"Sculpt the worlds, my friend, not only for yourself, but for all of these warriors. This moment will be in their lives forever. Do not cheapen it with fear that you are not ready, because they are ready for you.”

3.5/5.0 Strong Finish to the series. To be honest it was on par to the others in the series but because the series overall impressed me more than I thought, I will bump the conclusion up half a star. Over the four books there were things I loved and things I....didn't. I love the character growth throughout the series. While the four books only span four months, there was an outstanding character growth involving all the characters. The plot pulls from a lot of classic fantasy tropes but shook it up in more of an urban fantasy setting. On the flip side, I felt that there were conversations that were had over and over again throughout the series. A lot of it had to do with self doubt and despair. It just felt like it was beaten over my head way too many times and got old pretty fast. Overall I enjoyed the series and feel that it was a good distraction from the more series reads I have been reading recently.

5 stars - Brilliant ending to an awesome series

You may remember that I wasn't speaking to Mr. Merrick when I got done with book three, Release. He crushed my heart in that book. Two things came out of that. First, it became clear just how much I cared about the characters in this series. And second, even though I forgave him and talked to him again I wasn't done being upset. That is until I read THIS book. He is totally forgiven. Why? So many reasons and I'll try to be spoiler free here.

Let me start by saying that my first reading love is fantasy. I fell in love with fantasy as a teen. But so many fantasy books have me lost with so much detail that I can't keep things straight. That's when Urban Fantasy become my favorite. I love the grounding that I feel in it. M.R. Merrick has really done an incredible job of blending the two genres I love most together to make a unique story that I love.

Next, I have to say that I grumbled at Mr. Merrick about the lack of kissing in his first book. He laughed at me and told me it was a part of the story but not all of it. He is so right. Here's the thing about the romance in this series. It's there but it's subtle and that makes it more real to me. This story takes place over a relatively short period of time. The relationship between Chase and Rayna takes the whole series to develop. That's real. That's avoiding the instant love thing. And there is this point near the end of Endure where it hit me. A sacrifice is about to be made. I am absolutely devastated it and I realize it's because their relationship is real that this is affecting me this way. Now I can't say any more about this without being spoilery but I will say that it was brilliant.

Okay, the reason the author is forgiven? It's because the pain that I felt in book three was necessary. As I read Endure, I kept thinking this couldn't have happened it that awful terrible thing in book three didn't happen. Plus there were these little moments of peace that were peppered through Endure that let me come to terms with the events of Release. They were like sweet bits of chocolate treating me as I read along.

As for the characters, I think I've made that clear that I loved them all. Chase is, of course, my favorite. I love how he takes the weight of the world on his back and tries to fix things. I love how he protects those he loves. I love how he loves deeply and completely. I love how he figures it out as he goes. I loved how much he grew over the course of the series.

Rayna is my other favorite. The girl is badass. She can kick your behind and walk away before you realize what happened. But something that came out in this book that really got me was her devotion to Chase. Her willingness to do whatever was needed to help him, to protect him right back, to love him was incredible. They had a very balanced relationship and that's just perfect.

The action is just as well written in this last book of the series as in the rest. This author does an amazing job of painting pictures in my head. I can see it unfold on the pages as I read. The epic fantasy tangled with the urban making it a perfect balance of things I get and things I imagine. His ability to make the monsters come alive is awesome. I love to read his books.

The pacing is great. I read it quickly. Actually, I've read it more than once. I was privileged enough to get to beta read for him and then review too. I enjoyed the second time around just as much as the first.

If you love YA fantasy, either urban or epic, then this is a perfect choice. If you like the kind of story that you don't want to put down, then this is the perfect choice. If you like a little romance in the story but not so much that that's all there is, then this is a perfect choice. Give The Protector Series a read. Think you're gonna like it. - See more at: http://www.stuckinbooks.com/2013/07/e...

I believe my exact words when I reviewed the first book in this series, Exiled, were “Whoa…I feel like I’ve just read the script for an action adventure movie”! And I have to tell you that those feelings never let up throughout the entire series. It’s bittersweet to see this series come to an end. On one hand, I feel like I’ve experienced so much with these characters and am lucky to have done so but, on the other, I’m going to miss them terribly! In fact, I already do!

This final installment provides the reader with the action, mystery and adventure they’ve come to expect from Mr. Merrick while providing those who want it (like me) with a bit of romance and even stronger friendships. Although it seems impossible, the characters continue to grow in this book. I’ve loved Chase all along but here he’s stronger, more determined and better able to face his foes. Rayna, who’s kicked-butt all along, gives us a peek into her softer side…although she doesn’t stay there long, there are wars to fight! I has happy to learn more about Tiki since I absolutely fell in love with him in the last book. And all the secondary characters had their time to shine as well and for that I am thankful (waves at Vincent and Grams).

I can’t possibly end this review without mentioning the author’s ability to paint pictures with words. In this book (actually, throughout the series) we hop from dimension to dimension with our characters as they live their adventure. These worlds are not just shared with us in words, they crafted so carefully that they almost leap off the page as clear, vivid images. I could see them, feel them, smell them…the true definition of being immersed in a book.

If I haven’t told you already, although I’m sure I have, go read this series. Go lose yourself in this adventure. Go fall in love with these characters. I did…and I’m sad to see it end!

Okay... ehm... several things.
1) I don't really enjoy trashing this series because the first book was so good and I was so excited about it
2) I like fight scenes. I really do. And the author can write them. But when there's a fight scene every 10th page of every book of the series (yes, unfortunately, despite picking it up after three years, I still remember that), it gets kinda old.
3) Was it really, really necessary to put the word "endure" everywhere? What about, I dunno... *spins on chair* suffer... go through... be victorious... make it... I mean, really, English is a language of many options, believe it or not. Not everything has to go back to the book's title. I mean, put it there once or twice and everyone will understand what you're trying to do, right. Not in every possible sentence you could cram it into without it being out of place. I mean, instead, it's weird.
4) Oh jesus, this might be because I am just sick of white dudes (especially in movies and tv shows) just being so great at everything and being the chosen ones of everyone that I was seriously done with how was Chase constantly gaining more and more power and how everyone believed in him and jesus that battle speech was so cliché and corny I almost gagged and seriously why the hell did everyone constantly look up to him I wouldn't trust this guy with a shopping list, much less my life.
5) Rayna is my girl. Except for having a terrible taste in men, ofc.
6) I literally only finished it so that I'd know the bird survived.
7) It did.

I took a long break from #TheProtectorSeries but I decided to continue with it today, and I just finished #endure, it feels like the last book so I doubt we will see another in this series from @MRMerrick but I'll definitely be looking forward to his future works.

Okay you all know that I have serious deep rooted love for this series, like way deep. I have devoured this entire series time and time again. I just can't get enough. But with Endure here it means that I have to say goodbye to some of my favorite characters....EVER! Well I had to say goodbye to one of them in December, we all know who that is, *glares at M.R. Merrick,* so this moment is truly bittersweet for me. On one hand I finally got all the answers, closure and redemption for all the major crap that Riley has caused throughout this series. And on the other hand I no longer have stories about The Protector to look forward to.

After the major gut wrenching moment at the end of Release, I knew that things were going to get real for Chase in Endure. I knew that things were never going to be the same. And with this being the final chapter in the series I knew that some major crap was going to go down, but in no way was I prepared for the major bomb that M.R. Merrick dropped on me in this book. Don't ask me to tell you what moment it was either, because I won't tell you. If you read the book you will totally know what I am talking about.

As far as characters go, The Protector series has some of the best characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading. With each one being incredibly written. The attention that M.R. Merrick pays to his characters development completely blows my mind and I'm not just talking the main characters either. In Endure we get a more in depth look at Tiki and why he is the way he is with a great glimpse at the world he comes from. Tiki is one of those characters that never ceases to amaze me. He is loyal, kind, caring, dedicated, respectful and one hell of a fierce warrior. This is one demon I wouldn't want to piss off, but I definitely would want on my side.

Throughout The Protector series, Vincent has been one character that has been a thorn in my side. He is the character I love to hate and the character I wanted Chase to use as a punching bag. But despite being a snarky little pain in mine and Chase's butt, he is also a good person or vampire to have on your side. In Endure Vincent get's knocked down a peg or two, but manages to maintain his snark and attitude through everything. I loved it when he came groveling to Chase, again. Perfect. Rayna is the fiercest female character out there. She can go toe to toe with the fiercest demons, beasts and men. Don't mess with Rayna. She is incredibly loyal, strong, sweet and has the ability to handle Chase like no one else.

I could sit here and go character by character and tell you all the reasons why the characters in Endure are so freaking insane, but that would take me a while so I am just going to say this. Best characters EVER!

Throughout The Protector series Chase has faced unbeatable odds. Facing enemies bigger, stronger and more vicious then him, all while trying to survive the magic that was raging inside him. Of all the characters in Endure Chase probably grows the most. He has always been determined and dedicated but in Endure things just sort of click for Chase and we finally see him become the Protector that he has been destined to be. And it is a glorious transformation, finally Chase has grown up. Here is a taste of grown up Chase....

"I had been weakened and I had been hurt, but I would never quit. I would be strong once again and I would fight, not because I was the Protector and not out of revenge or hatred, but out of honor, because that's what Willy would do." ~Kindle, Loc. 1057

See what I mean, grown up. And there are many, many more moments like this throughout Endure. With this being the end of the series there are many heart melting moments. Moments that make you cry, moments that make you cheer, and moments that make you stand up and say Hell Yea!

In true M.R. Merrick fashion Endure was full of incredible creatures, demons and amazing worlds. The action was non stop and there were more than a few nail biting moments. M.R. Merrick did an excellent job building the suspense that for a second I questioned whether or not it was actually going to end in a cliffhanger. Talk about sitting on the edge of your seat.

To sum this all up before I continue to ramble, words can not convey all my feelings towards this book and what it means. There will be no more Protector. No more Chase, Tiki, Rayna, Willy and annoying Vincent to fill my world with laughter, strength, love and undying loyalty. If I had to find any fault in this book it is that there wasn't enough of an Epilogue. But don't fault M.R. Merrick for that. He could have written a whole nother book and it wouldn't have been enough for me.

So if you haven't already picked up this book then you need to get off your duff and do it now! If you haven't started the series then you really need to do it NOW!

The best way to describe Endure is with one single word: mesmerizing. Stunning. Incredible. Perfect. Mind-blowing. So yeah, I cheated, that's clearly more than one word but you see, it's impossible to try to describe this amazing final book without going all crazy about it. Yes, this book is THAT good. It's even better than that.

For me final books are always hard, not only because it means that I have to say goodbye to the characters I've grown to love and care about but also because, well, I'm not always pleased with the direction the author took or the decisions he/she made. And that's tough.
So here I am, thanking the gods for M. R. Merrick's unique and extraordinary writing style. Not only can I trust him to submerge me into the plot but he has a way, and I know it may sound crazy but it's completely true, to make me live it. All the struggle, the adrenaline, the sadness and happiness, the will to fight with Chase & co. and never give up... I feel it all and it's a wonderful sensation.

Endure it's the grand finale, the perfect conclusion for most of the characters. And I say most because at the end of the third book my heart was broken, one of my favorite characters died and to be honest, it still makes me so sad I may cry a little bit right now... But that's the beauty of it, right? Mr. Merrick made me care for these characters so much that I have tears in my eyes!

But enough of that, let's talk about the plot and characters a little bit. I don't know if you have read the previous 3 books -if the answer is no... what the heck are you waiting for?!- so I'll try to avoid spoilers as hard as I can.

Endure is Chase's final step to become what he was always meant to be: the protector. And it hasn't been an easy road at all; this poor guy has suffered so freaking much that I'm so proud of him for not going ballistic and crazy. Seriously, all the pain and sorrow he goes through is unbelievable. But he overcomes it all, and not because he is super strong and focused but because he has amazing people surrounding him; people who will never let him fall alone or lose his path; loyal and fierce people who will stand by his side no matter what. And I simply love that kind of friendship and commitment.

So yes, Chase has grown a lot since the first book and it has been amazing to see him develop his personality and go from a selfish dude who thought he knew everything to the strong leader I knew he could be.
As for the other characters like Rayna and Tiki... well, they are as wonderful as ever. Rayna is still this fierce, strong and gorgeous girl who doesn't take sh*t from anybody and is completely supportive of Chase's ideas.
And Tiki... *girly sigh*, Tiki is the most incredible demon out there. Yep. In this book we get to know him a lot better and if I loved him before I'm head over heels for him now. Loyal is the best word to describe him.
There are, of course, a lot of other characters like Vincent -whom I don't love but don't hate anymore- but if I write about every single thing I loved about this book I'm never going to finish this review, trust me.

As for the plot it was pure perfection. Once again M. R. Merrick takes us to different dimensions that should be very difficult to imagine but somehow he creates them in your head for you to see in a fabulous way. And this is one of those books that it's impossible to put down, in fact you may find yourself walking with your Kindle or iPad to do whatever you need to do without leaving the book behind. And in case this happens to you too, please, make sure you don't hit anything in your way like, I don't know, a glass door which is what happened with me....

Action, adventure, romance, fights, friendship, struggles, pain and happiness... Endure has it all. And the epilogue? Brilliant! The perfect golden brooch for a perfect series.

M. R. Merrick, I'll keep my eyes on you and your amazing books for ever. The worlds you create are simply spectacular and your characters are amazing, thank you so much for sharing The Protector series with us all!

As seen on my blog:

Coming back to this series for the 4th and final installment was like watching your baby, all grown up, and leaving the house. It was bittersweet, the characters still as intensely familiar, the action picking up exactly when it left off, and your heart still racing faster than your breath can keep up with. I feel like we all waited FOREVER for Endure , and Mr. Merrick definitely satisfied the senses.

There are 3 other books before this finale, so I'm going to try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible. The conclusion of book 3 TORE.MY.HEART.OUT. I was a wreck for HOURS. I kept tuning my e-reader on and trailing back to the last page, hoping the outcome was different..hoping I could save my heart this time around. No suck luck. I was still a wreck. Endure dove right back into the thick of things, with everyone picking up the pieces from the last book, and moving on to even deeper waters. The characters, Chase especially, were stronger, smarter, and more determined. It has been such a pleasure to have been able to see him grow from the self-conscious, undetermined, shell of a hunter he was in book 1, Exhiled . This Chase in Endure was one I couldn't stop beaming at, I felt like I raised him myself, THAT'S how proud I was. For M.R.Merrick to even possess writing capabilities amazing enough to allow me to feel that , is a whole reason on it's own to pick up this series.

Ahhh *happy sigh* Drakar, how I missed your lovely purple seas. I was so, SO happy that the author brought us back to that world. I've been raving about it since book 1, and I was delirious with happiness when I discovered the characters were venturing back there in Endure . The descriptive scenery, and characters in Drakar, were just as beautifully heart-wrenching as I remember it. Also, as usual, Merrick BROUGHT THE ACTION, and probably the most intense yet. With everyone's abilities stronger, and more in control, you're in for a ride through fight scenes that will leave you breathless, and your head spinning. Paranormal fiction was MEANT to be written this way, and my GOD how I wish this series could go on forever *siiiigh*.

I'm afraid to give away something I shouldn't. So I end on high note, with gushes, and admiration for what M.R.Merrick has done for this series. It was wrapped up BRILLIANTLY. If you haven't read book 1 as yet, I truly have NO idea what you're waiting for...GO NOW!!

I loved this books so much! Heck, I love this series! If this series could be made into a movie I would be the happiest girl in the world. The imagery and the characters are only a couple things that make these books awesome. Throw in a storyline that will leave readers hooked right to the very end, add in a dash of extremely entertaining dialogue between characters with plot twists that leave your head spinning, and you, my friends, have a recipe for freakin’ awesome. If you haven’t read any of the books in this series, I wouldn’t suggest continue reading this review as there may be spoilers for you.

Endure by M.R. Merrick is the fourth installment in The Protector series. We follow the adventure of Chase Williams and his friends as he comes to grips with his amazing powers while dealing with the tragic loss of his best friend, Willy, and his mother.

Chase must traverse through different dimension in order for him to complete his transformation into The Protector…the one who was chosen to save them all. But with every obstacle that Chase encounters, Chase can always count on the support of his own personal Scooby gang.

Chase must learn how to use his powers gifted to him by the gods while keeping his friends (aka his family) alive. Through his travels, Chase must also learn to control his temper as he runs into other beings while in other worlds. Will he make more enemies? Or will he gain allies which he will need in order to defeat his father, Riley, and the Dark Brothers.

What I loved about author M.R. Merrick’s The Protector series is that the reader is well aware of what the true focus and direction that the story is heading. But it’s the story within the story that I truly enjoy the most. For example, Chase must, yet again, help Victor (oh sweet, ridiculously funny/sarcastic Victor) when his own family threatens to destroy all that Victor has been working on…a family he can truly call his own. Or when Chase is adamant about staying with Tiki through thick and thin and getting through Tiki’s own family issues at his side.

There really is a huge emphasis on the importance of family. Regardless if it’s the family that you were born into, of a family that has come to accept you for what and who you are. I absolutely loved that about the book. The importance of family can be found all throughout the book, which certainly hammered the message home time and time again.

I also loved that FINALLY Chase and Rayna get to explore their feelings for each even further. No more pussy footing around. Words are said, feelings are expressed, and I loved every single moment of it. Sure, there are instances where these two lovebirds still butt heads, but isn’t that what we loved about these two? I know I did.

The imagery and writing style of M.R. Merrick is one of the reasons that I can’t get enough of this series. The way in which the scenes, landscapes, dimensions, characters, heck everything, was done so fantastic. Readers will easily get find themselves completely engrossed in everything that is The Protector series. Like I said before, if this book/series could be made into a movie, I could totally picture it being magic/adventure/action filled like LoTR, The Hobbit, and yes…Harry Potter!

With a strong leading male, and equally strong supporting cast, fans of adventure and fantasy reads will totally devour this title, as well as the rest of the books in this series. How would I describe the final installment to this series that is Endure? Totally and completely EPIC with a side of OMG…

#insixwords: Action. Passion. Determination. Fulfillment. Protection. Chase.

The ending of this series was as EPIC as it could be. Chase, Rayna and crew might be in over their heads, but they are not standing down to the evil that is seeking to destroy their world. They are going to fight until their last breath, and Chase is going to become The Protector, come Hell or high water. This young man has grown leaps and bounds throughout this series. He has become someone who will lay his life and soul on the line to protect the innocent and free the world of evil. He has experienced a lot of tragedy, and with that comes a certain level of unease in his decision-making. However, he has a team of dedicated people who continue to remind him that casualties are a part of war, a fact they are all aware of and accept.

Chase's relationship with Rayna is delicate throughout this series. They are under high amounts of stress and continue to learn about one another. The great thing about Rayna is her honesty and passion, in the form of a slap across the face for dishonoring someone with a simple statement, or an intense look that speaks volumes. She is an incredible woman, who has dealt with a lot of crazy, and she has stood by Chase's side through it all. They started out as enemies, and once they realized they were on the same team, their curiosity and appreciation morphed into love and passion. I just love these two something fierce.

I loved the focus on Tiki in this book. He has been a character that you can't help but love, but we really learned about his past and the things he has endured, and I respect the hell of that demon. I hate to admit this, but I also didn't close this book detesting Vincent as much as I have in past books. He's still a whiny turd, but he has his moments and he's definitely a fierce warrior. I was also happy for the few Grams scenes, because that woman can bring the smiles during the most darkest moments. I love her personality, the way she gives it to you straight and doesn't take shit. She dealt with her own pain in this book, but damn if that didn't fuel her fire even more.

There was a lot of action, I mean...a lot. Shit got real and characters died. The big fight at the end is baffling. It reminded me of a Lord of the Rings epic battle scene, or something similar. It was intense, terrifying and gripping. I don't think I blinked or breathed, and I certainly didn't move from my seat until it was all over. Matt writes great action, and while there was a lot going on, I was able to stay focused and follow Chase through a maze of WTF to stand head to head with Riley and his evil entourage.

THE EPILOGUE! I think those last few pages really closed out this series for me, and I'm so thankful Matt decided to write them. It was perfect, so very perfect, for the characters and their future. Matt's writing has grown just as much as Chase's character. I am very impressed with his talent and creativity, his ability to weave such interesting and epic world-building together, and his strength for writing characters that you, the reader, will fight for.

Okay, I had to go back and look just to be sure. It’s been over a year since I read the last book in this series. Yes, I read and reviewed Release in December of 2012. This is usually the time that I give a whole lot of excuses for why I waited so long to pick up the next book. Honestly, the only one that I have is that I was scared. I mentioned being left in an emotional heap at the end of the last book. I wasn’t exaggerating. I realized at the end of Release that no one was safe. I honestly couldn’t put anything past M.R. Merrick after what he did to faithful readers in Release. I hardly ever question an author’s reasoning when they do something that I don’t like, but this? This was almost too much. I guess after all my grumbling, complaining and digging my heels in the ground procrastinating, you’re probably wondering if I’ve forgiven him. The short answer is almost. *sigh*

Endure picks up where Release left off. That’s both good and bad. Good, because readers don’t have to worry about gaps or bringing themselves back up to speed if they waited as long as I did between books. Bad… because it picks up EXACTLY where Release left off. Right in the middle of the pain and anguish that I was trying to forget. Believe me when I say there is no forgetting that pain. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. The loss that occurred in Release or in any of the previous books didn’t deserve to be glossed over or swept under a rug. As much as it hurt to ‘feel’ that pain all over again, it made it more real. Needless to say, Endure was not a ‘light and fluffy’ read.

As I read Endure I realized exactly how far these characters have come. They’ve been through a lot together and Chase’s memories made that apparent. Rather than being redundant, those flash backs added to the story and put things in perspective. Sometimes a memory sequence works and sometimes it doesn’t, these obviously worked… very well. The growth of not just Chase, but all of the characters was apparent.

Once again, the world building was phenomenal. There are so many dimensions and layers to the worlds that the author created in this series and he didn’t hold back in Endure any more than he did in the rest of the series. I was cringing and gagging right along with the characters in some parts. *shudders*

I honestly could keep going – yeah this series is that good. What you really need to know is that it is well worth the read. There’s a lot more to this series than what’s on the surface. The characters have depth, there’s more than one lesson to be learned and it’s all laced with amazing imagery and characters that are not only smart, but full of wit. There’s humor, action, drama and tears… yeah, the tears are pretty much unavoidable. *sigh*

Now for the burning question. When I finished Release I asked M.R. Merrick if what he put readers through at the end of that book was really necessary. His answer was yes. Do I agree? The juries still out. Yes, I felt better about where things were left. Yes, the series came to a satisfactory end. Was I any happier with the outcome once I finished Endure? No. Yet, the fact that the author made me ‘feel’ enough about these characters to care and to ‘yell’ at him for the pain that they had to endure pretty much attests to the fact that I’d do it all again, regardless.

Well Merrick, that was an emotional conclusion, totally not what I expected..... But if it did go exactly as I thought it wouldn't have been that exciting or much of a finale now would it?

There was one character who made it for me. VINCENT. I loved him in every book and not once did he let me down. He was a constant character i couldn't get enough of, and that did not change once in this last instalment.

Obviously there were predictable factors such as Merrick, there may have been a few parts I would have liked to have gone differently however I cannot and I will not complain. This was fan-bloody-tastic and I loved every second of it. I just cant believe one of my absolute favourite series has come to its end. But what a fucking ending it was.

My boy Chase is back; bigger, badder and dare I say...more grown up. After three books of Merrick putting this guy through the ringer Chase is no longer taking anything for granted. Chase is a more mature and thoughtful hero but still has his signature smart ass wittiness and he's over taking crap from anyone. Just as before Chase was rash, in Endure he has become a calmer version of himself.

Coming off of a tragic loss, Chase is in a downward spiral. He's experiencing some major guilt and a broken heart all while trying to mend some serious physical injuries and get control of his powers that threaten to rip him apart. He also still has an amazing team of friends, followers and allies that convince him the fight to stop his father from releasing the ultimate in god like evil power, is more worth it than ever.

"Sometimes in life we have to bear a weight, one that's heavier than anything we should be able to manage. In your case, the weight of the worlds. But you're lucky, Chase - you have people determined to help you carry it."

The action is a slow build up in Endure but the drama is there from page one. It's a much more emotional read than the first three in the series as Chase learns the importance of loyalty, friendship and love. The relationship between Chase and Rayna has been slowly growing over the course of The Protector series, but it really smolders in Endure.

"I stood completely bare in front of her, and each moment she didn't speak was another lifetime of madness that filled my mind."

When the action does start up, it doesn't let up. The second half of Endure will devour you with fights, emotions and trauma. All leading up to one epic ending. A fitting and quite perfect ending to a remarkably well written series.

What will stick with me most about The Protector series is the absolutely endearing characters Merrick has created and the broad audience books like these will appeal to. If you are a character driven reader, you'll find many to love here. If are a fan of paranormal or fantasy, there is much to love here. If you need some romance in your books, that is here too. It's also a fairly clean read yet mixed in is plenty to appeal to an older audience. I've loved this series from start to finish and can't wait to see what Merrick has up his sleeve for us next.

The final chapter in The Protector series, Endure, is the best yet by young adult author M.R. Merrick. Full of fantasy, romance, and battles of epic proportions, the story captivates its reader from start to finish, lingering in their hearts and minds long after the last page.

Chase Williams is back, as determined as ever to stop his father, Riley, from achieving the resurrection of the god Ithreal, an evil force none will be able to subdue should Riley succeed. And up until this point, Chase has failed, and failed hard, to keep evil at bay and his father away from the artifacts that will help him unleash the worst of the gods upon every dimension in the universe. Weak from the loss of his best friend at the hands of Riley and the dark Brothers, Chase must learn to overcome his own feelings of loss and blame, letting go and realizing that he can’t control others and that sometimes, death is meant to be.

Though there are many passages that wrench reader emotions, Merrick offsets the sad and gloomy with triumphant and blissful, creating a great ambience for readers as this epic saga concludes. Whisked from dimension to dimension, Merrick captivates with his portrayal of these strange worlds where the inhabitants differ so much from those of the human spectrum, painting incredible pictures of the people, or monsters, as some describe them. The worlds themselves differ in vast array, from red grass, to blue moons, each world is unique and unrecognizable to the human eye, and this wonderful creation of Merrick’s is one of the many aspects that I love so much about his writing. Though I am unable to visualize what other dimensions and worlds would look like on my own, Merrick has shown me his rendition in such vivid color and detail that I am able to see his creation with little difficulty, and as the story progresses and readers learn about the inhabitants, their aggressions, and their attempts to aide or hinder Chase on his way to full protector status, the story unfolds into a beautiful tale you won’t want to miss. I highly recommend this novel, and the entire series, for that matter, to any and all who enjoy strong characters, fantasy, world-building, and an all-around good YA read.

Complicated, action and detail packed, fast-moving, doesn't give you (or them) time to breathe. There’s a lot of existential conflict and journeys. And some odd ‘Alice in Wonderland’ stuff that could have been skipped.

The author really has great imagination for other dimensions and a good grasp on how to use the flow of the ups and downs of plot.

This is definitely Chase and Rayna’s story. The others characters are obviously there just to fill out the story, being brought in and out as needed. Chase and Rayna make a great couple, when they’re together. They support and strengthen each other especially with their elements. But apart, they lose it. I guess that it’s meant to be that way.

Chase is way too morbid and emotional. It’s no wonder the others hesitate to follow him. After all he’s supposed to be this big bad Protector. And yes he needs to have compassion, but not to the point that it freezes him. Like Chief says: Focus.
Rayna also needed to focus. She started out as this badass demon hunter, then after meeting Chase she just kind of lost it.

Drake and Darius are as different as night and day. I haven’t a clue to how Drake ended up with a conscience, but Chase is fortunate is was. I wish Riddley had been brought in earlier in the series, but I liked him. His character, and Chief’s, are different from the others, like a breath of fresh air. And I absolutely refuse to feel sorry for Ridley. He made his own bed.

My absolute favorite character has been Rai. She is so fascinating. The perfect pet: loving, loyal, intelligent and fierce. After that would be Tiki. He’s loyal, humble and powerful, but very mysterious.

I loved all of the final battle. You know who wins but it gets pretty dicey for most of it. I know they had a large army, but with how everyone was getting so wiped out, it’s a ‘miracle’ that more of the main guys didn't get killed.

But the worse thing is the epilogue. It’s was so corny I could barely read it.

Quick Thoughts: 1)In spite of my best hopes, Vincent remains a jerk til the very end.

Fave Scenes: practicing magic on the rocky beach, Chase & Dante’s fight, Rayna helping the Queen, Chase finishing the rite and closing the portal

There are no words to explain just how incredibly sad I am to be writing this review. Why I hear you ask? Because I have so much love for this series and I still just not ready to say goodbye to this incredible series and world. I loved every single moment of this series right from the first page of the first book and it kept me reeling and emotionally invested right until the end of this one.

MR Merrick is one author who needs to be looked out for. His writing style is just fantastic and he really grabs you right from the first page and holds you attention until the very last page and leaves you reeling dying for more. I felt this way throughout the first three installments of the series and this one was no different. Endure has everything that you could possibly want. A great protagonist, magic and non-stop action. I literally could not put this down.

Release had left me completely reeling and I couldn't wait to read more. My heart was totally breaking at the end of it and that continued throughout this one. I was just so unbelievably devastated by the ending of Release and the loss that occured at the end of that book carried through into this one. You really feel for Chase. You can't not that poor boy has been through enough and you really feel this story along with him as he prepared for the action packed final battle.

Endure was phenomenal. It was completely breathtaking and heartstopping and I couldn't put it down. As sad as I am for the end of this series it was perfect. MR Merrick definitely left the best till last. Endure is without a doubt the best book in the series and man has it ended with a bang. This is without a doubt one of my favourite series of all time and I loved every single moment of it... even the ones that had me in tears! This is one series that I will re-read again and again and again. It's fantastic and a must-read. If you haven't read this series yet I urge you to pick it up now.

Yep, I had so many emotions reading this book it’s unreal. Things seem so dire throughout the book. You don’t know if Chase has a fighting chance or not to overcome his father and Ithreal.

We get to visit some worlds that we haven’t seen yet, and let me tell you, some of them are depressing! I think my favorite is going back to Drakar. I loved visiting with the trolls, and Ishmar, again. They are such a lively bunch, and were some of the first creatures we met on Chase’s journey. Each person has to learn to deal with the choices they’ve made thus far. Chase also has to learn to accept the choice made in the last book in order to move on.

These characters have grown so much throughout the series. I even sort of like Vincent. He’s not quite as annoying to me as he used to be. Rayna is strong, and does what she thinks necessary to keep evil at bay. Chase has grown the most. He’s learned to control his anger, and listen to reason. Some of those moments he listened to reason, I wanted to smack him and tell him to let the anger take over. I’ve also come to respect the Dark Brother, Drake. I will never like him, but I can understand where his intentions are coming from.

There’s a lot of build up to the epic ending of this book/series. There are people that will be lost, and others, you kind of want to punch in the face. But I’m very happy with how this series ended. If you’ve gotten emotional in any of the other books, then you will need to grab tissues for this one. You’ve been warned. :P

It is super hard to start a book that you know will be the last of a fabulous series. It is even harder to start it when it begins with such a powerful, heart breaking scene. I forgot the hurt and loss of the last book, only to be reminded when ENDURE began. Oh my heart! My poor, sweet Willy.

Lately, some para/supernatural books haven’t been of interest to me. Only a select few I truly want to read. But the minute I step into the crazy, demon infested world Merrick has created, I know I am a goner. I truly love what he writes and would love to one day see it up on the big screen. Yes, this should definitely happen, like soon.

I will not write a lot about what happens in this book, because saying even a little will give so much away. Trust me though, this book was by far my favorite of the series. I think it was everything that Chase had experienced up until this point. Realizing, finally, that he isn’t alone in this. He has people he can fall back on and assist him when it is needed. Ah, my heart is sad thinking about how far he has come since the beginning. But it is a good sad. Like watching a child grow before your eyes.

I don’t know what it was about this book, but each and every word held my attention captive. Merrick truly wrote a fantastic book that ended the series perfectly. Chalked full of action, a side of romance, and some of the best darn characters you will ever read about…ENDURE is one of those books that will go down in history as one of my most favorite ever.

This series started off a little off kilter but the mythology and magic system made it interesting enough to keep going. Shift picked up the pace, Release broke in to a sprint and Endure wrapped it up in a stunning creshendo.

From what I've gathered so far Merrick is done with this series. That's a good thing. These four books tell a complete story and continuing beyond would either get really silly or be anti-climatic. I think it's the mark of a good author to be able to stretch a single story over dours books but also know when to stop.

While I might have felt that Exiled could have been a little smoother the fact is the story line is well thought out overall and the complexity of the world is immense. Endure was the perfect wrap up for Chase, Rayna and their companions.

Not everyone gets what they want in this book and pretty much everyone loses something but there's a truth in that. There is no dancing around with the good guy winning and living happily ever after and if you got this far in the series you'll have known that was going to be the case. But Merrick handles it in an admirable fashion and even tosses in a little redemption at the end.

Alright, I have to admit, the epilogue is a little cheesy but after everything the cast has been through dragging us along with them, it was a nice closing thought. All in all this was a series well worth my time.

Endure is the gripping conclusion to The Protector Series. If you haven't read the first three books I highly recommend you do that before reading this one.

Chase, Rayna and the rest of the crew face their adversaries head on in this action packed book. The ultimate battle ensues and there are many casualties. You'll have to read the book to find out who makes it and who doesn't.

The world building in this book is again fantastic! I could easily imagine the various dimensions and the numerous creatures brought to life by this author. This is not the usual type of book I would read. My imagination is very limited, but the way M.R. Merrick writes enables me to be right there in the story -- sometimes too close for comfort!

This book had me in tears and it also had me on the edge of my seat reading as quickly as possible so that I could find out what was going to happen. I will definitely have to read it again to ensure I get the most out of it.

Thanks Matt for sharing this story with us. I can't wait to see what comes next...

all i can say is that book was MIND BLOWING

Chase im in irrevocably, irreversibly, madly, deeply in love with you...

the series started from where it ended in Release. i loved how Chase and Rayna grew with time and how they grew more responsible about everything they handled. The series kept me on edge the whole time and that it's over im really sad and heart broken
this is the first time i have given a book 5 stars since im very strict on giving 4 stars at max until now!
I love the characters and the book with all it twists and turn and unpredictable story and the writing was just amazing. There were absolutely no part in the book where i got bored or felt it's to much. There was enough detail and everything was just in proportion

The ending was the best part and though i feel sad for the lives that were lost im more than happy for the ones that lived. I'll always remember this series and it will stay close to my heart.
I'll miss the characters incredibly and i hate that the series had to end.
Chase I LOVE YOU! (wish you were real)

Holy Smokin' Granny!! This series sure went out with a bang!! Just like each of the other books in this series, the action was non-stop! There's a surprise around every corner - and as we've learned so far, the surprises are rarely good! But some of them will absolutely amaze you! Just when you think you've got things figured out -BAM! Something crazy happens! My heart has completely broken for Chase, many times over, but somehow he has managed to maintain control and grow stronger through it all. His fantastically strange group of friends have become the family he needs to keep going. And I have grown to love them all. Even Vincent..a little bit...maybe. This is one of those endings that makes you wanna go back and read the entire story again!

The ending was pretty good and made me consider giving it 4 stars, but the overall feeling of the book didn't warrant it. It didn't read as smoothly as the previous books did. The thing that bothered me the most though is the absence of any authority (read police, three-letter agency, etc), especially given the amount of damage Chase causes every time he goes on a walk let alone an all-out demon war with a god. There were many other irrational decisions the characters made as the book went along.

On the flip side, there were some things mentioned that really do ring true about the motivations and agendas of the "good" gods. I liked the character development as well - you can see the significant changes in Chase and Vincent in particular as the book progresses.

So yeah, 3.5 stars.

Endured

Endured is a good ending to a powerful series. Merrick seems to have thought out the ending thoroughly and I like what he ended up with. Overall I'd recommend this whole series to anyone who likes this genre, or everyone wanting to try something different than they're used to. Thank you MR. Merrick. Hope you don't stop with this series.

I almost loved the book through to the end. Then there was the 2 completely unnecessary mentions to the hero chase BS about violating the heroine. Violent as hell. Almost the most perfect end of the world story had that CRAP been left out. All the characters were well developed and intriguing in their unique ways.

This book was good. It was a nice conclusion to this action packed series. The author did a nice job of throwing in some twists and tying everything together from the other books. I really enjoyed this book and will look for more books from this author in the future.

Not going to lie. I was disappointed. This series had all of the makings to be a good series but it was so drawn out that I became incredibly bored and it was all I could do to finish it. Not memorable in the least.

A really nice ending to a series I really enjoyed. The only fault is that I felt the ending was slightly rushed into the last few chapters. Overall a great read that I would suggest to any fantasy fan.
