My journey into the past ends here with this 10th and final book of the Race Against Time series. When Uncle Richard reads about the disappearance of a trusted friend named Marcus Matson, he and Stephen head off for one more adventure together in snowy Alaska. Along the way, they team up with Lissa, Matson's granddaughter, a girl Stephen's age - a know-it-all with a competitive edge. Enduring the freezing cold, the small party faces dangers with an avalanche, inside an oil pipe line, against a huge grizzly bear, a white out, and dodging baddies in helicopters and on snowmobiles. At the root of it all is the devious executive, Frank Clegg, who runs Intercon Oil. With time ticking away, our heroes once again rely on their Kronom K-D2 watches to rescue Matson, foil Clegg's plans and get home before Stephen's parents do.
As the final book in this long since completed series, "Danger: Due North" is a fitting conclusion where Stephen gets the girl, and not Uncle Richard. Will Lissa become the love of Stephen's life? Alas, we will never know. But, you can decide for yourself. Like most of the other books in the series, this one had its preposterous moments of "that would never happen!" silliness, but knowing I was reading the last book, I found myself more forgiving, keeping in mind the target audience. It is what it set out to be - escapism fun and adventure that will entertain and make you smile.
I enjoyed this book, and would recommend it. In fact, I enjoyed the Race Against Time series overall, and would recommend it to the adventurer of all ages. This book I give a solid 3 stars out of 5, and the entire series I give a 4 stars out of 5. I am SO glad I went back and re-read these books all these years later. And so, I must say goodbye to Stephen Lane and Uncle Richard Duffy - at least for now. Maybe some day down the road, I will feel compelled to "move it!" and revisit my old friends yet another time.
