Rate this book
"A suicidal anthropologist learns the value of life when her soul possesses the body of a woman persecuted for witchcraft in 17th Century Scotland."

Upon learning she's pregnant after a suicide attempt, Cultural Anthropologist, Sarah Perry, decides she must live long enough to give life to her baby. She returns to her position at the university only to be sent directly to Scotland to examine two mummified bodies discovered in a peat bog. As a specialist in world religions and witch persecutions, Sarah examines tantalizing clues that suggest the bodies were punished for witchcraft during the time of King James VI. Unable to make a determination based on the dig alone, Sarah inadvertently learns more than she bargained for when she steals an amulet worn by one of the bodies and begins wearing it herself, causing her spirit to be transported back into the life of the woman in the bog.

Does the amulet really contain supernatural powers that allow Sarah to see through the eyes of a woman who lived four-hundred years ago, or is she actually losing her mind? As Sarah relives events of the past, she must come to terms with her own life in the present-- choices that ultimately affect not only herself, but those she loves...

About the author

Brijit Reed

Although Brijit Reed’s background is in anthropology, she’s wanted to be a writer since learning to read. She’s fascinated by history and the experiences of the people who lived it, driving her to translate these interests into stories that entertain as well as enlighten. Though the bulk of her writing experience so far has been through screenplays, she wanted to express her ideas through a different medium and decided to try her hand at another passion– books.

Brijit’s first book, HERETIC: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF AKHENATEN, is based on one of her screenplays. Her second book, UNBOUND, a historical fiction loosely based on the witch persecutions in Scotland, and was just released in screenplay format.

She loves animals, art, cooking, science, traveling, learning about ancestors, historic homes, and meditation. She has no musical talent whatsoever, but she sure has an ear for good music and is probably a little too opinionated about it.

"Unbound" by Brijit Reed was a surprise find on Amazon.
It is the story of an Anthropologist, unintentionally pregnant and suicidal. On location in Scotland during an archaeological find she feels compelled to take a souvenir with her, which causes her a psychic/ spiritual connection to the people from the 17th century whose remains have been dug up.
Finding out more information about these people she discovers parallels to her own life.
The concept of the story and its execution in form of a screenplay were both certainly innovative and original, the portrayal of the character and her development were subtle and well toned. It took me some time to buy into the connection between the past and the present but it all fell into place gradually. The style of the a screenplay and some of the plot elements were distracting to me personally but all in all this is a very good book written by an author with great ability.
