Magick isn't a series of words, actions, and materials that bend natural laws and warp mundane reality. It doesn't provide us with a blank check with which to detail how we want the events of our world to play out. The secret? We've never needed magick to be any of that. We are intensely powerful beings composed of the same material that is at the heart of all Creation. In order to grow, evolve, and move toward our deeper calling and the power it holds, when we were born into this lifetime we accepted certain illusionary limitations that prevent us from embracing the fullness of our spiritual identity. Ritual and spellwork are tools that allow us to strip away the illusions that limit our growth and power, providing us with insight, wisdom, and understanding. While magick itself offers a certain amount of mystical influence, it is most effectively used as a key that allows us to unlock our own potential, our own power, and open ourselves to a deeper and fuller version of reality. This book contains the principles behind magick, why it works, what happens when we work magick, and the framework to begin your own magickal practice or to significantly deepen magick's role on your own path. Gleaned not from books but from hands-on experience, each lesson, insight, and perspective included in these pages was chosen for one simple reason: it works.
It's been said that a writer should "write what you know" and my life seems to have had numerous lifetimes crammed into it already. I've walked the warrior's path, trained as a traditional shaman, and devoted a good portion of my time for countless years teaching people how to think outside the box and find themselves.
Somehow I still manage to find time to slip into a sea kayak or throw on a backpack and disappear into the wilderness for a few days at a time.
The books I write tend to be set in places that I've visited, from big cities to the heart of the forest. As an exhibited photographer, I try to bring the same perspective to my writing that I see through the camera's lens. I find that there are stories everywhere, tucked away in the folds of seemingly normal moments. My goal is to show you a glimpse of those tales and offer you an escape into my world and allow you to leave your own behind for a time.
Personally, I think the title is a misnomer. Perhaps "Principles of Spiritual Magick" would be better. Thankfully, he says in many places that the practice of magic is an individual path.
I slogged through most of the book as it didn't speak to me at all. I have a difficult time applying spirituality to what to me is a practical skill/craft. Only the last 30% (or so) applied to my way of thinking. That said, one statement did stand out (when speaking of correspondences): "In my opinion, we don't need to memorize - we need to connect".
IF you believe magic is a spiritual path, you'll love it. If, like me, you consider it a skill/craft, you'll have difficulty getting through the entire thing.
Wow. Intense and approachable, this is a "keep-by-the-bedside" book! If you are a spiritual seeker (on any path), you will LOVE this book. Lots and lots of wisdom and insight on every page.
I love this book, it's a must if you're on a spiritual path. I love the practical examples and wisdom riddled throughout each chapter. It has easily become one of my absolute favorites!!
