So Wrong

Rate this book
What they’ve started is wrong, forbidden…and it can’t be stopped.

Behind Marshall Golden’s steady, unflappable facade is a man with secrets. If any of them got out, they could permanently snap the frayed thread keeping his family together and likely send his mother back into the hospital. So he plays the role handed to him as first-born: peacekeeper, rule follower.

And if he only lowers the weight on his shoulders just long enough to get on his knees for the nameless, faceless men he pays for the privilege, then add that secret to his large pile.

Tory had big plans and none of them included having sex with strangers for money. But his world fell apart when he came out to his family. Now he’s estranged from his parents and siblings, and broke, barely making ends meet. Things can’t get worse...until he realizes the identity of the man kneeling at his feet.

Secrets?

This one is a bomb that could destroy everything and everyone both men hold dear. No one has to tell them that, but what they’ve started is wrong, forbidden…and it can’t be stopped.

A Caribbean transplant, Avril now lives in Stone Mountain, GA., with a tolerant Spousal Equivalent. Together they raise an eccentric daughter who loves reading and school (not so much school anymore). Avril’s earliest memories of reading revolve around discussing plot points of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys with an equally book-minded mother

Always in love with the written word, Avril finally decided to do the writing in August of ’09 and never looked back. Spicy love scenes, delicious heroes, and wicked women burn up the pages of Avril’s stories, but there’ll always be a happy ending; Av remains a believer of love in all its forms.

3*** stars

This rating pains me, no joke. I was super excited for this taboo romance and usually the author gives me all the intense emotions and depraved storylines. And gawd, it started out so damn freaking delicious.

And let me tell you this: the romance itself between the brothers Tory and Marshall was beautiful. I adored them.

BUT! How the story went from a certain point forward was terrible. Their father was awful and their sister was unbearable. Marshall’s and Troy’s inner thoughts were repetitive as hell and it felt like the whole writing in general took a nosedive in the second half.

To sum it up: The first half was DELICIOUS, the second just plain awful and I only wanted it to end. So I leave this book disappointed and with a bad taste. This could’ve been way better and I expected way more from Avril Ashton.

I was late to the buddy read but definitely still enjoyed this! The family dynamics were gloriously dysfunctional and the spice was blazing hot. This definitely read like a drama with incest mixed in and I loved it!

“I can explain.” Three favorite words of people who've been caught doing something that REALLY needs no explanations. Clearest shit ever and they're offering to talk you through it.

These two make it seem like they're into each other in spite of the taboo but I'd like to disagree and insist that they're also into it because of the taboo.

“I don’t wanna leave it.”(his asshole. Just to be clear)
Marshall clamped down around him. “So don’t.”

“You know who’s fucking you, don’t you? You’re riding your baby brother’s dick.”
Marshall shuddered, ass muscles going crazy.

Ass muscles going crazy. Huh.

Like.... C'MON. It's clearly part of the appeal for them.

Also, I liked the family drama. Part of the appeal with this kind of taboo is getting to see people lose their shit when they find out lol.

“No matter what happens with this—” He motioned at the bed. “—I will always be your brother.”
💀💀💀💀💀💀Well. Duh.

“You would have left with me and we both know you’re needed there.”
“Wrong.” Marshall paused. “It doesn’t matter what’s happening here,” he said, his voice lower, softer. “If you need me, I’m there. Do you need me?”

My heart. 😩I loved that at the start Marshall was the skittish one but by the end he was the immovable rock.

3.5 rounded up.

The taboo was really well done, but the second half of the story was a bit disappointing.

Honestly this book left more holes in my chest than I initially started with. This is so not what a HEA should feel like. It's practical but still yo nopeeee I don't like it one bit. Simone honestly is my favorite character cause I feel like she was the most real and the anger Marshall and Tory felt for her was misplaced though I understood and support their decisions.

This book was so deliciously dirty and wrong. It definitely won’t be for everyone. You definitely have to love the taboo, the sick, twisted and wrong and be rooting for true love to still win out, to still conquer societal norms, to buck those norms and love who you love. Embrace who you are. Tory and Marshal do that but it takes each man time before he can embrace who he is. Tory came out and was kicked out of the family, so he has a lot heartache and angst over that. Marshall, he is so deep in the closet, rooted there by obligations, and not wanting his mother to suffer. There was a lot of great steam and emotion, it wasn’t all just taboo sex, there was feelings and angst, and plenty plot to make a great journey.

This was so so good. It's so different than the usual story like this. There was no secret feelings beforehand, it was a secret encounter that went so wrong but so so so good. 🥵🥵🥵🥵

emotional and tense taboo romance
-buddy read-

Spoiler for the full story, so only click if you read it 🤝

first of all, I appreciate AA in general for writing full length cest stories, it gives more depth to the angsty factor of being in that kind of relationship, what I honestly love!
It was sometimes a bit OTT with the family drama, but I also thought it fit the narrative in some way

I loved the “surprise the escort you booked is your brother” trope!
The bribe was a surprise, I never would’ve guessed T would do it and that M would be totally fine-ish 😅

I think I missed a bit more character descriptions of both MCs especially with them having so much sex, there would’ve time to describe some more body parts than just ass&cock 🤣

I loved that women were not necessarily the “bad guys” here, even if Simone tried to push them later in the story.
it was a huge shock to find out your brothers are lovers and all, I also think it was good to see that she might be able to come around one day (even if it’s tough?)

I hated Lionel with every fiber of my soul, I never would’ve guessed he had a PI and bribed Ms ex BF to leave him.

I loved how T stood up for himself and called L out for all his bullshit and being a shit father!

It’s funny how L is basically “the reason” his sons found each other hehehe #karma

My heart broke for the kids, when the mom died, I predicted something like that at some point in the story, but I’m sad it ended with death 😞

The sex was hot, I loved how M as the bigger brother was so needy 🤌

So wrong? No, so right! Tory and Marshall can do no wrong in my eyes; beware anyone who disagrees.

“Not this delicious.
Or craven.
Not them.
But it was all of those things. It was because of them.”

Mmmm, I love their bond, their chemistry, their love for one another, and the way they won’t let anyone tell them otherwise. There’s quite a bit of family drama and some of it took me by surprise, but Marshall and Tory refuse to let anyone come between them and I adore it. These two have it all: angst, hurt/comfort, heat, tethers, and a love that cannot be denied.

4🌟

The love between Marshall and Troy was so beautiful to read, Troy was kicked out of the house when he told his family he was gay, and Marshall made an effort to reach out to him but when he saw it was fruitless he stopped. Marshall is gay but doesn't want to come out after seeing what happened to his brother, So he hides his sexuality and uses an app to sleep with men and that's how he met his brother.

Everyone in that family was So unbearable, the mum, the dad, and the Sister. I love how Marshall was so done with everyone and said fuck it all...

**spoiler alert**
Interesting start and concept. I found the book a bit long, felt that at times I wanted it to move on. The death of their mother was a bit dramatic and the ending fell too much into place. Not sure if working in RE can really be done from a very remote location and solely online.
I felt at times that the book had been written by an older person who doesn't usually swear and then went back over the book to "roughen it up a bit" and put the odd swear word into it which didn't actually fit the characters that well nor fit the situation that well.

“Who do you want?” Tory’s whisper was breathless yet filled with anticipation.
“You. I want you.”

Extremely well written full length book both heavy on plot & spice. MMC's are full brothers who were raised together and had only been estranged for 1 year due to family drama. This book holds nothing back and has all the angst in the beginning, spice in the middle, and a HEA.

Pros:
- It wasn’t cringey like many other taboo books I’ve read.
- Liked the realistis moments.
- I really liked Marshall, he made the history interesting enough to keep reading.

Cons:
- I think they had good physical chemistry but the emotional part, the “romantic love”, didn’t felt developed enough.
- The tragic event at the end felt like a convenient way to get their HE, but also as a shock value and I hate that, the same resolution could have been achieved with other options.

Normally I don’t like taboo books. But it’s something about the way Avril spins a story that keeps me invested.
I will say….. their sister did work my last nerve but all in all another winner for Avril.

loved it.
what started as a booty call turned bad when Marshall realised his call guy was actually his little brother tory.
they battled with what they had done knowing it was so wrong but something had flipped inside them and they knew they couldn't stay apart.

Read better work from this author tbh. I really didn’t like all this throwing up. And the mother dies? Oh man give it a break.

Me dí cuenta al final que era una relectura. Es un libro para principiantes del género, no te da más de lo que promete.
