Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.
As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.
In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.
Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.
Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.
As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.
Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.
Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.
Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.
Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God
This is a tremendous book. I taught it in our adult Sunday School class at church and the people loved it. I would highly recommend this book to any Christian as it will help in the areas of life that are often struggled with. I cannot think of anyone that does not struggle with fear, discouragement, loneliness, worry, guilt, temptation, anger, resentment, doubts, procrastination, failure, or jealousy. Not only does Dr. Jeremiah describe the dangers each of these giants produce but he also gives biblical as well as practical advice on how to overcome them.
I read this book back in 2014, and it was timely to read it once again as a morning, devotional guide. It is extremely well done, covering so many things that can mess up our lives, and so much scriptural advice which can help to keep us on the right path. The stories and examples the author uses are great examples of how God works within our lives when we let him, and also how the devil works when we give him a foothold.
It is truly an amazing, helpful, movtivating read! It is a keeper and I will read it over and over again.
This book was fabulous. Hearing stories from the Bible in combination with real life testimonies made it really easy to connect specific messages god wanted to convey. The giants of fear, discouragement, anxiety, loneliness, worry, guilt, temptation, etc. are there and have always been for everyone. It was helpful to learn how we should deal with these giants and it definitely gives peace. I would 100% recommend this book to anyone.
This book was very thought provoking. The only thing part that I felt was missing was a part at the end of each chapter to write out scripture, questions or answers. I realize this isn't a "workbook" but I think it would help to have it all in one place, rather than needing separate paper for notes.
This book is very pertinent to where I am at in my life right now. As I await major surgery, I have experienced fear, frustration and loneliness, all of which are addressed in this book. It is good to be reminded of the fact that our Lord walks with us through it all, and is able to sustain us. I found this book and the real life examples to be encouraging and edifying.
Anger is the acid that can harm the vessel in which it is stored even more than the person on whom it is poured. I feel that the evil people that have been torturing me through their hideous technology and illegal surveillance for the past 2 1/2 years 24/7, are an example of this. They have sacrificed their humanity. Hard to even refer to them as people, they and demonic.
This book is really good it makes you think how we sometimes in the wrong way God wants us to have good things but we must except the bad times also. Yet in the end God makes His will better for us. I have read several of Dr Jeremiah books and he tells it like it is teaches right from Gods words from the bible
Enjoyed the last chapter the most as it touched home. Letting my guard down on little things and allowing them to develop that “green monster” over nothing. Thanks Dr David Jeremiah
When I picked it this book, I thought, OK ... I can learn some things from a couple of the chapters. I was wrong! My sin runs deep! I gleaned something from every single chapter while applying it with Scripture.
This is the 3rd book of Dr. David Jeremiah that I have read recently and I can't recommend his books enough. He has an easy reading style with plenty of Bible verses to help clarify his points. He describes 12 Giants in the Land. I found all of them enlightening.
This was absolutely excellent. If you have anxiety or chronic illness or I. The most of a big storm in your life, this book will teach you how to be strong in faith and stand in perseverance when the enemy attacks
The best things in life are free. What’s there to be jealous about? The last words of this amazing book. The book brought to light so many answers to questions I have had over the years. Thank you!
This was a fantastic Spiritual Growth book that I learned so much from! Letting God have my fears, struggles, and failures...as well as my successes and blessings...leads to a joy filled life!
Dr. Jeremiah identifies many of the problems (giants) in the Christian life today. He gives modern and biblical examples, then offers solutions. Well-researched and helpful.
Everyone struggles with fear, discouragement, loneliness, or failure at times. Sometimes these "giants," and others, seem to govern our lives. Renowned author and speaker Dr. David Jeremiah wrote Slaying the Giants in Your Life just for us.
In the book, he often writes about our battles against procrastination and guilt that hinders us in our everyday lives. He also talks about jealousy that clouds the real blessings that we already have from God.
When Jeremiah discusses mistakes in our past, he wisely states: "Oddly enough, it is only those who honestly connect with their past who successfully walk away from it." Well said!
When he gives advice on failure, one of his principles is, "Accept failure as a fact of life, not a way of life." I heartily agree!
Every stirring and convicting chapter is packed with real-life examples, including Abraham Lincoln.
Some of Dr. Jeremiah's well-named chapter headings are, "Destroying your Discernment," "Liberation from Loneliness," "Taming your Temptation," and "Disarming your Doubts."
This is a must-read book for Christians who want to face these giants head-on. I highly recommend Slaying the Giants in Your Life by David Jeremiah. It really spoke to me.
This book was for a Bible study group at church and it was pretty good. I am ready to move onto another author though. Next up is The Bait of Satan, which I've read years ago, but I'm looking forward to studying again.
