After a chaotic childhood, Kit, a former street kid, found a home at Socair House in London. The only safe place he has ever known, he has made the shelter his world, staying on to help run the place long after he could have left.

When asked to spend three months in Cornwall helping to run a small medical practice, Kit is thrown into a panic at the prospect of leaving behind everything he knows to live among strangers.

He is welcomed warmly in Cornwall, and makes an immediate connection with Jude, one of the doctors in the practice. However, the past holds secrets that could ruin Kit's budding relationship with Jude, and destroy Kit's trust in everything he believes.

I've read several books by Cassidy Ryan before -- just like those, it's a nice one. I liked the fact that the kiss didn't even happen after half-page, that Jude took his time and didn't push Kit. All throughout the story, up until their first kiss, I keep chanting to myself, "Please let Kit make the first move, please let Kit make the first move".

I thought because Kit was skittish and quite ashamed with his past, and he had been in shadow (and the comfort of the shelter for quite awhile) he needed to be the one that took that first step. I enjoyed the build-up towards the relationship.

The sex part was so-so though, and I must deducted point for the use of "baby" during (MY pet peeve, people, don't smirk!!). I wasn't that impressed with the 'twist' in the end as well -- made it too soap-operaish and I wasn't in the mood for such. There was a couple of weird wordings, but I wasn't sure if it was intentional (for example this sentence "Is you sick?" ... but it was said by the 3-year-old Brody) or typos.

Best scene? When Brody (the three year old kid) found Kit and Jude on the same bed, on Jude's room...

“Did Kit have a nightmare? When I have a nightmare I sleep with mummy and daddy,” Brody replied, gaze fixed on Kit..."

Oh, yes, BEST scene!! *laugh* Be glad that Brody didn't c*ckblock you, at least, Jude :)

Ryan is a new author to me and I have to say I really enjoy her voice. This is sweet story, a short one but with some nicely fleshed out MC and secondary characters.

It's quite a simple storyline with a bit of angst and a twist near the end that came as a bit of surprise but actually worked for me.

I liked this and I'll be reading more from the author.

I wish I could say that I liked this book, but it was just ok. If I had to describe this story in one word it would be "mundane." Though the book had likable characters it didn't really have much of a plot or conflict even though one of the heroes had had a difficult life and remained with some baggage because of that.

3.5 stars - This was a lovely, lovely story. Kit was an amazing man, one who fought hard against the shadows in his life and had the courage to step into the unknown and find love and happiness. When he meets Jude, an admirable and strong man with a heart of gold, his whole world begins to change. I loved the other characters in the book as well; they each added something special to Kit's life, finally giving him the family he deserved. And even though the revelation toward the end was shocking, it signified that Kit's future was going to be an even brighter one, a future with endless love and support. Man, I wish I'd come across more books such as this one. *sighs happily*

Light on Shadow

This is a gorgeous book, sweet and hot, with a great twist at the end which I never saw coming.
Kit is a shy orphaned young man who lives in a shelter. Kit is asked to go to Devon to help out in a GP's practice, there he meets Jude a doctor at the practice. Jude is everything Kit never thought he could have, or realised he wanted.
I adored everything about this book, the characters, the story, the setting, everything was perfect. A lovely story that makes you smile as you turn the last page.

This story was emotionally well written. The story plot is warm and enjoyable till the end. Truthfully what is not to like here, we have emotionally distressed even hard parts, sweet romantic parts and at the end we get HEA. When I finished to read this story, I felt peaceful and happy for all created characters. Jude and Kit were a warm coupled pair at the end, I liked them both. Sure I admit this story is long way from perfect, because let face it, the storyline is rushed and doesn't feel complete, but I won't focus on those facts.

Kit is young and unsure of himself. When he meets Jude he is taken by the man, but he is so uncertain about everything, he has no idea what it means. Jude finds himself drawn to Kit, but has no desire to frighten the poor boy.

When Kit finally realizes what he wants, he’s going to have to confess to Jude something very few people know, and it frightens him to death. Shockingly, there are other secrets waiting that Kit may not be able to handle, and Jude cannot protect him from.

Won in a promo draw

I enjoyed this gentle love story.
Kit's past isn't so gentle and has left him with many issues, but the horrors aren't dwelt on. The story of Kit's childhood emerges slowly through the story almost as a background to his developing feelings for the gorgeous Dr Jude.
Very nicely paced, with well rounded characters and a good supporting cast. I didn't even see the final twist in the story coming, but I did appreciate the extra gloss to the happy ending.

This ticked so many of my boxes that I can forgive the few things that didn't sit quite right. And I was surprised by the twist! Usually I can see them coming a mile away!

I'd really like to read a sequel to this.

Good character development, engaging story. The second Big Reveal (the first being the secret in Kit's past) threw me for a loop, though. Was it necessary? Meh, probably not. Did it hurt anything? Meh, probably not. I would have liked a bit more follow up. The end was a bit abrupt.

I love the writing, story and characters but the immediate relationship between the main characters was completely unrealistic. You just don't go from terror to bed in a few chapters. Had that been extended, it would have been an almost perfect story.

What an amazing and incredible story. And such a twist at the end. Makes my shiver all over in a good way. I wouldn't expect anything less of this author. She is amazing!
