After a career disaster, Sadie Barncastle finds herself in rural Vermont, starting over and opening up a shop at the family inn. She meets up with an old friend from childhood, Peter Appleman, a widower next door with a precocious daughter.
But Sadie's not sure if life in the Green Mountains is for her and feels the call of Boston drawing her. Peter, however, is drawn to Sadie but isn't quite sure if he's ready to move on yet.
As Easter approaches, a time of forgiveness, restoration, and joy, the two realize that it's also a time for new beginnings, but does that include with each other?
This book continues several years after the last novella in Christmas At Barncastle Inn.
Lynette Sowell is an award-winning author with New England roots, but she makes her home on the doorstep of the Texas Hill Country with her husband and a herd of five cats. When she’s not writing, she edits medical reports and chases down stories for the local newspaper.
Past and present collide when Sadie Barncastle returns to rural Vermont and meets a former childhood acquaintance; one who she teased and bullied, leaving hurt feelings instead of friendship. Grown up, Sadie regrets the behavior of her childhood self, but can only hope family, friends, and old acquaintances can see she is a mature adult with a kinder nature. Peter Appleman is a widower, raising his 10 year old daughter on his own. Running into Sadie brings back old, painful childhood memories, but also the promise of something new. Easter draws Sadie, Peter, and his daughter, Marin, together showing them all that the God of Easter is the One who can cleanse the past and create a fresh new start for them all.
One of the things I liked about this story is the way Sadie was finally able to accept her past, but not let it control her present or future. She's grown up, she's changed, and she's a Christian. The author uses scripture from Isaiah 43:18-19 as the basis of this story and it is what makes it a positive, encouraging, romantic story. "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wastelands."
I read this novella in the Love Blossoms boxed set, but it is also available as an individual book.
Cute book, it reads like a Hallmark movie romance with a little of a Christian theme. I liked the characters. The scenery was described beautifully, especially the lake with the flowers...
Sadie Barncastle used to spend her summers with her cousins at Barncastle Inn in Vermont. And there was a boy she didn't think was good enough to hang out with back then. Now she's returned to the Inn, now owned by her cousin Jayne, to open a gift shop in the castle style B&B.
Also newly returned to the area is Peter Appleman, now widowed with a 10-year-old daughter in tow. The grown-up Peter is much more attractive than the young boy Sadie tormented in the past. But as the Inn celebrates Holy Week, when Peter's wife died two years earlier, is he ready to move on? And if he is, will his daughter let him?
In this novella we revisit Barncastle Inn, which was popularized in the collection Christmas Comes to Barncastle Inn. One of the authors of the collection, Lynette Sowell, wrote this tale bringing the hope of Christ's death and resurrection into crisp clarity against the backdrop of a Vermont spring. Isn't it best when a story can be fun (and sometimes funny) while still reminding you of truth?
Spring at the Barncastle, written by Lynette Sowell, was a nice read. My favorite character was Sadie. She's been fired from her job and now is living with her relatives at their B&B and trying to start a gift shop on the premises. Meanwhile she runs into Peter, who just happened to be the kid she picked on as a kid when she'd visit these relatives. Life has drastically changed for both of them...Sadie is trying to start over and Peter...so is he with a daughter and memories of his wife's death. Pick it up and read the rest...I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review.
I had the honor to review this wonderful book for the author. When Sadie comes to the Barmcastle Inn to open a gift shop, she never expected to run into Peter. You can feel God bringing these two together. This is a amazing book filled with special people who truly make a impact on the readers of this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this love story. Sadie and Peter had known one another as children and she was not very nice to him. Now, she needs to get away to Castlebury, Vermont and finds Peter has returned also. The tone of this story is one of reconciliation and restoration. Well done and lovely to read. Highly recommend. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a really good story. I enjoyed getting to know the characters of Sarah, Peter, and Marin and watching them grow to love each other. I know this was a continuation of the Christmas at Barncastle Inn novella collection, but it wasn’t necessary to read that first. I was provided with a e-copy of this book as part of the Love Blossoms collection in exchange for my honest opinion.
Cute story about a widower with a daughter and a feisty lady who once teased him when they were children. The daughter had a strong personality and I thought the author did a good job showing the struggle of dealing with a grieving child. The ending was cute but abrupt.
