Everlyn Fox has just started college, a new start out of her rough home life. What she doesn't know is that she's about to get twisted up into a world of gangs, illegal street racing, bloody brawling and her temperamental but caring English Professor, Oliver Wolfe. Will he be able to protect her from his arch rival Jason Martin who seems hell bend on revenge?
Anna Davis is a college student pursuing a degree in Creative Writing. Her first novel "I Hate You...I Think" was a big hit even with the many flaws. She has only gotten better with time. After the release of "Love Me Always" and "Heart of a Thief" she took time to improve her writing. She now currently has an upcoming novel "The Beautifully Damned" that will hit book stores Oct. 2015.
The story itself doesn't make any kind of sense. A 24 year old university professor that is a gang leader? A gang whose members seem to be members of the Mickey Mouse Club, but who take part in a gang fight that ends with 10 members of the gang death? WTF?
When it comes to the heroine more of the same. At one point she says that she was going to get her 1st degree black belt and then she says that the last time she practiced was when she was 7 years old? That doesn't make sense. The same goes for living in a crappy apartment her whole life, until she turns 18 and suddenly she has a trust fund? Don't let me get started about her spending time at night in a park controlled by another gang...Who would do that? Forget about the park being controlled by the other gang. What 19 year old girl goes alone to a dangerous park?
I enjoyed the gang itself. Jake, Tyler, Logan... were adorable but there were too many wtf moments and grammar and spelling mistakes which tipped the scale closer to the 2 stars than the 3.
First, the author needs a beta reader, I saw couple of errors (grammar/spelling). Usually I ignore this stuff since I’m a huge offender myself but it was easy to spot them. It was glaring in front of me. But other than that, this book is actually good. It’s like Gokusen/GTO. And I loved those titles. Action, humor and plenty of romance without the sickening insta-love. Oliver is a great guy, I liked his character, and I was greatly surprised about his hidden persona outside the university walls. He’s a cool guy. The girl, Ever, has spunk on her. She’s a tough chick without forcing that toughness on her. The personality just flows naturally on her. Them together was so nice. I liked how their relationship developed. It wasn’t that crazy rollercoaster ride that I’m used to when it comes to New Adult. I can’t explain it properly but it was right for me.
The ending you guys! The ending!! There’s got to be a sequel. There has to. Oh poor Oliver. :(
Okay I am so pissed about the ending. I can't get much information on the author to see if there is going to be a sequel which is making me more irritated. Anyways the whole story was good. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. BUT......only problem I had was there were soooooooooooooooooooooo many typos and grammar issues. It slows the pace of the reading and bugged me to death throughout the book. Sometimes when it is so bad I just stop reading the book but for some reason I couldn't put this one down. I hope there is sequel because the story ended with a HUGE cliffhanger!!!! Since the story was awesome I gave it a 4 star rating. If you can make it pass the typos and grammar/spelling issues then I would recommend.
OMG This book is really good!! This has got to be one of my favourite books this year! I absolutely loved it!
This is a gang related love story that will truly have you captivated as it is constantly evolving. You will instantly connect with Ever and fall in love with Oliver.
Not only will this book take us on an emotional journey but the twists and turns of this novel will keep your heart racing and begging for more!
Well done to the author on an amazing excellent debut novel!! The ending about killed me and I will anxiously be on the edge of my seat awaiting the sequel!!!
"I felt as if a sledge hammer hit me in the chest. I have been beaten with bats, chains, even brass knuckles, but nothing has ever hit me this hard."
This... was a horribly written story. By far one of the worst books I've ever read. I should have done myself a favor and put it down as soon as I picked it up, but being the dedicated reader that I am, I finished all 372 pages.
I really wish I hadn't.
First of all, our male lead, Oliver, is a twenty-four year old professor. I might have believed it under different circumstances, however; I did not find it plausible in the least. Which had nothing to do with his age. And since there was no substantial evidence that he was even qualified to work at a university, it came off as unrealistic. Oliver did not act like a professor, especially when he should have, meaning (at least to me), he wasn't one. Give me a reason to buy what your selling. If you can't do that then you're not a very good salesman.
The worst part of Oliver's persona is that he was involved in a gang. I can't imagine him still having a job while being a member. Someone is bound to be suspicious and you would think at least one person at the university would be smart enough to figure this out and report him. As for the employer, does he/she even look into a person's background before hiring? Having a past is one thing, but involvement in the present...? We're talking about a college campus, not Taco Bell.
Now a student involved in gang like activity? Sure, I could fathom that. A teacher? Bring on the skepticism! Especially when all those associated with said "gang" act like they're in an episode of Recess.
What angered me though was that he didn't even seem to care about teaching! There was no guilt in pursuing one of his students and it gave me the impression that it was all just a game to him. People actually do lose their jobs over situations such as this. And I would like to think that those who are responsible for someone else's education would take matters of professionalism seriously.
I love student/teacher relationship novels as much as the next person, but only when they're done correctly. This was a man taking advantage of his position and that is not okay. I hope I never meet a man like Oliver Wolfe because I am so ashamed of him and for him.
Oliver actually made Everlyn, the protagonist, cook dinner for him and his group of misfits, while knowing she was being held against her will. That's the literal definition of False Imprisonment. Oh, and Oliver blackmailed Everlyn into her servitude in the kitchen by suggesting that he would report her for seducing him. He used manipulation tactics to get what he wanted, informing her that even though it was a "he said, she said" situation her reputation would be tarnished and she could get get kicked out of school.
That is not to say Everlyn is any less controversial. Why, might you ask? Because she let herself get mixed up in it all and fell for a guy who was willing to hurt her for self gain. I don't care what happened during the middle or the end, or any "feasible" reasons behind such behavior. Beginnings do matter.
This relationship was toxic before it even started. I do hope Everlyn realizes this and walks away before she gets herself killed.
Anyhow, what really made me cringe was that this nineteen year old girl was acting all maternal to guys around the same age as her. This is not fucking Peter Pan and The Lost Boys! She was beyond naive and I read chapter after chapter of this. Then there's that little detail about her being able to kick a guy in the shin, or hit him in the chest, causing psychical pain, only for that to have meant she was a martial arts expert. I'm beyond the point of finding anything remotely practical about this story.
I'm going to quit while I can or you'll never hear the end of my long list of complaints. This must have been written by a child and I do pray to never read anything half as bad as this.
I give this 1 star (negative one if I could) and I do not recommend this book to anyone, ever. The relationship between Oliver and Everlyn was not about love, but about abuse. Which upset me deeply, so fair warning to all future readers.
This book is one of the most breathtaking pieces of literature I believed I've ever read. The story grabs you and holds you until the last word on the last page, the characters are well rounded and likable, and the plot is a gift from god.
I wouldn't be surprised if this book ended up on the best sellers list in a few weeks, or even a few days.
Thank you Anna Davis. You have given us more then just a book, you have given us meaning and inspiration.
SERIOUSLY WITH THAT ENDING?!? There better be a sequel!! A+ book, though the grammatical errors aggregated me a little. I loved loved loved Evers relationship with the boys. It was, for me, like I couldn't pick which boy I thought she was more adorable with ( in a platonic way, Oliver all the way)!
Right from page one I was sucked in, I liked Oliver from page one he's that bada** bad boy you can't help but love, "it's not illegal, it's unethical, and like I said before if no one knows there isn't a problem." Oliver might be a tad bit protective of Everlyn, "you're right he is a freak. I don't want him near you." Everlyn, good grief that girl kills me, "yeah, you're my hot professor, who is bi-polar and likes to fist fight people. With a psychopath from a rival gang who wants to beat your face in and you won't let me know why you decided to drag me into your problems. Oh and you're an evil little monster. Yeah, your right not normal at all." Oliver is such a cocky a** at times, "as much as I enjoy standing here having you check me out we should be going. So close your mouth and go get dressed." Didn't like the ending freakin' cliffhanger why are there always cliffhangers with books now and days! But I can't wait for the next installment.
WTH??? What a major cliffhanger!!! Well...first let me just say that a beta reader is seriously needed here...even though english is not my native language it was obvious how many spelling/ grammar mistakes tere were in the book. It kind of distracted me from the story a little...towards the end the grammar/spelling mistakes got better and I was really involved with the story...is there a second book??? I'm anxious to know what happens after this ending... It was a good story...it needs some changes, corrections and all, but overall it was a good read!
I think I'm in love with this story!!!! It's just so good!!! I love all the boys. Oliver, Jake, Logan, Jet, Tyler and Alex. They are bad boys with very good heart. I like Ever so much. She is really a smart ass. I keep laughing when she scolds the boys. It's really a funny read. I'm shock with the epilogue. Oliver will be so upset if he heard Ever forgets all of them. I hopr the sequel will be out in a few months. This novel is just so good...
For some reason I really liked this book, there is poor spelling, bad grammar and the plot is kind of ridiculous ( Oliver is a college professor/gang leader, yeah ok...). Despite all this I got completely sucked in by the story and went in search of the sequel. The sequel is called "Love me always" and you can find it on wattpad.
Oh wow, the ending had me very angry, if there is a part 2, it better hurry up and get released, really liked the story, way to many typo's and grammar errors, though, need to proof read
DNF at 8%. I tried, I honestly did. I could not get past all of the glaring grammar issues, lack of sentence structure, and lack of well-any writing skills. I thought the whole gang storyline would switch up the basic forbidden love of a student-teacher romance, but I honestly could not fucking care about the characters. I felt no chemistry between them and it all it came off as juvenile.
What I thought: I’ve started this book because I was finding this story quite interesting, but it happened not to be as interesting as I was expected it to be! First of all, I would like to mention that this book needs a beta-reader ASAP! The mistakes are so evident sometimes that I just couldn’t continue anymore! Please correct the mistakes! Even though English is not my first language I was able to spot the mistakes easily! I know it is hard, but at least ask someone! The characters: I’ve liked them, not as much I was expecting to, but they were nice. Oliver is true to his heart, sincere and always making fun, but loyal and caring. I did not liked his easiness of saying ‘I love you’s since he is a guy and a though one, moreover a gang leader. But it was nice to see him getting annoyed by the little thing that he constantly found himself drawn to. Everlyn, shortly Ever, is a nice girl. Actually she’s super strong when she wants to and she can run her mouth like a sailor sometimes, but she is agreeable and cute. I’ve liked her. The other characters have a nice way of completing the story and that’s actually sweet and nice! What I did not like was the action. Ever tends to be the target of all the bad things. She is constantly hurt physically or emotionally, that at some point I just couldn’t take it anymore. Without this, the book is quite nice to be read on a sunny afternoon when you don’t have anything else to do. I believe that the second book will be better and the action won’t finish so abruptly! It simply left my mouth hanging and I couldn’t do anything about it! Where is the next one? You cannot do this to me! About the book: Everything is about Everlyn, a nice young adult; she’s nineteen and in her first year of college. She is smart and living on her own. Her father died when she was young and her mother found her refugee in a lot of alcoholic drinks. She left home and found herself a nice apartment where she is living on her own because her best friend – Kimmy – got a scholarship that lets her stay in the dorms. She was just dancing in a club, when some guy starts to dance with her. Their connection is so strong and abrupt that she almost does not want to leave the club before she registers his name: Oliver. The second day and the day of her first classes, she is at the coffee shop ordering when a nice guy almost fells right beside her. She is helping him and they automatically feel like they saw each other somewhere but couldn’t remember where. When she is leaving and starting to head to the class, the rain starts and her converses are really slippery, so she fells when she enters the hallway that leads to her class. The only one who sees her is the guy that almost fell at the coffee shop. And – her teacher, above everything else! They meet again at the club; they start to fell for each other, sort of, and from here on everything becomes a ride against the clock! I don’t know why I’ve felt this way, but I definitely felt the rush in the words. I hope this book gets the mistakes corrected and the second book comes out sooner!
This is another book I can add to my growing list of "Were We Reading The Same Book?!" How could anyone give this a fair rating? The book was filled with very poor grammar and more spelling errors than I've ever seen in a published book!
It was totally implausible. Not only was it hard to believe Oliver was an English professor, but there was NO way he was also a gang leader! He was about as hard as a bag of feathers. And he was a 24 year old man that turned heads everywhere he went... Also a virgin? Nope. Not buying it.
And how did she just happen to have a trust fund when her family lived in squalor? I call shenanigans. Not to mention, she only seemed to go to Art History class and English... I never went to college, so I guess I don't know. But I THOUGHT they usually had more classes in a semester than two.
Also, thanks for the Mary Sue and the Marty Stu. Haven't read such an "irresistible" couple since Fifty Shades. Newsflash, no one attracts the attention of EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THE OPPOSITE SEX.
And finally, can this author please learn "show, don't tell" as soon as possible? I'm giving this book 1.5 stars only because I did finish it. It was awful, but I will try and get through the sequel just to find out what happens.
I loved this story- I love Ever, she is so sassy. But there were a lot of times that she was so naive sometimes. Well, both of them actually. I mean- he's 24 and in a gang-- some stuff just wasn't that realistic to me. And I don't know where to start with Oliver and the boys!! I totally want to go hang out with them. They are all great guys and I enjoyed how Ever and friends were able to form their separate relationships. I loved the first dinner together. And the wooden spoon. The only thing that is the biggest downfall here- I paid $8 bucks for this book. I expected it to be the best freakin thing ever. And it was story wise, but holy smokes batman... The grammatical errors!!!! Saw, it is saw not SEEN. Holy shit!! Usually when a book is good, I really don't get bothered by this stuff but it really bugged me. However, I loved it! And of course had to read the next one. Just really wasn't happy about the price.
For me reading is something that you let yourself out of the true world.. Before i started reading books i always browse the reviews of others this books have some bad comments on spelling and gramars and story doesnt really getalong with real life.. But for me,this book is good.. I gave a 3 stars because of the gramatic and spelling errors but the story itself is just fine-- not having more of a love story but i like the brother-sisterhood realationship. Hell, i would kill for my friends.. so yeah, ill be reading the next book..
I really really enjoyed this story! Yes there were some mistakes throughout the story, but that's easily rectified and could have just been the kindle version I received. Loved the characters Hate the cliffhangar! Don't want to have to wait for the next book, but can't wait to see how it all turns out!
What I was expecting - an exciting Fight Club meets Fast and Furious.
What I got - a totally unbelieveable storyline that could have been written by a school kid (and that's without even getting started on the shocking grammar, punctuation etc).
Mistakes galore, to the point of being almost insulting to the reader. Not even a friend was available to proof read this? In addition to the appalling amount of mistakes, the plot goes from being a normal, boy meets girl romance, to one that seems downright ridiculous, in no time flat.
Ok so this book was good....... The price I too much for it tho. There are a lot of errors that I noticed. I suck at grammar an spelling so that must e saying something. I'm not happy about the 10 price tag.
It is a great concept and storyline. Looking forward to the 2n book
Seriously. I just couldn't believe how immature the characters where. This book had potential, but I think due to very poor editing I just couldn't enjoy anything about it.
