A second original story based on the popular ABC television series places Lois Lane and Clark Kent, aka Superman, at odds with one another as they attempt to out-scoop rival newspapers while keeping their relationship intact. Original. TV tie-in.
Michael Jan Friedman is an author of more than seventy books of fiction and nonfiction, half of which are in the Star Trek universe. Eleven of his titles have appeared on the New York Times Best Seller list. Friedman has also written for network and cable television and radio, and scripted nearly 200 comic books, including his original DC superhero series, the Darkstars.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It's fast-paced, interesting and reminded me a lot of the TV show.
I think I like Superman a lot better when he's not as all powerful as the comics or movies make him out to be. Also, I like how the Lois and Clark series spend as much time on Lois and Clark as they do on Superman. In my opinion, it makes him more of 3 dimensional person.
Nice read. I can't help but wonder if these Lois & Clark novels weren't stories that were scrapped because of the budget and time. ABC scored a homerun in making this TV series, but I have to admit there were few opportunities for the network to make more of a profit with merchandise, especially given over fifty years of comic books, movies, and other TV shows. This one was good, using a lesser-known comic book villain and introducing him in the series.
My guess is the ideas in the writers' studio room figured that an episode couldn't have been adapted. Finding a dwarf actor that could play the part of Killgrave would have been difficult. But it was an engaging story.
Set during Season 3 when Lois knows about his secret, Superman gets dosed with a virus that cannot kill him but it makes him a carrier that could kill people almost instantly. In many ways similar almost to the episode Super Mann where Clark is exposed to a dirty bomb, in this case, it's a deadly virus.
