When a series of mysterious messages appear on Jonna Lightfoot MacLaughlin's voicemail, the reporter is thrown headlong into a story that may drastically affect her career, and, if she’s not careful, her life.
Clues from untraceable sources collide with duplicitous ministers, ambiguous monks, and one exceptionally good-looking community center director. With the help of her supportive editor, her savvy, fellow chocoholic colleague and the protection of her big brother, she might break the biggest story of the year and find some of that inspiration after all.
Jo Kadlecek is a journalist, author, retreat and conference teacher, and creative and editorial consultant based in Bradley Beach, New Jersey. She is the author of eight books, including Feast of Life and her first novel, The Sound of My Voice.
A good, solid read about a religion news reporter who stumbles onto a story that could make her career. It was interesting reading about how reporters had to work before the craziness of social media.
Journalists get to ask questions and be nosey. We readers like that since we also like to ask questions and be nosey. Thus, it's enjoyable to follow religion writer Jonna Lightfoot McLaughlin around Denver as she looks for good news about religion, but finds a more complicated picture. Honestly, I've already forgotten the plot, but I enjoyed it at the time. The character appears in several more stories, which I also read.
I enjoyed some of the bonus material: 12 sacred sites to visit in Denver, which made me want to check out some sacred sites in an adventure around Richmond or a nearby city. Also, "The Lightfoot Amateur Reporter Instruction Kit", which brings out that sort of feeling you have as a girl after reading a Nancy Drew story and thinking you want to solve a mystery.
