I full-on tithed my childhood in reading this and I regret nothing. This was far more entertaining than it had any right to be. God bless the relentless power of nostalgia mixed with cool art and some character-driven slam-bang action.

I am so glad I picked this volume up in Trade Paperback (used) format from Amazon. I have been reading tons of G.I. Joe/Snake Eyes/Cobra thrillers for the past several months. Mostly from Comixology Unlimited which have many of the collections/volumes/individual issues I have been reading on my 8 inch Kindle Fire tablet. I have bought an issue here or there, but mostly just borrowed from Unlimited. But neither Unlimited or my digital library had the G.I. Joe American's Elite series available to borrow. So, I bought the first two volumes so far in the paperback format. Love this volume. Great art and a mature story line. Brings me back to years ago, but with a modern take on stories. Any new G.I. Joe movie should be based on this series (America's Elite: Disavowed). Instead of the campy/slightly comedy format of the first 2 G.I. Joe movies. This series is Die Hard/John Wick kind of serious! I am busy coaching my youth soccer team in a tournament this weekend, but starting Sunday afternoon I will start on Volume II. Then I need to go ahead and order Volume 3 (and the remaining volumes soon after). If you like action thrillers you will LOVE these stories. Not for your kids or grandkids anymore. Did I mention I really like this volume?!?!?

I read the original GI Joe comics run as kid and enjoyed them. I didn’t follow this continuation when it was first released but I did want more of those characters, so I thought I give this run a read. If you want more Storm Shadow, Snake eyes, Roadblock and Duke its worth a read.

This was a nice continuation of the DDP story line. I like that GI Joe is a small clandestine outfit now. It goes with what their original mission was in the first place. Cool mystery to unravel, good battles and interpersonal drama. Very entertaining read.

Public library copy.

This was one of the best illustrated G.I. Joe comic books I've seen in recent memory. It's no wonder the artist has since gone on to the big leagues at Marvel. I personally find it unnecessary to modernize the original cast of military character's costumes or to draw the book in a superhero style, but it still looks miles better compared to the works seen at the this work was first published and now. I normally enjoy stories by Joe Casey, but the narrative was jammed alongside another interrupting work and I think the writer got out of his comfort zone.
