The journey of a lifetime becomes the holiday from hell.
In a brand-new murder mystery by the author of The Flight , a yacht crosses the North Atlantic while a perfect storm of suspicion and vengeance develops onboard . . .
Duchess is about to set sail from Scotland to St. Lucia. But before she even leaves port, a crew member storms off in anger. It’s only the first in a series of events that will beset Helen, the skipper, her best friend, and the remaining crew. During a port of call in the Canary Islands, an experienced sailor is found badly beaten onshore. As a replacement, Helen calls in her son—despite objections from her crew who know of his unsavoury reputation. Then, a near-fatal allergic reaction raises the tension level—and finally, during a fierce storm, someone goes overboard.
Is this a run of bad luck or is one person at the heart of the turmoil and violence? And if so, can the culprit be identified before they reach the Caribbean?

I can't believe I can say that I've officially read Heather J. Fitt's THIRD book now, but I am so happy I got the opportunity to do it! The Flight is still my favorite, but The Boat Trip is coming in at a close second and talk about a twist! I could see a couple of the twists coming, but the big one I didn't at all, and it made my mouth drop open. The book is a little on the slower side of pacing, but still paced extremely well and it never got boring or felt drug out. Fitt had a frustratingly secretive way of writing this story where you don't always know what our MC Helen is hearing on the phone/sat phone, and it definitely made me want to hurry to find out what was going on ASAP! This gets especially important once you know she has been told who is behind a certain something.
I realized at the end that I needed to read the prologue again, and man my mind was BLOWN. I would say I didn't love the ending as much as I could have, but the way everything tied back into that prologue was great. It takes a bit to get into the actual boat trip, but once we do we have plenty of drama and intense scenes. And you know everyone is questioning everyone at a certain point, and I loved that air of mystery and tension. There is quite a bit of boat lingo used and not all of it is explained, but for the most part, it was easy to pick up on what things meant as I got further into the story. The Boat Trip doesn't have the most likable characters you will ever meet, but it's got plenty of drama and I love Fitt's writing. I would highly recommend it if you are a fan of locked-room mysteries, thrillers in general, and books set on the water!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
My first Heather J. Fitt book, and I'm now happily anticipating the next one! This was brilliant- fast paced, gripping and very dramatic! There are a few characters to get to grips with (a character list would have been great) but you soon realise you're following with no issue. Fitt has clearly done her research into sailing- either that or she has it in her own background, but each term is explained and you are left to be carried along with the plot like the waves of the story. I really enjoyed this one, and fans of locked-room mysteries are sure to enjoy it too.
Heather Fitt’s 3rd book was welcomed with genuine excitement after the first 2….it sounded perfect….a Whodunit on a yacht sailing across the Atlantic…..I was not disappointed. Got to say although love going on cruises have never been onboard a yacht and so loved learning all about ‘yachting’…..how the inside looks, how the sailing feels, what goes where and what duties each crew member has…..was a real insight into this world and as have said before I really enjoy learning new things through a fiction book that wouldn’t necessarily read about otherwise A varied set of characters and I have to say I did not like Helen, the ‘Captain’ and main character at all,I can’t go into why but you will see when read it….. The story itself is well paced and well written and as always with this authors books a picture is painted and continues to be painted on every page and it kept me guessing right up until the epilogue A really good, tense read that got me to ask what I would have done in some of the situation's that arose and then ask myself again!! I will continue to excitedly wait for this authors next book 😊
The Boat Trip is a compulsive suspense thriller about a group of friends & acquaintances who have been commissioned to sail a yacht across the Atlantic from Glasgow to St Lucia, where everything that could go wrong, does go wrong! This is Heather J Fitt’s third novel and she’s delivered another highly readable mystery - this time of the “locked boat” variety. After a couple of overly long novels that completely destroyed my reading schedule, it was a joy to get back to a fun page turner that I finished within 24 hours!
Helen is an experienced sailor who has gathered together nine others of varying skill levels to help her transport The Duchess, a high end sailboat, to its new owners in the Caribbean. She desperately needs the money, but also wants to help out her best friend Erin, who’s been through tough times, so puts aside her concerns about some of her crewmates and determines to make the best of it. There are arguments from the get go, but as their journey gets underway, the team seem to be bonding, until a series of mishaps suggest that someone on board could be a killer…
Sailing anywhere much further than a day trip has never appealed to me, so this is my idea of the holiday from hell. (Or one of them - I’m not keen on those giant cruise ships either!) Fitt has crafted a clever suspense story with a believable cast of frenemies - few of which are in any way appealing. Told from Helen’s first person past perspective, we know from the prologue that things have gone badly for her, but the fun is in finding out why. The descriptions of sailing out into the open, days from help, and particularly during a violent Atlantic storm, were vivid and terrifying, and show that Fitt has once more done her research. I did guess whodunnit this time, but that didn’t affect my enjoyment one bit. 4.5 rounded down for the ending - no spoilers!
Thanks to Heather and Bloodhound Books for the ARC. I am posting this honest review voluntarily. The Boat Trip is published on June 26th.
I really liked this new story from Fitt. At first I thought it was a slow burner, but I particularly liked how the writer turns the screws in the last quarter of the novel, with plenty of surprises crammed in the final chapters.
Joining the crew sailing the Duchess to Saint Lucia, readers would believe that skipper, Helen, is in for an easy sail. Yet, problems haunt the voyage from the very beginning and it seems that this is a doomed sail from the Scottish seas. From a suspicious allergic reaction to a tragic accident, it would seem that this journey is going to be troublesome. Knowing that the open seas offer little protection, I felt Helen’s unease as she begins to realise someone on board is trying to sabotage the trip.
Despite the vast number of characters, Fitt develops them in such a way that I did not get lost in the different identities. Instead, I found I was a bit lost on board the yacht itself with some of the terminology. This did not lessen my enjoyment of the story and it is evident the writer has carried out a lot of research to make this a vivid portrayal of a sailing trip. I thought that some characters were given more attention than others and think I would have liked to see more detail about Bella’s backstory, rather than just the explosive argument in the earlier part of the narrative.
As the story progressed, I did have a theory about what was going on but I was still surprised at the final revelations. Indeed, when I did not think things could get more intense for Helen and her voyage, further surprises are thrown into the narrative and I think this is where Fitt really develops the suspense of the story. I could not put the book down by this point and the chapters raced past because it was such brilliant story-telling. I almost wished the novel had this level of intensity throughout.
Once again, Fitt does not disappoint with her new novel. We are sailing the seas on a grand yacht yet, the events that take place make me think that maybe dry land is the place to be…
With thanks to Overview Media for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It wasn't action-packed and at times I felt it relied too much on boating jargon, but I kept finding myself looking forward to sitting down with it at night. It was a fairly relaxing beach read. I think the plot could use a little more work but the writing and dialogue was great. I'll definitely check out more from this author.
This story is very well-researched and I enjoyed learning more about yachting; about everyone’s roles and what needs to be considered. I found it a little slow to get going, but once it did there were lots of twists and turns, with well-thought out characters and an interesting storyline. However, I did find it a little difficult to keep all the characters in my head. I was also a little disappointed in the ending; I was hoping for more to happen. Overall, a good read.
I received an ARC from BloodHound Books for an honest review, thank you, and all thoughts are my own.
I’d like to thank Heather J. Fitt for inviting me to take part in the blog tour for her latest book.
⌛Once again Heather J. Fitt delivers a book that is so addictive, you don’t want to leave your seat. Which is pretty much what I did. I consumed this book in a day and thoroughly enjoyed the read.
🤫With lots of different characters, all with intriguing backstories, you are not short of a suspect or two. I enjoyed seeing how the different characters developed and finding out the secrets they were hiding.
🛳️Set onboard a yacht, knowing there is a killer amongst them, the tension amongst the crew was palpable.
🌟 Fast-paced, filled with secrets and lies. You will find this to be a highly entertaining and quick read!
All aboard for a classy whodunnit! This was an extremely well plotted murder mystery with a bunch of fairly dubious but totally compelling characters who you are never quite sure which ones are telling the truth. The confined space of the Duchess lent itself brilliantly to adding to the tension and atmosphere, and the danger on the high seas added another level to the drama. It was well paced and consistently tense, the loose ends were satisfying tied up at the end but not before the author leaves you with one heck of a final twist at the end! Loved it!
ill be honest i was super disappointed with this read, and maybe it was just the mood I was in - idk ⭐️⭐️ 2/5 stars
it just seemed to drag on with so many useless details, and there were like 10 characters which were way too many for my liking. there was, however, a good plot twist but i kind of saw coming.
i could see this book being a movie and it being far more interesting, but it was just way too slow and drama-filled with useless details that seemed to drag on for me.
Heather Fitt did it again. Started off with a bang and then off we went. She must’ve done some homework on boating as terms used definitely felt like the boating world was there. The characters were full on and kept you wondering. A great thriller with mystery and a way that kept me going. Hate putting a good book down once it gets me! I need to know & this was a need to know style of book. Thanks!
Thank you Bloodhound books for the kindle copy in exchange for a honest review. Helen has been commissioned to skipper the yacht Duchess to the Caribbean. She pulls together a crew of experienced sailors she knows and trusts alongside her grieving best friend. The drama starts before they even leave the port! A dramatic journey when Helen realises she has invited a killer on board the yacht.
This is the first book I have read from this author, and it definitely won't be my last. Great read, that I enjoyed from the first page. Great mixture of different characters but not in a confusing way, like some books can be with multiple characters. Easy to follow and understand, with some decent little twists and turns throughout - great read.
I have a problem with this author - the build up is always good, but the ending is always disappointing. I kept waiting for a proper twist that would blow my mind but it never came.
The start is rather bold, as the reader comes across the yacht skipper Helen in hospital with two broken legs. She is fretting about the future and ruing her recent past, the trip that caused all the trouble. Here she lays out the mistakes she made, which gives away some of the plot but piques the interest rather than puts you off. There are a great many secrets within and these are gradually exposed throughout the story, making it quite a page turner.
Essentially this is a story about human frailty; about making mistakes and not learning from them, not being able to put right wrongs and not taking heed of the warning signs. Helen’s biggest mistake is the reason behind her taking the assignment on. She thought it would be a straightforward task, where she is out of harms way and can earn some easy money. It transpires that the trip provides none of this. The second major error was to involve her son Danny. The original plan was for son Connor to be a crew member, but when Hugo is laid low in Gran Canaria, she decides to rope in Danny at short notice to fill the gap. Connor is a nice young man; Danny is a waster who has ending up with a life in crime and to whom a trip to the Caribbean provides ‘opportunities.’
The novel is very much in the psychological realm, as ten people are corralled on a boat together in the middle of the vast Atlantic Ocean with only a satellite phone to contact the outside world, when in range. Crew members fall out with each other, tensions mount, tempers fray and accusations fly. When one of their number is lost at sea, ‘man overboard’ it is originally seen as a terrible accident, but after time doubts form. The tension and paranoia here is where the story telling excels and nicely judged by not being overplayed.
The nautical side felt credible to me without becoming too specialist and boring, it certainly brings home the need for crews to be a team, to work together and foster a sense of harmony. Trivial falling outs prove difficult, the vitriolic arguments onboard Duchess prove almost insurmountable. Here there is plenty of dialogue as home truths are delivered and prejudices aired, though one member appears to be taking it in their stride on the periphery. If anything was missing it is perhaps a bit of black humour to defuse the tensions, but the nearest we got to that was some glib comments by Danny.
No trip across the Atlantic should be plain sailing, so the reader is treated to the seasickness of the Bay of Biscay followed by a humdinger of a storm mid-crossing. This bit is excellent as we can see all the preparations needed before the storm hits as well as the exhilaration of sailing through it. Helen has a particularly tough time, battling the storm, her crew and trying to find the MOB member.
The core theme is family and protecting the ones you love. Helen’s friend Erin is beating herself up over the death of her daughter Rhea, whilst Helen’s deep maternal instinct is to try and protect Danny, whereas for the rest of the crew there isn’t a boat hook long enough to keep him safely at bay.
An excellent fast paced psychological thriller examining human frailty.
I have had this book on my Kindle for far too long and came across it while skimming through the books I have on my Kindle library. I am so glad I came across it as it was a wonderful read.
Helen is going to sail a yacht across the Atlantic, she will need a crew as this is not a little craft, it is expensive and she will be paid for transporting it. The crew is a mix of experienced, amateur, and newbies. Starting from Scotlnad going towards the Canaries, then on to St Lucia for delivery.
One of the crew is her friend, Erin, another is her son Connor, and others. As the synopsis relates, one of the crew is beaten so does not make the whole trip. He is not the only one. There are arguments, shocks, twists and turns as what should have been a pleasant trip turns into one full of suspicions, fear and drama.
This is a very good read and it is the first time I have read a book by this author. The author has used the weather to great effect in this book and she has been very clever to make it almost a character in itself. There are calm times, there are nervy times and then there are full-blown arguments and a sense of danger and this is mirrored in the weather especially when the crew are heading into an unseasonal storm.
The crew are a good mix from the meeker more timid, to the vociferous. With judgements being made and people on edge, nerves are frayed and tension increases. They are in the middle of the Atlantic, with no help for days, they have supplies, a sat phone and other essentials. So when things start to go wrong they are by themselves. When a crew member disappears it is the last crew member the finger gets pointed at. He is Helen's other son, the one no one trusts and has a bad reputation for the anger and suspicion is aimed at.
With a mix of weather, characters, opinions, experience and traits, the suspicion of who is the culprit is small. It means there is a sense of back-biting and of people starting to pick sides as they try to work out who would be capable of essentially trying to commit murder.
This is a relatively quick read at 256 pages on my Kindle. It is a tense crime thriller and one that has plenty of twists and turns and I really enjoyed it, I will be looking at this author's other books in the future. It is one I would be very happy to recommend.
Heather Fitt is a new author to me, so I had no preconceived ideas of what sort of read to expect, what I got was a read packed with suspense and drama with a compellingly written narrative.
The setting on a yacht taking a trip across the Atlantic with its sense of claustrophobia played into creating this heightened level of tension, it had all the hallmarks of a classic locked room mystery.
The way the book starts allowed me to be introduced to the characters and for the storyline to build, and build it did, the writing had me drawn in from the opening pages. The book is exquisitely plotted allowing for plenty of mis-direction.
The characters within the book are a varied mix, you can get a sense of the type of person each are, there is that litlle something about each, that sense of hiding something or secret being held, again this created that level of doubt into each so that your’e never quite sure about their motives. It is a read where are freindships and loyalties will be tested to the full, you have the right mix of characters which create an uneasy atmosphere
In addition you then have the setting, not only does the writing give you a sense of what it is like to be on a yacht, but then you have the expanse of the sea, both decriptively written giving you a real sense of place.
A read packed throughout with plenty of twists where it becomes harder to know who is telling the truth and what that truth is, the book throws in plenty of red herrings which kept me on my toes as I read on
I found the pacing of the book spot on for the plot and the journey being undertaken, nothing hurried it allowed things to play out naturally
The drama built into the finale with its myriad of twists and the unexpected, it had me totally hooked
A read where there is plenty of heart and emotion built into the characters and the plot
The prologue is interesting in the fact that I re read it once i’d finished the book in a different light.
Whilst the author explained and gave a real sense of what is involved in crewing a yacht, I don’t think i’ll be setting foot on one anytime soon
This was a read which had me hooked throughout
Will definetly be seeking out the authors other books
I devoured both previous novels by Heather J. Fitt so I couldn;t wait to join the tour for The Boat Trip, and I was not disappointed.
The Boat Trip begins with an explosive opening which kind of lays the groundwork for how things end up but not how they get there or specifically what happened. This immediately left me wanting more and struggling to put the book down after just ‘one more chapter’. The short chapters made it just too irresistible and moreish to stop. It is definitely a one sitting book if you can spare a few hours locked away.
The opening of the book builds the tensioner really quickly. A group of people (some known to each other - others a new addition to the crew) get together to sail a boat to the Carribean under the charge of Helen. Very quickly it becomes clear that there are histories, issues and a boatload (see what I did there?) of things that don’t mix well on board. The suspense was strong from the outset and really kept the pace of the story moving.
The mix of characters was really well thought out too. Many dubious ones that seemed to be hiding something or not quite comfortable to be around and some downright unlikable characters (which I love in a book). I love not being able to trust characters in a book. For me, it makes the perfect crime/thriller.
I know nothing at all about sailing but I learned a lot from this book. Heather has either sailed, or has done some serious research to be able to write this in such detail. It never felt like strange territory as everything was written or explained clearly but there were no lengthy explanations to stem the pacey flow of the plot either.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and highly recommend it. SO far, Heather has had us delving into the world of incels, in danger in the air and now in peril on the sea. I cannot wait to see where we go next!!
‘The Boat Trip’ is a brilliant and entertaining whodunit on the high seas! I have loved Heather’a last two books and I was looking forward to picking this one up. This is definitely her best book by far and I devoured it in one day. It is action-packed, full of tension and has great characters. What is also clear is that Heather is either au fait with the boating world or put a hell of a lot of research into it, as it was full of interesting points of reference. It meant the book was rich and authentic and a very interesting read.
The Duchess is about to sail from Scotland to St Lucia. Sounds like a dream voyage. But before they have even left Scotland one crew member has stormed off in anger and that's the beginning of worrying events. Helen, who job it is to skipper the boat has a tough journey with her best friend and the rest of the crew. During the port call in the Canaries one of the crew is found badly injured on shore and as a replacement Helen calls her son. Something that is not a popular decision with the rest of the crew due to his bad reputation. After the leave to head to St Lucia one of the members suffers a near-fatal allergic reaction and then a member goes overboard. Helen needs to admit to herself that they have a killer on board and work out who is pulling all the strings before it is too late…
This is such a readable thriller of the ‘locked room’ variety albeit on a very expensive yacht! I thoroughly enjoyed ‘The Boat Trip’ and loved all the tension and mystery that built up to a huge crescendo of reveals! Heather managed to create a great cast of interlocking stories and acquaintances that makes this an entertaining read. There is no one good guy and no one bad guy, everyone has their own secrets and motivations and I was kept guessing right to the very end.
I've been a big fan of Heather J. Fitt's writing since her first two books, "Open Your Eyes" and "The Flight." Heather's writing is just super. "Open Your Eyes" was intense and dark, delving deep into the scary world of the dark web. "The Flight" was a thrilling mystery set on, no surprise, a plane, and I was hooked from the first page. So, when I got an early ARC of "The Boat Trip" by Heather J. Fitt to review, I was overjoyed.
However, "The Boat Trip" didn't quite meet my expectations. Don't get me wrong; Heather J. Fitt's writing is still top-notch. She has a way with words that draw you in, making you feel right there with the characters. What didn't work for me was the single point of view in this book. It felt more like reading someone's diary, and I feel having multiple perspectives would have added the missing depth and excitement. In such a small space as the yacht it just needed more.
"The Boat Trip" by Heather J. Fitt is about a yacht named Duchess embarking on a journey from Scotland to St. Lucia. Right from the start, tensions run high as an argument erupts among the crew. This is just the beginning of a series of unsettling events that plague Helen, the skipper, her best friend, and the rest of the crew. When they make a stop at the Canary Islands, things take an even more ominous turn as an unexpected guest joins them. Then, a near-fatal allergic reaction ratchets up the pressure, and during a fierce storm, someone mysteriously goes overboard.
In conclusion, while "The Boat Trip" by Heather J. Fitt didn't quite reach the same level of enjoyment for me as her previous books, her writing remains exceptional. Her ability to create a vivid and immersive world is unmatched. I would still recommend giving it a read, especially if you're a fan of her unique writing style, but be prepared for a more singular perspective in this particular tale.
Helen is the skipper on the Duchess, and is being paid to deliver the luxury yacht to St Lucia in the Caribbean. She sets sail from Scotland, taking along two experienced sailors and seven assorted keen amateurs who are paying for the experience. For some of them, it’s their first Atlantic voyage. Things don’t start well when it transpires one of the crew has a deep hatred of another, and a third one is generally disliked by everyone. At least she has one of her sons, Connor, and some old friends to help her. However, when tragedy strikes during a stopover in Gran Canaria, she is forced to enlist her other son Danny as a crew member, despite knowing that her friends consider Connor’s twin to be bad news. Coping with close quarters and seasickness on this month-long journey is bad enough for some of the team but then strange and sinister events start to take place. With trust and morale at an all-time low, Helen finds they are heading for a storm in more ways than one. Maybe the superstition that setting sail on a Friday brings bad luck is true after all. This story flows effortlessly and kept me engrossed from start to finish, in fact it was tempting to read this in one go and I really didn’t want to put it down, desperate to know how the plot progressed. Despite starting off with ten main characters, they were all excellently portrayed and I got to know each one very quickly, a testament to the quality of the writing. I found myself suspecting each person in turn through the twists and shocks that materialised in this great “locked room” type mystery that culminated in a cracking finale and I can highly recommend this book. Definitely the best book to date from this author and I hope there will be many more!
This is my first Heather J Fitt book and definitely won’t be my last one. Heather delivers a fast paced thriller that will keep you on the side of your seat most of the time and guessing who is the killer, someone who you won’t believe when it is finally revealed. What started as an idyllic boat trip for some and as a routine for others becomes a nightmare for everyone when one crew member is attacked on a rest stop at the Canary Islands and it has to be left behind, another one suffers a near fatal allergic reaction, a disappearance of a crew member during a storm. Are these incidents just bad luck or is there something sinister going on on this trip? The descriptions of the sailing, the functioning of a boat and the preparations before, during and after a big storm at sea shows a high level of research from the author and makes the read of the book more enjoyable and educational for the reader. The mystery, who done it, and the relationships of the crew members, most of them frenemies, makes the book one hard to put down, you really want to keep reading to know what is going to happen next and to try to descifre the mystery of why all these unfortunate situations are happening, if they are related one to another and at the core, who is the one at fault here. I’m looking forward to reading more books from this author.
This author is very quickly becoming a master in suspense stories. Her latest one takes you on a boat trip from the West Coast of Scotland to St Lucia in the Caribbean via Gran Canaria. Helen has been tasked with delivering a new yacht to St Lucia and assembling a crew to assist her. Her assembled crew all know each other and some have previous history in relationships. You would think that this would make for plain sailing but you couldn't be further from the truth!
Even before setting sail animosity between certain crew members was rife and Helen had her hands full trying to maintain a modicum of peace on board. On reaching Gran Canaria in one piece that quickly changed when a crew member was posted missing and another person recruited to assist in the second leg of the journey. He was known and instantly disliked by all. He also came with conditions which put the whole journey at risk. Things were only to get worse with one member being murdered during the trip. The suspect was one of the ten crew which again got tensions rising.
In reading this book be prepared for a rough journey on board and many twists and turns in the plot line. It is a wonderfully story which has been very well researched.
This is a must read thriller that you won't want to put down.
A group of friends and inadvertently not-quite-so-friendly, are delivering a yacht to St Lucia from Scotland. There are some experienced sailors and other keen amateurs who have paid for the experience- which turns out to be far more of one than they ever expected. Written from the point of view of the skipper Helen, this tells of their trip and what befalls them en-route, from accidents to murder and more.
Brace yourself for the swells and pitches on this trip of a lifetime all in a book. A trip I really wouldn't want in real life I hasten to add! Heather is always so immaculate in her research which even to anyone not familiar with sailing means the reader is put at the heart of the action standing alongside the skipper. It's a cleverly crafted, well thought out plot which keeps the pages turning after lights out (backlit kindles are a joy!). A state of perfidy at times where friendship and even safety are tested and compromised to the limit. A brilliant read to the very end. I’m smiling writing this as the plot is so proficiently fashioned. A belter of a read. Loved it.

What would you do if a dream sail from Scotland to St Lucia turned into your worst nightmare? What if you, as captain of the boat, inadvertently invited danger on the trip, putting your entire crew at risk?
This book pretty much has everything you could want in a suspense read, with past secrets and character histories overlapping, and being revealed slowly throughout, and a really interesting study of the dynamics of a small crew thrown together in an unthinkable situation. A web of lies and deceit is slowly woven for us, putting everyone at risk in an isolated and claustrophobic environment making it impossible not to read another chapter!
The characters themselves are complex - you find yourself rooting for one then another, and switching allegiances as you go. Helen isn’t the most relatable narrator but you can understand her frustrations with the crew to an extent, and you get hints throughout that there’s a lot more to her character and background than we initially believe.
A tale of murder, smuggling, dark secrets, plotting and lying which all come together in an explosive narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the very end.
I have absolutely loved Heather's previous two books, Open Your Eyes and The Flight. The Boat Trip doesn't disappoint.
Helen an experienced Skipper convinces her best friend Erin to take a trip of a lifetime sailing from Scotland to St. Lucia along with ten experienced sailors. Erin has had a difficult couple of years since her daughter's death.
Everything started of fine, well apart from an unexpected old love rivalry! They all settled into a routine of charting the yacht for their first stop in Gran Canaria and it's at this point everything starts to go wrong.
With an unexpected new crew member that everyone hates. And an unusual storm in the middle of the Atlantic, what more could possibly go wrong?
Heather again has put some amazing twists into the plot and the ending is sublime. The research into sailing across the Atlantic and what jobs people on board have to do is brilliantly written, at one point the description regarding the storm had me feeling seasick! Another fantastic read.
The journey of a lifetime becomes the holiday from hell. The author's third book, a cracking murder mystery.
Helen is telling her story, her job is to take the yacht the Duchess across the Atlantic from Scotland to Gran Canaria in November no saying what the sea will be like. Along with crew members her best friend Erin, Hugo, flick, Connor, Carl, Nick, Jonty, Bella and Sean it's a boat trip like no other, The Duchess is going to become one big crime scene.
I find myself saying this author's work is just getting better and better, mind blowing all the way through, just who do you trust? who is telling lies? it's definitely totally unputdownable chapter after chapter with far more twists in every single one.
Then BOOM!!! the end will shock you to the core. I will definitely boost this read up to all readers, and this author is going to go far in her work, every book so far has surprised me even more and more and eagerly leave you hungry for more.
10/10 But I will have to stick with 5 big almighty ones.
I also got who the killer was fairly early on, but I was still going to give 3 stars because I enjoyed the setting, until I felt cheated at the end. Spoilers below.
