Karli Rush was born in the heart of Cherokee Nation and lives in its capital. Her Native American heritage holds sway over her writing in many ways. She has the patience of a brain surgeon operating under fire in a war zone. You can chalk that up to her being the mother of an autistic kiddo. With the passion of a starving artist, she writes. The obsession to tell her tales have led her to write novels in the worlds of Dark Paranormal Romance, Dystopian, and Vampires. She walks in two worlds, one grounds her and the other frees her imagination.

Karli Rush you did it again! This book is captivating from the start, and Karli did an excellent job of painting a stunning visual image of the other realm. First off, I am not a fan of dyostapin books. But holy WOW!! This one had me hooked from the beginning. I mean how would you feel to be happy one moment, then all of a sudden have everything you know turned totally upside down. Plus have a Reaper from the nether world basically fall for you. Don't hesitate, grab your copy as soon as you can!!

The Pine Needles story as a reader I would translate the word Adrenalin packed, in all the languages of the world, so everyone would discover this story. It is a dystopian science-fiction, romance and mystery ménage filled with suspense, conflict and adventure.

The author has taken the elements of three or more genres and created a story that stimulates the mind, satisfies the appetite and enthralls the soul.

It is a conflict of light and dark, good and evil, yet in it set in bewitching style of storytelling plot and an Adrenalin zone. This is beyond paranormal, supernormal, this is a dystopian theme with a ménage of genres blending in together to create an unforgettable story.

A young couple soul mates are engaged to be married and a catastrophic event occurs, and they are torn apart. By unseen circumstances, as if a veil came down between the two. One fights to rescue the other. Another has to survive in the new realm she trapped in. She has to defend herself, to not become the main course or to be taken as a slave by a handsome alien rogue. The thread of fear, defiance and independence traits and incidents runs throughout the plot. The excitement of the unknown raised this reader's blood pressure waiting for the next action to happen.

The three main characters, Rayden, Selene and Sirius were compelling to the reader, as they each have their unique personality and wit. They are strong, determined and suborn. No obstacle is too much for them to conquer. She has two suitors, one in the earthly plane and the deadly warrior in the red planet plane. The author has added in her unique vivid descriptions and cultural tone to the story.

This enriches the story so much more. This reader is a romantic at heart. So I chose a selection of the story to display the theme of the romantic setting.

And another paragraph for the Dystopian tone. The dystopian part of the genre was action packed and adventurous, women to men readers would enjoy reading this tale, as it blends ideals alluring to both sexes. Highly recommend this ménage of adventurous out of world surreal reading, you will not be disappointed.

In the author's words;

"The touch of his fingers appraising my golden face stills my rigid nerves as he orders,“Stand.” As I rise to my feet he leans over with a compelling hand caressing the side of my neck until his thumb locates my animated pulse he asks, “Do you fear me now, Selene?”

I answer him before I take my next breath, “Yes.” The quivering tone endorses my one simple, yet truthful word.

His massive hand catches my chin tilting my downcast eyes to his own.

“Do not, Selene.”

Is he a man or beast, I begin to question as I fall into his exiling gaze, edging his mouth closer to mine I do something that shocks even myself.

Rising up to meet his mouth, I part my lips foretasting his lips on mine. Instead his head redirects and begins nuzzling the crook of my neck, breathing deeply in my scent. He lingers next to my ear and whispers. “I will protect you.” His other hand snares my hips urging me to press myself against him."

This paragraph from Pine Needles is for the science-fiction dystopian fan;

In the author's words:

“He and many of the other warlords are guarding the area. Selene, your ability to perceive with your eyes is an armament for your survival now. Our realm drifts inconsistently from one to another. In time we will return to the realm of Narvar. On this golden desert planet there is a beast known as the Yatora. Its body is armored in various layers from its thick spine over its head and down to his gaping mouth of jagged sharp teeth.

The tail is that of a keen whipping blade and the claws are massive enough to crush a skull.

It is the deadliest creature I have faced. It is dangerous because it knows how to use its weapons and defenses. You must assimilate the same with yours, for your survival here."

Readers, in this story, there is excitement, suspense, conflict, it is written for both genres, female and male. The character Selene becomes lost in a creative vivid world of aliens and survival, against primitive beasts, and other unseen enemies. She has to fight to choose what is right and possibly go against her moral consciousness to live and let go her former existence. The story continues with a hint of romance and anguish of losing another, not once, but twice.

Rayden and Selene are a typical couple, in love, working, living day to day. Until THE day, the day it all changed. A disruption, an invasion, wraith like warriors, killing, kidnapping and destroying. Selene is taken with a young girl named Tiffany, who Selene vows to protect. Selene has no idea what happened to Rayden, but she has to worry about herself in this strange new world. An alternate dimension that exists in our world, yet is still outside of it, separated by a veil. To Selene's horror, she soon realizes what her captors have planned for their prisoners/slaves. Lucky for Selene, the leader of the warriors, Sirius, second only to the queen, has taken a liking to her. On a trip above ground, Selene is severely injured, it is then that she truly finds out what these alien creatures are all about. With an elderly slave named Nevaeh giving her advice, and caring for her, Selene may learn to survive, and even embrace her new life. Then the unthinkable happens, she sees someone she assumed was dead and has to make a decision, stay with Sirius, or rescue someone from her past and possibly cause the death of Sirius. "You do not see... this will cause war, a war between the horde of warlords and Sirius. They will sense this as an unallowable weakness, a weakness which will fall upon Sirius. You, Selene, belong to him. And you are his whether you believe me or not, but they will destroy him because of your actions. " *Nevaeh* This was such an original story, I have never read anything like it. The thin veil between our worlds, the wonderful descriptions of the warriors and the creatures of their world, the scenery and the plot, are all so original. I loved the characters, Selene is strong yet vulnerable, Tiffany is trusting, Rayden is loyal, Sirius is protective, Nevaeh is resigned, and the queen is a royal bi***! I totally enjoyed the whole world that the author created almost as much as I enjoyed the characters and the premise that an alien world exists within our own, unknown, unseen, it's a creepy concept. If you enjoy romance, sci-fi, action, etc. You will surely enjoy this book. I would consider this to be in the New Adult catagory.

Pine Needles (The Veil Realm Series, #1).
by Karli Rush
Rayden and Selene are thrust into a World none had ever expected. Their tiny part of the planet is changed forever starting with ravaging earthquakes, arrows flying through the air hitting and killing many. Selene and Rayden must fight to survive this new world or die trying. Selene is captured after a long exhausting run just as she is about to jump to her death she is grabbed by one of them. He now will make her his or she will be dinner. She must choice Life or Death and she must life with the choice she makes as devastating as it will be.

Wow! Talk about an emotional roller-coaster , all over the place emotions. So intense, I was holding my breathe and had to unwilling put the book down to walk around and breathe quite a few times, also to get my emotions in check. Only A Masterful Writer can elicit these emotions from ones readers.
Not a techno Sci/Fi yet so much more. My favorite quote in this book " Your Breast are not sweet"!

This Book 1 of the Veil Realm Series is a Major Hit. If you have not read Karli Rush's Books yet I urge you to start with this one. You will not be disappointed. This book is unlike her others as not so much on the romance as it is about, What would you do to stay alive? Even after reading I am going over my favorite part(s) as I could not just choice one. This book stays with the reader long after reading.
I Highly Recommend This Book!

Action-packed and very well written! Do yourself a favor and read this book!

When I opened this book, I hadn't known what to expect...but, near the end, I found myself at a complete one-eighty from what I had first expected. That in and of itself is a good thing!

What makes this novel so unforgettable? If I had to pick one thing it would be Karli’s writing. Her depiction of Selene’s voice is utterly captivating.

This novel has a bit of everything. I wouldn’t necessarily describe it solely as a dystopian novel. There is a strong love story as well as a supernatural twist. All of my favorites wrapped up into one breathtaking debut.

Pine Needles has all the elements that make a novel, a great novel. Superb writing, realistic and dimensional characters, an intense story and a gorgeous cover. The cover doesn’t really make the novel a great one, but I had to throw that one in there.

In short: This was Awesome. You need to read it when it’s released!

Dystopia is not a genre that immediately attracts me. However, within the first chapter of this book, I was hooked! How can you not be immersed into a story when you have no idea where the plot is going to lead you next? The characters are well-developed, likeable and strong which is an absolute necessity for me in order to appreciate a story. But I must say, what I loved most about this book is the fluidity of Karli Rush's writing. We are not treated like ignorant readers, using the simplest of vocabulary to make sure we can follow. Ms. Rush tickles our synapses with almost a poetic narrative that appeals to my senses. The story is absolutely enthralling, with plot twists that do not make you scream WTF? but have you pausing with an "Ohhhhh..." reaction. Intense and envigorating, Pine Needles is defintely a must-read!

I really enjoyed this book. The action was fast paced. The world building was excellent. The heartache was real and the choices made make sense even with the pain. Selene and Sirius are intriguing characters that need more exploration. I am looking forward to more of this series.

What a crazy whirlwind of a story! Fate has a way of determining what life you will have, no matter what world you live in. But when two worlds or realms collide, what happens next, is utterly crazy. Monsters are not monsters, but they are. Learning a new way of life and finding out you could be the change --this book sucks you in and doesn't spit you out until the end. Then you are just sitting there with your jaw falling open. I have a feeling we'll be hearing a lot more from these characters.

Decided to give this a read because I seem to LOVE everything Karli Rush writes. I'm not usually a Sci-Fi or Dystopian fan... but like I said, so far anything this author writes I absolutely LOVE.

Well again, I was taken back. This book starts with a seemingly normal day for everyone in this small town until an earthquake rips it half, then literally cuts off one part of the city with a veil. People are cut off from each other by this glass like veil while they become hunted by something they've never seen.

Selene is also finally caught but what she endures and how she survives is remarkable. You start to think how would you survive, what would you do to ensure it?

The imagination that went into creating something unlike anything I've ever seen, heard of or read was crazy. I was immediately drawn into this story feeling my heart thudding along with each characters. The author, Karli Rush, takes you on a fantastic ride through a world with creatures that will mortify and enthrall you. Her descriptions you can picture in your mind while you read and the characters that you may despise you learn to love, each being important and having incredible depth. I'm looking forward to part two and will be searching for more books by this author because like I said before I seem to LOVE everything she writes! :)

I really debated on my rating for this book, once I got past the fact that the blurb really was completely different than the book it was good. This was more about Selene being in a new world and Rayden was hardly in the book. When Selene is taken she doesn't once mention or think about him. She didn't worry about home, she was just okay I am here now what. The plot was different and interesting.

In the middle of the book, it felt like the author pulled out a thesaurus and looked up word to use. Then we were fine again and the blurb actually started to make sense towards the end of the story.

I am intrigued enough to conitnue the series but was frustrated with aspects of this book.

I was given this book from the author as a gift. Very interesting read. Selene is a very strong character, I liked how she fought and tried to help Tiffany survive in the strange new realm. I like how Sirius is always there to protect Selene and fell in love with her so fast. The story is fast paced and interesting. The author seems to like her Thesaurus alot and I found it amusing on how she used it so wisely. Very enjoyable read!!!

This story is well written but I simply could not get pulled into the book!
The main female protagonist simply reacts to situations in a manner that I could not emphasize with!
The start of the book had me hooked.
Do not however take my word! Read the book yourself. As a reader I am always subjective and her writing is amazing.
