Earth as we know it no longer exists. Humanity has destroyed itself and with it any chance we may have had of returning.

Earth in the future:

What had started as a six month voyage through the stars becomes a nightmare when the passengers are stranded in space without hope.
The world ended in fire.

It ended in an inferno of its own greed and stupidity.
With Earth gone, the crew and passengers of The Dawn Light are left wandering the galaxy in search of a new planet. After years of searching, one is found.

No one is prepared for the terror that takes claim of the Galaxy Cruiser when one by one the people begin to turn, mutating into flesh eating monsters.

For Scarlett, Hunter and Rolf, this means being trapped in a sardine can full of piranhas. Their only hope... to get the hell out before they’re next, but someone on the ship wants to be the only survivor to reach the new planet and will do anything to stop them. But just how far are they willing to go?

Death no longer has a limit.

“You’re not cursed,” he said at last.
“Did the world end on your birthday, too?” she only half teased.
He made a sound that could have passed for a chuckle. “But we also found a new home on your birthday.”
She didn’t know what to say to that.

This book was mostly good...... I'm still not sure how I feel about the book's heroine (lots of damsel in distress). There were parts of this story that I really enjoyed, and others that just didn't work for me. As a whole, I still enjoyed it enough to keep going. While this wasn't a homerun for me, I'm still invested enough in the story that I will more than likely read book 2.

This was a tightly-written, edge-of-your-seat genre mash-up that includes romance, sci-fi, zombie, action-suspense, post-apocalyptic and dystopian elements. The main characters are older teens, so it falls in the young adult category. The beginning hooked me, with brave coming-of-age characters. At times, Scarlett is a bit of a ninny, and Rolf is surprisingly stodgy for a 19-year-old stud. However, the civilization on the luxury space-liner turned tin can of the remnants of humanity was engrossing. Very quickly and suddenly the period of meeting and establishing the main characters turns to non-stop zombie horror with a mix of intrigue. This book was supremely entertaining, and I kept quickly turning pages, until bam!, no more story. A climactic event takes place at the end. A new, adventurous chapter is about to start, there is no feeling of closure, and no more story. Since I am reading this 21-months after the publication, I am not sure there is another book coming. A quick survey of the author's website shows high activity on other books/series, but I don't know if the continuation of this story is forthcoming or not. That exact question on the goodreads author page has gone unanswered for a year. If any goodreads friends know the answer to this, please give an update! Thanks.

First I'd just like to say thank you to Mrs. Phoenix for providing me with an ARC copy of When Night Falls in exchange for an honest review.
I'd also like to say this review does contain a few spoilers.

When Night Falls is one of the best sci-fy paranormal thrillers that I have read in a long time and one of my favorite reads this year so far.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat from page one until the end.
Mrs. Phoenix is one of my all time favorite authors. I've read everything she's ever put out and loved every word! She's one of those authors that never stops surprising her readers with the stories she puts out. I for one am amazed at the worlds she creates and the stories she weaves.

When Night Falls is not your typical dystopian zombie apocalypse story. The earth is gone. 7,000 remain in space. And now that there is hope of a new world within their grasp an infection hits. With nowhere to run the only thing anyone can do is fight and survive. The action in this book kept my heart pounding through the whole story. But the best part of any story written by Mrs. Phoenix is the swoon worthy love story that is woven throughout and above all of the chaos happening. Scarlett and Rolf are so starcrossed abut perfect for each other. I enjoyed watching their relationship unfold. I loved Hunter he is the perfect best friend. Kiera annoyed the hell out of me but she's one of those characters that I feel will evolve into a very likable girl in books to come and i'm really hoping there are more books to come. This has been one of my books to read this year and in my opinion should be on everyones to-be-read list.

Here are two of my favorite snipits of the book:

Scarlett to Kiera:

"I lost my Family!" she snarled into the girl's stunned expression. "I lost my home and my friends. I would give anything to have them back, even for a day. But I'll be damned if I let some spoiled, two bit, little bitch disparage my momory of them. The next time you open your mouth, you better think very carefully on what comes out, or i will cut out your tounge."

Scarlett and rolf:

Drawing back, she kissed him. It was rash and impulsive and no doubt a very stupid mistake, but common sense no longer had control over her. She couldn't think beyond the wild drumming of elation and relief coursing through her, fueling the desperate need to be as close as humanly possible to the man crushing her in his arms. Ather back, his hands fisted in her top as he returned the frenzied and reckless kiss. His hunger drove her to push harder for more. Her finger curled into his hair and held him to her as the world around them melted and vanished.

(i still love you Airicka, but seriously :| <= SERIOUSLY?!)

How can one person be so cruel? Why do you like to torture us Airicka? *grumbles...* fine lets get on with the review.

Song Choice: "Guilty Kisses" by Ilya - yeah only one sorry but its an eight minute song.

First thoughts: Holy fudgers, ugh THIS was...just THIS! Amazing doesn't seem to cover it. I normally eat up Airicka's books, I devoured this. Heart-racing, hands sweating, sitting on the edge of my seat, fighting sleep, that is what this book was. Prepare yourselves....I dare might even say...this might be my favorite Airicka book. Touching Eternity and When Night Falls are tied. And if you know me, I would have a baby with Touching Eternity I loved it so much. This was explosive. So amazing

Thoughts on Plot:

Now it was never confirmed that is what they were, but when something wants flesh for nom noms, I usually go with Zombies. IN SPACE! Sounds almost corny doesn't it? It isn't i promise! This was spectular. Though i was very curious about the world that was "left" behind originally, and they couldn't return to for reasons... i am not trying to be purposefully vague but I don't even think I read the blurb to this, I just dove in. I highly recommend that too. ;) So back to the world that was left behind, I was curious about it, because we are obviously in the future, but idk I was a little I guess feeling left behind. Like i was missing a pieces of the puzzle for awhile, but they did start revealing more stuff as the plot went on. But this is what I can say, this was an adventure, terrifying, fun, and oh so sexy ;) I mean, Airicka always has a man for us. I got that, I don't feel right about this feeling a lot. Good thing too, trust your instincts my friends!!! So I didn't know when starting this it was going to be a series (should I have been surprised? Nope. Not at all ;) Airicka's ideas a HUGE, and when I say huge, I mean massively huge, and can only be expressed in a series. I am not complaining AT ALL). Anyways moving on, so I guess this book could be broken up almost in three pieces. The beginning, all is good, we learn a little more about life before (not a whole lot) because we are learning about life for them now, then the middle-ish when things start getting WAY INTENSE, and problems are happening, then the end where we start to get some results...or do we? Idk you will have to find out ;) Seriously though, God i can't get over how much i loved this. i HIGHLY recommend it, even if you aren't a huge sci-fi fan i think you will enjoy this.

^^ my face after finishing this.

This too:

XD

SO.DAMN.AMAZING.

Thoughts on Characters:

Scarlett: I really, really liked her. She was different from most of Airicka's MC's while I enjoy the other ladies and I do, she wasn't as abrasive in my opinion, she felt softer, a bit quieter and there is nothing wrong with that. i think she is smarter than she thinks, and I think she is one of those quiet observers that things started to click for her without her even realizing it. I think she has the capacity to figure everything out in time. I really enjoyed though that while she was afraid, she was willing to fight and survive.

Rolf: *mmeeeoooow* I don't know what it is, but maybe Canada is just full of these super smexy men that Airicka (and a few other Canadian authors I know) are hoardering all for themselves! Orrrr Airicka's husbands like ridiculously swoon worthy......well this just got awkward....moving on! Rolf was in my opinion a character that needed some growing up to do, and he did, thank goodness. I mean he was silent and sexy but he had a few (a lot) of skeletons in the closet and he took forever to come clean and become his own man, but when he did, boy did he....kinda wish this was a Morgana book, I'd love to see what he was....okay i am getting awkward again im going to stop. ;)

Hunter: I think I got it now. I think i got it. I do. Anyways good best friend, good supporting-ness. :)

The ending:

Ms Phoenix has done it again. This book was out of this world (pun intended :P) and I could not get enough of it. A spectacular adventure that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

When Night Falls follows Scarlett and her friends. They are among a few thousand that are the only survivors after Earth was destroyed. Floating through space, they hope to one day find another planet to call home.
I loved the array of characters in this book. Scarlett is different to Airicka's other heroins. She is more quite, not as snarky. But I still really liked her. She is a great fighter and has a good head on her. Her friend Hunter I adored! He is like the ultimate best friend. The relationship between these two is something to envy. Rolf, the love interest, holy wow. As you all know, Airicka creates some droll-worthy leading men and Rolf was no exception. He was just yum. I loved watching the relationship between him and Scarlett grow. Another character that I grew a soft spot for was Mac. He was such a sweetie. One character I had no love for was Kiera. I really did not like that girl but goddamn Airicka for making me feel sorry for her when we got a bit of her back-story near the end of the book. I was all happy to hate her. I still don't like her but now I feel sorry for her.

The story itself was very fast-paced. Jam-packed with action, I wasn't bored for even a second. A word of warning. This book is not for the faint hearted. Gory doesn't even begin to cover it. I was kept up at night not just because I was hooked but because this book was gonna give me nightmares! Like seriously, Airicka does not sugar coat the blood and violence. So you've been warned. You might want to read this book with all the lights on. This book also really got to me in the sense that I felt so claustrophobic while reading it. These people are in space! They had no where to hide and I was freaking out over this!

So overall this book was just all kinds of awesome. The 100 meets The Walking Dead, When Night Falls is a heart-pounding thrill ride that will stay with you long after you have turned the last page. I cannot wait for book 2!

Well - what can I say about this hot release by Ms. Phoenix? Oh...my...wow...

Now - it's no secret that I'm a HUGE Airicka fan, and I do have to say, in all honesty....this book is one of my favorites by her!

I'm a sucker for anything that's highlighting struggles and circumstances when the world is either close to the end, potentially at the end. or at the end...so When Night Falls is right up my alley.

When Night Falls is the story of Scarlett. Sent on a trip on the ship "The Dawn Light" only to find it her permanent home as the Earth is literally destroyed leaving her with only her Grandmother and her best friend, Hunter to be with.

Life on The Dawn Light is extremely controlled and supplies are running short. The push to find a new planet to inhabit is on. When one is spotted and things seem like they're going to move forward something crazy happens. Some of the inhabitants of The Dawn Light turn into crazy undead zombies!! Yeah - I know right?!!

What follows is a series of events that will literally leave you on the edge of your seat wondering if Scarlett and her crew are going to make it on alive.

Now - I did mention that this is an Airicka book, right? So, of course, I have to mention the OH SO FREAKIN TASTY DELICIOUS SEXY-AS-HELL Airicka book boy....Rolf. SWOON....Oh my my my - this boy gives all of Airicka's book boys a run for their money. Desirable, sexy, sweet, with a hint of mysteriousness - yeah, I was hooked from minute one.

Airicka outdoes herself with the supporting cast of this story. Hunter - man, oh man, I love Hunter. He is that guy that any girl would want as a best friend!! Always looking out for "Red" - trust me, you'll see what I mean.

And of course - there's "THAT" girl....the one that we all love to hate. Kiera. In all of her "I'm so much better than you and you're not deserving enough to be in my presence" glory....there honestly really wasn't a moment that I "felt sorry" for Miss Princess.

A great balance of character, story, and that feeling of "WOW - this really COULD happen..."

Five amazing stars - two thumbs up - the works!!!

Airicka had two men vying for my affection in this book Hunter who was just a little flirt, "yes, sir." Hunter broke communication turned to Scarlett. He grinned. "Looks like I have the rest of the day off. You know what that means." Then there was Rolf and once I met Rolf Hunter was just out of the picture. Rolf I loved him, "will you meet me tonight?" His face hovered inches from hers. She should say no. She should tell him to go back to his girlfriend, but again she couldn't. She needed him as much as he needed her." I know what you're thinking Rolf is another a** that cheats on his girlfriend and there's going to be a big ole' love triangle but honestly there wasn't so those of you who dislike those two factors in a book can rest assured. I loved how tender he was when he was with Scarlett though, "tender hands rested on her hips. She was drawn back into a broad chest. "It's all clear," he murmured into the back of her head. "It's just us here." She leaned into him and was rewarded with a light kiss to the side of her head. He lowered his head and his face nestled the curve of her neck." A lot of people know I focus on the romance of books but with this one Airicka made it so I focused on the action and what was going on around these two characters, which is a good thing. What wasn't a good thing was that damn cliffhanger she decided to spring on us although I'm not really mad at that as long as my two characters were in a place that I wanted which they were.

Ok so I didn't realize this was a bit of a scary book. I'm a bit of a chicken when it comes to scary but I stuck it out and braved my way through. I am so glad I did. This was an amazing book. Seriously edge of my seat, wet my pants fan-freaking tastic. Yes, there were scary un-dead things walking around trying to kill everyone but hey! it can't all be roses and sunshine right?

This book was set way in the future. Earth was destroyed and a ship of about 7 thousand people were the last survivors. Forced to roam the universe in a ship meant to only be gone a few months, now going on years, they are forced to live with the barest of necessities. Gone was the high society and middle class. Everyone was now an equal and everyone was desperate to find a place to land and make a new home.

I fell in love with this story right away. It was full of suspense, action, and so much loss. It was heart breaking at times and other times just made me blush. How these people found love in a horrible situation and other times it was just so hot. *fans herself..

Ok, I love all things Airicka Phoenix and she amazed me even more with this crazy world she built. She created hope in her characters when there seemed to be none. She made me want them all to find it too. You will be thrown in to every page and swept away in each of their lives just like I was. Wow! Just Wow!

Man oh man looks can be deceiving. I have never or will never read a blurb that will teach me. This book was AMAZING! I typically will never read any book in the sci fi or fantasy genre but that's not what this is. I feel it is dystopian with my fav thrown in ZOMBIES yes you heard me right the dead walk the ship. I highly recommend this book if you like that concept alone or if you love dystopian genre. Airicka did a fabulous job keeping me engaged and unable to put down. The only downside I think it needed to be about 900 pages so I could devour more. I certainly can't wait for book 2 and let me tell you things are not always how they seem twists and turns sneak up on you. I received a advanced copy in exchange for a honest and unbiased review. This is a must have on your TBR.

When Night Falls(Regeneration Series)by Airicka Phoenix

I like a good science fiction and I can take or leave a horror and even tolerate a romance now and then. So this book seems to be a sort of teasy treat that tries to combine all three and include a bit of suspense. I can give it high marks for entertaining but not the highest. I can't give it 3.5 so I have gone with 4 and will be brutally honest about why its not a 5.

This starts out strong with a spaceship full of the last survivors of a self destructed earth. It reminded me of Poul Anderson's After Doomsday, but within a few pages that comparison fell apart which was a bit of a shame. We move quickly into the romance and angsty romance at that.

It might be the romance that spoiled this, but only because it seemed like a trope here and rather than enhancing the development of the character I felt it hindered. We start out with two couples Scarlett and Hunter; and RolfGray and Kiera. But as it develops we discover that Scarlett and Hunter are not really a couple; though I felt it confusing at first, yet some how clear that Hunter might prefer men over women. The confusion might be deliberate because at first Hunter comes off as the somewhat laid back but still capable of being jealous boyfriend. Later it becomes clearer that he might just dislike Rolf, though his protest seem more in line with not liking Scarlett getting into the middle of what he perceives as a couple; in RolfGray and Kiera. [This might be Rolf Gray but in my edition it always shows as RolfGray]

As the story develops we discover there is a slowly percolating relationship between Scarlett and Rolf. It started from their first meeting as they boarded the ship long ago and grew stronger because of an incident that occurred after they discovered Earth was dead. I will leave it to others to read the novel to discover this. What concerns me is that in part this relationship and the people involved are what drag things down a bit for me. I like a story that has good characterization and this story had potential for that, but I kept feeling it was falling short and in some cases confusing me. By this I mean that though I can understand the fault of the characters having crossed up relationships; I would have like to have seen some evidence of growth or understanding and or growth of understanding. That said; they are young people still so we need to cut a bit of slack and realize that the angst could look just as real as it looks like a trope.

I don't mind tropes as long as they don't drive the story and for a while these do.

This novel lacks any real strong characters. And though we do get introduced to the horror[some zombie-fy-ing virus], we don't get introduced to the real evil until very close to the end; so the novel has to rely on the protagonists and they all come off pretty weak to me. They do have their moments and though Rolf does shine as a leader he often drops the ball. Scarlett could have been an awesome kick evil protagonist if she didn't seem to get so weak at the knee's around Rolf. But the weakest thing was the complicated relationship between Rolf and Kiera, which seemed to exist only for the sole purpose to allow time for Hunter to spout recriminations at Scarlett and for Scarlett to angst over while beating herself up.

The tropes themselves were not as much the problem as the fact that they were necessary to drive some of the plot and develop the characters. And for me as character development they all fell short. I think they could be mentioned, but then would have been better shoved off in the background. Again; for me the angsty love scenes hurt more than helped. The whole whinny Hunter friendship jealousy thing was too far off for me and didn't help though I could see that it adds to the tension. In the same token the clingy needy and sometime sulky nature of Kiera in her relationship, though adding tension, did less to help. When certain points resolve around these characters the nature of Hunter's and Kiera's relationships to Scarlett and Rolf almost make less sense to me, but that could just be me and I think the reader would have to make their own judgement on this. So you should read it and see.

The plot, and there is a plot that drives the story, is another redeeming feature. I was pleasantly pleased with the twists and even comfortable with the ending of this as the first part of a series. The entire novel is written well with only a handful of grammatical problems that shouldn't hamper the average reader's enjoyment. I think with the strong start and the twisty plot this could easily have been a five for me had there been less emphasis on tropes and more on strengthening the characters. As it is I would give it a 3.5 star but in lieu of that it's a 4 that could be a 5.

For readers who like zombie stories that have a plot that doesn't devolve into a gore fest and who like a bit of light Sci Fi in the mix with a dash of romance this should make an easy enjoyable read. If you can get past the tropes or maybe even discover that I'm overreacting to my own perceptions of trope you should read this and let me know.

5*s
My initial thoughts on finishing ‘When Night Falls’ was – man, this needs to be made into a movie!
Our main character is a 17yr old girl called Scarlett and like many of the several thousand souls on the cruise space ship –The Dawn Light- had lost her family to Earths destruction but at least her Grandmother was with her and her best friend Hunter so she had a semblance of family left. She carries a lot of guilt for surviving –again like most on the ship- and every year on her birthday, the anniversary of Earths demise, she goes somewhere to be alone; to remember them all and it’s on this day every year that a young man joins her, a strong man, a marshal and someone it seems every girl has her eye on; but he’s very taken. Never the less, they share this moment every year, never speaking but sharing the connection, the guilt and the remembrance. Only this year is different, this year the young man – Rolf – approaches her in public, tries to interact with her, be her friend – but why? Scarlett can’t help the blossom of hope that arises because of his actions but then their world is thrust into danger. After discovering a new planet that could possibly host life again, hope is renewed; people begin to feel that finally, they have a chance….. until they all start dropping like flies to a mysterious illness, an illness that turns them into flesh eating monsters and the those who aren’t infected are the hunted! Did they really get so close to building a new world to have it all thwarted at the final step? Surely there is hope….. but only if they fight!

I’m not a dystopian fan, I will tell you that straight up but I liked this because it was a different kind of dystopian, it was a sci-fi dystopian with space travel instead of barren wasteland travel. There was no hiding in derelict houses, rummaging for food, travelling to a destination rumoured to be full of survivors because the survivors were all here, on the ship and it was self-sustaining in energy & food, so that when the threat came – there was nowhere to run, you were stuck right in the thick of the action and fighting was the only option. I was easily invested in our characters lives, it wasn’t hard to feel the bleakness of their situation; on one hand, they’re all glad to be alive and to have survived, yes their situation is becoming all about survival after 3 years aboard but on the other; they all have survivors guilt, things are looking bleak, supplies are dwindling, morale is low and they’re all that’s left of humanity. You can feel the hope when a new planet is found and it’s all hands on deck whether it feels right or not…. Only that’s when disaster strikes and people start mutating, turning on their friends & family, leaving a small number of uninfected trying to survive and make their way to safety. It’s not a simple cut and dried story of zombies taking over the ship though, there are twists and turns along the way in both the zombie situation and personal lives giving us a wide range of feelings and risks. The action when fighting the zombies is awesome! The atmosphere created during these scenes is palpable as we feel the fear, the anxiety, the panic – as the fight for their lives is upon them and we are left wondering who will survive – it was just Wow! Exciting, atmospheric, action packed, original and totally keeps you on the edge of your seat with your heart in your mouth, it even manages to get a little sprinkling of romance and I couldn’t put it down, I read it in one sitting and I’m already looking forward to book two.

Scarlet and her best friend Hunter were lucky that Scarlet’s grandmother was hired and had 2 extra tickets to go on the maiden voyage of the space-cruise ship for six months. While out in space for one month, on Scarlet’s birthday, they hear that earth has been destroyed by nuclear weapons and they are the last humans left. Three years later, the people of the space-cruise ship have tried to make a new life for themselves onboard. When a new planet is discovered that may be habitable, the real trouble starts.

Oh my God, I love this book! I am mentally doing a fan girl squeal right now and through most of the book too. I am a huge Airicka Phoenix fan, so I went into this book with high expectations, and it did not fail! What is not to love though? Futuristic society? Check. Space travel? Check. Zombies? Check. Survival and plenty of action? Check. Hot Alpha male protector? Double check. The book spends most of its time in the survival/fight zombies part, which was fast paced, stressful, gory, and amazing! I read this book in one sitting and loved every moment.

Scarlet was a complicated character. She had so much angst and sorrow over outliving her parents, blaming herself when she had nothing to do with it. And her feelings for Rolf were so intense, yet she would never act on it. It seemed there was so much miscommunication between the two of them, at times I just wanted to shake Scarlet and have her tell Rolf that Hunter is not her boyfriend, but all she ever said is “he is important to me” and “I love him”. And yes, both those things are true, but they led to further emotional grief. She was surrounded by people, but was so lonely. The only person who really knew her she couldn’t have.

Rolf was really dreamy. Yes he had prior commitments to Kiera, but come on man! He always seemed to swoop in to save the day for Scarlet, even when she thought she would not see him again. When it came to his past reveal, I feel like he kind of chickened out a little when it came to embracing his new future. He would protect Scarlet with his life, but could never give her the affection she wanted. At the end of the book, I wanted him to turn caveman and steal Scarlet away for some “bonding time”, but I guess I can wait for that to happen next book (hopefully!).

The secondary characters were so well defined, that I got a good sense of who they are. Hunter is kind of self involved, looking out for his own pleasure, but he tried to be a good friend to Scarlet and he is crazy smart. Kiera was terrible at the start of the story, but by the end I kind of liked her regardless of her jerkiness. What you see is exactly what you get with her; she is a pretty little fluff who has one goal in mind. And Mac, he was pretty dreamy and sweet. If Rolf hadn’t been in the picture, Scarlet totally should have gone for him.

For me, the book was just that good. I read it as an eBook and it said it was only like 185 pages, which concerned me that I was not getting a complete story, but it most certainly was. Everything was so well described and detailed, especially characters, which is my favorite part of a book. Seriously, my only complaint is that I don’t know when the next book will come out, and I have so many questions! The twist at the ending was shocking, I never saw it coming I have become invested in these people and I have worry now for their wellbeing.

I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

**ARC review, with great thanks to the author!**

I seriously don’t know how she keeps doing it. Airicka Phoenix now turns to the sci-fi/paranormal romance genre and again gives us a totally sensational story that kept me glued to my Kindle app while I read it straight through. You want action? Romantic tension? Zombies? You’ll get that and a whole lot more in this fantastic thriller that you won’t be able to put down.

First, the characters. I love that Scarlett is a strong, loyal female character, willing to put herself in danger to save her friends. And Hunter and Rolf…it’s hard to decide between them. Both are tough, protective and just plain perfect; Hunter with his upbeat, outgoing style and Rolf with his quiet, supportive demeanor. Though the choice becomes very clear about 75% into the story ;-)

Then there’s the writing. Everything flows so well and is written to totally engross you in the story to the point that you’ll look up for a moment and suddenly realize a huge chunk of time has just flown by. The action and suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

And of course, the story itself. This is only the second zombie book I’ve read, and I thought the sci-fi aspect put a great spin on it. If you couldn’t already tell from the rest of my review, it grabbed and kept my interest the whole way through. It does end on a whopper of a cliffhanger, and you can bet I’ll be counting the days until I can get my hands on the next of this series—I just HAVE to find out what’s next!

I’d say 14+ for the language and violence/zombie gore for this remarkable 5-star read that you’re sure to enjoy, especially if you’re a sci-fi, paranormal or zombie fan! And just as an aside-I can totally see this being perfect for the screen-big or small.

Another round of golf clapping!

I loved the amount of drama that went into this story. There was something from every corner, jumping out at you, figuratively and literally. You have not one, but TWO, apocalyptic theories. And may I be the first to let you know, I am pretty much OBSESSED with anything that is Zombie, so this one was a pleasure.

Disaster number one, the earth is no more. Destroyed in a ball of massive fire, no life of any kind left behind. A small amount of human life was sustained on The Dawn Light, a galaxy cruiser that was supposed to be on a six month voyage, leaving Scarlet, Hunter, and Rolf (and a few other interesting people:)) to fend for themselves.

Scarlet and Rolf have a connection. Something neither of them can explain or will admit to even themselves. Until one day that attraction drew them together. Just in the nick of time too! Because now they are running from a new threat.

Disaster number two! A strain of bacteria has turned people on The Dawn Light into man eating ZOMBIES! They have to rely on each other to try and get off the ship alive. Along the way, they try to fight their feelings for one another, ONLY TO FAIL MISERABLY! Yesssssss! This story had me laughing and then nibbling on my fingertips waiting to see what happens next.

Then there was the Epilogue... Yea, you know. (Yes, I am giving you THE look) Thanks a lot! Though I may have had some suspicions. :0 Cant wait for the continuation!

Warning! This book is not okay to read while camping in the middle of the woods, in the middle of the night, when you're the only one awake.

Morgana did it again! I could not put this book down and even thought about it while I wasn't reading it. I'm not a huge Sci-Fi fan, but I have added this to my favorites as I loved it that much.

Scarlett is a strong character. She's been through so much and her losses are horrendous! I don't know how she survives...except that she has Rolf and Hunter.

I loved Hunter. I always had best friends that were guys when I was growing up. He's the perfect best friend. I loved how he was with her, so protective. And the playful banter the two of them have between each other was the best. Very entertaining.

Rolf...so much I can say about him, but most of them are synomyms for hot, gorgeous, sexy...need I go on? He's quiet, but intense. I love that he kept telling Scarlett he'd die for her without having to be asked. And each reunion was bittersweet.

This book has a bit of romance slipped into the middle of a ton of scary, nail biting chaos. The only thing I disliked? Was the cliffhanger at the end. It left me wanting more and impatient, lol. Great job, Morgana. I can't wait for more of this ride!

Recommend to others: Absolutely
Appropriate for 14 and under: maybe 16+
Sexual content and language: mild and mediocre

It's no surprise that Airicka has done it yet AGAIN!!
What has she done you ask? Made me stay up way past my bedtime to devour this book into the wee early hours. I got maybe 4 hours of sleep that night. It was definitely worth the dark circles under my eyes.

A certain amount of people were given tickets board a ship in outer space to live for 6 months. However, it isn't only 6 months. Who knows how long they will be up there for, considering that where Earth was, no longer is.

After months and months of trying to find somewhere else to land, one that a human can withstand, the new Captain has declared land. Although, in order to make sure that everyone is protected against all viruses, one needs a vaccination right?

Right.

Life is over as you know it.
Will you make it out alive?
Who can you trust?

I must say that I love the friendships between Scarlet and Hunter. A true platonic friendship. Plus well Hunter has some other sights his eyes are set on.
Rolf and Scarlet need to happen. I hope they happen. Although that Biznatch Kiera is always in the way. But they have their own battles to overcome before that even is a remote possibility.

A touch of romance, a good bit of nail biting suspense, and a rush to hurry and flick through those pages. A def must read, I fully recommend it!!

When Night Falls by Airicka Phoenix is a YA sci-fi dystopian story. It takes place in the future and Earth has been destroyed. The last remaining humans are those who were lucky enough to be on a space cruise when Earth was destroyed. The last survivors are stuck on the space cruise ship and are searching for a new planet. They find a new planet but before they get to there, people on the space cruise start turning into terrible infected monsters.
The story is action-packed and a roller coaster ride of twists and turns. This story has everything - romance, true friendship, creepy moments, blood & guts, and action.
The characters are wonderful. Scarlett is a great heroine. She is innocent and kind but also brave and willing to do anything for the people she cares about. Rolf is yummy!! He's strong and confident and protective...perfect book boyfriend material. Hunter is adorable - such a great best friend for Scarlett. And Kiera is the girl that you just have to hate. I must admit there were times that I wish she had been sacrificed to the monsters.
You'll notice that I keep saying monsters and I'm sure other reviews are going to use the "z" word. But I hate Zombies and I don't normally like zombie books or movies. Since I LOVED When Night Falls, I'm refusing to admit that they are zombies...LOL

Another excellent read from Airicka Phoenix. I loved this book. It was an awesome mix of romance, sci-fi, dysotopian and suspense/mystery. This is the first time I've read a dysotopian or sci-fi type book from this author and I think she pulled it off well. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the last of humanity survives on a single spaceship after nuclear war destroyed the earth. The passengers are now condemned to a lonely exile in space until they can find a new planet to call home. Aboard the ship is a young girl named Scarlett, a curious but unremarkable girl who is doing her best to live on a spaceship and deal with the loss of her family on Earth. The only complicated part of her life is Rolf. The good-looking guy who seems to share some of her sorrow and understands how she feels. The guys she really likes. The guy who is taken and she can't have. All of that falls apart for her when a habitable planet is discovered and half the passengers suddenly turn into flesh-eating zombies. As Scarlett and her friends struggle to stay alive, they discover more and more mysterious things about the ship and uncover secrets that hidden by those in charge. I won't say anything else except to say that the rest of the story is awesome and that you should definitely read it! I can't wait until the next book in this new series comes out.

This YA/Dystopian novel was absolutely awesome! I could not get enough of it! When Night Falls is one edge of your seat thrill ride that ended way to soon! I loved this story there was so much going on that getting bored with this book was not even possible! Scarlett, Hunter, and Rolf were amazing characters that I was completely caught up in their world! I had so many parts of the story that I loved hate! These people have no idea what they are in for as they start to picked off becoming flesh eating monsters so many die and the monsters are "dealt" with. As Scarlett Rolf, and Hunter get closer to discovering the truth they are thrown off course. Excuses are made and they are left with no choice but to believe it as truth but Scarlett isn't so easily persuaded but keeps her doubts to herself for fear of what may happen to her. When Night Falls is one of the best dystopian reads I have read. I am excited for the next book so I can find out the truth myself! Airicka Phoenix has once again showed me why I love her books so much I will be a fan for a long time to come!

Shocking, intense, & full of awesome!
I am a huge fan of Airicka Phoenix, & I've anticipated reading this ever since I read the description. As always I adore Airicka's characters & witty comments, but other than the mad story telling skills When Night Falls is nothing like her other works. She takes what we believe to be a sci-fi fantasy to a dystopian zombie filled level. Yes even after reading the blurb I was still caught off guard. Not a bad thing, I enjoy being surprised, but I seriously never saw a few of those twists coming. Think Star Trek: Voyager meets Red Dawn with a Survivor: Zombie Apocalypse Edition added in. What begins tugging the heart strings a bit soon thrusts us into an intense action-packed fight for survival. The question remains WHO SHOULD YOU TRUST TO SURVIVE?
I can not wait to get my hands on a sequel to this book!! There are so many plausible outcomes for their future!

So to say Airicka has impressed me again may be a tad bit of an understatement. Why do I say that? Well along with a gripping story line,a few hotties, and almost nonstop action, she has single~handedly pulled me out of my comfort zone and wrote a story that I can read eventhough it consists of two components I'm not usually inclined to read. I can watch in out space/on spaceship movies all day long but when it comes to reading that normally does not hold my interest. Now let's talk zombies,I am not a fan of zombies books or movies/t.v. shows with zombies except for Resident Evil and Warm Bodies.Yes I know it's weird to only be able to watch those two but that's just how my brain works I guess. So I am applauding this author for her amazing work of writing a story that I can read despite my hangups on those two things.

Airicka Phoenix has another winning series. I was glued to the pages of this book from 1st page to last and I don't even care that I have to get book 2 to continue.

The devious plot is awesome. Can't tell you more . . . it would spoil the experience. I love Hunter, Scarlet, Penn, Jack, Mac, even the irritating Kiera. . . . all the characters in this book have life. Three dimensional and interesting. Imagine what you might do if you took a 6 month cruise into space and then your world literally shattered. 7000 people left to the human race and then the unthinkable happens.

Awesome, exciting, cannot put down until you finish book.

I received this book free for an honest review and I can tell you honestly that this book is awesome. I will be buying every book in this series.

I loved this book!! I didn't think that I would enjoy it as much as I did, but it was so good! It was definitely Sci-fi Dystopian, but even if that isn't your cup of tea, don't let that put you off! I'm not into Sci-fi at all and like I've said before, I'm still totally a fan. I loved the bond between the best friends, I loved the bit of romance, I loved the mystery of the ship, I definitely loved the plot twist, and man, that epilogue!! I had a feeling that all wasn't what we thought... I can't wait to find out what happens next!

I was given an ARC of this book by the author in exchange for an unbiased and honest review

Wow what another spectacular read from Ms Phoenix! This time sci- fi and I am just in love! Rolf! *sigh* and Scarlett, they are so cute! I love Hunter as well. Who doesn't want a best friend like him! I can just see this being turned into a movie. The descriptions are so vivid and clear that you feel like you are actually there with the characters (even though at times you wish you weren't because those creatures are just plain gross!). When Night Falls contains everything I love in a 5 star read and I am so pleased there is more to come!

First impressions of When Darkness Falls: a dark, Dytopian, sci-fi version of Wall-E meets Star Trek and the Walking Dead. It is freaking awesome!!! Airicka did an incredible job on a futurist sci-fi read that meets Trekky standards. There's mystery, action, gore, steam, loss and moments where I wanted to stop because it was too much. But know this: if you were a fan of Airicka's before, you will love her even more after reading this book, and if you are new to the world of Airicka Phoenix, welcome to the awesomeness. Buckle up and enjoy the ride!

Ok to start off this book was amazing if I could give it 10 stars I would. It captivated me from beginning to end in a story that was completely different from other stories I have read. I loved following Scarlett, Rolf, & all their friends through all the dangers they faced, through all the twists that you don't see coming even the ones you do see coming. This story was well written and allowed you to picture everything you read. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

I loved this and cannot wait until the next one.

I beg of the author not to destroy the beautiful characterizations within this novel. Please, please, please do not destroy Rolf, Scarlett, or Hunter. PLEASE! My heart will seriously break to love them so much in "when night falls" to have them destroyed due to the epilogue.

Really enjoyed this book. I was pleasantly surprised with it. It is a dystopia type book which is hugely popular right now. I wouldn't know how to accurately describe it. I thought of The 100 and I Am Legend while reading, only it's all taking place on a ship in space or a 'cruise' with a twist in the storyline. Would recommend.
