For someone that's not really into paranormal, I actually enjoyed this story!! Sophie Rhodes is in desparate need of a job and gets hired by Dr. Callahan (aka Cal) as a receptionist for his optometry office. Sophie's best friend is a ghost named Marmaduke (Marmi for short)> Marmi is a British bloke from a hundred years ago or so and he definitely is a riot as he offers Sophie advice. Dr. Callahan has his own ghost, MoonFlower, and she is a very jealous ghost - any female that Cal comes into contact with, sends MoonFlower into a tizzy. When she realizes that Sophie and Cal are attracted to each other, things start to get really interesting.
It was quite amusing to see how many people Sophie and Cal encounter throughout the book that can see Marmi and MoonFlower and together they try to figure out why MoonFlower has such an obsessive hold on Cal.
There's a book 2 in the series, and at some point, I'll probably continue on with it!
I was expecting Keep Me Ghosted to be a fun romp of a read...I was disappointed by that. It was fun sometimes, but it was mostly bogged down by a weirdly paced plot. Some parts were really slow...the first 73%, I wasn't sure if anything was ever going to really happen. But after that point, it seemed like everything just dropped out of the sky-- the pacing went from really slow to extremely fast all at once.
Just do me a favor-- read the description. I was led to believe that Sophie was absolutely surrounded by ghosts, and that her and Dr. Callahan were going to have fab chemistry. Both were extreme exaggerations. Sophie only has one ghost around-- her friend Marmaduke. And while he was great, I was expecting more. I did like him as a character, though. He added a certain level of sarcasticness. I laughed at several of his one-liners. But on to the chemistry-- I really wasn't feeling it.
Sophie of herself didn't really inspire me. She wasn't a bad character, but she wasn't fantastic or anything. I think that the author tried too hard to make her characters quirky. Sophie has a pet flying squirrel and a one-eyed cat, and Cal is one of the only doctor's in his chosen field: vision therapy. I wasn't emotionally invested in them at all, I'm sad to say.
The whole story seemed rushed, to tell you the truth. Not well planned out or executed. Keep Me Ghosted just didn't turn out the way that I hoped it would.
O forse perchè vede i fantasmi?
Fun! Exciting! Great plot and subplots with this cozy. The primary characters are fun and well developed as are many of the secondary characters. The flow of the story was smooth making this a fast and good read.
Sophie's been dumped and she's broke, so she could really use the job she's interviewing for at Dr. Callahan's optometry office. It comes with some perks, namely a sexy boss, but there's also the downside of a ghost haunting the place, who wants nothing more than to see Sophie gone.
This story is fun from start to finish. Sophie is a hoot and Dr. Callahan is completely adorable. I love that they are both hopeless in their own ways, for example Sophie constantly talking to her pets as though they'll answer and Dr. Callahan essentially bluffing his way through the business side of his optometry office. But together they are perfect, making up for each others' inadequacies and simply being totally cute together - if only they can communicate how they feel to each other and stop all the ghosts from getting in the way!
This is a paranormal mystery romance, so throughout Sophie and Cal's blossoming relationship, they are also attempting to uncover the mystery behind the ghost in the office who is becoming increasingly violent and threatening to destroy Dr. Callahan's practice. This all with a wonderful dose of humor thrown in, most of all courtesy of Sophie's British-ghost-friend Marmaduke and their spirit seeing support group.
The only thing that could have made this novel better for me would have been a little more spice to the romance. It may, however, heat up in later novels of the series, but, by the same token, I suspect that other readers may prefer the sweeter flavor of Sophie and Cal's relationship.
This is a funny and sweet paranormal romance that I believe most fans of light romantic comedies will enjoy. Think Size 12 Is Not Fat by Meg Cabot, BUT WITH GHOSTS.
I 'read' the Audiobook, so what about the Narrator?
Nan McNamara was a great narrator for this audiobook. She really captured Sophie, from her quirkiness to her humor, not to mention her swooning around Dr. Callahan. She also succeeded in reading the other characters in a way that set them apart and made them recognizable, without having them sound forced. This was really enjoyable to listen to.
Wow!! I loved the authors Barbara Marr series and even though this book sounded very different I thought I would give it ago (even if it was in the chick lit and romance category, definitely not my normal choice. So glad I did because I really enjoyed it and it is so much more than a romantic comedy. I loved the characters, especially Marmaduke the ghost and thought they worked well together and made for a very likeable team or should I same threesome. The book contains ghosts, witch craft, mystery and romance but is so much more than that and all of it cleverly crafted together to give you a fun and entertaining story. This is not your normal cozy mystery and even the place of employment (an eye doctors office- eye therapy) was an unusual and unique setting, even the ghost support group was fun. Definitely a series to keep an eye out for and one I will be getting when it comes to audible. Sophie sees ghosts, well one in particular an Englishman called Marmaduke, so working in an optometrist seems the perfect to work, well at least it will pay the bills. The only problem is Dr Callahan can't keep his receptionist for longer than a few hours because he too has his own ghost scaring every one of them away. Can Sophie stick it out and find out what is troubling the ghost? Dr Cal is very easy on the eyes and Sophie finds herself fighting her attraction to him, every time she starts to get close his ghost throws a fit and things in the room start to fly. Is she jealous? Or is there more going on than meets the eye? To find out Sophie will have to work out who the ghost is and why she has attached herself to Dr Cal and hopefully before she sees off all his patients. And what about the young man that is seen hanging around the building? Is he connected or just trying to make some money by stealing equipment? Sophie and Cal attended a ghost help group but even that proves to be very unhelpful with calming the ghost down. What ever they are going to do they had better do it soon, otherwise Sophie might just lose more than a few patient's. I really like the narrator and think she does a good job bringing the characters to life, even the dead ones.
Ever since she was a girl, Sophie has been able to see ghosts. Currently, her bff is a proper and stuffy English gent named Marmaduke Dodsworth. In desperate need of a job, Sophie applies at the office of optometrist Dr Callahan. Little does she know, he's equally desperate for the help. It seems the good doctor also has a ghost, but his is a malicious, jealous entity who calls herself Moonflower. He hires Sophie on the spot, and she sets about setting his office to rights.
It doesn't take Sophie long to find out why Dr Callahan is losing patients (and patience!). Moonflower keeps scaring off any females that come in, and she tries her best to scare Sophie away, too. However, when a medium comes to the office, she offers her assistance. Sophie finds herself needing that assistance sooner than she'd thought, when Moonflower goes on a rampage that endangers Marmaduke's afterlife.
Complicating matters is the fact that Sophie can't help but be attracted to Dr Callahan, but she vows not to act on it. That is easier said than done when he's so handsome and nice and smells so wonderful. But, is Moonflower the only one standing in the way of true romance?
I really enjoyed this book. Sophie was an engaging heroine, Marmi was a hoot, Cal was a dream, and even Moonflower ended up being a "villain" you could sympathize with.
Fun story, and will be looking for more in the series.
This was an entertaining read about Sophie meeting Cal when she applied for a receptionist position at his optometry business. They both had a ghost hanging around and each could see and talk to their ghost. Cal’s ghost was very jealous of any female, no matter what the age so it was difficult for Cal in his business, etc. and the ghost ran off his other receptionists. The antics everyone got into was hair-raising at times. Enjoyable read.
I made my New Year’s resolution to read more books that I already own. This was in my TBR folder. I can only assume that it was a freebie. Most of the kindle freebies have been garbage. This is a notable exception. It was good. Yes, Sophie annoyed me at first but she improved as a character. The story was pretty good too. For a Kindle freebie it was great. For a regular book it was good.
I really enjoyed this light hearted romance about two people who had something in common. They both had ghosts attached to them. Very sweet story and I recommend this book.
mischievous ghosts and angry ghosts, Sophie just can't win. After being dumped, by her boyfriend Sophie takes a job as a receptionist in an office with a angry ghost.
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
AudioBook Review: Stars: Overall 4 Narration 5 Story 3 When an audiobook starts with the heroine complaining about her companion Marmaduke, and you aren’t 100% sure that said companion is human or dog, it’s a winner. And, for the unaware, Marmaduke is former human, now ghostly companion of the heroine in this story, Sophie.
And Sophie is having a rather trying time of things. She is desperately seeking employment, and the interview for the receptionist’s position at the doctor’s office is not going as expected, in fact, his behavior is so strange she should be leaving as she questions his sanity and her safety.
Yet, all is not so simple: Sophie desperately needs a job, and the doctor desperately needs a receptionist that will work for longer than a few days. And, it isn’t as if Sophie is scared off by the ghosts, having Marmaduke in her life (a man who is certainly British and more than a touch stuffy) has given her a certain tolerance. Dr. Callahan just feels rather gobsmacked and unable to contend with a declining practice, employee issues, ghosts and Sophie’s rather direct manner.
I enjoyed the characters and their light and tentative steps to a romance. There were several giggle out loud moments, and both humans and ghosts have multiple quirks and unusual additions to their characterizations: at times I did feel the story pacing was sacrificed for yet another quirk or unusual element, even though many were funny and did give some depth.
The narration for this story is provided by Nan McNamara, and her delivery is perfectly suited to the story. She manages to give the readers a ‘wink and a nod’ in the most ridiculous moments, and I kept thinking that her narration felt appropriate for the story. Imagine acting out an I Love Lucy episode to someone who was unfamiliar with that comedy and you are close to McNamara’s approach to this book. In fact, the book does feel just like those old comedies: sweet, a touch over the top, and wholly entertaining. While the mystery doesn’t really enter until late, and from there the pace is fast and furious, the story is a fun respite for an afternoon’s break and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I received an AudioBook copy of the title from the author via AudioBook Jukebox. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
A delightful listen. While at first blush it seems a fluffy chick-lit, there is a really engaging story here! I really liked all the characters. They were fun and quirky, my favorite sort!
Sophie is a delight, she is the sort of character that your like immediately. Her interactions with her ghost Marmaduke is fascinating. It is an interesting dynamic that flows throughout the books.
Cal is easy to like, even when he has a moment where you think the worst of him. I enjoyed their interactions and the slow build to romance. This is one of those times when the relationship builds even though they have an instant connection.
The story is an enjoyable read but not a lot of action. The pace is steady and the lack of action doesn't take away for the story. It is more of a sweet read with a touch of drama. Sometimes I like a quick read that isn't overly taxing.
It is all a single narrative, only Sophie's POV. This is not a problem, but it does limit how a reader views events. I will say this style suited the story very well.
No steam here. It is a nice romance that doesn't get smexy. A few sweet kisses is as hot as it gets.
I listened to the audiobooks and the narrator Nan McNamara is lovely. She has a nice tone and a quick pace. I love that she has clear concise voices, this is important because there are many time when dialogue is delivered character to character. I never had a doubt who was speaking. She is very well suited to the story.
According to Goodreads this is the first book in a series, I hope we hear more from this group. I am very interested in the support group. They could be fodder for many books to come.
Disclosure - I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.
This was a light and easy read that flew by because the characters were fun and made me want to find out about them. The story was simple and yet still pulled me in with a mystery and ghosts who refused to leave. I read this in the course of a few hours and felt satisfied at the end that everything was as it should be. The characters were well defined and there was a feeling of seriousness but it had a light touch with a nice romance, even if it happened a bit quickly. Things progressed at a rate that was easy to follow.
Sophie has been looking for job and she has a friend who keeps making things more difficult for her, this friend just happens to be a ghost and her best friend. When she goes to her latest interview the interviewer has a similar friend who does not seem inclined to share him, even with an employee. There is something not quite right about the ghost that has attached itself to Cal, Sophie's new boss, and she starts to look into it as things start to escalate in the office. Falling for your boss is bad but falling for your boss when he has a psycho ghost is even worse and she needs to find a way to put her to rest before she causes serious harm to someone.
I liked the fact that I there were some serious moments but that there were also moments that gave me a chuckle here and there. Sophie's ghost friend Marmaduke was a treasure, both a good friend and protector who just wanted Sophie to be happy. You get some light romance, a bit of paranormal activity, some ghostly angst, and mystery. Very enjoyable and most would probably find it so.
I have read several of Ms. Cantwell’s books, the Barbara Marr Murder Mystery series is one of my favorites. When I heard she was writing a ghost story I was pleased to see her branching out into the paranormal; one of my favorite genres. She has an easy-going style to her writing that makes it a pleasure to read.
I dearly loved Marmaduke. He is such an English gentleman, and I think the author pulled off his verbose English dialect quite well. I found Sophie and Marmaduke’s dialogue thoroughly entertaining and I loved their relationship. I was glad to learn he is sticking around for a few more books. The chemistry between the reserved Dr. Callahan and Sophie was charming and natural. The story setting and characters are unique which set up the book to be an interesting and educational read. As with all of Ms. Cantwell’s writing there is a mystery to unravel with unexpected twists in the plot. The humor flows well and is not over-the-top or slapstick. I was also pleased that Sophie is a fully-fledged character in her own right; she is not a rewritten Barbara Marr, but I like her just as well. This is a light, fun, quick read that leaves you feeling satisfied in the end.
I think this book will teach us all to stay away from internet magic spells. I found no significant issues with editing or formatting.

A novel suitable for you who like simple, direct and fun stories. Sophie is independent, live alone ... Oops! I told she lives alone? Not so much. Sophie actually has a little different talent: she sees and talks to ghosts. And there's one in particular, a British who dresses like a gentleman of 20's, loves to talk tough (a lot!) And not leave her alone.
Marmaduke is a kind! His living way, everything must to be right, almost drives Sophie's crazy, but actually, he is a great company and he's over protector to her.
Desperately in need of money, Sophie responds to the announcement of a doctor who needs a secretary. Big problem: the doctor has his own ghost. An Indian woman who dies of jealousy of all secretaries and patients that appear in the office, and finds a way to get them out of there screaming. But as Sophie has a similar problem, it did not scare her.
Only a bigger problem arises: Moonflower, the other ghost, not appeared on her own, but was conjured by witchcraft, and now, more than scare patients, she is becoming stronger and may end up hurting someone .. .
The book is awesome. The characters are cute and Marmaduke, after you get used to the way he talks, is of those you would like to have for yourself. Not to mention that Dr. Callahan is HOT ...
The pace of the story is great. And seems it is a series. I think Marmaduke and Sophie still have many adventures ahead.
I'm not quite sure what exactly it is about this story, but I really, really, really enjoyed it. (You see that? Three reallys)
Firstly, I love the story. It's about this gal, Sophie, who has a ghostly friend, Marmaduke. She finds a job at this optometry practice and finds out her boss has a ghostly friend of his own. There's a bit of mystery involved and a support group of individuals who have 'ghostly friends.' Overall, it's a fun story. A bit of the paranormal, a bit of mystery, a bit of romance.
Secondly, I love Sophie. I love Marmaduke. I love their semi-complicated and yet very simple relationship. I think Sophi is a great character and Ms. Cantwell portrays her very well. Along with Marmaduke. Together, they're they best of friends and love reading about them.
The story flows nicely. It doesn't lag nor does it skip ahead.
While I wasn't aware that this would be a series when I picked this book read, I am so glad it is. I don't think I'll get enough of Sophie and Marmi and I'm so excited for book two!
I love paranormal stories and after reading a lot about vampires and werewolves it was nice to take a break and read about ghosts and mediums.
Cantwell did a wonderful job with this story and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, paranormal romance pick without all the lust that some romances have.
I'm a fan Ms. Cantwell and absolutely love her Barbara Marr series so I was excited to read this book. What a treat! KEEP ME GHOSTED is a delightful ghost story. Sophie is desperate for a job so when she is hired by Dr. Callahan, an Developmental Optometry & Vision Therapy doctor, she is thrilled. It seemed like a great fit until she finds out that Cal has an unhappy ghost shadowing him. Moonflower has attached herself to the good doctor and doesn't like other women. Ghosts don't bother Sophie because her best friend is Marmaduke Dodsworth, a British ghost who is hilarious. I loved his British sayings. Things seem perfect, that is, until a jealous Moonflower wreaks havoc in the office scaring away the patients.
If you love ghost stories, you'll not go wrong with this one. This book is such an entertaining read. The author has a great flair for storytelling, letting the reader understand and feel the character's emotions. I couldn't stop laughing while I read this story. Sophie and Cal were adorable, but for me, it was Marmi who stole the spotlight. I want more of this British ghost and can't wait to see what adventures await in the next book! If you're looking to escape everything for a bit, rush out and buy this book. You won't be disappointed. Highly Recommended.
