Blood Series #1

Addicted in Cold Blood

Rate this book
A super soldier... Born and raised on the planet Zarkstorm, Xzion is endowed with superior gifts of speed and strength, as well as the ability to control minds. He is sent to Earth to wipe out a growing human epidemic-the influx of mind-altering narcotics on the human brain. First item on his agenda: to take down drug lords and street pharmacists.

The survival and future of his world depends on the complete success of his mission. His number one weakness: where his heart should be resides instead a solid block of ice...

A dedicated cop... The local Baltimore Police Department cannot stop the mysterious serial killer who has left a trail of blood thousands of miles long. Officer Jayme Knight is a talented, street smart undercover cop, who has been assigned to investigate the most horrific murdering spree of the century. A Washington D.C. native, she is unknowingly a sacrificial lamb dropped headfirst into a world of treachery and corruption. Trying desperately to track down and identify the killer is difficult enough, but this pales in comparison to finally getting her prize.

Be careful what you wish for... As worlds collide, choices must be made-put duty first, fulfill the mission, or submit to a passion so scorching, so consuming, it has the power to make the impossible possible. This is a tale of devastating addictions, deadly encounters and consequences, and an out-of-this-world fierce love affair. In the end, will Xzion answer to a heart that he never knew existed?

WARNING - This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, vivid descriptions of acts of violence and adult situations that some readers may find objectionable. It is not intended for those under the age of seventeen.

This author has a wonderful imagination and she gives a gift every time she writes a book like this one. Xzion i never knew an alien could be so sexy and dangerous at the same time. Xzion is from Zarkstorm he comes to planet earth to help his race , he is a cold blooded killer until he meets Jayme. While investigating a case of a serial killer Officer Jayme Knight starts to investigate Xzion . I like they the author had them fall in love before they had sex but when they did come together it burned up the pages. This is a wonderful book I just hope we get to read more about this couple.

If you like your romance mixed in with a bit of drama, action and suspense, then you should definitely give this book a try. I've read quite a few of this author's work, and so far this is my favorite.

At the beginning I didn't think it would be possible for me to like the hero, after all, he was a mass murderer! But by the end I was in love with Xzion! He was so devoted to and in love with Jayme, who is kick-ass too, by the way.

Of course, this book is full of scorching hot love scenes which made this book all the more fun to read. ;-)

5 stars.

Oof, content warning uh. Well should've added something about this being utter nonsense and how no one should waste their time with this.

This is just a stupid story. You have a planet called "Xarkstorm" (a typing error will not save you from my mocking laughter you edgy fuck) where the idiots living on it have lasers in one eye and used to be warriors, but now their evolution is making them unable to survive on their own planet and they're all dying off. So they send 1 warrior guy, just one, despite having an army full of them still, off to earth to get samples of human blewd because that helps them, and he starts by killing off all the drug dealers because drugs keep this alien species from controlling our minds.

I-Hmm-oof. Where do I even begin with this? Well first, that isn't how evolution works. Like at all. Evolution is, crudely, the best survives, but that doesn't mean the strongest, the fastest, or the coolest. It just means the one that's fittest to survive the current environment. Something small that doesn't necessitate lots of food will do better than something who needs eat three times its weight in the aftermath of a flood or drought. So if these aliens started evolving in a way that would have them get killed by their own climate, that path would become a dead end because they would all die.

Also lasers holy shit

EPISODE 1: THE AUTHOR WHO REALLY REALLY WANTED ROBOTS

These aliens are very robotic- like, very robotic. As in, they're robots. They have cameras in their right eyes, chips in their brains and a metal thing in their wrist. They "overheat" and have "data banks" or smt. Also no emotions- or do they?

Yes and it's stupid but let's deal with this first shall we! So, how... does the camera work? How is it not fried by their laser, which can kill a man from a fair distance away? Because yes, they put the camera in the laser eye. Then the wrist thing. Every time it's mentioned, it's described like it's within the character's arm, but they can just remove it? Without lasting damage? Sure...

EPISODE 2: OH FUCK NOT ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE COUPLES AGAIN

Meet Jayme, a cop. She's stupid and relatively pathetic, but you're not supposed to think that yet. Then meet Xzion (yes that's his actual name, pronouced "Ex-zy-ion", courtesy of the author) who's a stalking, judgmental, violent asshole who kills drug dealers and innocent witnesses. They are the main characters and fall in lurveee... based only on physical attraction and Stockholm Syndrome.

So Xzion is in this bar and sees Jayme and immediately his Main Character detector goes off, triggering an extremely detailed description of her stupid sweaty ass wiggling on a pole. And then they fall in love and get married.

Seriously, this is a somewhat valid description of the thing. Ok, sure, I may have skipped over some 10 chapters or so but what happens in these chapters is exactly this! He's just horny for her ass and even goes so far to spy on her every. Fucking. Morning when she's exercising - in her apartment on the 3rd floor. How was he never spotted..? Anyway, yes. He just wants to fuck her. That's all it is. It's the only reason he doesn't kill her when he catches her in his house. He just wants her to want to fuck him and then she's done. Sure, he falls in love but excuse me if I don't believe the transition when all this fucker was saying was how love is stupid and worthless.

Here is the scene where they fall in love: Jayme has been held in this guy's home for a while. She's tried a bunch of tactics to keep control but they never worked. Xzion is nice with her tho, giving her his room, access to the bathroom and feeding her well. They have tense interactions, with Jayme trying to manipulate him at every turn and get him to reveal something while he's just trying to figure out what came over him to keep her like this.

Then Xzion overheats and falls over. She catches him and lays him on his mattress, then he kisses her and she kisses back and then bam! Next day they're having a date outside and she's all teasing and cute while he's slipping up and losing control left and right.

Would you believe me if I told you this was the interesting part of their relationship.

EPISODE 3: ARE YOU SURE THAT'S NOT...?

SEX! Adults have sex, right? And since this is an adult book with ~serious matters~, there obviously needs to be sex! S E X

Hoo boy, the sex. I don't remember if it was after the candy thing or the AA meeting, but they have sex, and n e v e r s t o p. Xzion even stops killing people he's so busy fucking Jayme into the mattress- and drinking her lady juices, which I just got info from my insider who says this is very questionable unless this bitch flows more than the Niagara Falls- or she's just pissing in his mouth.

But yeah, pretty much the entire 2/3 of the book is just these assholes fucking.

EPISODE 4: THESE MIRTHLESS OBSIDIAN DEPTHS REVEAL YOUR TRUE COLORS

And it's purple. Here have some examples of them violets:

" It would explode on contact inside the victim, ripping them to shreds as if a tiger was clawing away beneath their fleshy surface trying to break free back into the wild."

"The chilly Saturday afternoon proved to be blustery and uncomfortable for most, but Xzion relished the cold drops that fell from the sky, dotting his skin, moistening his hair, absorbing into his thin T-shirt and darkening his jeans with each step."

"The waitress returned with the perfectly circular globes of chocolate chilled paradise [...]"

Never write like this or I will find you and burn a thesaurus before your eyes. Doesn't help that this is coupled with the worst narration ever, which is ehh 3rd person-trying-to-be-limited with extreme overuse of the thinking italics.

Like, this is fine when you're grounded in the characters and the scenes, the reviewer thought to herself, but when you've got 10 of these in 4 pages and with pronouns changing and no consistent voice, you'll start wondering just who in the last kingdom you're following.

EPISODE 5: IT WAS THE ILLUMINATI ALL ALONG

Once these idiots have stopped fucking for 10 minutes, we see the plot come back, maybe. Jayme sees some brains in Xzion's house and finally remembers that he's a murderer of more than 10 000 people (his own words) and that she's a cop who should be arresting him.

But get this... so the reason Jayme is even on this case is because she knows the community and the FBI needs leads, so they got her on the job. They told her not to be a hero and take Xzion on by herself, which she sees... as... a... challenge. "Oh the pwuny womyn can't dewit." WHEN HE KILLED LIKE 2 COPS 2 DAYS AGO AND 6 DUDES AT ONCE.

Soo... she goes to his house without telling anyone and gets caught.

Then it's revealed to her- not to us, we already knew through the uselessest chapters of all time- that the FBI expected her to be an idiot and get herself killed but to leave traces for them to follow. And it's like this big betrayal, and she even goes so far as to plan their murders with Xzion, but is it just me or... is this kind of a ridiculous reaction?

I mean, she's a cop. She risks her life everyday. She's going after a serial killer who killed cops, cops she knew, days ago. He doesn't mind going after witnesses.

Did she... think there were no risks at all?

But that's not the best part.

Remember Jayme found the brains and recalled her job? Well, after seeing her revolted by him, Xzion just lets her go- but only after dropping this bomb on us:

"If the FBI finds out you’re still alive, they’ll interrogate you, and then kill you, Jayme."

That's going from 0 to 100 real quick.

What makes him say that? Like ok apparently the FBI knows that he's an alien and are trying to get him, they even know his name for some reason, but erm in that case, a case where there is an active force who knows his secrets and could potentially find him, why in the fuck is he leaving marks on the bodies?

Yeah, that's a thing he does. Leaves XXX and stars and shit. Just... why?

But yeah what makes him say they would kill Jayme? I would think recruiting her would be their first choice. She came back alive, with info none of them ever came close to, and is the weakness of their best warrior. Why wouldn't they want her back on their side..?

But it's ok Jayme kills one and Xzion does the others, it's fiiine.

EPISODE 6: I THINK THIS BOOK IS STUPID- OH WAIT AN ANECDOTE

The way the characters change is absolutely retarded. For one, what the 1st person thinking I talked about does is to explain to us what is going on. Ex:

Jayme: "Let me go."
Xzion (mentally): All right, I'm done.
Xzion: That's enough.

Such powerful insight in the mind of this very complex character.

But the most aggravating part is this; the changes the characters go through are always signaled right before. For example; Xzion is going to fall in love, so right before that he needs to observe a couple kissing for 2 minutes and google "love and affection". Another one, and the stupidest for me is; Xzion has a rant about addicts choosing the addiction. Jayme immediately takes him to this AA meeting where Xzion is super mocking of the moderator's motherly and reassuring behavior. Then one person talks about their experience being addicted, and immediately Xzion is impressed at the moderator's control on the room and how she appeases people.

EPISODE 7: THEY DIE AT THE END

I wish. But nope, the ending is just... is it endings? It doesn't end is what I mean. You have them going to Jayme's parents for dinner, which is just an irritating scene that highlights how useless Jayme is.

~AA Meeting~
Jayme: I wish I could've stood up for my brother when my parents kicked him out because he's gay.

~At Dinner~
Jayme: *laughs her ass off at her dad taking the piss out of her fiancé during the dinner prayer*

Then Xzion goes to kill some more FBI agents that I actually didn't even know existed, then he meets with the guy who betrayed him and they make up kinda and they have a baby and he's fine and oh yeah there's another alien threat coming to Earth which I'll give lots of details about but none of them show up here it's for the sequel- but yeah totally a stand-alone guys.

Rose are red, violets are blue, I finished this box set and please don't do this to you.

Great book!

I don't know who I love the most, Xzion or Saint, lol. Xzion is sexy, dangerous and unapologetic for all that he's done. But he loves the hell out Jayme and he doesn't know how to handle it, and he's determined to make her his. Loved this book. Once again, Ms. Laveen has managed to throw in prevalent social issues and discuss the hell out of them. She really makes you think! It is my mission this summer to read every book that she has written. Her writing style is entertaining, as well as thought-provoking! I'm fairly new to her work, only reading a couple of her series so far, but I'm going to change that! If you haven't read Ms. Laveen's work, you are really missing out!!

Out of this world love story.

I always love Tiana's no matter if it's paranormal or just flawed humans. Her use of symbolism and dealing with difficult subject matter a is a gift that she possesses to the highest degree. Once again a five star read because their is nothing this author can write that's less.

A Sci-Fi Adventure That Missed the Mark for Me

I dove into this book hoping for an out-of-this-world adventure, but it left me feeling more puzzled than captivated. The premise is intriguing: Xzion, an alien warrior, is sent to Earth on a mission to find a specific type of human blood that can save his planet. However, the execution fell short for me.

The story raised more questions than it answered. Why couldn’t Xzion simply go to a blood bank to collect the necessary blood? How did the aliens figure out that human blood was the solution to their survival? These unresolved plot points distracted me from fully immersing in the narrative.

While the action sequences were entertaining, the pacing dragged in parts, and the world-building felt incomplete. The book has potential, but gaps in the plot and character development hindered its ability to hold my attention. As a long-time sci-fi fan, I’ve come to expect more depth and cohesion from stories in this genre.

This wasn’t a total loss—the romance subplot added a spark of intrigue, and the alien warrior trope had its moments. However, compared to the author’s other works, this one felt lackluster. If you’re a fan of lighter sci-fi or enjoy alien romance, you might enjoy this as a quick read. However, if you’re looking for deep world-building or a tightly woven plot, you might want to pass.

Great book!

MS. Laveen is one of my favorite authors, and when this book came out, I knew it was different than her other books, but I was not disappointed! From beginning to end this book had my attention! The love between Xzion and Jayme was awesome and I was sorry this book ended! The bright side is there is a part two to this book, and I am excited about reading it! Thanks you, MS. Laveen!

The human race is a sickness and Xzion has the antidote. Or does he?
This is not your typical hearts and flowers kind of a romance. The hero is a seriously flawed super soldier who believes that his mission on earth will serve a "greater good": The survival of his species. The heroine is a relentless cop who believes in getting her man or die trying...

This is not a quick read where you can get your jollies in 2 minutes flat. Prepare for a long haul before you get to the good stuff. I'm all for erotic fiction with a plot but the author did take it a bit to the extreme with the tortuously long build-up before the characters officially meet. All the same, this is still a good read if you're looking for something a bit out of this world:)

Riveting sci fi Romance.. It kept me engaged and oh boy I just knew that once Xzion tapped into that emotional side all hell would break loose or the heavens would open up( whichever way you wanna look at it). Jayme was determined and played her cards right. It's interesting their coming together and I loved that a friendship of some sorts was built from that even though you'd think it wasn't possible and how that all evolved was like... WOW!!

This book is about what we as women already know men are the same no matter where they come from. They can be stupid and intelligent at the same time but we love them anyway,I enjoyed this story and would definitely recommend!
