Albany Boys #1

Never Goodbye

Rate this book
If you had one chance to be with your soul mate, would you fight for it?

Sometimes the hardest fight isn't finding love, sometimes its fighting against the ticking clock of your life.

Stalked by the shadow of a foreboding disease, seventeen year old, Harper Kennedy finds herself starting a new life in Albany Missouri. With a ticking time bomb, a wall of quotes, a shell of a father and a brother who has no one else, Harper tries to get life in order for those she may be leaving behind.
But fate is cruel when it delivers temptation in the form of
Vaun Campbell into her life; Vaun who is kind and sweet and completely out of her league on so many levels. How can Harper find love only to have it ripped away so soon? How can she put Vaun, who has faced more than his own fair share of loss and grief in the past, through all that again?
…How can she not?
Vaun Campbell has been to hell and back again after losing his mother. He has seen the way disease destroys the ones he loves…has seen them fade before his eyes. He never thought he’d find someone to bring the sunshine back to his life until he laid eyes on Harper; the graceful girl he watched float across the dance floor, who stole a little piece of his heart forever.
So Harper must fight for more than just her life, she must fight for her little brother, her father and for Vaun; who promises her a future.

EXCERPT: I want him to. I want it so bad I almost scream it. What I do is pop on my tip toes and shatter any remnants of a line I had drawn with a kiss to end all kisses.
My fingers drive into his hair and his into mine. His tongue sweeps across my lips and I let him in and, holy shit, I’m on fire. I have kissed before and never had this feeling. Vaun is constantly breaking my nevers and, at the rate we are going, I won’t have any left before I die.
And that one thought is the cold bucket of water I need and hate because I want to keep kissing this boy until he’s had enough of me. But I’m dying. While I’m kissing him, I’m dying. While I’m thinking about dying, I’m dying and that just isn’t fair on a boy who has already faced that kind of loss. I pull my mouth from his and sit on the edge of my bed with my hand over my mouth.
“Blue, don’t.” He squats on his knees in front of me, his hands on my hips and he’s looking at me with sad, brown eyes. I shake my head. I don’t want to see him. “Don’t deny us this. Whatever it is that you’re not ready to tell me, we’ll work through it with time. Just let us get through tonight and take each day at a time.”
But we don’t have the luxury of time. We have the ticking of a clock and an undeniable need for each other that’s so unfathomable and so unfair. I close my eyes, unable to look at him anymore. It hurts too much and I feel the waver.
“Harper, I have been carrying such a heavy load of life, I need this. I promise you that if there comes a time where you feel we can’t do this, then I will give it to you. No fight, no pleading. I will give you up if you want, but right now, give us tonight and we can take it one night at a time, one day, one hour, one minute … every second.”

I'm in love with this Author! My heart goes out to her .. All she had to go through ..

I think she's a very strong person .. She's a fighter. And for me she is a hero. We all heard of this terrible disease, some of which It even hit close to home. It's a heavy and sad subject to the patient, family, loved one and friends.

I really liked the way the author wrote the story. I laughed, I was sad, my heart hurt, I fell in love, I was swooning, I laughed again and again and again .. And I finished the book feeling good and strong.

Another thing I loved in this book are the quotes. I just love them! and the author has found a wise use to them in the story, and they added a lot.

This book reminded me in many ways the book/movie "A walk to remember" It's one of my favorite stories, and while reading the book I kept thinking of the story. Because of this, I am currently using elements from the film in my review. I know. Not how I imagined the couple, but forgive me this time? ;)

Harper (Blue) -
What a woman! My heart went out to her. She is so strong! and what she is going through so doesn't deserve her.
Her family is broken, she the glue that holds her family whole, she is who raising her little brother even though the burden of the disease resting on her shoulders.
There are a lot of walls around her, she knows better than to get attached or to start a relationship, because her days are numbered.

Then enters Vaun Campbell.

Wow. What can i say about this soul? I want a Vaun in my life ;)
He Is the bad boy of the community, the misunderstood, no one knows anything about him and he does not share.

Until Harper comes into the picture.

I'm not a fan of insta-love, I think it takes a lot for a couple to fall in love, but in this case, the author made me believe in their love, everything they felt in such a short time was so powerful and reliable, that i was swept along with their amazing and exciting story.

Harper moves to a new town, where she meets Vaun in a party that her cousin takes her (i love her cousin by the way! she is Awasome!).

For Harper, it's the first time she meets him, but not for Vaun, he saw her dancing and crying, and since then he has not stopped thinking about her.

After an incident at the party that Vaun defending her, he and Harper spend a magical night together.

"Don't," His hoarse voice brings goosebumps over my arms.
"What?" I ask a he closes his eyes and shakes his head.
"Don't lick your lips and look all innocent, because all i want to do is kiss you and i promise you that you could trust me."

They decide to be friends, for now, until Vaun convince her that they belong together.

"I'll be your best friend. I'll be the bestest friend you ever had and, when you'r able to give more, all you have to do is say so. I'm not going anywhere."

"Blue Bird, I never want to say goodbye. I want to be with you. I want to feel you, taste you - Christ-all-Mighty - I just want to be with you. I'm you'r best friend and one day you'll let me say the words boyfriend because no matter what, no mistake, that's what i am."

When morning comes, Harper disappears and Vaun goes looking for her.
After he finds her and they take her little brother to his judo class, they sit down to eat, and Vaun shares his past with her.

"His lips are at the corner of my mouth and all i need to do is turn my head just a fraction for him to kiss me. He's waiting for me to decide, to cross the line i drew and want to erase. My heart flutters crazily against his shoulder, almost painfully."

All this time, the heart and the head of Harper are at war, she wants to be with him but can't afford hurting him in the end. For the first time, she has thoughts of recovery, to fight the disease, and hope to get better.

"I'm going to fight death. Fight that bastard like Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Jet Li put together. I'm going to bitch slap him back to wherever he comes from so he won't come for me again until i'm old and ready. I'm going to do this for myself, for benny and for a future with Vaun."

When they can't hold anymore their feelings inside, they reach a point where they must decide whether to cross the line or not.

"I'm lost here, Harper. I know what i want, what you want. I know what we deserve in this shit existence we have lived so far. You've rescued me, Blue, and if you let me, I'll rescue you, too."

"What i do is pop on my tip toes and shatter any remnants of a line i had drawn with a kiss to end all kisses."

Harper has a thing to quotes, and I really liked this part of the book!

"I'm not single & I'm not taken. I'm simply on reserve for the one who deserves my heart because they say good things come to those who wait. Unknown."

After that, they spend an incredible day on the lake with friends.

Vaun takes Harper to his Mom's nursery. His nursery. Where reality hits her.

"You have so much heartache, Vaun. I can't stand any more. My heart isn't strong enough and neither is yours."

When the secret is revealed, how vaun respond?

"Will you fight? I need to know you'll fight, Blue. That you'll fight so damn hard so we never say goodbye."

"I will never give you up. I will fight when you can't fight anymore because i'm never giving you up. God and heaven can't have you because You'r mine. because i loved you first."/>

He is taking care of her all the time. he is her rock.

How this love story end? Is love conquers all?
This you'll have to find out yourself ;)

WOW, I have so much love for Kerri Williams right now!! This was a beautiful book. 5++++ STARS!!!

'I'm not single and I'm not taken. I'm simply on reserve for the one who deserves my heart because they say good things come to those who wait.' ~Unknown

Harper Kennedy is the new girl in town. She only really has one friend, her cousin, April. That is fine with her though because she doesn't have time to devote to new friends. The last thing that she needs is someone else to leave behind when she goes. Then her cousin takes her out for one last night of fun and she meets Vaun Campbell. Vaun is a beautiful boy with a broken heart and a messed up relationship with his father. The last thing either of them need is to get in to a relationship with each other, fate has a different idea though.

'I don't know why but I need Harper to get to know me, not the person everyone sees, the guy I let them see. I want her to know the real me, the new me, the man I want to be even when everything in the world is stacked up against me.'

Harper and Vaun have an intense connection that they can not deny. Harper tries to keep him at an arms length to keep from hurting him, but he doesn't want to stay away from her. She finally gives in and allows him in. She's afraid to let him know her secret though lest he should get hurt, and hurt her in the process. This is a story of love, understanding, and hope.

'I know I should be embarrassed and I should be worried that I could bare such sorrow to a stranger when I keep it closed from the ones who love me most, but Vaun doesn't feel like stranger. He feels like an old friend. One I had once and lost and found again. A friend who understands my tears aren't a moment of weakness but of love. Vaun and I share a kindred spirit of pain, in so many ways different, but heart altering all the same.'

I was literally in tears before I even started the story. Kerri and Chase's stories (included in blog post linked at the bottom) had me bawling. I took this as a good sign going into the book, as I love nothing more than a story that'll make me cry. And cry I did. A. LOT. Harper's story was tragic, but as a parent (and spouse) I was completely devastated by what her father was dealing with. I just couldn't even imagine how one person could deal with all of the pain that the Kennedy family had been dealt. I loved her little brother, he was like a little ray of sunshine in the middle of a thunderstorm. He and Vaun had me laughing more than once.

"I love you, Blue. I love you more than anything left here on this earth and I think we were meant to find one another. You saved me and now... I'm going to save you."

Where can I get a Vaun, I think that it is imperative that I have one. He was so wonderfully supportive, and unwavering in his love of Harper, despite her best attempts to push him away. After the things that he had just went though the fact that he was able to be the person he was for Harper was amazing. I was completely blown away by that man, um boy? I'm going with man, anyone who has been through what Vaun has, is a man.

"The only way you'll be saying goodbye to me is though death and even then I don't want to. I will remember today, tonight, and tomorrow in your arms, under these exceptionally bright stars which I believe spark just for us. I will remember the warmth of your arms around me and your smell, the feel of your cotton tee against my cheek."

This is an 'instalove' story. I didn't mind at all, I thought that it worked in this capacity. I know that a lot of people have it though, so I'm putting it out there. The pull between these two was so palpable that, as a reader, I knew that they had no choice but to be together. Their journey was far from typical but it was completely beautiful. And the understanding of their respective fathers' through their love for one another was amazing. Never Goodbye is not a cliffhanger, hallelujah!! I don't think that my heart would have been able to handle not knowing the fate of Harper and Vaun!! I really have nothing bad to say about this book, except that I was sad that it was over. I will be anxiously awaiting April and Carter's story (I hoping for a little more Harper and Vaun, quite honestly!!) due out in early 2014!!

"Vaun?"
"Mmm"
"I love you."
He kisses my head. " I love you more."
I smile. "I love you more, times a thousand."
He laughs and I love the echo from his neck to my ear. The[n] he says, "I love you a billion times more."
"I love you infinity."
"I love you infinity plus one."
"I think I beat you. There is nothing higher than infinity."
He strokes my arm and sighs, "I love you first."

Loved this book! 4.5 STARS!

 photo nevergoodbye2_zps0e719f2a.jpg

There were so many things I loved about this book! First, I will start with Harper. She is a tough and independent chick who is facing the biggest fight of her life. She is also dealing with a family tragedy; one that is so sad it is threatening the family she has left. Then she meets Vaun and he so badly wants her in his life but she is torn between wanting him and not wanting to bring heartache into his life.

"You have so much heartache, Vaun. I can't stand anymore.
My heart isn't strong enough and neither is yours."

Vaun is swoonworthy! I loved him – just the right mix of bad boy, sexy and sweet with a heart of gold buried under there. He is exactly the kind of male character that I love to read. He adores Harper and I really enjoyed their relationship, particularly the banter between them. Vaun is the kind of guy you would hope that your daughter ends up with. I could go on and on about Vaun - Kerri has done a fabulous job writing him!

Something that I truly loved about this story was the spotlight on family and how much it means to the characters. Harper's cousin, April, was a cool chick and the relationship between these two was written really well as was the relationship between Harper and her brother and father. There were some really heartbreaking moments in this book, in fact I cried twice while reading it and I don't often cry while reading books. The writing was so tender and really captured the feeling of the moments; it must have been a difficult story to write in parts especially now knowing about Kerri's personal fight with cancer.

This is a beautiful young adult book that I highly recommend if you enjoy reading uplifting stories of hope and love. Did I mention how much I loved Vaun?? Go get it!

First off, I wanna salute and congratulate the writer of this book for being cancer free and for sharing her story.... and for sharing 10% of the profit of this book to a kid named Chase, who is right now battling his own demon with cancer.

I was kinda afraid to read the book cause I figured I'd be crying me a river again... but no, you might tear up here and there, that's it. It's a story about Harper who is about to fight her battle with cancer, but before she does, she goes and meet kind and sweet and hot Vaughn, her soulmate. She didn't want to put Vaughn, who lost his mom with the same illness, through another grief... but sometimes, you just have to trust in faith and love.

2

I love how Vaughn stepped up for Harper.... I love Harper's spirit on surviving. It's a light read... no irritating character. It could have have been better, more angst maybe? But all in all, it was alright.

Wow! This was an incredibly moving story that I literally could not put down. I read it in one sitting and cried my eyes out through half the book. For those that know know me, I can count on one hand the number of times that a book has made me weep, so that is quite a compliment to the author for bringing these emotions out of me.

The author has battled cancer herself when she was a teenager, so her descriptions of what it’s like to go through chemotherapy and the after effects are very descriptive and “real”. I could feel the characters pain.

The relationship between Harper and Vaun is incredible. I am not a fan of inst-love and they do fall for each other very quickly, but the author writes it so well that you literally believe they are meant for each other and belong together forever.

Some have asked me if the story has a HEA. To be honest, I really don’t want to answer that because it will take away from the experience of reading this book. I’ll leave it up to the reader to make that decision and take a chance.

I only wish the book hadn’t ended so quickly. I just wanted it to continue on. I’m eagerly anticipating book #2 in the series. This is definitely an author that should be added to your TBR.

What if you found your soul mate at the worst point in your life?

Seventeen year old Harper is in a new town, facing a health crisis, and still suffering from tragedy in in her past. Vaun is plagued by ghosts too, feels isolated and adrift. He has used random sexual encounters to numb his pain, but does not really feel anything.

They meet and form an immediate connection that defies logic. Soon they are immersed in each other lives and harboring strong feelings. But even as Harper tries to pull away to protect Vaun from her secret and uncertain future, it all is exposed.

Will their love be enough to help her in the fight for her life or will Vaun face his biggest loss yet?

I have to say that the insta-love in this book was really fast. However, I will admit that even though insta-love usually annoys me, I found their relationship sweet and heart felt. They were both broken before they met from family issues and traumas, but their meeting truly was the beginning of their new lives and new attitude. It did really feel like they had a soulful connection. And they were so consumed by their feelings and were so good for each other that I kind of just went with it.

"I love you infinity."~Harper
"I love you infinity plus one."~Vaun
"I think I beat you. There is nothing higher than infinity."
"I loved you first."
"You win."

Harper was sweet, loving, caring and has an inner strength. She had faced so much in her young life and was facing the hardest battle yet. But even though she had so much going on in her own life, she could still have empathy and concern for Vaun and his struggles. And her care and concern for her little brother was admirable.

I know I should be embarrassed and I should be worried that I could bare such sorrow to a stranger when I keep it closed from the ones who love me most, but Vaun doesn't feel like stranger. He feels like an old friend. One I had once and lost and found again. A friend who understands my tears aren't a moment of weakness but of love. Vaun and I share a kindred spirit of pain, in so many ways different, but heart altering all the same.

Vaun was simply amazing. He was funny, protective, loving, and devoted. From the minute he saw her, she pulled him in. And he jumped head first into wanting more with her even as she tried to pull back and not let him in. From the beginning, he saw their connection for what it was, never fought it or denied it. In fact, he pushed it. And when things were difficult, he pushed them both through it and found way to make a difference in her life. And she had a positive effect on his too by giving him someone to truly care about and also helping him deal with his own feelings of loss and family issues. Since they had been through so much, they both showed much more maturity than typical seventeen year olds.

"I love you, Blue. I love you more than anything left here on this earth and I think we were meant to find one another. You saved me and now... I'm going to save you."

"Will you fight? I need to know you'll fight, Blue. That you'll fight so damn hard so we never say goodbye...God and Heaven can't have you you because you're mine, because I loved you first."

There was pain, heart break, sweetness, and love. It was difficult, challenging, emotional, and moving. There were parts where I lost my breath, teared up, and wanted to throw my kindle. Knowing that the author has first hand experience of this topic, made it even more meaningful. But this was ultimately a story of love, redemption, and hope against terrible odds. There were twists and turns. And it will keep you wondering, hoping, and in suspense til the very end.

Thanks to Kerri Williams for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review. http://tammyandkimreviews.blogspot.co...

Five HUGE stars!!!! I first want to say that I am truly grateful that Kerri opens up about her story at the beginning of the book. It also is amazing that she is giving 10% of the proceeds to a boy named Chase battling cancer (you also get to read his story at the beginning.) Also the cover is gorgeous and absolutely gives you a feel for the book.

Grab the tissues and keep them handy this entire book! Oh my goodness Kerri Williams delivers a heartwarming sweet romantic story that is sure to win you over and make you want to read it all over again! It has quickly found a way on to my top favorite reads and if I could cast the perfect cast I would want this to be made into a movie tomorrow!

Your heart breaks for Harper at the same time you want to slap her upside the head! She is spunky and fun and I wanted her to be my best friend! Vaun is a dreamboat and sweetheart who you fall in love with instantly. It is the perfect story of a sweet innocent first love that grows into an only love. It beautifully showcases how love can overcome any obstacle and give you strength in times that you don't have any. This is definitely on my must read list! ~ Leslie

Be prepared to hold a box of tissues next to your bed.. because seriously I cried like a baby.

This book is one of those books, where you know what challenges up head these characters will have to face, and even when you are dreading the moment when it all comes to a head, you can't stop reading it.

This is absolutely WONDERFUL! Kerri Williams made a liar out of me…

I have a rule: I do not do YA books unless it’s a Colleen Hoover book. Is that you too? Well, let me introduce you to Kerri Williams, people!!!! Write her name down!! Never heard of her? Me either until I needed a come down book and a friend recommended this. I was coming off an emotionally intense and fabulously written book with slightly taboo subject matter and needed a sacrificial lamb so to speak. This turned out to be anything but a lamb. (BTW – my friend deserves the biggest hug and smooch ever for recommending this book!)
“I'm not single and I'm not taken. I'm simply on reserve for the one who deserves my heart because they say good things come to those who wait.” ~Unknown
This story is much more than two teenagers falling in love. It’s about finding your soul mate and fighting for what you want. Harper is sick and not just a little cough or sniffle. Just by looking at her, you’d never believe she’s fighting for her life on the inside. She and her family move to a new town to be closer to family when Harper starts treatment. Knowing her reality, Harper is determined to focus on her family and making sure everything is in order for when the times comes. She’s vowed to keep everyone at arm’s length – there’s no sense pulling people into her world knowing it won’t last long. She’s not selfish in thinking HER time is limited, she’s worried about the hurt that will remain for the others when she’s gone. Adhering to her plan of no attachment is quite difficult when Vaun Campbell is the one trying to worm his way in.

Vaun is no stranger to loss. After having lost his mother, Vaun’s world has been lonely and dark. There’s just something about Harper that brings the sunshine back, and he’s not about to let her go.

It’s more than easy to fall in love with these characters. Harper wants nothing more than to ease the pain of everyone around her, and Vaun wants nothing more than to ease Harper’s. These two truly are soul mates. Their connection is strong and so sweet it will melt your heart.

Not only will you fall in love with Harper and Vaun, you’ll also fall in love with Kerri herself. If you’re one of those people that does not read the dedication, forward, or author note at the beginning of a book DO NOT SKIP the Author Note here.

Before you open this book, set your emotions on repeat because Kerri Williams has created a wonderfully emotional story that will have your feelings going down a path then circling right back around… repeatedly.

I have to mention the quotes – I loved them! The way Kerri weaved them into the storyline is great. And, you will also come to realize SpongeBob SquarePants is quite the philosopher.

If you’re looking for a story that will have you laughing, crying, smiling, and everything in between GET THIS BOOK!

♥•♥•♥ Grab yourself a glass of sweet tea, tons of tissues, and get ready to enjoy the surprise that is waiting for you in Never Goodbye. ♥•♥•♥

First off can I just say that after reading this book I admire the strength and fury that this author went throughout her cancer ordeal, and for her to write a book and base some of it on her real life experiences is truly amazing, thank you Kerri for sharing this heart-warming, earth shattering book of yours.

Secondly also a HUGE thank you to Kerri for providing me with an ARC copy to review for the blog tour coming soon. My stop is at @ www.endlessreading.wordpress.com and will be live on 17th September 2013.

Harper Kennedy, is the new girl in town. The city gal in a small town. Harper lives with her brother "Benny" who I absolutely adore, as if he was my own brother, and her dad. Your wondering where her mother is? Well due to an unforeseen accident, this left her mother in a care home, unable to respond or acknowledge anyway, even her own family.

So here we Harper a young, alone, girl who has been through so much heartache, she can't take no more, but unfortunately, AGAIN, she has been dealt the wrong set of cards by fate. She's Ill, and I mean seriously ill, the BIG C ill.

The last thing that she needs is someone else to leave behind when she goes.

'I'm just so scared my heart isn't strong enough for this; that I'll let you down. I'm scared you will give in to the fight and I'm left saying goodbye to the last person I will love in my entire life.'
- Vaun

Vaun: Is the HOT, total swoonworthy, had to get hold of type of guy, yes! seriously that is of course until he sees the most angelic looking female dance across the school stage........Harper.

He was funny, protective, loving, and devoted. From the minute he saw Harper, she pulled him in.

He is exactly the kind of male character that I love to read. He adores Harper and I really enjoyed their relationship, particularly the banter between them.

Vaun character was actually based on Kerri's own Superman, her husband Michael.

"You have so much heartache, Vaun. I can't stand anymore.
My heart isn't strong enough and neither is yours."

This book is written from both Harper and Vaun’s P.O.V which I loved. We get the insight into the turmoil their facing but not expressing, we see the inner thoughts without wording them aloud.
The writing was so tender and really captured the feelings of the characters at certain points in the book; it must have been a difficult story to write especially now knowing about Kerri's personal fight with cancer, such a brave and courageous woman.

'And so, here I am, surrounded by love, disease free and using it all in a book for you to read. My fight against the monster and my survival with love is all there for you to read mixed in with a great dash of fiction.'
- Kerri Williams

I laughed, I cried (well to be honest, balled me eyes out was more like it) and couldn't put this book down, not for a single moment, i was enthralled to keep reading, and finish the astounding story.

Kerri you touched my heart in more ways than one with this beautiful story and I love you for that. Keep Strong!

This book is so sweet and full of emotions that made me think Vaun being so young ^^ how could he muster so much emotions within him :P

I just loved Harper and Vaun together, they are little birds (YUP :D) dealing with life the way it is *sigh*

Vaun:

Harper:

It starts with Haper and her cousin going out to attend a pool party. There she meets Vaun and they instantly click :D but she is shy and they dont interact much. Its when she is insulted by Vaun's dad and Vaun rescues Haper... That starts their awesome journey to romance and self discovery.

Their 1st moment is when they spend a night in Vaun's car

Vaun has seen lots of sadness and he is very lonely. Harper wants to live life but is suffering from a serious health issue. She does not have enough time.

When Vaun comes to know about Harper's health issue... what does he do,,, He supports her to the complete end.

I loved their spongebob moments, when Vaun writes these amazing quotes from spongebob. ^^

***ARC received for honest review*** - originally posted at Reading Rainblog

I knew just from reading the very beginning of this book that it was going to be one of those “ugly cry” books. You know the ones – you spend over half the book with tears running down your face, and a pile of tissues next to you. This was definitely one of those books! But, I don’t mean that in a bad way. Not at all!

After reading the beginning of the book and learning Kerri’s personal story, as well as Chase’s story, I pretty much knew what was going to be going on with Harper in the book. And I was terrified that it wasn’t going to be an HEA – even though the name of the book is ‘Never Goodbye’. There were some serious ‘Walk to Remember’ (Nicholas Sparks) type moments throughout this book. And I mean that in an emotional, bawled my eyes out, felt like someone kicked my puppy way.

Kerri obviously brought a lot of her own personal experience with Cancer into the book, which was amazing, because if you’ve never been through something like that (and I haven’t), it’s not an easy POV to write. I can imagine all day long, but I don’t think I’ve ever read a book about a character with Cancer that affected me the way this one did. Kerri’s emotions seriously came through and I felt like I was right there with Harper – going through treatment, making decisions, trying not to fall in love with Vaun because he had his own demons, and he’d already lost someone to Cancer himself.

Harper is the new girl in town. She’s just moved with her father and brother, after a tragedy has touched their family. In addition to what they’ve already been through, Harper is sick. Really sick, the “you’re probably not going to come out of this alive” sick. She meets Vaun, the town “bad boy” at a party, and the rest is history. The whole insta-love dynamic bothers me, but these are high-schoolers, and lets face it, high-schoolers fall in and out of love as often as most people change underwear.

I think the thing that bothered me most throughout the book was the use of “frack”. But, I have a potty-mouth, so using substitutions drives me batty anyway! This is an absolute must-read book, for YA and NA readers. It’s the type of book that I would be okay with my 15-year old reading, even though there are a few sexual scenes, it’s not explicit (no Fifty Shades-esque scenes – promise!). It was very tasteful, and more the suggestion of it than anything.

Kerri did an awesome job building up the characters into realistic people. I could connect with everyone (even though Harpers cousin irritated me often – especially at the beginning!) and I loved how certain characters were redeemed. I especially loved Vaun. With the way the book started, I was expecting one guy, but I got a sensitive, deep, loving, responsible man.

This book gets 4.5 stars from me!

This book is rated 6 stars at my blogsite:

http://givemebooksblog.blogspot.com.a...

There are not enough stars in the universe to rate this book.

Every so often, if you are lucky enough, a book comes along that touches you so profoundly you know that a part of it will stay with you always. Never Goodbye is that book for me!

'And so, here I am, surrounded by love, disease free and using it all in a book for you to read. My fight against the monster and my survival with love is all there for you to read mixed in with a great dash of fiction.'

- Kerri Williams

Kerri has put all her experience, heartbreak and love into this story and it shows in every way. As per the quote below, Kerri is definitely one of the few people that feel the rain.

'Some people feel the rain while others just get wet'

- Bob Marley

Never Goodbye is one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. Harper Kennedy is fighting what could possibly be a losing battle against The Big C. As is typical of Harper, she is more concerned with how this is affecting everyone around her than herself. Harper is thankful that her family have recently relocated to Albany, Missouri where everyone there is unaware of the battle she has ahead of her.

Things don't always go to plan and Harper meets Vaun Campbell. Harper tries desperately not to fall in love with the sweetest guy she has ever met. Vaun has recently lost his mother and the last thing Harper wants to do, is put him through the pain of losing someone he loves all over again.

'I'm just so scared my heart isn't strong enough for this; that I'll let you down. I'm scared you will give in to the fight and I'm left saying goodbye to the last person I will love in my entire life.'

- Vaun

The promise of a beautiful future with Vaun gives Harper the incentive to fight this horrible disease, with all her heart and soul.

'God and heaven can't have you because you're mine, because I loved you first.'

- Vaun

I laughed, I cried (well to be honest, sobbed was more like it) and couldn't put this book down. I felt lost when I had finished reading and will be waiting very impatiently for the next instalment of The Albany Boys series.

Never Goodbye will have an everlasting impact on me and from the bottom of my heart, I thank Kerri so much for writing this and sharing it with us all.

5++ stars

Harper Kennedy is a very sick girl in a new town. She's about to start a grueling cancer treatment that the doctors are doubtful will work, and she's trying to prepare her broken family for life without her. Her cousin takes her to a party to make her forget for a little while, and she meets Vaun Campbell. Beautiful, troubled, Vaun who doesn't really connect with anyone, but somehow makes an instant connection with Harper.

Harper and Vaun have instant, very strong feelings for each other but Harper can't bring herself to purposely make Vaun go through more pain and loss for someone he loves again. Thankfully, Vaun refuses to go away, and their bond becomes deeper and deeper. Even though they are only teenagers, they realize they are true soul mates, and their love gives Harper something to fight - and maybe dare to hope - for.

Harper's story broke my heart. Imagine being seventeen and finding the love of your life, and then having to deal with the reality that the rest of your life be a matter of months. Harper knew the closer she got to Vaun the greater the risk she would destroy him if she didn't make it. She also assumed her mother's role in her family for her younger brother and broken father, and she was scared of what they would become without her. At an age where kids are at their most selfish and impulsive, when faced with the fact that she may never get better, Harper had emotional maturity well beyond her years and still always put herself last.

Vaun may be the most courageous character in this story. The love he had for Harper was true unconditional love, something that most adults aren't even capable of. When the disease and the treatment were at its worst, he never missed an opportunity to tell her how much he loved her or how beautiful she was. His sweet words had me in tears throughout most of the book. He was determined to give her something to fight for.

"Will you fight? I need to know you'll fight, Blue. That you'll fight so damn hard so we never say goodbye...God and Heaven can't have you because you're mine, because I loved you first."

Through all the sadness in this book, there is also so much hope. Hope that even though you were dealt the worst cards in life, it doesn't mean your life is over. It means you find a way to move on and find happiness, for not only the people you love, but for yourself. Because in the end, whenever that is, that is all that matters.

First of all this book is giving proceeds to a great cause, so that in itself deserves an extra gold star!

This story had it all, I laughed, I cried, I fell in love and felt heart brake. Its a wonderful story of falling in love and finding ones soul mate.
Harper has lost her mom, the shell of the women left isn't her mother, not really. Her dad is an absent parent, forced to work non stop to put food on the table and the care for his wife and love of his life. She's forced to be a mother/father/sister to her younger brother Ben. In a new house, in a new town, half way across the country she makes a best friend in her estranged cousin.
April is laugh out loud funny, she brings the light heartedness to a sad story.

"..Benny, jumps out from the living room and shoots April in the cheek with a Nerf dart. I gasp and she of course screams the eff bomb, leaving her and Benny glaring at one another. It would be hilarious if I don't actually believe April would probably rip his ten year old balls from his body."

Not only has seventeen year old Harper been dealt a sh!tty hand to begin with, but now she has cancer, aggressive cancer that the doctors tell her to prepare for death within a couple months. She has come to except her fate and the weekend before her first treatment she meets Vaun.
Vaun is going through a lot emotionally, he just lost his mom to cancer a couple months beforehand, had to move in with his dad, stepmom and stepbrother. He uses girls in excess to make his pain go away. When they meet its an immediate attraction, but its more then that, they are drawn to each other.

"Friendship is the single soul dwelling in two bodies.- Aristotle"

Harper is afraid Vaun cant handle her sickness. She try's to keep him at arms length believing that if cant get to close when she dies he will be able to move on.

"But we don't have a luxury of time. We have a ticking of a clock and an undeniable need for each other that's so unfathomable and so unfair."

This story is beautifully written, a sweet love story that fills you with hope and leaves you with a smile.

One girl, one boy. Neither of them a stranger to heartache. They meet, theyf all in love, but heartbreak might only be on the heels for them both. Never Goodbye is a stunning story of love, loss, emotions, and fighting for what you believe in.

Harper is new in town, and she's just finding her way. She goes to a party with a friend and that's where she meets Vaun. He's quiet, different, but very intriguing. They have an instant attraction and connection that changes both of their lives.

I was enchanted with this story! The one downfall that really didn't work for me was the complete insta- love. I get love at first sight, i get instant attraction, but for some reason, this one didn't pull off as fully believable to me. Still, I loved this story, loved the way Vaun and Harper changed each other's world. It's like two people that have endured their fair share of pain suddenly find each other and manage to change their world.

There's just one little problem.

Time might not be on Harper's side.

She struggles with the inevitable. She doesn't want to allow herself to fall for Vaun. She doesn't want to put him through another hell.

The book captured my attention right away. I loved the changes in Vaun. I love their banter. I love how he came into Harper's life, and into her brother Ben's life and made things better for them. The humor, the interaction between the characters had me smiling. The ending scared the hell out of me and had a few twists and moments that had me at the edge of my seat screaming, heart racing, but stole my heart. I want the next story...say NOW!

Beautifully written, smoothly transitioning between Harper and Vaun's POV, this story is wonderful, bittersweet, and emotional. I pretty much read it in one sitting.

Well done!

“Let go of what kills you and hold on to what keeps you breathing.” Spongebob. I think Spongebob says it all here. This book was frull of emotion, love, honor, and honesty. The author goes above and beyond with this book.
Harper Kennedy is strong willed, amazing, tender hearted, and a little feisty. It amazes me how this character carries such a disease around but is very strong and optimistic. Coming from the author who suffered the same disease and lived through it and conquered it, I give my heart too. Harper’s story is amazing and I felt for her but also fought for her.
Vaun Campbell is a bad boy with attitude, no care in the world, to having the biggest, sweetest heart ever. I love this boy and his strength and will to stay and help fight. You couldn’t have asked for a better man.
You need to get this book and read it. It is a must read. The author is also giving $.50 on every ebook sold and $1.00 on every paperback to a family with a little boy suffering the same disease. His story is at the beginning of the book and you will see he is a fighter too. I know the author told me not too long ago that he had got up and walked.
I know you are probably thinking from reading this review I was doing more of a review on my feelings toward the sick in this book. When you read it you will see they don’t want sympathy but want fighters on their sides. They need fighters and I think they need people to keep them grounded and normal.
So go buy this book read it and understand this disease and how a teenage girl deals with it. Really it helps to that Vaun is hot, sexy, and compassionate. I am giving this book 4 ½ hearts.

***Have the man size tissues at the ready because you are sooo going to need them!***

This has to be one of the most heartfelt love stories I have ever read, and I mean EVER! Kerri hit the emotional nail right on the head.
It has it all, love, passion, typical teenage fun, but it also has the gut wrenching down side of a devastating disease that rips relationships and families apart.
It’s written from both Harper and Vaun’s POV which I loved. I enjoyed seeing things from both sides and how situations are seen differently from each person.

I cried, I laughed and I cried some more with his very touching book. In fact, its so well written I felt like I was actually there for most of it.
My favourite part has to be the “pond” seeing Harper so carefree and happy was very touching.
The part I cried most at, the ending. Kerri, just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse for this beautiful couple you did THAT! Total sob fest :’(
Favourite character (other than Vaun *swoon*) has to be kick ass April, her sassiness at the pool party was off the chart!

Kerri you touched my heart in more ways than one with this beautiful story and I love you for that, in fact I’m off to one-click all your books, just don’t tell my other half

A story of hope, love, loss, forgiveness, fighting and dreaming. It had me in years so many times and when I wasn't in tears my heart was lodged in my throat waiting for the next tear to fall. It also made me laugh. It broke my heart and made me smile. Vaun is my hero and I love him. He is so strong and yet so fragile. He has loved few and struggled. He is broken and just passing through life until Harper.

Harper is strong and determined but scared. My heart broke for her so many times she is enduring so much not only within herself but with her family at such a young age. She is smart, beautiful and given a new hope for life.

I definitely recommend this book. You really need to read it but make sure to read the first page it makes I all that much better. To know that the author dealt with this in her life sank me. I can see that she too is a fighter a survivor and given a new outlook at life, how amazing.

Kudos to the author on an amazing, beautiful and heart warming story!!

Honestly, I could on and on about this book. It was phenomenal. This wasn’t just another coming of age story about a teenage girl and her boyfriend. I felt emotionally vested in Williams’ character Harper. Williams wasn’t just writing like a teenage girl diagnosed with cancer; she offered a first-hand account based on personal experience. Harper’s boyfriend Vaun was based on Williams’ own Superman, her husband Michael. After Vaun finds out from Harper about her cancer he tells her, “I will never give you up. I will fight when you can’t fight anymore because I’m never giving you up. God and heaven can’t have you because your mine, because I loved you first.” It just can’t get any better than that. It because of stories like this, that make me believe in sole mates and unconditional love.
