Forest ranger Rex has never been with a man, but his overwhelming feelings toward his best friend are driving him to distraction. After catching Paul in an intimate moment, he flees, but determined to find a way to get his friend in his bed.Paul is a ladies’ man from way back, always making jokes, never serious about anything but his job as a fire fighter. Yet after many years of friendship, he’s surprised to find himself watching Rex cross a room and imagining him naked, under him. But does he really want to make love to a man? Or will he make a fool of himself?A 1Night Stand in the beautiful Caribbean may hold the answer to both their questions.
Kate Richards lives in sunny Southern California with the wonderful husband she met online over a decade ago and a menagerie of quirky pets. She divides her time betwen the beach and the beautiful High Sierras. Kate loves hearing from readers!
I was in love with Rex and Paul since they were first introduced in Two Men and a Virgin. There is something about them that makes you want to know them in real life, so when I heard that their back story was going to be told I got giddy. Kate did not disappoint me. It was wonderful to see how they both ended up part of Madame Eve's services. How they both finally started to "get it" that they were more then friends even if they had not crossed any lines yet. I was also happy to read a bit about their feelings and relationship with Andie through their eyes. She is not a character in this story, but she is definitely there. I think my favorite thing about this story is watching the two main characters each struggling with and finally grasping onto what they want, even if they know their lives will never be the same afterwards. Being a 1NS, you know it has heat, but this story is so much more than heat. It is about a friendship hitting a crossroads and deciding to grow and deepen instead of walking away.
I have to be honest, I am a junkie when it comes to the 1NS series. Ms. Richards Virgin series is a great series within the 1NS series.
This story involves two characters that we met in Two Men and a Virgin. This story tells how they ended up together even though both were scared of ruining a 20 year friendship and being each others first M/M partner.
I have to admit though, at one point I was really upset with one of the characters but I understood why it happened.
Like the other 1Night Stand stories, this one is short, hot, and is the consequence of just a touch of Madam Eve's uncanny magical abilities in bringing couples together who either have no idea they really belong together, or want to have a partner but don’t know where to start. In this case, we have two men who are best friends, both think the other is straight, and both have developed a huge crush on the other. Neither wants to risk their friendship, so they do nothing.
Until one of them has enough and takes the initiative. Not in opening up, oh no, that would be too easy. Instead, Paul, the lighter-hearted of the two, decides to go for a one-night stand with a man who looks like Rex (that is the brief to Madame Eve), to see what it's like to be with a man, and to get Rex out of his system.
Meanwhile, Rex has been wondering what it would be like to be with Paul, and, finding his application on the computer, sends one to Madame Eve as well, requesting Paul. Rex hasn't been with a man before either, so he isn't too sure, But he does know he cannot go on wondering what it might be like.
Well, as you can imagine, the sparks fly when these two guys meet on an isolated tropical island with nobody around. Misunderstandings abound, emotions flare, and when they finally manage to get away from their friendship idea and hit the sack – hot, hot, hot. The ending is definitely a "happy for now", because both have homophobic families and a lot of issues to sort out, but I am willing to bet, with chemistry like that, they'll make it work. If you like the other books in this series, if you enjoy gay for you books, and if you want to see two friends turn into more, you might enjoy this short story.

I enjoyed this book about best friend’s since Kindergarten Rex and Paul. They live together but Rex soon realises that his feelings have changed for his best friend, so he decides to book a 1 Night Stand through Madame Eve with a guy that looks like Paul so when he gets home it’ll be out of his system and him and Paul can just go back to being best friends. Little does he know that actually be Paul that shows up for his 1 Night Stand. They’re both in love with each other which comes across during this short story. I found that this book ended abruptly as I would’ve loved a few more chapters and seeing how their relationship works when they get back to their extremely conservative home town. I’m glad that they have another book that includes their best friend Andie which I’m about to read so we may find out how their relationship will work and whether they’ll be upfront about how they all feel.
What do you do when after years of friendship you find yourself attracted to your very straight best friend and roommate. This is the dilemma faced by Rex and Paul. The two men have been friends and roommates for years and they both harbour a secret desire for the other but don't know how to approach the subject. The issue is brought to the fore when Rex sees Paul pleasuring himself in the living room. When Rex finds that Paul has been using a service to set up a one night stand to explore his growing attraction to Rex, Rex does everything he can to set up a one night stand with Paul. When they find themselves alone on a Caribbean island will they be able to follow through or will it destroy them? A nice erotic short.
This is a short story about two men who have been friends for years. High School, College and now rooming together both have been into women, but not one of them has been successful in having a serious relationship as something is amiss. Until one day Rex comes home to find Paul masturbating on the couch in the living room. The image is so intense and has Rex reeling, but even more, he finds the image more arousing than any of his former dates has ever been. As for Paul he has always had a crush on his best friend.
Both characters here in this story are virgins when it comes to male/male relationships. In an attempt to find more about himself and to see if the crush can lead to something more substantial, Paul arranges himself a blind date through !Night Stand agency. Little does he knows that Rex finds the link in his pc and arranges to attend the date and see if there can be more than friendship between them.
The story is quite the stereotypical gay-for-you and friends-to-lovers type. While I didn’t exactly dislike it I was left uninterested in the whole idea. Not quite the appeal for me. The guys were too adventurous in their first attempt of m/m sex and somehow it stroke me as odd. What was even weirder was the contend mention of their common female friend Andie. Digging deeper Andie features in an another story with the pair so I assume this was the way for the author to bring her in the plot and seed another installment, yet in this particular story she took way too much room in the text for never making an appearance.
As it is the sexual part of the story since this is an erotica was from mild to even fun, although as I mentioned a bit adventurous if we keep in mind both guys were virgins to anal or heads. And while I liked their personas I didn’t get too much into them, the eroticism and sensuality I would prefer weren’t there. The end itself was not really satisfying as well, as it left you wondering what the heck happened.
It is however a nice short story for a quick read in the bus or train, and if you are so inclined there is a follow up for Rex and Paul with the addition of Andie in another story in the series.
Best friends for life – but what if one begins to have romantic feelings for the other? And what if both of these two happen to be men who’ve never shown any signs of being gay?
Rex is a backcountry ranger who spends weeks at a time away from home. Because of his job, and close friendship to his friend Paul, a firefighter who also spends a good deal of time out of the house, the two share a condo, figuring neither needed anything more. They had been friends for years, sharing many things – including double dates. But lately, Rex’s feelings for his old friend have become more. He has a crush on Paul, and contacts Madame Eve to set up his dream date. Unbeknownst to Rex, Paul shares this hidden desire, and also signs up for a 1Night Stand.
I enjoyed reading the tale of how Rex and Paul, who we met previously in Two Men and a Virgin, originally became romantic. Neither having participating in a gay relationship prior, it was interesting to watch them figure out the mechanics of it. I think there are normal questions people have – how does it work? What do we do? The author does a good job of handling a delicate subject with tenderness and understanding, and even a bit of humor.
The only negative I’d really have is there is not much written to distinguish the two characters from each other, so it is difficult to tell them apart. In a typical male/female story, pronouns are easy and there’s no confusion. In male/male stories, it’s helpful to have a way to determine who’s who without much thinking. Mannerisms, dialogue, etc. can help differentiate each character, but in this story, both men are very similar. That helps with the friendship and attraction, but made me think a bit more while reading, to keep them apart.
The book ends abruptly, and I would have enjoyed a conversation between Rex and Paul as resolution, but both seemed to be on the same page. The love the two felt for each other came through, and this was ultimately a tale of discovery and exploration. If you’re looking for a story of first time gay love, this may be one to look into.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read by Kate Richards. I love the whole discovering you're in love with your best friend thing anyway, but this was really well done. You could feel both Paul and Rex's vulnerability, their hesitancy and their instinctive knowledge that with each other was the one place they wanted to be. Both characters were unafraid to show their weaknesses and put their hearts out there, even though they didn't know if the other was going to stomp on it—they just had to try or spend the rest of their lives with a bunch of 'what if's'. Not to mention you had the glorious setting of the Caribbean with the three 'S's'—sun, sea and scorching hot sex!
I say this all the time and cannot stress how true this is... writing a short is a whole lot more stressful than writing a novel, because you have to draw the reader in and make them care about the characters in so few words. Plus you have to make sure the plot is well rounded and ties everything up with a bright red bow at the end, so the reader doesn't feel short-changed. Kate has done that in spades. Even though they don't spend a great deal of time discussing it, you just know in your heart that Rex and Paul are in it for the long run and it leaves you heaving a contented sigh when you get to those immortal words... The End.
Although having said that, I did want it to be longer - but that's not a criticism -just means it was really good and I didn't want it to stop!
So put the kettle on, fire up your Kindle, Nook or whatever it is you read on these days and download this little gem—you won't be disappointed.
Two Men By Kate Richards This is a story about two men Rex and Paul who grew up together becoming as close as brothers. Then one day something between the two men changed. The question is will the men walk away from this with there friendship intact, will this be the end of there friendship as they know it or will it in fact a beautiful new beginning? I really loved this book. What I loved most about it was that the author made the characters so believable (I almost cried at one point) and so likeable (by the end I was laughing with them and cheering for them) all the while keeping the story sweet and sexy. It was really a wonderful story and I not only highly recommend it but I say if you don't read it you are truly missing out. A definite must read. Adriana D'Apolito

Rex and Paul have been best friends forever. They love the ladies but quickly lose interest but what these two "straight" men have never lost interest in is each other. Neither guy wants to make a move and ruin a perfect friendship or a reputation. Paul finally takes the dive and puts an ad in 1 Night Stand looking for a guy like Rex. Rex sees Paul's ad and the two best friends wind up on a romantic Caribbean island. This was a well written and fun short story. Both Rex and Paul were well developed and engaging characters. The sex is hot and the end wavers between a HFN and a HEA but I lean toward HEA.
I was really hoping to like this one since I've had such good luck with most of the 1Night Stand series, but this story was fairly disjointed. I didn't really get a sense of emotion from the men and their relationship seemed shallow and awkward.
Overall, it was just okay. Not something I'll read again.
