Please note: This is a short story. Flash fiction is a fun and quick read, not a novel.
Hannah needed a project to get her through the long summer. Signing up at the local animal shelter, she finds exactly what she needs in the sad, lost dog Basil.
She sets her sights on finding his owner, promising him he would be reunited with his family. What she didn't anticipate was being distracted by her gorgeous co-volunteer, Harry.
Overcoming her inner shyness, Hannah needs to reel in Harry the hottie, find Basil's owner, and try to be a normal teenager for her mother. And do all this before the summer ends.
Love, paws, and fur balls abound in this fun short story that is bound to make your tail wag.
Jamie was born into a big, crazy family of 6 children. Being the youngest, she always got away with anything and would never shut up. Constantly letting her imagination run wild, her teachers were often frustrated when her ‘What I did on the weekend’ stories contained bunyips and princesses.
Growing up, Jamie did the sensible things and obtained a Bachelor of Business degree from Southern Cross University and worked hard to gain her membership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
Yet nothing compared to writing. Quitting the rat race to spend quality time with her laptop named Lily, Jamie has written several novels and screenplays. Spanning a number of genres and mediums, Jamie writes whatever inspires her from ghost stories to teenage love stories to tantalising murder mysteries. Nothing is off limits.
A self-confessed television addict, dog lover, Taylor Swift fan, and ghost hunter, Jamie loves nothing more than the thrill of sharing her stories.
This is an adorable story about a young girl who decided that her summer vacation was boring. So to decided to get a job. She sees an add for help at the shelter. What happens next is very sweet
Hannah, under pressure from her mother to "get out of the house" during the summer, decides to volunteer at the local animal shelter. On her first day there, she meets Basil, a very sad dog who has been there, unclaimed, for months. She also meets Harry, another high school student and fellow volunteer. Convinced that a dog as nice as Basil, and as sad, must be missing his family and his family missing him, she convinces Harry that they have to find Basil's family.
This is a short, light, fun story about two teenagers doing something positive with their summer. Recommended.
This was a short, sweet, contemporary, teen, summer romance. Nerdy, introvert Hannah is encouraged by her mom to get out of the house more, get a job and even have some fun over the summer. She starts volunteering at the local animal shelter and meets Harry. They work together to find a stray dog's owner. Bring on the Hallmark style instalove. I gotta say- I didn't hate it. I actually liked it. There wasn't any drama or fussing. Because it was so short, there was no time for a lot of back and forth wambulance bitching and best of all there was no love triangle (At least not in this little installment) Maybe there will be in the future but at least there will be time for build up by then. So all in all I liked this book and it was super satisfying with none of the usual frustration! Maybe all teen romance should have dogs added in!
Omg i felt sad for basil that he was sad and didnt want to function or do anything because he wasn't with his family. Im happy that Hannah and Harry both helped Basil aka Charlie find his home and his family. Great short story!!

A wonderful and sweet story of how a dog was finally reunited with his family !
I enjoyed this story! It was such a cool and endearing type of story. These two teenage volunteers come to reuniting a dog who had been separated from his family for three months. Also how a fifteen year old shy girl finds a special friend? I recommend this great dog ebook for anyone young to older adult who loved to read short great stores like this. And so for these reasons I feel it needs five stars, too! I received this ebook for free and now have finished reading it and given it an honest review! Great work Jamie! By Angela L. This one just wasn't my thing. It felt too middle grade for me and I think I only wanted to read it because it was free, from an author I previously enjoyed, and it was short.
Not for me. I really wanted to love it but it was way middle grade / boring for me. Got through half of the book but couldn't make it all the way to the end.
Don’t take my rating as a bad 2.5, A Hairy Tail was a decent read, which is why it received a 2.5.
The main character is Hannah and she was kind of cool. She was more interested in school and homework and schedules than summer parties and wildness, which I respected. There was actual no obvious character development from what I could see, but that was fine. Mostly because there was no need for development, it wasn’t a thirty-two chapter novel about a teenager who finds herself. It was about down-to-earth Hannah who finds something to do while she wants for the last ninety-three days of summer to end... A Hairy Tail introduces 15-year-old Hannah, a sweet, nerdy, unconventional teenager. Her mom forces her out of her house during summer break with one request; do something. Hannah discovers that an animal shelter needs volunteers and her summer adventure begins.
This is a sweet, clean read. It would be especially fun for middle-school age readers. The book features a boy, a friend and a semi-crazy mom (oh, and a dog).
I believe there should be a 4.5 star rating. There isn't, so I rounded up.
I chose this rating because I read the book in 1 day because it was so good! I liked just about the whole book. I would recommend this book to people over 10 mainly because it involves flirting and other things that may not be appropriate for people under 10. This is a great book and I highly recommend it.
It didn't seem like much to me, but I enjoyed it. Despite the quite fast developing romance, which is a turn-off of mine, I really liked it. It was a fast, cute, fluffy read. And the dogs? Oh, I loved the dog shelter aspect of it!
It only took me 10 days to read because I only actually read tiny bits at a time. For 3 days lol
I gave this book 3 stars because I actually enjoyed reading it a lot more than I expected to. By literally judging a book but its cover (I mean.. look at it), I thought it was going to be really “ugh” to get through. But I decided to read it cause it is only about 30 pages. Also, when books are basically short stories like these, I don’t typically enjoy them, because, well, they’re usually made for little kids. This one though actually had a more mature tone of writing which I enjoyed. I probably wouldn’t suggest it to others and will probably forget what the book was even about soon, but it was enjoyable for the time being.
2.5 stars --- Nice little story but it focused more on the romance and the MC's personal life than the dogs/helping Basil. (Despite it being geared mostly likely toward teens.. not everything needs romance in it)
On one hand, it was nice to get to know Hannah a little better but on the other, it slowed down the pace of the story and I couldn't really connect with Veronica or Hannah's mom. The only other character I loved/liked besides the dogs was Harry.
This is a quick read since it's a short story. Full of teen-age angst, Hannah is out of school for the summer, but she loves school. She doesn't want to get-a-life. But her mother pushes her out the door. That's when she finds a notice that the humane society needs volunteers. It's not her love of animals that motivates her. It's her desire to stop her mother from nagging. However, it does change her life, and that's a good thing.
This book would be a wonderful choice for a dog lover! It’s also for free on Amazon (if you have a Kindle). It was such a beautiful moment when Hannah and Harry found Basil’s original owner. However, I don’t think Basil would be the same dog if his name was Charlie. He would be an exactly different dog if his name was changed. No wonder Basil aka Charlie didn’t respond when Hannah called him. Anyways, this is a lovely book.

A simple short but lovely story of a school girl who was bored in the school holidays. She went looking for a part time job to pass the time. She found work in an animal shelter, not only did she work hard, she managed to reunite a lost dog with its owners which had been in the shelter a few months, and also found herself her very first boyfriend.
This was such a cute story. Not only did we learn about the incredible people who provide support for lost pets, but we also got to see how two teenagers fell in love for the first time. I really enjoyed this book. It's a quick, fun read for the summer!
I would recommend this book for all ages. It will literally be the best book you have ever read. It's about a dog who has lost it's family and a lot more. This perfect for dog lovers.
Great for young teens. Nothing more scandalous than a kiss or a mention of a bra and it promotes volunteering and even being yourself even if you don't feel like you're "cool" enough.
If I’m not mistaken, I think I got the ebook of this from Amazon for free. Romance was cheesy but what do you expect from 15-year-old characters? But other than that, the book was cute. If you’re looking for a bit of a quick, heartwarming read, you might want to check this one out.
About a teenager that volunteers at an animal shelter in a summer. She finds her first crush and together they find one of the dog's family. Would recommend this book. I enjoyed it and helped me remember when I was a teenager.
This is a lovely story about a young girl volunteering at an animal shelter and in helping to find a dogs owner she finds herself, friends, her family and her first boyfriend! A happy book for quick reading!
