and cannibal, Kim, and goes extremely dark. The atmosphere created is perfection and the violence is very extreme, but written in a supremely elegant way. You want it to stop, but know more is imminent. Almost like you yourself were one of Kim’s many victims going through your own demise by her soiled hands. It doesn’t really let up and the one line that stuck out to me is when Amy asked Kim why she was doing all this and Kim casually replies, ‘Because I was bored.’ Kim shows absolutely no remorse for her actions, as they go from simple bullying and mind games to preparing her victims like a top student of Hannibal Lecter. The finale was something that I was prepared for, and expected, also being very thankful that it wasn’t detailed any further. This haunting story will make many of you very appreciative that your high school days are behind you. And for those still in it, beware!!!

“Full Brutal” by Kristopher Triana is a good splatterpunk book if you’re looking for one with an insane female protagonist who will twist your thoughts of reality and madness. I enjoyed this wild ride despite the few flaws I found while reading.

Before I begin my review, there are a ton of trigger warnings here. They are:

- Pedophilia
- Underage sex
- Cannibalism
- Animal violence and torture
- Rape
- Suicide
- Homophobic slurs
- School shootings
- Drugs
- Date rape drugs
- Abortion
- Violence against women
- Violence against fetuses
- Violence against children
- Necrophilia

If any of these trigger you, please do not read this book. Moving along, I loved the references Triana dropped here from Hot Topic, The Misfits, Cujo, and the metal band Ghost. Seeing him mention one of my favorite bands since I'm a metalhead was awesome.

I enjoyed the high school setting of everything and, of course, the incredible protagonist in Kim. My goodness, she is insane, psychotic, sinister, and so much more. Her character development was fun to read, especially seeing her descent to madness blurring the lines of reality and some truly disturbing moments.

The horror here is excellent. I enjoyed how Triana dialed up all the gore, violence, bloodshed, and serial killer-inspired moments. That was all great, and combining that with Kim's over-the-top shenanigans made this a good splatterpunk read. She also had some hilarious dark humor lines that made me laugh out loud, especially with some of the one-liners once all the deranged sexual scenes happened.

Now, for the few flaws I found, some parts dragged on for me a lot. The momentum started to fizzle out around the 50% mark. “Full Brutal” became way too story-intensive and not enough crazier splatterpunk. Perhaps I’ve been spoiled with the many splatterpunk books I’ve read before this and expected things to get crazier and more intense as you read, but that didn’t happen here for me. It finally started to pick up from the 70% mark on, especially the final 10% straight to the end.

I also found it hard to believe that a 16-year-old female teenager would use the phrase “inside my sex” or “my sex” in thoughts and conversations referring to her lady parts. That distracted me since it’s mentioned everywhere. I remember during my high school and college days, I had never heard a woman call her “situation” that, you know?

Another thing I didn’t like was the addition of stories of real-life murderers, serial killers, etc., which felt unnecessary. It messed up the overall pacing of the story and extreme horror parts, so I’m not sure why it even needed to be thrown into a book like this. It felt like fluff. Omitting all that would have made for a better read.

Aside from that, I did enjoy the gory slasher scenes, which balanced things out. The ending was excellent, and yeah, it was more of Kim’s madness, which was beyond words great to read. I got major “Carrie” by Stephen King vibes at the end, but taken to even more extreme levels. Don’t worry, I’d never spoil anything for you, but wow, what a demented way to end this book!

I give “Full Brutal” by Kristopher Triana a 4/5 for being another solid splatterpunk book that made me make faces while reading. Yeah, the horror here is extreme, the sexual horror parts are crazy, and overall, it checks almost all the boxes I look for in a splatterpunk book. The pacing was a bit slow and dragged at times, and the whole Kim referring to her “sex” was distracting, but this was still one hell of a ride.

**4.5-stars rounded up**

Full Brutal is Splatterpunk gold. It delivered exactly what it intended. There are no limits in this story. Nothing is out of bounds. I have never curled my toes so tightly and had my stomach churn so violently whilst reading.

It left me utterly disturbed and speechless. Frankly, I loved every freaking minute of it.

This story follows high school Junior, Kim White, who is beautiful, smart, popular and the star of the cheer squad. Girls want to be her and everyone wants to be with her. She has the world in the palm of her hand.

But Kim is bored by it all. The whole high school experience. Even her best friend, Amy, has become practically unbearable. Kim's not sure how much more she can take. What even is the point?

Trying to figure out a way to change her life, shake up her boring existence, Kim decides to lose her virginity. She's heard that's a life-changing experience, so it's worth a shot.

Not just any boy will do though. High school boys disgust Kim. She needs something more enticing; a little more taboo. Seducing one of her teachers should do the trick. Then she can use it against him and ruin his life, bonus.

This is perfect. This is going to be fun. Life is good.

The power Kim feels seducing this man is like nothing she has ever felt before. She is in complete control and loves watching him squirm.

Unfortunately, things don't go entirely to plan and Kim ends up pregnant. The entire episode has certainly changed Kim's life, but not necessarily in the way she imagined. She's now on a fast-track to complete madness and debauchery. There's no turning back.

This story pulled me in so quickly. I thought the writing was excellent. Oftentimes when things get super gory, you have moments when you're rolling your eyes, thinking, that's how they decided to write that? I never felt that during this story.

Triana's descriptions of gore, torture, fetish acts, were some of the most gruesome, gag-worthy descriptions that I have ever read. OMG, what did I just READ!?

The thing that was so great about this though, is it's such a fluid story. The plot is cohesive and the pace, as well as the intensity somehow continue to build throughout until the absolute vomit-inducing end.

It's twisted, deranged and I enjoyed how it sort of flipped the script on the sex-violence connection. After Kim discovers her attraction to torture porn, her imagination runs wild and she'll stop at nothing to reach new levels of euphoria.

There are scenes, actions, thoughts within this that I never thought I would see on a page and I respect the fuck out of that. I doff my cap.

The final few chapters included probably the most grossest of gross scenes that I have ever read in my entire horror-loving life. I can't even wrap my head around it all.

Triana, is a beast; a truly violent wordsmith with his finger on the pulse of making a Reader uncomfortable. There are images in this I will never be able to wipe from my memory.

I've seen a few people compare this to Mean Girls, like the Extreme Horror version, and I get that. To me though, this read straight up Clueless, with Kim as Cher. Even her best friend, Amy, was giving me Dionne vibes.

Kim's relationship with her father, her big ole house, the fact that she didn't vibe with high school boys was total Cher, if Cher had been a psychotic bitch hell bent on destroying everyone around her.

No matter what it reminds you of though, this one will surely stick in your mind as one of a kind. This was an unforgettable reading experience.

Would I recommend it to everyone? Absolutely not.

Only pick this up if you are a tried and true Extreme Horror, or Splatterpunk, fan. If you go into this thinking you are getting a fun, fast-paced, Teen Scream-type, Horror novel, you may never recover. Seriously, I mean it.

✦ ever wonder what a mashup of Mean Girls and American Psycho would look like? well here you go, here's the perfect book for you.
✦ what a fucking ride. jesus. this was brutal indeed. the main character, who's head you're in the whole time, is the most ruthless and vicious bitch you could ever imagine. no empathy whatsoever. i love books that are written from the villain's pov, so you damn well know i ate this shit up.
✦ i was waiting for a twist or something like that at the end, so when it ended gruesomely, but quite predictably, i couldn't help but feel a tiny bit disappointed. i think i just personally prefer plot twisty endings to horror books.
✦ it was still a good (can i even describe such a fucked up book as good?) read overall though. i am definitely becoming a fan of this author, since so far i've enjoyed every book i've read from him.

This book wasn't for me, it's just too disturbing, heartless, and evil.

I just can't enjoy reading about such depravity and how much you can destroy another person just for the hell of it.

The writer is very talented though, can't deny that and he does exactly what he intended to do; leaving the reader shocked.

Not for me but if you're into 'extreme' horror, you'll probably like this.

Now excuse me while I scrub myself with bleach and turn vegetarian. 🤢

"You need to go full brutal."

That quote spoke to me. I meeeeean... I could see how that could be very therapeutic. It is of great wonder how a person can essentially just snap and do unspeakable things. Yet all of us surely capable with the right life storm. What is beauty in one’s eyes, can be grotesque in another’s. As is the yin and yang of life.

Kim was bat shit crazy, no doubt, but did it with style. Picture a 16yr old Sarah Conner from Terminator with a machete. Wanna live a lil cause that sounds fun, right? Like complete slasher debauchery? Yup. “Come with me if you want to live.” (see what I did there?) lol Read the book, take the ride. It’s therapeutic.

This was so disturbing and disgusting but it was so enjoyable.
The MC is another level of unhinged.
I don't usually read books like this but it was a welcome change.
This Girl did every bad thing imaginable and then sat down and said nah not enough I have to go full brutal.
I'm giving this book 4 stars because I'm scared she will come for me if I rated it lower... Jk but I'm truly scared of her as a person who enjoys true crimes and whole personality is criminals minds I know people like this exists.

Anyways this is extreme gore so if you happen to read it know what to expect.

Third reread, May 2025. Bumping it up to 5 stars!

This book ought to come with a warning label! If you are not a fan of extreme horror, stay very far away from this one. But, if you like work like The Girl Next Door or maybe The Silence of the Lambs, you will find yourself a real treat here. I liked John McNee's blurb about it the best: "As violent and sadistic as it is wickedly satirical, Full Brutal will leave you feeling disgusted, degraded and filled with contempt for humanity. I loved it."

FB is about Kim, a 16 yo Junior in high school who is bored with life, entertaining thoughts of suicide. Nonetheless, she is an honor roll student, beautiful, popular and on the cheerleading team. Her BFF Amy is also beautiful and something of a boytoy. Amy recently lost her virginity and keeps telling Kim what a life changing experience it was. Kim, who first comes off at first as basically a sociopath, has no real interest in sex, but after talking with Kim, spends an afternoon surfing porn on the internet to see what all the fuss is about. Triana's wicked black humor comes in fits and starts, but his depictions of porn through Kim's eyes is amazing; you will laugh, but oh, what does that say about you? Anyway, the only thing that she finds even mildly exciting is bondage porn, and then she really starts to get off on it. She orders lots of really extreme horror films (which I have seen most of, so nice shout out here) and starts making plans to make her life more interesting. She figures if she is to lose her virginity, it should be to an older man, not 'fleshbags with cocks' as she sees the male students at school. So, she basically seduces one of her teachers, but it was so anticlimactic. The only thing that really turned her on was the desperation of her teacher to keep this on the hush, so she figures out some new plans for teacher...

I mentioned that Kim first came off as a sociopath, and that might be the case, but she really became more of a psychopath as she devolved into madness. The only thing that turns her on is other people's misery, their degradation. Triana does a fine job with madness here as we experience Kim's life and mind quickly becoming more and more unraveled; plotting ever more wicked deeds. Seducing the teacher was only the beginning; she comes up with some really nasty plans to destroy his marriage and his life, and boy are they nasty! Saying this is like 10 miles of bad road does not due justice to bad roads. This is Full Brutal all the way, and the ending-- well, the denouement took my breath away.

Triana's dark, dark humor and satire I found really engaging, and without that, I do not think I could have made it through the novel. Nonetheless, I need a long shower after this one. 5 brutal stars!!

I really wanted to like this book. It was well written, and started off with a promising story of a sociopathic teen. However, too many elements of repellent behavior took this story into too many directions for me. Don't get me wrong - I like a good dose of repellent behavior in my reading. This one jumped the shark. By midway, I lost interest in the psychoteen's new levels of malice. I found it difficult to suspend disbelief. I am glad that I read the book all the way through, however, because the ending was apropos. Gore fans will eat this one up. It just didn't do it for me.

This book will not be for everyone but it was definitely for me. It managed to take my mind off of the current hellish timeline we’re caught up in and thrust me into someone else's for a few hours.

But, yeah, this book is not for everyone. It is extreme horror and by extreme I mean extremely gross and violent. Prepare thyself.

“I want to fuck you with a frozen dog turd.”
(note to myself: remove this most excellent line before the cross-post to those prudes at Amazon!)

It’s funny too, sometimes. Or at least I thought so. And I desperately needed some pitch black humor in my life at this moment in time.

Things start out normally enough. Kim is one of those spoiled little rich cheerleader types that most of us love to hate and by us I mean me, and maybe you too if you’re busy reading a review of a book called Full Brutal but I’m not here to judge. Her daddy gives her whatever her black heart desires, as well as all the freedom in the world but she is deeply unhappy. She can’t feel things like the other girls do. Boo-hoo. Woe is her. Blah, blah, get over yourself and who cares, right? Well, this girl decides to be proactive and tries to fix her ennui and her whining and believes life will be worth living once she finds the thing that gives her a thrill. You can't fault her for that, right? She thinks that thing might be losing her virginity but soon enough she discovers that sex is blah like everything else but she’s a girl who learns from her mistakes. She learns that it’s the thrill of the dark and the dangerous that make her heart and other body parts race.

I’m going to keep from spoiling the ugly surprises that await within these pages because I think the impact will be stronger if you don’t know what’s coming. I spoiled myself because I read the blurb and skimmed a review or two before stopping my nosy self. You should know that this story features a whole heck of a lot of trigger warnings. Quite possibly all of them with the exception of prolonged animal torture (but don’t quote me on that because my brain is not working okay right now). Sometimes things bother me depending on my mood, the day, or the color of the sky but there was nothing here that made me ever want to shut it off and pour bleach in my ears.

I enjoyed this immensely despite knowing I probably shouldn’t. Kim is a monster. One of those human monsters that walk around looking like everyone else and pretending to be like the others. Full Brutal is cruel and evil and so very wrong but the fact that the perpetrator of all of these horrible misdeeds is a beautiful teenage girl worked for me. I’m not even going to pretend to lie, if it had been a grown man telling this story and finding such joy and glee in these atrocities I might’ve pulled the plug, I refuse to think about that too much or attempt to explain myself so please don't ask. You like what you like, you know? And this book held me in its gore-filled grasp until the very last word.

Narration Notes: Dani George does a decent job with the narration. A few of the guys sounded a bit rough but they didn’t really matter anyway, lol.

Horror:- An intense feeling of fear, shock, "OR DISGUST"

Kim is a sophiopath that takes great pleasure in completely wrecking other peoples lives. She gets off watching extreme horror movies, and listens to the Halloween theme tune on repeat as she walks down the street. She's a badass in more ways than one!

Skimming a few of the reviews of people complaining about how disturbing this is, I couldn't help but wonder what they were expecting!? Read the title of the book FFS!

If you want a tame crime/thriller you won't find it here. Run far away, back to the mainstream section if that's the kind of book you're looking for.

Yes, It is shocking and disturbing! (See the definition of horror above)
It's disgusting too! (See the definition of horror above)
I WAS disgusted. The book did It's job very well!

It's also a major page-turner. Not just gore and filth for the sake of it. It's a good story with great pacing. I couldn't stop reading until it was over.

Highly recommended for people who like D.A.R.K.A.F Psychological horror. 4.5*

This was the first Kristopher Triana book I read and after finishing it, I immediately purchased everything this man has published and will buy anything that he will publish in the future. That should tell you all you need to know about my thoughts about this novel.
I have seen this book compared to American Psycho meets Mean Girls/Heathers and I think that is a good way to describe the gist of it. This is an incredible story and Triana pens characters that come to life off the page. But be warned, as the title suggests, this tale does get BRUTAL and I loved every second of it. Read this and everything else by him because although there are a lot of great extreme horror writers these days, Kristopher Triana may just be the leader of the pack.

"The fuck-demon had to feed, and so did I, and it wasn't like I could buy human meat at McDonalds."

Holy fucking fuck. THIS is how you write quality spatterpunk. Kim is our main character and her descent into sadism was so brilliantly written, I felt like one of her victims! It took me longer than it should have to read this book because I actually had to set it down several times to give my brain a rest, which is unheard of for me. I mean seriously, never happened before. I'm pretty desensitized to the macabre. Now I didn't have to take breaks because of the mind bending gore described in this book... No, it was actually the psychological torture that did it for me. It is unmatched. I mean seriously, the first half of this book was painful to read. There is so much malicious psychological abuse inflicted on one character that I was just hoping the poor thing would die just to be relieved from it. I never give trigger warnings in my reviews because everything I read is a trigger warning by nature. However, I would actually give a clear warning to think before reading this if you are easily upset by sexual assault, or even rape culture and how victims are treated. With that being said, don't get me wrong, the gore Triana illustrated in the last half of this book was brilliant and stomach turning. The last chapter had me wishing for it to end. To avoid continuing a long rave that maybe no one will read, I will conclude by saying again, THIS is how you write quality splatterpunk. I am becoming a huge fan of Kristopher Triana

“People speak sometimes about the ‘bestial’ cruelty of man, but that is terribly unjust and offensive to beasts; no animal could ever be so cruel as a man, so artfully, so artistically cruel.” — Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Full Brutal by Triana is exactly that-Full Brutal. This book temporarily took over my life from the moment I picked it up. I equally loved and hated Kim White.

Triana writes beautifully, it isn't a book that is all about gore, it's also well crafted and the story flows well. The more I read, the more unhinged the story became. This girl knows no limits when it comes to making her fellow man suffer. The book goes from psychological torture to something else entirely. Yet, I could not look away.

Around the 60% mark the book went to a new level of depravity just sinking its claws ito me further. I was obsessed and tingling with anticipation at what happens next. The ending was off the rails and pure chaos. It couldn't be more perfect.

Sweet Sixteen? Not for Kim White.

Kim is not your average teen-aged girl. Her life can been summed up in two words: Numb indifference.

"The world seemed just as stale and empty as always, and the misery of the sunshine as it poured through the blinds of [her] bedroom window made [her] groan with discontent."

Tired of her bleak, miserable existence, Kim decides she needs something new and exciting to add meaning to her life. She thinks it's time for her to lose her virginity. But she's not planning to do so with someone her own age. Kim has picked out a challenge--an older man with whom to engage in this scandalous affair. She selects her sex education teacher, Mr. Blakley. I guess that makes sense, right? Who better to learn from?!?

The problem is (well, aside from all the moral issues, that is), Kim isn't content with just sleeping with Mr. Blakley. The act itself offers very little satisfaction. She finds, rather, that she is stimulated by his subsequent remorse and anguish. She realizes that her happiness depends on watching others suffer. She decides "...to play an intricate role in his self-destruction."

Cold and calculating, she orchestrates complex plans to ruin his life--plans that don't just include Mr. Blakley, but others as well, including his family members. The more havoc she wreaks, the more she craves.

And then she discovers that she is pregnant. But it seems as though she's not carrying an ordinary child. Baby wants in on the fun, too....

As the name suggests, this story is quite brutal! It grabbed my attention from page one and had me fully immersed for the first sixty or so percent. Then, in my opinion, things just got too weird. I realize that this is a work of fiction and while it's good to get creative, I, personally, preferred when the story was more realistic. If Triana had omitted the baby altogether or handled it differently, this could have easily been a five-star read for me. The turn of events, after such an incredible rush, just left me disappointed.

The writing is very good--almost hypnotic at times, and I truly had trouble disengaging from the book each night. I just had to know what would come next. I will definitely be reading more books by this talented author.

Full Brutal is exactly what the title promises, and somehow still doesn’t fully prepare you for what’s inside. This book is vicious. Graphic. Grotesque.🤢 Completely unrelenting in its depiction of one girl’s descent into utter depravity. If you’re planning to eat while reading, don’t. Seriously.

What first pulled me in was the twisted reversal of a teacher-student relationship. Kim, a sixteen-year-old cheerleader with everything on paper and nothing she actually wants, seduces her teacher not out of lust or longing, but to ruin his life. I love a good revenge story, especially when the target is a man getting exactly what he deserves. And Full Brutal starts strong in that department. Watching Kim take control, even in the most horrific ways, is morbidly fascinating.

But somewhere around the halfway mark, that revenge-fueled thread begins to unravel. The narrative stops feeling like a power shift and becomes a freefall into chaos. That may be the point. Logic has no place in the mind of someone spiraling this hard. Still, I found myself missing the initial focus that hooked me.

One thing that was hard to ignore is that this book feels pretty obviously written by a man. Some of Kim’s internal dialogue, especially when it comes to how she views other girls or talks about sex, just doesn’t feel like the thoughts of a teenage girl. But even though I struggled with that at times, there were also moments where Triana nailed aspects of female adolescence. The pressure and expectation surrounding virginity and the idea that it’s supposed to be some life-changing, mind-blowing experience, that felt real. So did the heaviness of Kim’s depression and suicidal thoughts. And the dark humor sprinkled throughout was just enough to keep this from being just depressing or violent for the sake of it.

Still, the gore. The violence. The pure horror of it all. Triana absolutely delivers. This is extreme horror through and through, and it does not shy away from pushing boundaries. I read this as a buddy read, my first one ever, and wow, what a choice. If you have any triggers, this book is not for you. Honestly, it’s easier to list what isn’t in this book.

But if you’re looking for something that lives up to the name Full Brutal and then some, this is it. I’m so glad I finally picked this one up!

Full Brutal...yes it is. Fantastically written with our main character being such a manipulative psychopath it's so much fun to read. How she destroys the lives of those around her whilst maintaining an image of perfection and innocence was great. Deserves all 5 stars.

A crowd fell upon me then, everyone yelling and reaching for the knife, and I heard the woman say something about not pulling, and then the knife came free, dragging everything out like a fishing hook, all that remained splattering out into the cruel, flickering light of our world.

This book was deeply disturbing because I'm married with a young family and have a thing for cheerleaders. I'll be staying away from all pompoms for the foreseeable future.

So I absolutely loved this. I could not put it down. This book has you on the tip of your toes throughout. It is beautifully written and absolutely brutal.

In this book we follow cheerleader Kim white, a popular teenager who discovers the darker sides of herself and decides to live out those fantasies to her full potential for the thrill of it. The result is a thrilling, violent and bloody ride. This book actually made me feel something and I don't know exactly what. The emotions in this book is so well described that you can really feel the insanity taking over while you also feel the rage and pure evil forming. This book did not disappoint. Triana really did go full brutal with this one.
