Wolfgang Büscher is known for his long, unusual solo walks. In his previous book, he wrote about walking from Berlin to Moscow - to explore the territory that was forbidden in the time of the cold war. Another walk he took was: along the border of Germany in a round trip of 3 months, taking trains, buses and ships. In "Hartland", he walks through America. Starting at the Canadian border, his plan is to walk from North to South, right through the middle, along the route 77.

Podróż odbywa się chyba bardziej w głowie autora, gdyby nie dygresje na tematy związane z historią USA i osadnictwa, to mogłaby to być książka o jakimś innym kraju. Autor niby przeszedł całe Stany z północy na południe, a w sumie nic ciekawego nie widział i niczego ciekawego nie doświadczył - z punktu widzenia czytelnika. Wspomniane dygresje były najbardziej interesujące, ale do tego nie trzeba mi książki podróżniczej. Poza tym było ich mało, nie przesadzę chyba, jeżeli powiem, że zebrałoby się tego raptem kilkanaście stron. Dla tych kilkunastu stron nie warto czytać całej książki. "Hartland" nie jest książką, którą widzę pod hasłem "podróże".

Jeśli ktoś liczy na standardowy reportaż z podróży z mnóstwem niesłychanych przygód, może się rozczarować. Książka inna od tych, które do tej pory miałam okazję przeczytać z kategorii "literatura podróżnicza".
Napisana jak świetna powieść. Naprawdę urzekający styl i język. Sposób, w jaki autor charakteryzuje napotkane osoby zdradza jego dojrzałość. Czytelnik od pierwszych stron wie, że nie mógł napisać tej książki młody człowiek, niewiele wiedzący o życiu. Bo ta książka jest bardziej o życiu właśnie, nie o podróżowaniu. Piękne opisy miejsc i ludzi. Teraźniejszość w spójny sposób przeplatająca się z historią.
Niezwykła.
Pozostawia z niedosytem. Zdecydowanie za krótka.

A whole new kind of US road trip. This German journalist can’t be accused of taking the easy option – instead of going east to west by car, in summer, he goes from north to south. In the middle of winter. On foot. Zese crayzee Germans, huh? He cheats now and then by getting a lift, and at one point he buys an old pick-up truck and a second-hand gun for a particularly inhospitable stretch, but by then you can’t blame him after he’s ended up in places that are as depressing to read about as they must be to visit. Sample quote (being interrogated by two different border guards while having his rucksack searched at the US-Canada border in the middle of winter): “It was less an examination of my possessions, more an examination of my brain. The new border guard probed it for contradictions, and I made sure that what I said tallied with what I’d told the first interrogator. He was ready to pounce on any apparently trivial detail to expose this bloke who claimed to have come on foot out of the wintry prairie, and who was now planning to walk across America.”

Welch großartiger fantastischer Text. Ein ganz besonderes Buch. Zu Fuß durch Amerika, weite, entvölkerte Landschaften, Geschichte und Menschen. Ohne aufzutrumpfen, in unvergleichlichen Bildern und Metaphern erzählt Büscher von seiner Fußwanderung. Wer wissen will, warum Trump gewählt wurde, findet in diesem Buch Antworten dazu. Allerschönste lesenswerte mitnehmende Prosa.
Berlin - Moskau von Büscher habe ich bereits gelesen, alle anderen Texte stehen jetzt in meinem Buchregal und werden von mir wie Schätze betrachtet. Ich freue mich auf die Lesestunden die ich mit diesen Büchern verbringen werde.

Sooo hochgelobt in der deutschen Presse, dass ich sehr gespannt war.
Hat sich am Ende aber doch sehr als wenig zusammenhängender Episodenbericht gelesen. Zum Teil waren auch sachlich falsche Aussagen ueber historische oder geographische Gegebenheiten nicht editiert.
Ein Buch das so viel Potential hatte und relativ wenig davon eingelöst hat.

von Nord nach Süd durch die USA, überwiegend zu Fuß, auch als Anhalter und mit dem Bus, weit mehr als nur ein Reisebericht, besonders interessant sind seine Betrachtungen für den, der selbst schon in den von ihm durchwanderten Staaten unterwegs war, auf jeden Fall zu empfehlen

Zu Fuß und per Anhalter von Nord nach Süd durch die USA: Wolfgang Büscher ist mit "Hartland" eine lesenswerte, mit einigen Exkursen in die Vergangenheit gewürzte Zustandsbeschreibung des Amerikas unserer Tage gelungen.

Książkę zakupiłam z okazji mojej własnej podróży do Ameryki. Co prawda nie pieszo i nie przez środkowe Stany, ale też z takim zamiarem szukania i porównania wyobrażeń zbudowanych na filmach i piosenkach z rzeczywistością. I tak jak Bueschera, tak i mnie nie spotkało żadne wielkie zaskoczenie, żadna wielka przygoda, a mimo wszystko Ameryka z preriami, z bezkresnymi drogami, kowbojami, krwawą historią Indian fascynuje. W książce i na żywo. To jednak jest ciekawe dotknąć i zobaczyć amerykański sen (drzemkę, koszmar?). Polecam!
