Parkour instructor Maura Maxwell has always denied her attraction for her bachelor neighbor because she's seen his revolving door of women and doesn't want to become another notch on his belt. But the man who rescues her from a sudden storm isn't the one she thinks she knows-he's Master Chief Declan Swifton of SEAL Team Five, and he literally sweeps Maura off her feet.
Just as his teasing and tenderness start to work their way into Maura's heart, Declan and his team are called in for a dangerous op in the Middle East. The man who returns is facing the toughest fight of his life, and he needs Maura by his side more than ever...
"Im not going to be shy. I promised myself out there, on the water. What you did last night was.....miraculous! Thank you."-Maura
A SEAL Forever, the 3rd book in the West Coast Navy Seals Series, was an okay read for me. I had a few things that didn't work for me with this story, but still overall I enjoyed the book for the most part. This book is about Declan, a Navy SEAL, and his neighbor a very shy Maura. After saving Maura from almost drowning one day, they start dating. A little over a month into their relationship, Declan is shipped out on a mission and he loses one of his legs. Now it's Maura's turn to be the rock for Declan.
"You always seem to do that." "What?" he asked. "Empower me. Make me feel better about myself, like I can get through any situation no matter what it is, if I just give myself a chance to work through it."-Maura and Declan
So here is what didn't work for me in this book:
For one the blurb is annoyingly inaccurate. When a loud crash disturbs his neighbor, Maura Maxwell, she assumes the sailor next door is up to his usual bad behavior. But the man she finds covered in glass is far from the cocky ladies' man she'd grown to tolerate. WHAT? For one what the hell is the blurb talking about "The man she'd grown to tolerate"? really at that point in the book they have been dating for a few months and she was already falling in love with him. Then when she hears the crash the blurb would have you think she thought "Oh great my man whore neighbor is at it again with his new flavor" when really in the book she runs over happy going " Declan are you home?" WTH Blurb? It really annoyed me, but that didn't effect my rating. Then the first half of the book is very slow and gets a little boring. When the book should have been giving us readers details and scenes on the couple together, relationship building, falling in love, it focused a lot on his training, missions, stake outs, and her and her gym.
"I want you to....enjoy it." She smiled. He was a good guy. Down deep, she'd known that. "If you do your job right, then I will." "Oh, it's up to me... to do a good job. I see. No pressure."-Declan and Maura
"Just want you to know. I'm not the only fish out there. You can do better." He had to give her an out, as much as it hurt him. "Declan, I'm not going anywhere. You're the only one I want." She leaned down and kissed him, teasing his upper lip until he joined in. "I've put away my fishing pole."-Declan and Maura
Then I felt like there are some more important details missing from this story. I mean it never even tells you their hair color. If it's long, short, curly nothing. It only says that Maura has green eyes. No clue what color Declan's eyes are. I never got a picture of what they looked like in my head. I felt like pieces of their relationship are missing too. And that was just the most basic details that books normally give. I don't really feel like I know who the MCs are. Just the surface.
"I don't want to stop being a Seal. This is it. This is all I ever wanted for my life." "Then fight for it!" -Declan and Maura
"You're my hero ," she said. His body stiffened. "I'm no one's hero. I'm just a man who's doing the best he can, and who loves this woman." She lifted her head. "I love you, Declan."-Declan and Maura
Also the book jumps around a lot. A week here, few weeks there. One example that really bugged me was, they are getting ready to make love for the first time. He goes down on her and then he is climbing back up her to make love to her. Right when we are getting to the best part the first time he is inside her. A very important intimacy moment, a big connection. Instead the scene goes like this. "Details of him going down on her, he climbs up and .... A week later and he still can't believe how good it is with Maura." and I am like wait... What? He is climbing up to her and then we just skip ahead a week. Really? The whole book is like that. It kind of gives it a choppy unsmooth flow. Also after saving Maura, Declan kisses her, then leaves her apt goes home and has sex with other woman a few hours later, then the next day goes on a date with Maura and they starts their relationship. I know they were not together yet but is was still uncool to kiss Maura and then have sex with someone else in the span of a few hours.
"I take plenty of time to think about the issues that come my way. But my goal, or rather the desire to reach my goal, is greater than any fear I have. Only one emotion can win: desire or fear. So I chose desire."-Declan
"Whenever I'm with you, wherever we are, my Maura, I am home."-Declan
Now on to the things I liked about this book. Maura and Declan have a pretty low drama relationship. They get along well, are respectful and sweet to each other, and they are very supportive of each other. I thought the friendship/brotherhood the team had was adorable, and at times funny. I like the fact that this book gives a really touching look at the struggles and sacrifices our Military men face. The pain and vulnerability that Declan and others go through facing their disabling injuries, loss of limbs or life. The fear and anger of losing a part of yourself that defines you so much that you don't know who you are anymore and learning to be a new you. Declan's pain and struggle felt real and they broke my heart. I love that Declan doesn't let the loss of his leg defeat him. This story has a nice upbeat message of hope, endurance, and a honorable character overcoming. So while it wasn't a major hit for me, it was an enjoyable read and I will definitely give this author another try.
This sounded really good based on the blurb. The beginning was great but then it just fizzled out. The romance, the tension, the dialogue, everything. It ended up being meh.
4 you can take the man out of the ocean but not the ocean out of the man stars. The novel is an overall descriptive, emotional, and driving read. It allows you to understand Declan and Maura as the people they perceive themselves to be and as the people the other perceives them to be. Anne Elizabeth ensures you become emotionally attached to not only Declan, but also Maura.
Declan's been a SEAL for years and it is the only thing he can picture himself. He loves the ocean, the training, his brothers, and serving his country. He lives a good life with his condo on the beach and a revolving door of women to satisfy his needs. He's not a bad guy but views serious relationships as not an option given his occupation. He's steady, in control, charming, understanding, sweet, and protective. It's really easy to like and be swept up in all that is Declan.
Maura's aware that her neighbor is a gorgeous SEAL and avoids him like the plague. He unsettles her and she doesn't know how they can ever have common ground when she's just herself and he's this larger than life man. When they start to become closer she realizes there's more to him than she ever thought. She's shy, free-spirited, smart, personable, and really down-to-earth.
Declan and Maura have an interesting relationship, by interesting I mean nonexistent, when the novel first starts but it changes the moment Declan saves her life during a storm while she's in the ocean. From that point on, the two spend time together, learn each other, and test out the thing people call boyfriend and girlfriend. When Declan goes away on a mission things change between the two. He comes back out of sorts with his life, his purposes, and himself. Maura has to show him that change doesn't mean your life is over and she becomes his solid rock. While Declan originally saved Maura, Maura definitely saves Declan in the end.
Very good book. Maura and Declan are neighbors who share a balcony in their apartment building. Maura is attracted to Declan, but too shy to do anything about it, especially seeing the variety of beautiful women who pass through his apartment. Declan is a Navy SEAL who makes no secret of his avoidance of committing to any one woman. His job makes relationships difficult, and a SEAL is all he's ever wanted to be. When Declan rescues her from a stormy dip in the ocean, it's the impetus she needs to go after what she wants.
I really liked Maura. She may be shy around Declan, but when it comes to the rest of her life, she's a hard charger. As a gymnast, she lost her Olympic dream when she was involved in a car accident. Now she teaches parkour and gymnastics and dreams of owning her own gym - a dream that is about to come true. She's also a woman with a big heart, which shows in the way she cares for the kids and families who use her gym. I loved how her brush with death motivated her to overcome her shyness with Declan. She is also a woman with incredible inner strength. She used that strength to beat her injuries, and she used it again to help Declan.
Declan was great. He is a SEAL with a lot of years in the teams. What he does is a huge part of who he is. He has a great relationship with his Team brothers, and I loved the scenes of them together. Though I was a bit mad at Declan that first night after he rescued Maura, when he followed through on his plans with another woman, that didn't last long. Once he really got to know Maura, that was it for him. Declan is a big, strong guy of course, but is also pretty sensitive. He has good insights into what makes people tick and has a talent for bringing out the best in them.
I loved the development of their relationship. Their first date, where she asked him out to say thank you for saving her, was really unexpected. I loved how it turned out, and it was a good indicator of how their relationship would go. Over the course of several weeks, Declan realized that there was something different about the way he felt for Maura. Instead of being bored after a few dates, there was always something new to be learned about her, or to do with her. This had never happened to him before and had him believing that there might be a future for them together. Maura feels the same about him, but she has a few doubts. She worries that she isn't enough, and an encounter with an old girlfriend of his has her questioning their relationship. She pulls away, and by the time she sees the light, he's been called away on a mission.
The description of the mission and its aftermath are very well done. During the whole thing I felt as though I was there. Declan's injuries were life-threatening and I ached for him when he found out just how bad they were. His own inner strength and determination came out as he knew he had choices in how he dealt with them. I ached for his fear that he would lose his work with the SEALs because of them. I was also a bit mad that he never contacted Maura the whole time he was in the hospital, though I sort of understood his reasoning. I loved how the closeness of the SEAL family was shown in the support that he got while in the hospital.
Declan was worried about how Maura would react when she saw him. I was a little surprised at how smoothly that went as I would have expected at least some anger over the long silence. Most likely because of her own injuries, Maura is very accepting of his. But she's also no pushover, and doesn't let him wallow in his fears for long. I loved her gentle butt-kicking, and the effect it had on him. Their progress together, as Declan learns to cope with his new reality, strengthened their relationship. I also loved how her push also got him looking at a new direction in his life with the SEALs. I loved Declan's big moment at the end, and the epilogue was a nice addition.
I loved all the interactions with Declan's Teammates, both his and Maura's. The closeness of the brotherhood really came out in the post-injury support. I loved that there was no pity, only the effort to make things as normal as possible. From adapting his motorcycle to being his support team for the triathlon, they were there for him. I also loved their acceptance of Maura, especially during his emergency surgery. I would love to see Leaper get his own story.
You ever heard the saying work hard, play harder. Declan Smith, Navy SEAL, has taken that moto to the extremes.
When his shy neighbor finds herself in need of rescue, Declan is the man for the job. The rescue leads to steam filled days and nights until Declan is called to duty.
When Declan returns, he comes back as a man in need of rescue from himself. He was injured during his last mission, an injury that has turned his life upside down. Now, its Maura’s turn to come to Declan’s rescue.
Life gives Declan lemons and with Maura’s help he has to learn to make lemonade.
Well developed and realistic characters, A SEAL Forever not just provides a highly entertaining read but also takes on the trials and tribulations of facing life when your expected life plan takes a drastic turn.
I received this ARC copy of A SEAL Forever from Sourcebooks Casablanca in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication December 1, 2015.
I read an earlier book from this series and I was struck by how well the author blended backdrop, plot, and development. I got a military romance that told the home-side and the mission-side that stayed with me beyond the last pages of the book and had me comparing other military romance books to that one. With that in mind, I saw this one and was enthusiastic to read it. I am pleased to report that this one was equally engaging and more so in some ways.
This is the third book in the West Coast Navy SEALs series. It can easily function as a standalone or out of order. There are a few familiar faces that pop in, but not even enough that a new reader would even feel that they were missing something.
The story opens with Master Chief Declan Swifton enjoying a relaxing swim in the waters just beyond his apartment complex, but a storm is rolling in so he packs it in. Declan notices his neighbor, Maura, but as usual she barely gives him the time of day. He doesn't get the standoffishness, but he doesn't have much time to puzzle her out with his job as a SEAL and his active life keeping him busy.
Maura Maxwell knows she is practically stalkerish the way she spies on Declan. He is one hot guy and she is interested, but based on the honeys that he brings back to his apartment, she figures he's not for her. Maura has to focus on her gym, Froggy Squats, that she is transitioning in as owner and she has a bucket list. Right now, she plans to paddle her standup board out into the surf and master this sport. But Maura didn't notice the storm and Declan has to rescue her when she gets into trouble on the water. Maybe this is her chance.
Declan enjoys the start up of whatever this is he has with Maura. She isn't like any of the women he has been with. He is attracted to her, but for the first time, he wants to know a woman outside the bedroom. Maura is fit, enjoys sports, and is interesting. They talk, date, and begin to share lives as he works his missions and she, her gym, but then she gets cold feet and doubts that he can be into her.
A mission goes sideways for Declan and meanwhile, Maura hasn't had the chance to tell him that she messed up and let fear pull her away. She is determined to make things right when Declan gets home. But when he is there, she realizes that she has a bigger choice to make. Declan is changed by his mission. Can she accept this man- this SEAL- or will she walk away for something easy and safe?
The story isn't some action-packed page burning thriller. Oh, there are exciting moments when Declan and his SEAL brothers are out on a couple trainings and missions, but for the most part, it is the story of two people falling in love and then supporting each other through their trials and triumphs. There is passion and sizzle, but there is ordinary everyday time and dialogue.
Declan is a confident man and he is salt of the earth. I enjoyed him as a hero as he fought through the tough times that come. Maura has to get past her hang-ups, but she, too, has quiet strength. Something happens that makes Maura realize that she is exactly who Declan needs beside him. Declan knew it and told her, but she had to get there on her own. I loved that she was a Parkour instructor and gymnast and I had fun being along on the activities these two did together- yep THOSE activities, too. Haha!
All in all, I loved this even-paced romance and can easily recommend it to those who enjoy authentic, but mild military romance.
My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Maura is a great heroine, I liked her as she was just a good person, she lives next door to Declan..hot sexy manwhore seal. She has watched the revolving bedroom door of women, he is a man slut...lol. He is not married or in a relationship so it is what it is...but she is attractede, he saves her after she in injured and it semi changes their relationship : SPOILERS
Spoilers: I had a issue with him leaving Marta and having sex with another woman next door to Maura right after rescuing her, I know that it is not cheating but it truly diminished him being heroic...as it made him look like a mongrel...lol... which he was...sorta...
But when the revolving door finally slows, and they start a relationship... he is sent on a dangerous mission and is critically injured, this is another issue I had with him... he DID NOT tell Maura... the excuses and stalling tactics were lame and it diminshed him more than the whoring, he let her worry and hid for quite a while... in fact when he finally came home, he sneaked in and she only discovered it when he made noise. I, by then was pretty pissed at him, and thought he deserved a Olivia type girl and Maura deserved better.
But Declan redeemed...but I do wonder if he had not the trials and challenges he had whether he would have chosen Maura in the end, he said he was "falling for her" before the accident, but that doubt remained as I think he truly saw her value in her reaction to him after the incident and the shallow seal chasing bimbos he usually slept with would probably NOT have.
The blurb was good and the cover even better...the reality less so.
It's difficult to see Declan as a standout from so many other 'play, live and fight hard' military men that I've read in these sort of books and even more difficult to like him when he continues his hookups when showing an interest in Maura. But Maura didn't seem any more of an interesting character that I've been hoping for. Both Declan and Maura seemed flatly pasted together and coupled with the writing which I'd unfortunately term as rather simplistic - short sentences which don't really make their impact, too much 'straight' reporting without much variety in syntax, for instance - getting invested in the book was a mountainous journey, until Declan's injury and subsequent PTSD gave the story a little more depth and dimension. I'm not looking for purple prose, but definitely wished I could have been more engrossed and less sceptical about the story in general.

I liked the idea of this book more than the actual book. It's one of those books that lacks important details to solidify some elements of the story but then has too much details in other areas.
Personally I prefer stories with more dialogue and less step by step 'paint by numbers' type of story telling.
It was too smooth and easy. Sure it had conflict but everything was too smooth which made it lack the realness or rawness of the story.
It wasn't bad per se but just really bland and unforgettable. I normally like Seal stories and the hero and heroine where okay, but it just didn't wow me. However, thankfully the heroine was strong and capable which did help me a bit, otherwise it would have completely ruined the reading experience for me.
Would I read more from this series? Possibly, as there were some characters that I'm curious about but I wouldn't drop everything to get right to it.
One of the many things Maura has enjoyed about her new apartment is the neighbor. He’s a hot sexy SEAL. He spends much of his spare time in the ocean swimming or running on the beach. Declan makes for a quality people watching. Maura knows she is far too shy to ever speak to the man next door. All that changes one night when she sees her life pass before her eyes. With a renewed outlook on life it only makes sense to grab life by the horns or in her case a SEAL by the lips. That one kiss is all it takes for Declan to see that the neighbor is not nearly as introverted as he thought. The only thing that he wants to do is get to know her better because he is enjoying the not so closed off personality she shows him.
I need to mention all of the wrong and misleading things going on in the blurb. I was expecting Declan to be an ass. I had thoughts of Maura having to deal with a noisy partying neighbor who continuously brought home random women. Or perhaps Declan and Maura had a hook up and she now knows his wild ways for what they are. NONE of that is what is going on here. Sure Declan has some women in his past. Most men do unless you get them really young. Maura and Declan have a pretty serious thing going on between them BEFORE the injury ever happens, an injury that happens nearly at the halfway point of this book. Declan refers to Maura as his girlfriend before the injury even happens. The huge differences in blurb and what actually takes place in A SEAL Forever took away from some of my reading enjoyment.
The third book in Elizabeth’s West Coast Navy SEALs series easily works as a stand-alone. I have not read any of the other books in the series and I was never lost within the pages of this one. The compassion that Elizabeth has towards the men and women who server our country is evident on every single page here. She illustrates the struggles so many of these brave individuals experience in their daily life. Declan may be just a fictional character but the aspects of his changed life are a reality for far too many people. Elizabeth conveys those thoughts well with Declan and his own personal journey back to his new normal.
This is the third book of Anne Elizabeth's West Coast Navy SEALs series, but I read it just fine as a stand alone. I'm new to Anne Elizabeth and I found her writing engaging, her characters relatable and her setting was written in such a way it pulls you in and poof you're there with the characters. This isn't an action adventure romance, but a heartfelt picking up the pieces after a traumatic event romance.
Declan Swifton loves being a SEAL, he loves his team like brothers and he wouldn't live his life any other way. Maura Maxwell has aspirations to owning her own gym, a place where kids can learn parkour and everyone has a place to go for whatever their needs.
Declan falls for his beautiful, shy, and very athletic neighbor, Maura. Declan and Maura start up their hot and heavy relationship after Declan saves Maura's life. They have a very amusing first date and from then on they are inseparable, Declan has never felt this way about a woman before but the appearance of a past lover reminds Maura of Declan's playboy ways and pulls away from him.
While Maura talks herself out of being such a ninny, Declan gets called out for a mission. From the start everything goes wrong and by the time Declan gets back home he's missing a half of one leg. Maura instead of running, and abandoning Declan she is exactly what he needs. As a survivor of an accident that left her unable to fulfill her dream she has worked past survivor's guilt and become the best at what she does. Maura is the nurturer and the ball buster motivator Declan needs to continue on successfully in his life. And through all this fall deeper and deeper in love.
Overall, this is the kind of emotional romance I love, it's all not angst and gloom and doom, it has what it needs to get the point across and then they move on. It's a little slow moving in the progression of the story but it was a quick read, if that makes sense. I would mark this up there with Emily March's Eternity Springs series, and I love those books
Synopsis: Special Operator Declan Smith was a dedicated U.S. Navy SEAL, a known player, and daredevil who loved pushing the limits. But on his last mission, an IED leaves him injured and angry as hell—and it changes everything.
When a loud crash disturbs his neighbor, Maura Maxwell, she assumes the sailor next door is up to his usual bad behavior. But the man she finds covered in glass is far from the cocky ladies' man she'd grown to tolerate. Lying before her is a man fighting to rediscover his place in the world—and he can't do it alone.
I work with a lot of veterans so I especially have a soft spot for military romance. This is the first book I read of Anne Elizabeth and I am very happy to say that this story has a little of everything I was looking for – action, drama, humor, and romance. The story felt real the way the author describe Declan’s life as a military man and how he survived and cope with his injuries. There are actions that make your heart pounds. I think the author did research on Navy Seals because the way she describe is so details that you would not know otherwise. I like Maura character – she is kind, sweet but also strong. Declan, well what can I say – he is a sexy, damage military man (right up my alley). The part how they met was sweet – he saved her. I think at first, I did not feel too much chemistry between the two mainly because they just met then he was shipped out on a mission and the story was about him at that moment on. The middle part of the book is about Declan’s time overseas, his missions; while at home Maura leads a separate life running her gym. So, there is a little bit of a disconnect there. But then their relationship picked up again afterward so that is when I see more connections and chemistry. Overall, this book is a quick read, emotional, heart-warming love story. I would definitely read Anne Elizabeth book again.

Declan Smith is a dedicated Navy Seal, that tends to live life dangerously for the sake of feeding his adrenaline addiction, and takes risks that most would shy away from. The ladies find him irresistible, including his shy and reserved neighbor Maura Maxwell. She intrigues him, but the elusive beauty tends to keep herself hidden from the outside world. But after he has to rescue her from her late night swim gone wrong, he begins to wear her down, and draw her out of her shell. And what he finds is a woman blessed with unwavering inner strength and strong willed determination.
Just as they begin to build a friendship and get to know one another on a more personal level, duty calls and Declan is sent on a new mission. One that changes the course of his life and leaves him wounded, and in great need of saving... and this time it's Maura's turn to step in and play the hero.
This was my first experience with this authors work and I can say with complete certainty that it won't be my last! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Maura and Declan's story, it captivated my attention right from the start and had me hanging onto every word. I was really impressed with the writing style, and how easy it was for me to just fall right into the story. and I could tell that Ms. Elizabeth put a lot of time and care into developing these characters. And that she tried to give readers a realistic view of what life is like for soldiers returning home and learning not only how to deal with readjusting to civilian life, but also how to deal with life changing injuries. It's definitely a book that I think everyone should add to their reading lists, it's sure to leave a smile on your face and satisfy every one of your reading expectations!

It took me some time to get into this book, in the beginning I struggled with Declan's character. Something that happens very early on left me scratching my head and questioning the author's reason for having written it.
I found myself more invested in the storyline after Declan came back from his mission, he's wounded and struggling to adapt to life. It was heartwarming how Maura helped Declan with his recovery, she was strong and exactly what Declan needed to heal and start enjoying life again.
Overall this was an emotional and heartwarming read that will touch your heart.

Nicely written with good characters and a great storyline. A SEAL Forever was everything you hope for in a romance. There were some issues the sexy Declan Smith was going through and it took a special woman to get him to move forward and to live his life to the fullest! I loved how heartfelt, warm, and action-packed it was.
The story was incredibly sexy! I ADORED Maura and her spine of steel. The moment she meets Declan she sees someone in need of help and she is definitely a wonderful person to do it. She has the inner strength and fortitude Declan desperately needed to move forth after his injury. I felt for Declan and actually cried for him, but at the same time, I wanted to give him a good shake and tell him just because he had an injury, doesn't mean its the end of the world. I can honestly say that Maura gave him something AMAZING, love, patience, and strength. It just was such a beautiful romance and I am so glad I had the opportunity to read it.
A great story like A SEAL Forever, needs an even greater rating. It is with great pleasure, that I give it a SENSATIONAL FIVE SHOOTING STARS!! Its a fantastic read and is HIGHLY recommended, especially for those that love a good military romance.
"A SEAL Forever" by Anne Elizabeth is a story of strength and healing fortified by love and family, who care enough to push each other’s personal limits and settle for nothing more than their best.
Declan enjoys three things — his SEAL brothers, the sea and sampling the many delights of women who want nothing from him but a good time. Master Chief Swifton lives for each mission, supporting his swim partner and team. He has no other family or commitments and likes it that way.
Maura is a former gymnast whose bid for the Olympics was cut short by a car crash which left one of her friend’s dead and caused significant damage to her arms and torso. She’s test driving a gym for six months with the option to buy it and has been gone on her oh-so-sexy neighbor since the second she saw him. But, she’s a bit shy, much more reserved than she was in her teens, and very tongue-tied.
The two are thrown together when Dec jumps into the ocean to save Maura from drowning during a turbulent storm. He carries her in, dries her and puts her in a warm bath, trying to revive the very pale woman.
She sees it as a wake-up call and vows to turn things around, be bolder, go after what she wants, and she definitely wants Declan. So, when they meet up running the next day, she asks him to dinner.
Turns out, there’s something about her he can’t quite get out of his system. He thinks of her a lot, looks forward to their time together and after a while hasn’t grown tired of her — something he usually does after a few “dates.”
Then he gets sent on a mission, one that has too many things go wrong. He wants to back out and try a new plan. He’d outvoted. Things go bad. They blow up the bad guys, but no aware of the weaponry their targets have stashed away, it blows the ground up faster anticipated. it literally explodes beneath him and blows his foot off.
When he awakes, he’s had a couple of surgeries and needs lots of care... and he has a stump where his foot and part of his limb once extended. He faces potentially losing the only job he’s ever known, working with his team, his brothers. He fights to get up and out of the hospital.
But, he’s not quite out of the woods when he gets home and she finds him in his apartment, where he’s fallen and having difficulty. She doesn’t show any reaction to his lost limb, but helps him to her place and makes him comfortable. As days progress she calls him on his attitude and convinces him to go to therapy and get stronger, find out his full options, be as whole and healthy as possible.
She begins taking over the gym, implementing a heroes plan and other measures to get the community involved and offering options to help those who can’t pay and reaches out to the kids to try to give them an outlet other than gangs. Membership is up, kids are coming in to participate instead of vandalizing the gym and they’re making money.
When things begin to look better, he goes back to the doctor to learn there’s a problem with his stump that’s going to require additional surgery. If it’ll get him upright faster he’ll do it. But, after quite a night with Maura, he develops a high fever and won’t wake. Maura calls 911, pretends to be his wife so they’ll let her be with him at the hospital, and waits with him. His SEAL team is home finally, she answers his phone and they show up and wait with her. They embrace her as worthy of their tight group, learning only quite a while later that she’s his girlfriend, not his wife.
He gets surgery after the danger is over and improves mentally and physically by leaps and bounds. Sure, he still has one leg and a stump, but his prosthesis fits better, he knows how to use his crutches and starts heavy training for a military triathlon. One his SEAL team is his partner. They finish second. He has to report in to find out what’s going to happen with his job, if he’ll have one, and if not, what he’ll do. Being a SEAL is who he is.
She decides she doesn’t always have to be in control, trusts her staff at the gym and decides to train again for competition.
This pair overcome a lot together and individually, they are strong together. They push each other, help each other, call BS when needed, and above all love. And, the SEALs are part of their family and instrumental in both healing and moving forward.
I expected an action-packed romantic suspense when I saw the title and blurb of this book, as I'm sure many others did, but it was very far from it. However, it was still enjoyable because this is a different side to the dangerous job of a SEAL, the side that is rarely talked about - life beyond the action and life after being hurt in action.
Maura Maxwell is rebuilding her life one day at a time, since a car accident derailed her plans for a career as a gymnast and it has been a long and difficult journey, but Maura is determined to face her fears and take on new challenges, except her larger-than-life neighbor. Until he rescues her from drowning.
Declan Swifton feels most at home in the sea and his career as a SEAL is exactly perfect for him - the challenges of the job, the camaraderie with his teammates and the occasional hook-up with a woman of his choice - and he wouldn't change it for anything, until the day he rescues his timid neighbor and things change between them. Declan's potentially career-ending injury during a mission is about to test their budding relationship in a big way. One of the things I enjoyed about this book was the minimal drama in their relationship. They enjoyed spending time together and supported each other through everything. I like that Maura, having been through what Declan was now facing, was able to help him deal, provide tough love when needed but also give him his space to deal with the emotional impact of his accident. Declan's difficulties and concerns were very real and touching and I'm glad that Maura was there for him through the hard time.
A SEAL Forever is a cheerful but moving story of hope, overcoming adversity and making the best of a bad situation that highlights the struggles military men and women (and pretty much anyone who has lost a career they worked hard for) face trying to adjust to injuries and loss of their careers and how the support provided through such a difficult time can make a difference.
That said, there were a few issues I had. The biggest one for me was that the jump from strangers to lovers was missing a seamless transition. One moment they were getting to know each other and the next, they were burning up the sheets. This also applies to the growth of their relationship and even movement from scene to scene and it made what could have been a great story just okay. In spite of these issues, I enjoyed Declan and Maura's story and will be looking out for the next story in the series.

I cruise Netgalley on the regular looking for books about sexy military guys and im not going to lie, there is nothing sexier than a Navy SEAL. Combine that with the cover of this book and of course, its on my request list. After I was approved and downloaded it to my kindle, I received a very sweet email from a publicist wanting me to review it for my blog. No problem, I was honored to be asked. I saved the book until the date of the review got closer, lest I forget some of the important details of the story that I would want to include in my review. I started it about 4 days before the review was due so nothing would distract me from the story of Declan Swifton and Maura Maxwell. With all that being said, honestly I could only give A Seal Forever 3 stars. The first 1/2 of the book read really fast but told me absolutely zero about the romantic relationship that was supposed to have been brewing between these next door neighbors who had the hots for one another. Declan Swifton (why doe s the blurb call him Declan Smith?) was a SEAL, of course. The book talks a lot about that; describes in great detail a lot of his training, his missions, his relationships with his brothers-in-arms. Maura owns, or is about to own, a gym. She is a former gymnast and parkour expert. (I had to google that.) The book spends some time at her gym, we see a glimpse of some of the people at the gym, a few of the kids and parents and at one point the gym gets vandalized. There is just too much of everything and not enough of anything. If that makes any sense at all. I felt it was a little... disjointed? The main characters were developed but not in the sense that I needed them to be. I mean, what did they look like? Hair color, eye color, body style? The storyline flowed too fast but none of the points connected for me. They had a good sex life, until they didnt. Declan was depressed until he wasnt. Maura was scared to death to own the gym and then she was ready RIGHT NOW. It just didnt flow for me. One big highlight, though. The author really knows her stuff about the Navy SEALS. I feel that I took away a lot of knowledge that I have never gotten in any of the other books I have read about them. Maybe because she is married to an honest-to-God retired SEAL (lucky, lucky lady) and she has lived the life but I always feel flattered when an author takes the time to do the research or put the genuine facts into a work and not just fill the book with some feel good fluff. Thank you Anne Elizabeth for that. Im sure there are a lot of readers who will love this book and for them it will be a over-the-top 5 star read. I am going to look for more books by this author because I think she really knows her stuff and I probably just picked a book that I wasnt compatible with.

This was an okay read for me - and it should have been a spectacular one!
SEALs/Army/Navy/Marine heroes are always my favorites - they have a depth to them that not many layman characters have to them. And that is what I was expecting when I started to read this book, but it is not what I actually got from the book.
Declan is a work hard and party harder kind of man - he loves his woman and he loves his work. But when he rescues his neighbor, it starts off with a relationship even though it was the last thing he expected in his life.
Maura has seen hordes *maybe not* of women walking through her neighbor's doors and doesn't really want to be one of them. But an accident puts her in Declan's path and all her preconceived notions are slowly but surely getting shot to the high!
Here's what I didn't like about the book the most - there was absolutely NO CHEMISTRY at all between Maura and Declan - not even the companionship kind and I honestly couldn't see them working together as friends let alone as a couple.
And since I really didn't get why the protagonists had to end up together, it pretty much spoiled my whole experience for the book! The plot, the writing and every other thing in this book could have been amazing and I still wouldn't be able to give more than 2 Stars, for I couldn't even connect to the protagonists!
A SEAL Forever seemed interesting. A good plot and two other books in the series that have do e fairly well. I am a fan of military books. There is nothing like reading about a chiseled, muscular soldier coming to your rescue. Just thinking about them is enough to get you hot. So, where was I? Oh yes, reviewing the book. Since this book fell within my reading likes I had to read it.
You jump into the story with our damsel in distress. She has the host for her neighbor, Declan, who happens to be a SEAL. Unfortunately she is shy and he is kind of intimidating. Thanks to Maura's clumsiness and some bad luck, she ends up in said SEAL's arms. I wish this worked in real life because I would have fell down a lot, when I worked on a Naval base, to get their attention. The book just zooms from there, taking you on a fast paced ride through their relationship. You would think that it's the end of the book but of course a wrench has to be thrown into the mix. Their perfect romance is put to the test with tragedy strikes. They have to prove that their love can preserve through it. I found the book to be enjoyable, especially Declan's SEAL brothers they were a hoot. They were the perfect addition to keep the book as a fun read.
The author did a great job in writing this book. You can tell that she did her research and brought that into the story. It made a huge difference in how the book is perceived. Overall it was an enjoyable read that is recommended.

This one was alright for me. The second half was much better than the first half. Maybe it's just me, but I have issues when the lead male character kisses the female lead, sleeps with someone else that same night and then practically starts a relationship with the first female right after that. Almost gave up right there, but I'm happy I held off.
Declan, a Navy Seal is sent off on a mission and things go horribly wrong. For me, that is where the true relationship starts with Maura. The focus on Declan's recovery and figuring out how to move forward in life was beautifully written. Maura's support and pushing Declan to not give up made for a fascinating read. The way they grew as a couple and how they were able to be honest with each other drew me back in.
Happy I finished this book as I love military romances. Gave it three stars as the beginning wasn't my favorite, but please don't give up on it.

The third in a series, but can be read as a standalone. I am a big fan of military romances, and the military elements feature large in this story, in quite a significant way. They help us understand Declan and ground the future that he seeks.
This is an enjoyable read, with some issues for me regarding timing - as in jumping around in time, missing bits I really, really wanted to know more about. Declan is a man who needed to get his head together over the way he treats women, and by the end he has, but he not the good guy from the beginning. Maura turns from the rescued to the rescuer, and has the chance to grow through the experience. The romance develops in spite of the leads, and I liked how it ended.
I am all for romance featuring a military protagonist. That being said, this one so far isn't effectively establishing the setting. I am assuming this is California. Also, when Declan goes on his mission it took several pages of reading before I knew he was in Syria. That would have added more suspense if I knew he were in such a volatile country up front. I wish the author had given all of the important info upfront and them add imagery instead of casually dropping in the info or alluding to it. I realize this is a personal pet peeve but I'm getting all involved in the story.
Spotlight, Review & Giveaway: A SEAL Forever (West Coast Navy SEALs, Book 3) by Anne Elizabeth http://wp.me/p3d0RZ-3oI Publication Date: December 1, 2015 Reviewed by: Reading Pajamas/ Donna Rated: 3.5 Stars
Review: I enjoyed the story but wish that the characters were given more depth so I could relate to them more. That being said, it was a nice sweet romance that gave you plenty to think about. The courage and strength they had pushed them to fulfil their lives and show that love is a precious thing.

Declan knows how to show his woman his appreciation, “I’m terrible with words. They get in the way. I’m better at showing.” He kissed her, putting everything he wanted to share with her in that touch of lips." I liked this book, Declan was am alpha and I loved reading the journey he had to take to find himself again, he has a great woman by his side Maura just would not give up on him and that's what he needed.
This is the third book in the West Coast Navy SEALs series by Anne Elizabeth. This is one of the best series I have read as far as being as original to home life and work life for the military. I thought Anne Elizabeth did a great job with this one. Even though this is a series, it can be read as a standalone.
Maura has been almost stalking her neighbor and she hopes that he hasn't realized it. He is a yummy looking Navy SEAL and she loves being able to get a free show every now and then. The way that he has women in and out of his place though, she is not sure that she should even try to get to know him.
Declan has just finished a relaxing swim and sees a storm brewing so he decides to call it a day and go back in. When Maura heads out with her stand up paddle board intent on mastering this new hobby she has taken up. Maura doesn't realize that there is a storm coming in and heads out to sea anyway. When she gets into some trouble, Declan happens to be the one that comes to her rescue. This is a good way to meet him, right? Lol.
Maura has been so focused on the gym that she has now that it has taken all her time. She has a bucket list though that she is wanting to accomplish and the paddle board was one of them. Well, thanks to the paddle board, she and Declan have been spending more and more time together. As they do, Declan realizes that Maura is a woman that he wants to get to know more about and not just in the bedroom like all his other flings. Maura though questions herself how Declan can be into her when he has had all those other women. She gets cold feet and back off. Little does she know, Declan is being sent on a mission for a little while.
When Declan returns from his mission, he is a different person. Will Maura be able to explain herself to him? When Maura realizes that something has happened while Declan was gone, she knows that she has to be there for him, but will Declan let her in? These two are a good example of give and take in a relationship. I love that about them.
I am anxious for more in this series and I am going to have to go back and read the previous ones. These was very well written and made you long for more. Great job!
When the current threaten to carry her away, Maura promise herself that if she survive, she's gonna be smarter and bolder. So that's why after her neighbor (a SEAL who used to intimidate her by his sex-appeal) rescue her from the storm, she invite him to dinner. And that's the beginning of a whirlwind romance between Maura and Declan who continue during a couple of weeks before she remember about the parade of women who came and went to his appartment not so long ago and worry that she'll be just an other number.
Made me wonder what this book would be about, since the romance seemed already like a done deal. But it was only the prelude for the "real" story. Because before they can talk about their relationship and clear her doubts, Declan have to go on a mission in Syria where a life threatening situation happen and tragedy strike.
Okay, so the main problem I had with this book is, for me, everything happened too fast and it made me feel like I was reading this story in fast-forward. Made me feel like some moments were missing and I didn't have the time to really connect with the characters. And I think because I expect something different and had such a specific idea of what the story would be, I ended up disappointed it wasn't like I thought it would be.
But this team of SEALs is a funny bunch and embody perfectly the indestructible spirits of these courageous men.
This was really cool for me, as I live in San Diego and many of the scenes were from around town. It was fun, picturing just where in IB they were living and which restaurants they liked. The military aspect was also well done, as well as the SEAL 'brotherhood'. I would recommend this for over 17, only because of the graphic flashback for the hero. I'll be looking forward to the rest of the series.
