This Indian Urban Fantasy Novel is mysterious and gripping. The storyline was something totally new to me and unpredictable. The author, Prateek has a fine eye for details. The event build-up and the revelations at the end totally blew my mind. A perfect rollercoaster ride.
The story is about a mysterious murder and how it is linked to the Dream world. You'd keep hopping to the conclusion and shifting blame from one character to another frantically. Yet all in vain.
The last 100 pages were so fast-paced that I couldn't keep it down. The ending was open-ended and I hope the author comes up with the sequel soon.
Totally recommend it.

I was not prepared for the roller-coaster ride that this book gave me. I took it up at a friend's suggestion. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. The twists and turns the book has keep you engaged all the time. The scenes and plots make you feel that you are experiencing it by yourself like you are present in that scene. It is so different from the romance and mythology books that saturate the Indian market right now!
Waiting for the next book eagerly!

I am not really an Indian-writer-written-book reader, but a friend suggested this book and I ended up finishing it in one day!!
Its fast paced, well researched book...all in all everything that i love.
With extremely likeable characters and character arcs, its hard to put it down. Without giving out any spoilers....i LOVED the end :)
Totally made my day!!

I am giving it a second read as I feel I missed a few nuances that will definitely help me enjoy the second book more.
This was an unknown author to me, and now I can barely wait for his second book !!!!

Prateek Srivastava has written his book with a concept that deserves a hearty thumbs up, owing to the utter amount of imagination it sparks. Owing to this, the book cannot possibly be summed up to a discrete genre. It is part thriller, as it surely spikes some good dose of thrill, it is also mystery—which is the basic essence with which the plot thrives, and of course its fantasy. The fantasy in this book is not some absurd rocket science jugglery that could earn a scowl from some rational human, it is rather very easy to believe, and makes you feel as if it could be happening in your own life too.

The protagonist Avi is the smart new detective in town. When catching a vicious serial killer on the loose seems to be too much of a grave affair, Avi slowly realizes that his dreams are being invaded by a dark presence, slowly snatching away his sanity. Avi’s responsibility to investigate the serial killer’s death spree must be balanced with the havoc that threatens to crumble his mental peace.

Apart from being a page turner and a fast-paced book, ‘Divinity’ also gifts us with a reading experience very immersive. With fantasy novels, it’s easy to complexify the plot, sub-plot matrix and ultimately end up in a tangled mess—but with this book, Prateek carries along his plotline quite smoothly. You would perhaps never feel burdened by the quantity of action and spice happening throughout the book. On the other hand, this book could make you want to jump right to the climax, right from the beginning. The author’s writing style achieves a very emphasized attention to both ‘what’ is happening in the story, in addition to ‘how’ is it happening. There is a decent effort to weigh the load of fast plot advancement with the dilutions in the narrative.

As said before, the mixing of the urban fantasy element into the realistic instances has been done with ease and mastery. ‘Divinity’ is a book very fast and furious, almost like a bullet of excitement. If you’re looking for literary fiction that will provide you an action-packed and thought-provoking reading experience, this book is the one to go for!

It is a brilliantly written, fast paced, action packed murder mystery cum fantasy novel which is nothing short of a masterpiece!

As an avid high fantasy reader, I did not have high hopes from a new fantasy author, but boy, was I in for a surprise.

I am sure the author himself must have a taste for high fantasy, ‘cause this novel checks all the boxes for a great fantasy novel. The characters are very well written and you will fall head over heels for Avi, the protagonist of the story (and Dhruv :)). The plot, despite its complexity, is very well executed, and has so many twists that’ll always keep you wanting to read just one more chapter. And the magic system, oh the magic system! This is the single most important part of any Fantasy novel, and the Magic system used in this novel is Amazing!. It is both unique and intuitive at the same time. One of the reasons why I found the characters in this book so relatable and the story so immersive, was because I could totally believe that this magic system is real!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy and murder mystery. Just make sure you start reading this book on a weekend, because trust me, it is a page turner that you won’t be able to put down once you start ;)

Cheers!

I AM NOT AN AVID READER BUT HAVING READ BOOKS WRITTEN BY SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE, DAN BROWN, AGATHA CHRISTIE, FREDRICK FORSYTH, MARIO PUZO I WAS A BIT SCEPTICAL WHEN ONE OF MY CLOSE FRIEND SUGGESTED ME TO READ " DIVINITY BY PRATEEK SRIVASTAV.

BUT RIGHT FROM THE FIRST PAGE OF THE BOOK I WAS INVESTED IN THE BOOK WHICH KEPT ME READING TILL I COMPLETED IT

THE FRONT COVER PAGE NEITHER GIVES AN IDEA ABOUT THE THEME, THE PLOT NOR THE SUSPENSE AROUND IT...

GREAT IDEA OR THOUGHT OF THE AUTHOR...

I FOUND THE NAMES OF ALL THE CHARACTERS TO BE ALLURING & REMEMBERABLE

NO GRAMMATICAL ERRORS AS FAR AS I REMEMBER, PLAIN & SIMPLE ENGLISH WHICH COMPELLED ME TO GO FOR THE REMAINING PAGES AT THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY WITHOUT HAVING TO OPEN THE THESAURUS EVERY NOW AND THEN

TO ADD TO THIS VERY GOOD PACE & SUPERB TWIST......

MOST IMPORTANT FROM MY POINT OF VIEW WAS THE FONT, THE SPACING AND THE CHAPTERS WHICH CONTAINED THE RIGHT MATTER & NUMBER OF PAGES....

FULL MARKS TO THIS NEW AUTHOR.....

The story takes you on a thrilling ride till the very end. Its an unputdownable novel with characters which are so relatable and ending so unexpected. I read this novel at a stretch and completed in just 6 hours. The writing of the novel paints a beautiful picture where your imagination can have no bounds. It would be amazing to actually see this adapted to a movie which would surely be a sucess given the interesting story line. I highly recommend this book which is a gem amongst all indian fiction novels.

This book is made from fresh imagination. It treads a thin line between real-world and fantasy that makes you easily relate to the supernatural powers that some of the characters possess. Narrative is light and easy to digest (perfect for those who find reading laborious). Unexpected twists in the plot makes this a page-turner you would want to binge-read in one sitting. The author takes you on a journey inside the minds of some complex characters and making you relate to their struggles.

When a friend recommended this book to me I decided to give it a try.

Let me start off by saying that it is a good attempt at a fantasy novel. The book is Indianised to a certain extent, but that would add to the reason why people in India would love it.

The author checks all important facets of the novel - engaging plot, likeable characters, and a new setting. They are all good, and in the end you will be happy that you read Divinity. Well done!

"Divinity" by Prateek Srivastava, This writer is by nature a dreamer - a conscious dreamer.
Dream Reaper got hold on me until I finished reading the book. What a binge reading! When writer says "People suffering from sorrow and desperation the ones most gullible to religion", he came in like a wrecking ball. I could not agree more the fact that you are a Divinity helps add up a lot of things.

This book is something else.....It's a must read.

Picking up a debut book of a completely unknown author did not disappoint. Finally a fantasy novel written by an Indian author which is not based in mythology.
Loved the story. The pacing is what I loved the most, there was never a dull moment. I will keep an eye out for the author, he seems promising.

Amazing fantasy fiction with a detective/crime plot!
I really enjoyed reading this book and it was impossible to put it down once I started. The characters are relatable (and they have the coolest oddities), the character interactions are engaging and makes you fall in love with them, and the plot just left me wanting for more.
Definitely recommend!!

Wow! Loved the book.
I am not a fantasy genre reader, but picked this up on the insistence of a friend. And boy, was i surprised.

The book is quite a page turner and keeps you on your toes throughout. Not trying to give out spoilers, but at a few twists...you would go back a couple of pages to give a re-read!
I liked the protoganist and the way he 'thinks'!

To be honest, i think we dont give Indian authors their due....some of them, including this particular author has given us quite a different and unique perspective on some aspects.

I couldn't keep this novel down, go buy it!!

Divinity is a fast paced, gripping story that brings together the real and the dream world. Author’s creativity has come alive throughout the book. The characters are well thought through and the events in their lives take the reader’s imagination for a spin. The chapters are tight and crisp and leave no room for any random filler content. The twists and turns make up for a thrilling experience. It’s a highly recommended read for fantasy fans who’d like to explore the thrill of dream world.

Divinity is a perfect plot to take your mind off the present gloomy coronavirus phase. The novel is intense and transports the reader into its own world to accept situations which seem surreal.
Attention to details & subtle wisdom weave the characters to form a tale of intrigue.
Was spellbound and can't wait for the sequel.
A must read.

I received an ARC of the book a couple of weeks ago. As someone who was sceptical to step into the Indian fantasy genre, Divinity was the best book I could have started with. Quick paced and action packed - the author knows how to to keep you on your toes and have you invest in the characters.

The plot is refreshing. I absolutely loved the fact the characters have unique, yet relatable names. The story and character growth both spanned beautifully through the book. I would equate the author's writing skills to any other non-Indian fantasy novel I have read. The USP of this book lies in the manner of story telling; it is engaging yet concise.

All in all, definitely recommend this book.

Congratulations on a wonderful debut book, Prateek!

When I picked this book up, I wasn't sure what to expect. But I finished it in two days, which is saying something, since I have been in the midst of a reading slump. It makes for an engaging and effortless read: an exciting story that sucks you that keeps you intrigued, and is easy to follow. Divinity's biggest strength is its simplicity - of language, and of narration. To do this with a plot line that has its share of complexity is an achievement in itself. A lot of the action takes place in an environment that needs you to suspend disbelief, but he makes it easy for you.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one, Prateek, and hoping that this is the beginning of a killer series! Here's to many more!

Thrilling fantasy that leaves you wanting for more

The story is about Avi, a smart young detective who joins the best detective in town as an assistant. It doesn't take long for readers to realise that Avi has a few oddities that that you wouldn't expect. The story starts off with a murder investigation, and takes the readers through just enough twists and turns to keep them hooked.

Divinity is a fast-paced urban fantasy, that lays the foundation of a fresh new magic system. The story was engaging enough to get me to complete the book in one sitting, and finished with just the right amount of intrigue to make me look forward to the next instalment.

This book was nothing short of an emotional rollercoaster. I found myself making predictions about where the story might go—but every time, I was proven wrong. The plot twists were completely unexpected, and that unpredictability is exactly what kept me hooked till the very end. What stood out most was how the book played with my expectations and constantly surprised me. Just when I thought I had figured it all out, the narrative would shift in a new direction, keeping the suspense alive. The emotional depth and clever storytelling made it an unforgettable read.
