Sacrifice is a 23,000 word prequel to Fall For Me. It tells the story of Grace and Seth, and what happened in that castle. It is meant to be read after Fall For Me, although it can be read first...

Seth’s heart is breaking. He knows his decision will hurt the one person he keeps breathing for, but he can’t take it anymore. He can’t be near Grace knowing she will always be just out of reach.

Grace is oblivious to Seth’s turmoil. She loves him unconditionally, but not in the way he wants. They both know that in Heaven physical love is forbidden, and to break the rules is to defy everything they’ve ever been taught.

When Grace and Seth are sent on a mission to save a young mother and her unborn child, Grace must face the fact that Seth won’t be returning home. She doesn’t understand Seth’s decision and hates him for it. But what neither of them realise is how big a part that single decision will play in shaping their entire future.

What would you sacrifice for the one you love?

I was completely surprised by what Sacrifice offered me, to be honest. I was cautious and nervous about Fall For Me- book one of the series- and decided to try Sacrifice to see what the outcome would be. Compared to so many other angel books, this was a lovely novel with a few holes along the way. One thing I know is for sure, I really want to read Fall For Me.

A novella prequel told in the perspectives of Grace and Seth, readers get a taste of what happened the day Seth fell. While this idea may have seemed cliché, or repetitive even, I was intrigued by the other elements being pulled along. We have the mysterious mission Grace and Seth go on first, to a castle to save a maiden and her child, but the archangels refuse to give extra details why they saving the humans. When the mission comes to an end, Seth falls without another word. He fell because he couldn't just look at Grace an know that he'd never be able to love her. Dramatic, you say? Unforeseeably, not really. Sacrifice does not just stop there, the fast pace and jumping right into it attitude at the beginning ensures is a satisfactory story. We get to see Seth as a fallen angel and further plans the archangels had planned out.

I felt the writing could use less telling and more showing as well as the characters receiving some more definition. Other than that, a fulfilling read! Recommended to people who miss the angel genre but don't want the same old lame story.

First off let me say that receiving an ARC of this book was so awesome! Thank you Kim!

I love how this book starts.
Michael the Archangel and Seth another Angel are fighting it out about Seth wanting to fall.

Now let me just say that the first two sentences grabbed me! Hooked right away is always a great thing!!

Part One- Seth

Seth is an Angel in Heaven he is resolved in his decision to fall and never come back. The reason..... love....
He has loved Grace for so long but even though they can be together always it's not in the ways that he wants. He longs to be close to her but physical relationships are forbidden for Angels.
He's already decided what he has to do and the pain and anguish he's experiencing pulls on my heart. The way he takes in every second with her like it's the last is breathtaking. The devotion and adoration and want is evident.
Seth and Grace are sent on a mission to England it's bittersweet for him because he knows the time is coming soon to lose her for eternity.
Their assignment is Amity a pregnant peasant scullery maid. To help her in any way they can.
But once this mission is done it will be time to let go.... of everything. And just like in Fall For Me this part made me cry when he takes his fall....

Now onto Part Two Grace

She's hurt and confused and all of Heaven reminds her of Seth. She needs a mission to keep her mind off of the pain of life without him. That and the anger at him for leaving her at all. She gets herself a indefinite mission as a Protection Angel on Earth. To be reborn as the female twin to generation upon generation of male vampire hunters.
And Seth is always going to be trying to talk to her and will never give up. But Grace is determined to keep her distance.

I really love this prequel!
It answered so many questions that I had after reading Fall For Me! It gave an in depth look into Seth and Grace individually and
the dynamic between them. It also explains Grace's indefinite mission in great detail.
I cannot wait for book two!
I need more!
I definitely recommend reading Fall For Me and then this book!!!

Well, I wanted more Seth and I got more Seth, but its still not enough (I am waiting impatiently for Fight for me!). Sacrifice is an interesting look into the life before Grace came to earth and why she was given the task she was given. I liked how it showed every life Grace was born into. Now, what to read while I wait for Fight for me?

Well, what can I say? K.A. Last you did it again.

In Fall For Me we were introduced to Grace, a Protection Angel and Seth, a Fallen Angel. They have a history together that was hinted at in some flashbacks and dialogue exchange but nothing more. I so wanted to know more about their story. When I found out K.A. Last was writing this book before the second one in the series I was so excited. I wanted to know the background.

Sacrifice is such a great prequel. We are introduced to the realm of angels. What do they do in Heaven and what kind of work are they involved in. I really liked the descriptions. They were very vivid. Loved have Michael involved too. I have a feeling this is not the last we have seen of the Archangel.

This story is mostly told from Seth's POV. I loved that. I felt the anguish as he wrestles with his decision.

My only complaint is that I felt like it needed to be longer! I wanted more! :)

My 5 star rating means: I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I had to keep going until I was finished. When I finished I felt very emotional. The characters felt like my best friends. It was so real I felt like I was a character in the novel. I will directly purchase this book in some format.

I love this series so much. When I read Fall For Me, I fell in love with Seth, and this prequel really got me to love him even more. I felt so sorry for him, we got to get inside his head for the first part of the book. Then it goes to Grace, and we get to see more of what happened to lead us up Fall for Me. I was able to understand the whole story so much better reading this prequel.

It’s a short novella, but packed full of very interesting backstory of this world. The series as a whole is great. It’s a whole new take on angels and fallen angels for sure, as well as the whole mix with the vampires. We do not see much of the vampires in the prequel, just mention of Grace being a vampire hunter.

I highly recommend this book, as well as Fall for Me. I think if you want some surprises you would be better off reading Fall For Me first then this one, but really it can go either way.

5 out of 5 stars for me, highly recommended.

I received this book free in return for a review (Lovers of Paranormal)

I haven't read Fall for me but I still enjoyed this book although I think if I had read Fall for me first, I have felt a bit more connected to the characters.

I like how its started out with Seth and Micheal fighting, this gives you an insight to Seth's personality.

I did feel that the the castle was a little boring but the way she describes Seth's feelings as he decides to fall is very good.

I really got into the book after Seth falls and found the new mission Grace is sent on interesting.

Over all I thought it was a good read and enjoyed the style of writing and I will def be getting Fall for Me.

Really enjoyed this book. A fab prequel to 'Fall for me' that I was yearning for. I especially enjoyed the reference to historical England and was secretly hoping for more, however, the story flowed well and explained the intensity of Seth's emotions which was a necessary set up for the next book. Well written, easy reading and most importantly - relaxing! This is why I read, to relax. This book achieved this for me. Thank you K.A Last. I am now waiting in anticipation for the sequel.

A short but enjoyable pre-sequel to the series. This is my introduction to the series and I can't wait to see where it goes from here. I enjoyed the duel perspective that the author presented. It really helps us understand both characters and why they are the way they are. I can't wait to see more of Grace and Seth.

I was lucky enough to read Sacrifice prior to publication. It is a gripping and emotional prequel that explores Seth and Grace's life pre-earth. It was fabulous to see part if the story told from Seth's POV. Well done KA Last, a thoroughly enjoyable read!

Sacrifice is the prequel before Fall For Me where we meet Grace and Seth back when they were still in heaven. We get to see the events leading to Seth's fall from grace.

I obviously liked this prequel better than the full book. I know now that it's pretty much because we got Seth's point of view for the most time. I love him. He's my favorite character. I could feel how much he struggled with his decision to leave heaven and leave Grace. Personally I think it was all a little bit too selfish of him but I like him better as a dark angel anyway.
I still wasn't too big a fan of Grace, though she didn't annoy nearly as much as she did for the most part in Fall For Me.

I loved seeing how they went on a mission, as they almost always did together. They feel each other so well and are really in sync with one another. When Seth fell, I could really feel how heartbroken Grace was and it's weird how she didn't know about his feelings until centuries later in Fall For Me but oh well.

In my review of Fall For Me I mentioned how in my opinion the book was weak and poorly written but in this prequel I thought it wasn't nearly as bad actually. Again I think it was because of Seth. Great characters can make a difference.
Though I only really liked that first part before Grace accepted her mission to become a protection angel for the Tate family. The parts after I was a little unsure over because again the vampires weirded me out.

I also must say that we meet Michael and I absolutely loved him. I found him hilarious in the way he always shows up in a burst of clouds. This might not make any sense but you have to read it to know about it. I loved how he helped Seth and I wished he was in Fall For Me. That would've made everything so much better I think.

Overall this was a likable prequel. Much better than Fall For Me which does makes me a little more interested in the second book, if I ever going to read it. If only for Seth and Michael. 3 stars!

„Sacrifice [t]ells the story of Grace and Seth, [...]. It is meant to be read after Fall For Me, although it can be read first...”

This is the author’s warning and I understand why. In general, the "intermediate" stories come to satisfy readers’ desire for something more: the point of view of a character about a subject, an important moment occurred before the book’s action, for that something that was the story’s starting point. And also in general, these stories are not up to the main volumes - if the author has not already written such sequences.

I read with pleasure the Sacrifice (Book # 0.5) which "explains" the Seth’s choice. I believe that knowing him as angel brings him an advantage, because it highlights his good nature and the suffering that he goes through. His sacrifice is worthy of admiration. (I can say that from a while I have not seen a cover so well suited to the subject.)

Regarding Grace, initially I didn’t like her too much. Such love in such a relationship shouldn’t go unobserved by her. There’s no sign that Seth is for her something more than the best friend.

Anyway, reading the prequel first, I can say that the series rises my interest.

Sacrifice will make you very curious about what will happen, what will be and how it will carry out the connection / conflict between supernatural "species", what implication will have the secondary characters. In what regard the two protagonists, certainly the life "after" will be offered them other worldviews and I’m very curious how they developed. Even if a happy ending is predictable (and very desirable – this is for the author to not change her mind), Sacrifice brings the promise of a series with many twists where everything is possible.

I cannot wait to read the series!

I’ve always been weary of prequels because they sound like one long preface, but for Sacrifice it worked. Kudos to K.A. Last for pulling it off! Sacrifice, the prequel to Fall For Me, was lovely beyond words.

As a Seth fan, I heartily enjoyed hearing the story from his POV. This was done seamlessly and I’m now an even bigger Team Seth member. I love the world according to Seth. “Mankind has always been its own worst enemy.”

The love he feels for Grace is so palpable it radiates from his whole being.

“I imprinted in my memory every line and every curve of her body, because I didn’t know when I’d see her next, or if I’d ever see her again.”

But there’s trouble in paradise where love between angels is forbidden, which leads to Seth’s ultimate sacrifice.

Heaven. Oh my gosh. This has got to be the best description of the great above that I’ve ever read.
Most of the story took place in 17th century England and was rich with historical detail.

The prequel also explained how Grace came to be in the position she is as sister and protector of her vampire hunting “brother.” That was a really cool tie in and brought me closer to the story and characters.

Last better get working on book two!

Sacrifice is the prequel to Fall For Me , during which Seth and Grace both have important choices to make. Seth, forbidden to express his love for Grace, is becoming desperate: stay in Heaven and yearn for what he can’t have, or forsake Heaven and fall? His decision sets the ball rolling for Grace’s own choice about whether or not to embark on a potentially indefinite mission to Earth.

First things first: the cover is gorgeous.

I’m not usually too keen on “in-between” books. I find that most of them lack a developed story, and I am left unsatisfied. Sacrifice is essentially the narrated backstories of Grace and Seth and how they came to be where they are in Fall For Me (or so I assume). This one was decently developed, with a small arc for Seth’s POV, and a small arc for Grace’s POV. Last does a good job at making their voices distinct from each other, and how she described Heaven was cool.

However, it would have been interesting to have seen greater conflict on Seth’s part, the tension/pain that no matter how much he longs to touch Grace, he cannot. His choice seems a bit fast. This prequel is, however, effective at whetting your appetite for Fall For Me .

I am giving this 3.5 stars, rounding up.

{my thoughts} - This book helps to better explain the history between Seth and Grace. I have to admit it wasn't what I had expected, however it did live up to my expectations. It is a well written book that covers grief, happiness, sadness, love, acceptance and much more. I really enjoyed this book because the entire time I had been reading {fall for me} I had been curious as to how the characters had gotten to the point in which they knew each other but had a dislike for one another and I wanted to know more about the history as to why that had been the case. This is a nice quick read and well worth it if you want to better understand the series.

{reason for reading} - I was given a copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review.

Sacrifice is a great introduction to The Tate Chronicles, a series I hope to read soon.

What made me go with 4 stars instead of 5 (and this is a tiny little thing) is with the story covering such a vast expand of time, the language used was the same throughout. I would have loved to have seen some 'Ye Olde' English language in Seth's POV to set the mood a little better and maybe used all five senses for the reader to fully lose themselves in. This is my only gripe and like I said, such a small detail.

I felt Grace's anger with Seth in her POV and loved the mission she is on. Seth's persistence with Grace is inspiring and I can't wait to read the rest of the series to see how things pan out for them.

Great read.

I loved this story, it took me a few pages to get into the story because I don't normally read Angels but that's not a reflection on the quality of the book. By far my interest was peeked in the last quarter of the story and I'm left wanting more.

Sacrifice is a great book. It gives you a look into Seth's head. I have already read Fall For Me, and Sacrifice helped me understand some things about Seth's and Grace's relationship. And I have to say that I'm team Seth and not team Joshua.

3.5 Stars.

I bought this and books 1&2 at a book signing in Australia, ( they have different covers) and although I started this book when I got back, I never finished it.
finally I restarted it and I finished (and am now reading Fall for Me.)

so reading the prequel first means I don't know the characters and I got to know them through this book.

Seth, I liked him, I got his frustration, he 'Loves' Grace, - not in a heavenly angelic way, but in a raw, emotional and definitely not how an Angel should feel... but Grace hasn't got a clue.

Grace, she seems like a typical angel, who, follows heaven's rules to the letter.
She does have feelings for Seth, they work as partners, but because Angels aren't supposed to have 'emotional' feelings for anyone, she comes across as naive.

Michael, the Archangel, is a friend of Seth, and I am sure he has some agenda for both Seth and Grace... I guess by book 2 I will find out if my hunch is true.

on the whole I enjoyed the book, it could have had a bit more world building, and tighten up a little. but overall it was a good prequel. l definitely went straight to reading Fall for Me after I finished this book. (I'm already at chapter 15) and enjoying it more than this book.

What I didn't like was Seth not giving any explanation to Grace to why he renounced heaven.

my favorite part was when Grace finally decided to agree to her next assignment , the storyline gets a lot more interesting from that point on, making me definitely want to read the rest of the series.

Oh, this free prequel was delish and made me go buy the 1st book in the trilogy stat. A good boy turned bad boy fallen angel pining for a fellow girl angel, gimme! I have high hopes for Seth & Grace. There is some Christian dogma there - about no love stories between fellow angels & things being very black and white, so if your world is kinda grey, you’ll tilt towards Seth and if you’re down with the rules, you’ll tilt towards Grace. The feel of the story was a bit melancholy, like the City of Angels movie and then things got turned on their head with another paranormal phenomenon brought in, in a dark but good way. I won’t give you any spoilers, go read it yourself. If you like Hansel&Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013 movie) and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, you’ll love this one, you will.

Recommended for lovers of angelic YA lore, paranormal romance and PNR fantasy and love-to-hate-to-love stories.

Incredible place to start for a new reader of K. A. Last!

I love that I was able to start this series with the prequel! The characters are new to me, but already have made such an impression that I simply can't wait to dig in to the next book! I look forward to reading this entire series and any other that comes from K.A. Last. Her writing pulls you right into the story and takes you out of reality in a matter of moments.....perfect! I can easily say she is now on my favorites list!

Man or Angel

This could have been a very good story, except the way it ended messed it up. After reading 85 percent of the story it ended. Even thou it is part of a series it could have ended properly. The book went on to recount the story just told. Even thou what had been t read was interesting the way it is told makes it not worth the effort..

Exciting read

This is going to be a really good book to read. It's about a angel falling in love with his best friend and love isn't aloud in heaven so he renounces God thinking it would be better but when Grace takes a job on Earth then things get really interested

Original review at Gabic Reads as part of the Fall for Me Blog Tour

Last does an amazing job with descriptions in this short novella. This is one of my favorite lines from the book:

My heart was breaking into a thousand tiny pieces, and I was scared they would spill from my chest and scatter across the galaxy. Suddenly, I was nothing but a tiny speck in an enormous void of space, surrounded by sadness. (eARC p46)

I loved the character of Seth. He seemed like a sweet, caring guy in unfortunate circumstances. He's not allowed to fall in love. But he has done just that and so he decides to give up his life as an angel and his friendship with the woman he loves and become a fallen one.

Once Seth falls, Grace struggles to understand why he would abandon her. She hates him for leaving this life, for leaving her. He had everything he could possibly want, why leave? To take her mind off of him, she's sent on an indefinite mission, as a vampire hunter. She must protect her twin brother every generation and together they seek to destroy these evil creatures. But soon, Seth finds her and won't leave her alone. But she is still angry with him, and ignores him when he tries to talk to her.

This was a lovely novella! Fans of angel books will love it!

First, I read the prequel because I was dumb and didn't read the sentence " It is meant to be read after Fall For Me, although it can be read first..." which K.A. Last posted on Goodreads. I guess it would have been better to do so. Because Seth's behavior in the novel was a bit confusing to me after having read the prequel already.

In the prequel, Seth and Grace are angels on a mission in England. They are working for the council, a heavenly institution which indirectly tries to manipulate some happenings on Earth. But Seth has feelings for his old friend Grace that angels just shouldn't have. And he doesn't know how to deal with them. Then, he makes a difficult decision.

In my opinion the content summary gives away too much. It basically summarizes the complete prequel in a few sentences. It was interesting to read about their life in heaven and what they used to do on their missions. So, I would recommend to everyone to follow the author's advice and start with Fall For Me.
Nevertheless, this prequel totally makes sense to understand all aspects of Last's series and the plot of Fall For Me. Everyone who has read the novel will definitely want to know more about Seth and Grave's history.

I picked this up to read as a prequel to the book "Fall For Me" which im reading on behalf of a book tour.

Its not a necessity, but i have to say, it does help give you a totally different view when you begin the first book (this is 0.5 so just before book 1).

As its a novella, its short, and is broke up into 2 sections - one we follow Seth, the other we follow Grace.

These are 2 angels who are best friends and go on missions to Earth always together.
Seth is head over heels in love with Grace, but its totally against the rules in heaven to be in love. He cant deal with facing Grace all the time, so he renounces heaven and tumbles....a fallen angel.

Grace of course, is devestated and has no idea why Seth would do this and says will never forgive him EVER.

To try and get over him, Grace goes on one heck of a mission that is indefinite and rather than being an observer, she is actually one of the girls she needs to be to make sure the lineage of vampire hunters stays safe.

like i say, its not necessary to read this, but i found it gave me a totally different view of their relationship when i started the first book.

Would recommend it if you want to get the full picture!

A copy of this prequel was given to me in exchange for a fair and unbiased review by the lovely group, Lovers of Paranormal.
After reading K.A. Last's Fall for Me recently, and thoroughly enjoying it, I was excited to see that she had released a prequel and it was up for grabs in my group. After reading Fall for Me, I definitely craved more information about Grace and Seth. The purpose of this book is to give a little background on how they got to the point in their relationship they are at when you pick up in Fall for Me. Personally, it wasn't quite as satisfying as Fall for Me because the romance wasn't as present but I did enjoy this book. It helped me to understand why Grace would want to throw herself into the position she's in to be constantly reborn as the guardian of many generations of vampire hunters.
The only thing that may have made my reading experience a more pleasant one would be to include a little more about Seth's experiences after he landed as well.
All in all, this will be a good read if you enjoyed Fall for Me and I do recommend it.

Sacrifice is a short Novella that is to be read after Fall For Me for so many reasons. One is that it gives us the history of Grace and Seth and it is told from Seth's POV which was an added bonus and secondly you get to see what happens when true love takes over and the heart wants what it wants and no matter what the consequences are Seth is willing to sacrifice everything to be with the one he wants.

See love between two angels is forbidden. But what happens when you can't help but love who you love? Will Seth leave it all behind to be with Grace? Will Grace let him do that? Will the two of them find a way to be together?

I have to say that this is a series to watch out for because K.A. has a way with writing and her world is so mesmerizing it will leave you breathless and speechless and wanting more. I know I did and I know I am not alone in this conclusion. So come along for the best ride of your life and read about Seth and Grace and the gang!

Although this is officially the 'prequel' to Fall For Me I did consider the warning on Goodreads and actually read Sacrifice after the full story. I am glad I did because I think had I read it previously it would have made no sense as Grace and Seth would have been strangers to be, as would their relationship. I feel Sacrifice would work better if labelled a '1.5' sequel.
In this novella the reader discovers the depth of Seth's feelings for Grace and his plans to fall after their mission. K A Last shows the reader the significance of the pair's final mission together, and while I feel it is important we witness Seth's softer side, the reader also sees grace's anger and reluctance to conform, triggered by the hurt caused by Seth's disappearance.
I would not say reading Sacrifice is essential to the overall story, but it does allow a greater insight into K A Last's characters and plot.
