You'll learn to create an exciting resume that will, make the reader want to call you in for a meeting, and will guide the interviewing process and bring out the best points about yourself, develop the accomplishment statements that form the backbone of your resume, and write a summary that increases your chance of getting just the job you want.

As I prepare to teach an internet basics course that includes a brief history of the Internet (a word defined in 1982 and whose roots go back decades before that), I skim through this book and read the line, "Twenty years ago the internet did not exist" (p97). I was already skeptical about some of the advice (such as listing your job titles on your resume as anything you like, regardless of how your organization calls your position), but I'm even more hesitant to follow much other advice after reading this.

In general, the book has a sense of being outdated, even though it was published this year. And being sensitive to typography like I am, I'm bothered by the 1990s-style design of the book. It's not all bad (I like the seven stories exercise), but there are much better resume books out there.

I reluctantly read this after some serious prodding from my husband and I have to admit that it did help me rethink my resume, though I wish there was a specialized section for "WRITERS WITH A DAY JOB," but that's just me being picky.
