Edge of Empire #1

Cardinal Points

Rate this book
Adventure / Romance. Cardinal Points begins at the very beginning of the American Revolution, the night the colonists of Boston, threw crates and crates of good China tea into the harbor to protest, taxes and Governors Hutchinson's decisions about shipping and selling.

Jason arrived in Boston just in time to get caught in the brewing turmoil over the tea stored on three ships. He had chosen to make Boston his home because of its busy port and the likelihood of finding a new berth, or even an officer's rank. But the chance to join the town mob, and engage in a bit of anonymous treason was too good to ignore.

Oona was there to help, anxious to be a part of the town's search for freedom and independence. She did not expect, while she stuck feathers in dark wool caps and boot black on familiar faces, to see a smile she had not seen for ten years. And when the man attached to the impish grin picked her up and kissed her while the crowd of disguised men howled, it was as if her dreams of the past ten years had come true.

Kindly provided with a complementary copy by the author in exchange for an honest review......

This is Jason and Oonas tale. It focus's on a time when wealth and affluence mean't who was who within society. Jason is well rich (son of a duke) but he has firm idea's about making his own fortune. Oona bless her is poor, she's a servant at a wealthy house that Jason goes to stay in. Their love is taboo...........but will that stop them ?

A really enjoyable historical romance read. Not overloaded with too much history facts and mind numbing information, plenty of heat and passion. Yup, I liked this one x

Well done Dory xx

A wonderfully written historical book. I thoroughly enjoyed the research and care the author took in writing this story. I grew up in the New England area and love its deep historical roots. I have high standards for books written around the Boston area. That being said the author didn't disappoint. The story as well as the characters are well written and entertaining. A vary good historical romance story.

I won this book through goodreads.

I took this book on a trip with me but accidentally left it on the plane. Fortunately, my husband read this book first and he said that the book got too sexually explicate and it was unlike any historical fiction he had ever read.

An exciting tale of adventure and romance set in the earliest days of what will become the American Revolution. Peppered with real history, the plot moves quickly into a wonderful climatic, unexpected and charming ending.

This is a revised review after reading approximately one-fourth of the book.

This is a historical novel written by an author with a good grasp of history and location, which is the strength of this book. However, the writing style distracts from what could be an entertaining read. This novel needs a good solid edit to fix problems with transition, grammar, punctuation and so on. The main characters are entertaining and well-written, but often contradictory or puzzling in their behavior, comments or thoughts. (Yeah, I know people are often contradictory and puzzling.) But I had too many - what? - moments which never allowed me to get a good grasp of the characters.

Having said all that, I'd try another book by this writer. There is great potential here.

I received a copy of this book through the goodreads giveaway program.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This has more history than a traditional love story, but it does portray what some couples, married or not, went through to be together back then. This time period is interesting in itself, and the story and characters really bring it to life. The author did an amazing job mixing the history and the reality of the time with the love story to make a very enjoyable book.
