it was definitely a journey and there was a solid part that was very enjoyable but the beginning was repetitive and the ending fell flat

The emotional journey this book provides is like one over a plain. There’s lots of grass and whatnot that just makes it beautiful.

No me gusta. Actually the worst book I’ve ever read. Emilia is annoying, Ignacio is a pedophile, the dad is forgettable even tho the book is supposed to be abt him, Camila is not in it for most and I lowkey thought she died, and mom is stupid. Only good character was abuela and that’s a stretch. I’m going to burn this book. I’m against banning books but I would be celebrating if this book was banned in classrooms.

In this book there was a girl named amelia that lied with her family as they hide from an army because amelia's father was a general from the opposing army. Her father was forced to live in a hidden room in the basement so the family could say he abandoned his family. They sent in a officer to go in undercover with the family because the army didn't believe the general had left. On his assignment the officer fell in love with Amelia but it was too late and he already told the army where her father was. He helped them escape too france but he lost them in the process and didn't know if the family made it. He traveled to the town they had mentioned where he found Amelia.

A simple story touching on complicated topics. Great for learning Spanish, most “new” vocabulary was structured in a way that included enough context to organically derive the meaning of the word. Pretty solid.

Eh. More exciting than most beginner Spanish books, but I mean...having the high schooler fall in love with an adult male soldier rubs me the wrong way. Fun to read but pretty skin-crawly, too.

This is written in level three Spanish.

The historical background setting is interesting: the Spanish Civil War.

The plot revolves around the relationship between a young woman from a Spanish Republican family and a young soldier from Franco's army.

There is an very helpful glossary.
