The Pandemonium Stocking Stuffer 2011 collects three unclassifiable short-short stories from three unclassifiable authors.
Den Patrick contributes "The Shock of the New", a stirring tale of an alternate WWI (bonus: Tesla cannons!), Archie Black is a fly on the wall at "Villainy Fair", a gathering of storybook villainnesses and Oz Vance introduces a deeply mediocre band of adventurers in "The Season".
The result? A darkly comedic mini-collection that's provides a great distraction during your holiday season.
This was a very short anthology with only three stories, but all were quite amusing. Vance's "The Season" imagines a setting where heroes on quest have specific (certified!) roles. Patrick's "The Shock of the New" is an alternate history tale of a couple WWI soldiers testing a new electric rifle. Black's "Villainy Fair" was almost the reverse of Vance's but has villainesses complaining about the patriarchy to humorous effect.
My understanding of the Stocking Stuffers that Jurassic London published (five in all) is that they're just fun little chapbooks for the end of the year with a "year in review"-type introduction, so as I continue my Jurassic London reading project, I can see how editors Perry & Shurin thought about each year's success.
