Before we go any farther, you should know that I received this book as a "first reads" giveaway.
This book is not just for the "lost". I have always been a goal-setter and I have achieved a lot of things I'm proud of in life. There's always more though and that's why this book will have a permanent spot in my reference shelf. It is that good. It covers every aspect of life, there are excellent and thought-provoking prompts for journaling and even if your life is "on track" or a reasonable facsimile thereof, this book is a jewel.
I've often said that the sign of a good book is that while you're reading it, you think of some of the people who would also love it. I know that a number of my friends and family will adore this book and the positive can-do person who wrote it. One of the things that really spoke to me was how to deal with criticism. I couldn't help it -- I read this book cover to cover the minute I opened the package. I will definitely go back to this book on a regular basis. It may still look brand new now, but its future is sure -- it will be highlighted, written in, plastered with those little Post-It tags, and my life will be the better for it.
Edit: I've had more time to think about this book since my review and I have to say I really think this book could be marketed better. I even think the title might throw some people off. I really think that anyone with hopes and dreams and a desire for the best they can get out of life could benefit from this book and I think the "why are you lost?" part might deter people who would otherwise love the book. I get the point, and I love the analogies to driving throughout the book -- it's a great concept. We all have events in our lives that "throw us for a loop", which is how the first chapter explains the title, but this book is so much more than that.
This book has allowed me to first think and become aware of my thoughts, actions, and reactions. It has allowed me to travel down a road that I was reluctant to travel due to the feeling that may or may not come with it. I can honestly say that because of this book and with the help of Dr. G my thoughts, actions, and awareness has been changed for the better. It has taught me to acknowledge my feeling and don't run, hide, and or drown them in my bad habits. This book has shown me that's it's ok to feel what ever I'm feeling at the present moment but the key is to not stay there. Acknowledge my feelings, expose the reason or reasons behind them, address, and deal with them, then move on. I am learning to live in the present and embrace the present. There is no need to worry about what was but focus on was is. It has help me in my personal life, my work life, and in my spiritual life. I would recommend this book to any and everyone who is stuck and unaware of where life is taking them as well as those who just need to heal from what ever they are dealing with. Life will always have its ups and downs but it's our choice whether we dwell in the downs or focus on the ups and make a conscious decision to how we are going to react to life's challenges. I will be rereading this book and it will be kept in my arsenal. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you Dr. G for showing and helping me to first get back in the driver's seat of my life and showings me how I can create my amazing life. You are truly God sent.
This was a very good read in the sense that she provided real life example of hardships she experienced. Helped me to "re-understand" that everyone, at some point in time is knocked off course. It is how you handle adversity that defines you as a person. All and all good book! It gave me the push I needed to jump start my goals again.
