By now people following my reviews probably know that I read most of Doreen Virtue's work. I had been avoiding this particular volume for months because I like to think of myself as a recovering Catholic. However, I decided that if anyone was going to give me a picture of Mary that I could deal with, apart from the weird, judgmental stuff I've gotten from the Catholic Church growing up, it would probably be Doreen. For me, this was the least believable of her books and while I seem to have come to less of a knee-jerk negative reaction, that doesn't mean that I really believe in the stories in this book the way I tend to believe the ones about angels. It's ironic, because I guess Mary has a number of established shrines dedicated just to her where positive things happen, much moreso than angels have... but I just can't wrap my "recovering Catholic" mind around this one. That said, I will say that some of my disbelief has been suspended compared to when I started the book. If the Catholic Church was an accepting Church in general I may have found it easier to connect to Mother Mary, but I never did, and honestly even in the book she said that the encounters with Mary would involve messages like, "Only Jesus and I can save you," and requests for penance. I can't get behind that stuff. Ick. (Even though in other circumstances Mary supposedly says there are no sinners.)

Like the book she wrote on Gabriel (forthcoming), this book has an appendix of bible references. It also has a separate appendix of prayers (which go beyond the Hail Mary).

Doreen Virtue's books enhance faith in those that already feel it, and help those who are searching their souls, by sharing with them true stories of healing miracles and direct intervention.
Mary the Holy Mother is also presented as the Queen of Angels, a role I have always learnt she has, working in close cooperation with Archangel Raphael regarding all sorts of healing processes, as well as accompanying future Mothers during pregnancy and birth and those who are departing from physical life. The book is a prayer. I loved it.

This book was filled with stories about people who were touched by Mother Mary through healing, consolation, protection, or just knowing that Mary was there for them. It was so reassuring and surprising at how many people have seen the Blessed Virgin Mary.
A few thoughts: December 8 was stated as the feast day of the Immaculate Conception. This is not when Saint Anne conceived Mary. This feast commemorates Mary being born without original sin, a sin we are all born with.
In the section where there were the parts of the Bible where Mary is mentioned, it did not have the Wedding at Cana. The wine ran out at the wedding feast. This is where Mary tells the servant to do whatever Jesus tells you, and the servant gets jugs of water. Jesus then does the miracle of turning the water into wine.
I certainly will honor Mary more after reading this book. The prayers in the book help. I will also take better notice of the various Mary statues and pictures of her I come across.

Very interesting for those who enjoy hearing of people's visitations, apparition experiences etc. This book is non-denominational, so gives a great insight in to many religions and how people from all over the world and throughout history have come to believe in the strength of prayer to Our Lady.

as you probably can tell huge fan of Doreen Virtue's angel stuff so when I saw this deck I have to get a copy. this deck contains 44 beautifully detailed cards and an informative guidebook. I haven't gotten around to using the actually cards yet, but I have flicked through the guidebook and when I have free time I intend to try these cards.

Interesting to anyone with an interest in miracles involving the mother of God as well as understanding the influence of faith in everyday life and challenges. Through stories, Doreen Virtue illustrates the ways in which the Blessed Mother helps those who reach out to her and also suggests that Mary is available and willing to listen to our prayers whether for recovery from illness or finding employment, help with relationships, and particularly with mothers and children.
According to Doreen Virtue Mary makes herself known in such symbols as roses and statues.

A book that didn't take me long to read.

A wonderful book which told of stories of people who had reached out and were touched by Mary in their time of need.

The book also talks about spiritual places in which Mary has been sighted.

Includes prayers to Mother Mary.

Not an in-depth book about Mary, but a delightful book to read and be touched.

This book is part talking about how Mary can be your real mom who loves you, part people’s often similar and normally implausible (yet touching) Mary miracle stories about how Mary is our real mom who loves us, small part brief history and explanation of Mary and Marianism, very small part Marian prayers.

You know if you’re the kind of person who would weep and feel a lot better for reading a book like this. I definitely am. Still, it could be less repetitive.

This is how Mother Mary helps those you pray to her and keep her close. I do think the writing could have been better. Much the same theme runs through all of it. This isn't to say I don't appreciate the miracles or the help given by Mary. I just think this could have been better.
