A Sliver of Hope

Rate this book
My twin sister was the only person in the world I thought I’d known inside and out. Apparently, I was wrong.

Twin sisters share a unique bond, one that can't be broken by miles, time, or even death. Hannah and Hope Morton are no exception. When Hope takes her own life, Hannah loses a sister and a best friend, a catastrophe she isn't sure she'll survive herself.
With her family in ruins, Hannah is slowly disappearing, drowning in a sea of misery. Even her wild, energetic best friend can't pull her out of her grief. Desperate to help Hannah, her brother comes home from college, bringing his best friend Julian along, the first boy to break Hannah’s heart. None of their efforts are enough to pull Hannah off her self destructive path, though. Julian is the only one who can get through to her, working his way into her frozen soul with cocky remarks and genuine love that warms her from the inside out.
As Hannah works to find answers, she continues to uncover new secrets and people that reveal a side of Hope she had never shared with her twin. Alone now, Hannah must make a decision of her own: move on and start a new life with the people she has left, or let the weight of her grief drag her down with her sister.

Karla J. Nellenbach divides her time between dayjobbing, writing, and indulging in her Winchester (Sam and Dean, that is) obsession. The rest of her day is spent playing butler to a cranky old man masquerading as a housecat and two rambunctious puppies that closely resemble small horses.

Born and raised in the wilds of Michigan, she knows two immutable facts: (1) it is entirely possible to live in a thumb, and (2) you definitely can go home again…you just might not survive the winter. Having resided in the sunscape of Florida for the last decade, she’s still on a quest to see a real live alligator outside of the “petting” zoo.

This was a freebie over on Amazon and I hadn't got round to it as I had a few in the queue before it, but I finally started it... and couldn't put it down.

I hadn't read the above blurb or any reviews on Goodreads as is my habit, so I actually had no idea what it was about, which I am pleased about as I was as shocked as Hannah when she discovered Hope. From then on, the emotion was literally thick and was pouring off the page as I read the story.

Hannah goes through the stages of grief and Nellenbach portrays each stage brilliantly. So much so, that I found myself crying, getting angry and finally moving on as and when Hannah did. I'm not easily moved, but this book brought out so many emotions, it was like a rollercoaster.

The characters were completely relateable as they all had a common 'issue' and were linked even if they weren't family, but the character of Hope was probably the one character that I was desperate to kow more about, especially when hannah met Billy. - I have to admit, I still don't quite get the reason behind Hope's lies to him, but the story was rounded off very very well. Doug was quite possibly my favourite character as I would want him to be my big brother.

All in all, this is an amazingly emotional story that covers a subject that many authors shy away from. It's tasteful and makes the reader think. Things always look different from the outside. Well worth the read.

Do you have a heart? Yes? What about working tear ducts? Yes? Do you like to read? Yes? Good! You came to the right place!

A SLIVER OF HOPE by Karla Nellenbach is a story that will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. It starts with April Fool’s Day...identical twin sisters, Hope and Hannah Morton’s favorite time of year. Pranks are their favorite thing to do. After a handful of pages, though, you realize this isn’t your normal April Fool’s Day and everyone’s world comes crashing down. We see all of this from the eyes of Hannah, in the form of her journal. I like a traditional story telling method, but I absolutely love when a book gets the story across to the reader using a non-traditional method...like a blog format, or in this case, a private journal. It feels like you are seeing a side of someone’s personal life that you normally wouldn’t see. Nellenbach puts so much feeling and soul into Hannah’s journal entries I couldn’t help but feel what she was: Shock, Sadness, Numbness, Anger, Loss, Confusion...and Love. It makes you wonder if Nellenbach just found someone’s real journal and copied it...it is just that good!

I had the honor of reading A SLIVER OF HOPE prior to its release. I had read Nellenbach’s other novel, ALWAYS AND FOREVER, on a recommendation from a friend. Upon hearing how much I loved it, I was asked if I’d be interested in reading this one. In past experience, if I love one book by an author, I’m more than likely going to like more of their work. This was no exception! And I never turn down a good book! Another cool thing I found out is the author is from my hometown area, which makes it even cooler and I can tell others she is a “hometown chic”. Ha!

As if from a page of my own personal journal, I’m telling you...go get a copy of A SLIVER OF HOPE. Make sure you have some tissues for your tears and sniffly nose. Maybe a box of chocolates to make you feel better. And enjoy the ups and downs of this ride. It will be totally worth it.

First I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to YA Bound for introducing this book to me. I have been reading the same things over and over again and decided I needed a breath of fresh air and low and behold I see that there is going to be a blog tour so I decide I am going to check it out. A Sliver Of Hope is was so much more than what I bargained for. I mean I went from zero to sixty in the emotions department so many times I couldn't figure out if I wanted to laugh or cry or scream my freaking head off. I mean the books opening starts out so strong full of anger, hurt, and just deep sadness that I have known because my best friend killed himself right after I left him and everyday I kept thinking if I just stayed and talked to him some more he would not have done that. It isn't true because he wanted out of this life and he took his exit.

In A Sliver Of Hope we meet Hannah and Hope. Hannah and her twin Hope do everything together and are inseparable until her twin decides to end her life. Hope kills herself and when she does she leaves a slew of questions as to why because NO ONE saw it coming. She was happy go lucky even till the end. The death of her twin has broken something inside Hannah and she can't figure out why Hope would do that. It is in these dark days that everyone is grieving that Hannah just shuts down. It is this time when her older brother Doug comes back home to visit from college with his best friend Julian.

This adds a little more stress to Hannah because Julian is the first guy she ever loved and the first guy to ever break her heart. But Karma has a funny way of coming back because Julian is the only one who can break through Hannah's walls of defense. Julian helps Hannah feel something and soon she is opening up and feeling things she thought were dead. Can Julian help Hannah move on? What lies ahead for these two? Can she ever forgive her sister for what she did to the family? This is a HEART WRENCHING and GUT WRENCHING story but it is also about love and moving on.

I received a review copy of this book for my stop on the blog tour at Donnie Darko Girl.

Lately I seem to be reading books that delve into the subject of grief. I tend to gravitate toward books dealing with this topic as my own life at one time was torn apart by the anger and depression that come about as a result. After the death of my mom from cancer, there were understandably days where I wasn't sure if it was worth it to continue struggling to live. I wanted to see her again so badly that I did contemplate suicide. I don't know anyone who has committed suicide, so this book not only gave me insight into what it would be like to deal with the aftermath of a loved one's suicide, but also the devastating consequences after someone has taken her own life had I chosen that route.

The main character, Hannah, is left shattered and stunned after her twin sister takes her own life. She's drowning in her own grief, grappling with questions to which there are no concrete answers, and there doesn't seem to be anyone to pull her out - each member of her family is lost and drifting away alone. There were so many moments I wanted to shout at them all to band together and fight their way through this together. I didn't want to see them each go through this alone, but Hannah and her family's reactions were so genuine and so real that I knew they were only getting through each day as best they could. Grief is messy and complicated with no right or wrong way to express it.

Not only is Hannah dealing with the fallout of her twin's suicide, but she also finds out she didn't know her twin as well as she thought she did. Imagine finding out your twin had a secret side to herself that she didn't let you in on and now she's gone, unable to answer your questions. How would you feel? Hannah already felt betrayed that her sister decided to kill herself - now she feels even more betrayed learning there were huge secrets her sister hid from her.

Hannah's frequent outbursts of anger were definitely understandable, and I could completely relate to how she felt in those moments. Death is so final, and knowing that once it happens, there's no going back brings out ugly emotions that are uncomfortable. It's so easy to drown in grief alone that it made sense to me that Hannah secluded herself, even from those who desperately wanted to help her but weren't sure how.

There definitely aren't all heavy moments though, and many of the lighter funnier moments come from Julian, one of my favorite characters in the novel. He seems to be the only one who really can bring Hannah out into the light for at least a moment or two. I can't help but agree with Hannah's feeling that her parents took her to the altar of a therapist in the hopes that he could "fix" her. My only wish is that this book had been longer - I couldn't help but want more! What's the history between Julian and Hannah? What was Hannah's sister like, and why did she feel the need to keep things from Hannah?

The story is beautifully told, and you really feel every moment of grief and anguish as if the characters are real people you know and care about. You see how suicide affects everyone the person left behind and how it can drive them all apart. I'd love for a second book where Hannah's sister narrates. If you want to know more about the effect suicide has on family and friends whether you've contemplated it yourself or you have lost someone this way, you definitely need to read this book!

My initial thoughts- This book is great! The story really draws you in and keeps you there. Such a sad story that really shakes you to the core. Written in diary format, the style is different than what I'm used to, but after only a few chapters I found myself immersed in Hannah's story. You feel her hurt and her want to just understand. If only she could grasp just a sliver of her sister Hope (<-- you see what I did there) she could realize what has happened and move forward.

This is a really fast read. I finished in only a few hours. As the story unfolds you just have to keep reading, you want to know what's going to happen next, and you need to know how Hannah is doing. Hoping that she is getting better and praying she will be able to move on. I have never had, nor lost a twin, so I can only imagine the pain it would cause to lose your other half, and I feel Nellenbach did an excellent representation of it in this story.

By the end my emotions were worked, from the end of one love, to the beginnning of a new/old one. Through the twisted lies and hidden secrets, Hannah emerges from the shadow of her lost sister and into her own light. She ends with a new beginning and an understanding of how little others show their true selves and how to trust again.

Characters-
Hannah: Seeing as we are reading this story from her diary, I have to say she is an excellent story teller *wink, wink* Even though I don't have any actual experience with this kind of incident, Hannah was very relatable. The girl that lived in her sisters shadow, the girl that was always second best, or an add-on in everyone elses lives. Now she is the main focus, but they still only see her lost sister Hope. It would definitely suck to be identical twins and lose him/her, so that everyone that looks at you is clouded in pain of seeing a person they loved dearly, only it isn't your twin, it's you. I feel for Hannah, that would have been terrible. The story was told so well through her eyes. I feel her struggle.

Hope: I kind of hate her. She seemed to have everything she wanted, but she was depressed and sad underneath it all. Her character honestly seemed unrealistic to me, but then again that depth of depression is hard for me to even comprehend. Overall, I just feel for everyone that was a part of Hope's life, she was adored and loved by so many and she decided to take her life before it really even started.

Julian: Swoon worthy man alert. Hannah and Julian used to be in a relationship, they were the IT couple. Everyone loved them together and I have to say I was loving them together as well. Julian is very supportive to Hannah, he is probably the closest person to her after she loses Hope, and the only one that can truly comfort her in this time of grieving and confusion. He is without a doubt a yummy hearthrob. Can't get enough of him! The book was too short, I need more Julian.

Doug: Is such a good older brother, so sweet. I really enjoyed his part in the book. He had a strong sense of family. He may not have known what to do to help, but he did the best he could.

Overall-
Definitely worth the read! You will go through it fast, so if you were on the edge before you mind as well just dive on in! You really get a great story with good character development. The book has stayed with me long after the last page was turned. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Cover: ... was one reason I chose to review this book. It's simple, but feels like a piece of art to me, more like a picture displayed in a gallery than a book cover.

Framework: I love twins and their psychology, that's what drew me to the book. I was a little disappointed at that front, but this was an intreesting trip nonetheless. So this is very much about family and death and coping, of secrets kept and answers you'll never get, moving on and starting over. It's a very deep book, which I actually wouldn't recommend to a YA audience because of the center question that remains unresolved. The diary form may not be to everyone's tastes, but I thought it fit quite good here.

Plot: You get thrown right into the raving thoughts of Hannah who was left behind. The story is told through her diary entries which makes it a bit uncronological per entry, but not in a confusing way. It tells how she slowly mulls through everything, how she clings to memories and rage, yet falls apart, and finally manages to mourn and cope and move on. The only thing I missed was the event that made her change her mind to move forward again. It was more like from one day to the next, she decides it's enough with the pity party without reason although she couldn't fess up before regardless of her pity-hating character. Made me scowl big time.
The same thing about the unresolved main point. There was a small explaining why Hope killed herself, yet there was no resolving the issue why she pretended to Billy she was someone else entirely. Why she felt she had to keep him a secret at all, etc. Makes you think, and makes you sad if you consider sometimes it can't be all resolved and that some people just have to live with that all their life. And that is precisely what I think does belong into an adult book, not YA.
But it was nice to read Hannah getting her lost love back, and all the stages one might go through when losing someone this close. The emotional aspect was very good for the most part, considering the back and forth and... quite alive.

Characters: I can't say I particularly liked Hannah. She was more the character you saw thorugh, but couldn't connect with unless you've already been through what she wrote about. She was weak at first, describing how she always lived in the shadow of her older sister Hope. However, I came to like the person she was towards the end who was actually quite the burden-carrier.
I LOVED the side characters though. Hannah's brother Doug and his best friend/her lost love Julian, as well as her best friend Glory. They all were so supportive and worried and.... did just the right thing. Hannah was really blessed to have them at her side.

Overall: Not for everybody, not too easy to get into, but a book to think about.

Area Scan: Flow: 3/5 -- Vocab: 4/5 -- Plot: 5/5 -- Heroes: 4/5 -- Villains: 3/5
Romance: 4/5 -- Drama: 5/5 -- Action: 4/5 -- Suspense: 4/5 -- Humor: 5/5

The story

A Sliver of Hope is a story about losing people you love and finding the courage and inner strength to move on.But sometimes that's not enough. You need help.Help from your family, your friends and even professional help because saying goodbye is never easy..But honestly..we never say goodbye,do we?

Hannah and Hope were twins, best friends and ready for their last school prank on April 1st.But that never happened because Hope, amazing athlete, brilliant student, most popular girl, the golden child, the perfect one, committed suicide leaving Hannah back to pick up the pieces.

The characters

Hannah always thought that her sister was as bright as the sun.Always excited,cheerful...and happy. So why take her own life? That's one of the many questions that Hannah is trying to answer. She can't sleep, she barely eats, she can't face her family or go to school without bursting into tears. So she locks herself into her room where she communicates with Hope the only way she can.By filling her diary with post after post talking to Hope like she was still there with her.She tells her how her day was,her insecurities, her fears and then she asks her how could she do something like that to her family, her friends and herself.

Her parents decide to send her to visit a psychologist to help her but Hannah is anything but willing to talk to Dr. Cole about Hope or anything else. But the person who helps her the most is her ex,Julian.

Julian attends Columbia just like Hannah's brother Doug. They have been best friends forever and when Julian broke up with Hannah, right before he left for college he and Doug had a fight and their friendship was tested. But now both guys return for Hope's funeral and to help Hannah get through this.Julian has regretted not being with Hannah and he's determined to get her back.Forever.

The guys with Hannah's good friend,Glory, have helped 'broken' Hannah to put the pieces of her heart and soul back together.Skipping school and going to the beach, attending parties and countless hours of talking and just being there for her made her realize that Hope's gone but there are people who miss her too.But they also miss the old and full of life Hannah.

Verdict

If you loved The Fault in our Stars by John Green, then this is a book you'll want to read.Funny, sad, romantic, revealing, unique, inspiring, heartbreaking and emotional,A Silver of Hope is a must-read.It's never easy to lose somebody, but you have to keep going because that's life...

I started this one and it didn't take me long to get through it. I couldn't put it down I needed to know why just as much as Hannah did. I was going just about as crazy as she was.

This is written as a journal from one sister to another. I actually didn't have a problem with reading it. There were a few parts that I felt like did stray a little but then that was when she was mad at Hope and she wasn't talking to her. So I had to remind myself that when she would put 'you' she ment Hope, not me. :)

My heart broke for Hannah, for her mom, dad and brother. I just wanted to hug her whole family. There is so much that needs to be figured out and I wanted to jump in and just search every inch of the room myself. As the time goes by and there are little things that are brought out that confused me as much as it did Hannah. I couldn't figure out what was going on. I felt like things were getting back on track for this poor girl and then something comes up and she has to deal with something else...to try and figure out what happened, who her sister really was.

Her being a twin must be hard on everyone around them. The death of her sister, yet everyone looks at her and sees Hope, but knows it isn't her.

Okay so this is something that I can relate to on a personal level. We had a friend who is an identical twin and when he passed away and they had a funeral for him on base where we lived and his brother showed up. I couldn't stop crying because it was like he was there but he wasn't. It was just so hard. So when she has to explain that she isn't her sister a couple times, I can only imagine what she must be feeling.

There is a lot of hurt and healing. The relationship between her and her brothers best friend helps. That of course is the one guy that broke her heart so she wants to hate him, for that reason alone. He does help to try and distract her from everything that is going on. She tries, and tries to move on and forward but she has some set backs along the way. We get to see how her and her family learn to heal from the heartache of loss.
It at times was a very emotional read and I enjoyed every bit of it.

This book was really easy to read and I finished it in a few hours. It deals with the grief and guilt of having someone you love kill themselves. Always wondering if there was something that could've been done differently, wondering about the whys and hows and not being able to say goodbye.

A Sliver of Hope is a journal written by Hannah to her twin Hope, asking her all the questions about her suicide that she couldn't find the answers to as she wallows in grief and her life spirals down. When people Hope kept secret from her twin start to turn up, Hannah wonders if she truly knew Hope. With the help of Julian, her ex who seems to be the only one able to melt the ice around her heart, Hannah has hope of picking up her life and moving on.

A Sliver of Hope was beautifully written and I liked the authors style of explaining things, however I didn't like the fact that Hannah blamed Hope throughout the whole book. I felt that everything was said more than once and it bored me after a while. And there was the reason Hope killed herself. I was expecting something big, bigger than a note with a few words. I wanted to know more about Hope, and with the fact that she was hiding secrets from her family I thought we'd get a look at her life and how she really was, but we don't.

But this book isn't just dark and sad, it has its moments when I laughed out loud, or swooned, mostly when it included Julian. I liked his role in the book. He'd broken Hannah's heart once, yet now when she really needed him, he was there for her to lean on and help her find herself through the sadness and destruction her sister's suicide left in her life and family. Hannah, Julian and all the other characters felt real, their sadness and emotions were reasonable, they were trying to pick up the pieces after the loss of someone dear to them, dealing with guilt, blaming themselves for not noticing that something was wrong with Hope's life and helping her and then blaming her for not giving them the chance to help her.

A Sliver of Hope is a heartbreaking book that had me reading it with tears in my eyes and that I couldn't put down until there was no more pages to read.

Emotional. Powerful. Unique. Those are the first three words that come to mind when I think of this book.

Hannah is broken, scarred, and completely lost. She can't seem to move on with her life. She's in a total funk after the loss of her sister... her identical twin... her best friend. She can't seem to accept the fact that her sister, Hope, chose to take her own life. Hope, who always appeared happy, apparently had a few things she was hiding from Hannah, as well as the rest of the world... and it didn't stop at whatever was bothering her. Hannah searches for answers to why Hope would do this, and discovered more than she bargained for along the way.

Though this story centered around the loss of Hannah's twin sister, there was also a romance aspect that brought the story down a sweeter path now and then. Just when I thought I would run out of tissues, the story would switch and have me smiling and giggling. I fell in love with Julian right away. Though he had his flaws - you know, being a teenage boy and all - he was still sweet, and caring, and had Hannah's best interests at heart.

A Sliver of Hope is written more as a journal - Hannah writing to Hope. Questioning her and asking for answers. I loved how creative a story it was. The fact that we got to see inside Hannah, inside her thoughts and her feelings, really helped me to connect with her. I could feel her crashing down, seeing no positive end in sight. A loss such as Hannah experienced is hard to imagine unless you've been there yourself, but Nellenbach does an amazing job of portraying the raw emotion beautifully.

I would definitely recommend this story. It's strong and often left me breathless. It's one that I won't soon forget.

Thanks to the author for the review copy.

After reading the blurb I wasn't really sure what to expect in this book - but I say that in the best way possible. Would it be a romance? Would it be a book about over coming grief? Would it also have a little mystery? Well I am very pleased to say it is all of the above.

This book from start to finish took me just over 5 hours because once you start you literally cannot stop, you need to know more to the extent that the outside world no longer matters, You become connected to Hannah and need to take the journey along with her.

The book has a unique way of telling a story, it is written like a diary. This is the first time I have read a book in this format and I really enjoyed it as you are able to really get inside the mind of Hannah and know things that otherwise would not have been said.

This book will make you ugly cry - yes the evil ugly cry that can cause body shaking and in some cases not. Oh my but it is so worth it, any book that can literally make me feel instantly gains a high rating.

Your heart will ache for Hannah and the loss of her sister Hope, you literally feel pain for her family. I could never imagine loosing a sibling and to loose one as such a young age really affects you. Like Hannah you begin to question everything and there where so many questions that needed answering.

This is a book all about healing and finding out how to deal with what has gone on and working out how to move forward. I loved watching the relationship between Hannah and Julian, you know he wants to help her but you can also understand that it is hard for her to trust him after he broke her heart,

A Sliver Of Hope was really about not realising that you are disappearing until you're already too far gone. Hannah and Hope are twin sisters. They are two beans in a pod, two souls and one heart. So when Hope takes her own life, Hannah is left alone with nothing to clue her in on why Hope did it.

I really enjoyed this book! One surprising part of this book though, was that it was written in a diary entry. I found that really different and unique compared to other books out there and it was a great change.

Hannah was a really likeable girl, I felt like I really connected with her in some ways. I haven't lost anyone really close to me yet, so I wouldn't know what it felt like. But I could feel that pain that Hannah felt inside by reading the author's words. It was just so addicting, like I was living as Hannah, feeling all of her emotions. Anger, happiness and pain.

By reading the diary entries that she wrote, I really could picture everything that she was describing. And of course, I really love Hannah's relationship with her brother. How he was so protective towards his sister, and how he cares so much about her.

Of course, how can I forget about Julian? He was charming, he's really protective of Hannah as well, but in a really good way. I really love Karla's writing. I love how she wrote the story in a diary entry instead of a normal story, I really love how unique this book was!!

It was a bit short, but that just made me want MORE!! I can't wait to see what Karla has in store next!! I just couldn't put this down!!!

Wow.... Just wow, I don't think I have ever read a book that evoked so much emotion, I think I actually ran out of tears by the end of the book I cried so much, bare in mind I am en emotional pregnant women so my hormones are pretty much everywhere, but I challenge anyone to read this book and not shed a tear.

Hannah's whole world is turned upside down and ripped apart when her twin sister Hopes takes her own life with no explanation. Hannah had always believed her sister to be the most confident and secure sister out of the two but her sisters death leaves her with many questions to which she as no answers.
Hopes death leaves a gaping whole in Hannah life and her heart, her family too are in ruins and struggling with there loss as hard as Hannah.

its not all sad and loss though there are moments that genuinely made me laugh out load, Karla does a great job of weaving humour into an otherwise incredibly sad storyline. the Humour comes from the very hot Julian, Hannah first love and ex boyfriend, he is the only one who is able to reach Hannah and slowly begins to heal the pain as he works his way back into her heart.

An absolutely heartbreaking, emotional and powerful book that I literally could not put down. There are many ups and downs and I would advise anybody to have a box full of tissues and lots of chocolate handy, but it is certainly well worth it.

I like this book a lot it was so sad and melancholy how a twin has to lives on after her sister took her own life and no one knew why?It just shows us that no matter how happy a person may look on the outside that they are dying on the inside. Families and friends should really talk to each other and don't keep the sad emotions bottled up inside. I would love to have learn more about how Hope met Billy and why she told him she did not have a family it be nice to get that background info. Also would love to have a sequel and learn where Hannah and Julian lives take them. I know all books don't need sequels but it always sad when the book is over and the characters stories are over, yet in my mind I can think a bit of how their lives continue after the ending. It would also be cool to see or read this book from someone's else's POV just not sure who the mom, dad,Doug,Julian or even Mike since he was sort of just a background character in the story we did not get into his head much about how he was trying to cope with Hope's death.

5 HEART BREAKING AND HEART STRENGTHENING STARS!!!
it's such an amazing read. Julian is a prince in the darkness, trying so hard to reach someone who doesnt want to be reached, she isn't even sure she cane be reached. this book asks the age old question, how long does it take to let go of your loved one, once they have passed away?
when is it time to move on and not feel guilty for that smile or laugh?(less)

i found this book by accident, i was looking for something to read and it popped up. i thought why not?
who knew it would open the door to so much emotion. the pain of letting go, the torment of moving on. a reminder that the darkest tunnel has an exit, there is always a way out. and a smile can hide a well of emotion, we would never know.
i love this book. one of my new faves for the yr. an emotional read, i will not forget and will recommend to every one.
a reminder just when i needed one, that sometimes no one can save you, you must save yourself, sometimes a book is more than a book, its one step to freedom.

If you are looking for insight into grief, this is a good book. I was lucky enough to be the editor on this novel and I can say that no matter how many times I've now read it, it always makes me cry. I lost my own sister several years back, and I found that this book was very cathartic in helping me deal with some of the issues I have avoided all this time. Hannah's struggle to find herself again is a struggle that anyone who has lost someone they love can relate too.

I do not recommend this book for kids or teens. There are some adult issues that I believe are inappropriate for that age group.

What I ultimately hope this book will do for the reader is help them face their grief and pain. The main character spends much of the book afraid to face aspects of her loss and it tore her apart. Don't runaway, face your issues, find truth, and show love.

This book is 99 cents right now! It was great don't miss the opportunity to read it! Wow! The emotion in this book had me from the first page. I cried, laughed, cringed and wanted to jump in and hug and shake Hannah. I read it in a day and tears were running down my face. I couldn't put it down.

Sad, sad, sad. I really liked the format of it being Hannah's journal. It made it personal and all the more heartbreaking. I think the author did a really good job on conveying the hurt/anger that can come from suicide and the constant questioning that the survivors go through. I'm not sure the answer to those questions was full answered but then again, I'm not sure that was the point.

Couldn't stop reading. I loved the style of writing, of Hannah writing to her sister, Hope. It's a very emotional book about a girl trying to get out of this hole she's suddenly buried in after the death of her sister. This book is about hope.

I really enjoyed this book. I picked it up free from Amazon a while ago. Hannah and Hope are twins, but when Hope takes her own life Hannah finds it hard to understand. Written like a diary, the story deals with grief, anger and trying to move forward. A very good read and very well written.

Wonderfully done

Wow , really speaks to what the survivors feel and go through. The sigma of dying by suicide is so bad in this world, this story gives you an understanding from both sides.
