Mandy White lives on Vancouver Island. She may often be found lurking in the forest, daydreaming dark thoughts that inevitably come to life in print.
Her work often features Canadian characters and locations; she delights in twisting her everyday surroundings into weird and disturbing tales. Caution: if you happen to cross her path, you may find yourself in an upcoming story.
This story is quite interesting. It starts with a twin in search of her sister who has gotten herself involved with a bad group of people.. After finding the twin sister, the story unravels into a tale of revenge. After finding the twin murdered, our main character uses the twin's journal to seek retribution from all the bad people that played a part in her murder. Then the story changes. There's a twist that blew my mind because it was totally unexpected. Then the story turns into what could have possibly been a whole new book. The gore level in this book high. One gross scene with an outhouse have me chuckle out loud. Overall, this book was unique and I liked it
Let me start by saying "Holy Wow!" I loved this book and, despite it being gruesome and horrifying, I couldn't manage to put it down! Author Mandy White is an expert in writing horror novels and this one is no exception. Not only did The Feeder have all of the aspects of a good horror like suspense, murder, bloodshed and a tortured- yet lovable- victim, it was full of intense and eye-opening real life situations that pull at your soul and nag at your subconscious.
Ms. White has a way of going where many authors dare not go and delves deep into the minds of the tormented and disturbed, casting a light onto the dark side of society. And the twists! Just when I thought the story was over, came a mind-blowing twist that knocked me off of my chair! I never saw it coming. It was an interesting end to the story which brought out awareness to a true life circumstance and also allowed you to see further into the heart of the main character, which was fantastic! It tied up all loose end and questions nicely and made me go back over the whole story in my mind, saying "OH! WOW!"
I would highly recommend The Feeder to anyone who likes a down and dirty, sick and twisted horror novel, sprinkled with a side of blood and destruction. If you are faint at heart, than the Feeder is not for you, but if you are up for the challenge, get ready to cringe, cry and squeak, for The Feeder will bring out some of your worst nightmares. I will definitely be reading more of Mandy White's work and hope there will be a second installment of The Feeder.
On a scale from 1-5, I give The Feeder a big bloody 5 star!
When Sammie receives a frantic call from twin sister, Cammie, there's no choice but to fly to LA to try to save her. The journey takes Sammie places unexpected and just when you think you've figured out who Cammie's killer is, guess again. Graphic, violent, gory, and incredible, The Feeder explores the mind of a serial killer. The story is unpredictable and disturbing in many ways.
Out of all the book reviews I've written, I'm finding this book the most difficult to review. I keep finding myself erasing entire sentences because I don't want to spoil the story. I can say the author is masterful at getting into the psyche of characters most writers shy away from. Through first person POV and journals written by a victim, we experience the hopes and shattered dreams of an actress-turned-prostitute, the pain of addiction, the seedy side of Hollywood, the twisted thoughts of a sociopathic killer, and the rationalization of a reluctant serial killer. In many places, the story is dark as we travel through the unbelly of a major city and meet the bottom feeders of society. Murder isn't the only way to destroy a life, as we discover in this novel.
Pure heart-wrenching horror kept me turning the pages even though I was often repelled by the sick deeds of a twisted killer. Sammie's kick-ass courage in the face of sheer terror kept me enthralled. If you're a horror lover looking for a thrilling read, this is the book for you.
In case you didn’t read the title, it’s called The Feeder. That should tell you what to expect. This novel is very violent and some of the characters’ treatment of women is downright vile. But they have to be so that their punishment is well deserved.
I have a pretty strong stomach and I’m a fan of Saw and The Collector as well as the Dexter books (and series). Yet when I read Camille’s Diary, I had to stop. I was revolted by her treatment and that shows how well this author writes. I always judge a book by how it makes me feel. If I laugh, cry or want to kick the S##T out of someone, it’s a great book. And believe me, you will want to see a couple of guys get what they deserve.
I have read so many books, I can usually predict where it’s going. Not so with this one. I had a few surprises along the way. I especially liked the ‘second’ half of the book, where you really understand Sammie.
I love surprising twists and suspense, and there is plenty of that in The Feeder.
Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. At one specific part near the first quarter of the book, my jaw literally dropped. I don't usually have such dramatic physical reactions when reading, but the descriptions were pretty intense. Mandy White does not sugar coat anything in The Feeder, a story of revenge.
Tuck yourself in, and get comfortable, because the chills keep on coming!
I wanted to started off by saying my favorite part of this book was just how graphic and gruesome this book was. The story behind it was thrilling and for the most part kept the reader on the edge of their seat, fore, there is nothing is better then reading about gruesome revenge when the character has a good reason. The character development was very well done. I enjoyed how the author shared the background of Cammie by using diaries that she had wrote over the years, with her twin Sammie reading them. Sammie's background was also well developed, however much later in the story. The only thing that I would of liked to see was Sammie's background be introduced earlier and incorporated more through out the book instead of it being thrown in towards the end which at times became confusing. Some of those things the reader should of been able to know while reading to make certain situations easier to follow. Despite this one little bump, I really enjoyed the raw intensity of this book and its action packed vengeful plot. I look forward to reading more of anything this author has to offer.
This book was gruesome just for the sake of being gruesome. While I love me some gore and blood and guts, there's got to be a good reason/plot for it. Sammie just seemed to snap and start killing left and right.
I found her reasoning and dialog laughable. I didn't finish this one.
This was a great book! Aside from the fact that it made me squirm like crazy at times when it would get a bit graphic it kept me hooked with surprising twists I really did not see coming. Well written with some good insights.
