Devastatingly Gorgeous Drake Morgan MD- wealthy, powerful, and KINKY.
He is "Dr. Dangerous", a lady killer, a bona fide bad boy.
Kate- shy, inquisitive, interested in BDSM, has had sadness in her life.
Drake and Kate run in the same circle but have never met until one night at her father's fundraiser party. She is instantly attracted to him but she has been warned about him. Is it fate that brings them together or an unlikely coincidence when Kate decides to research the BDSM lifestyle? Kate enlist a Domme to set her up as a submissive to a Dom in order to do research, just research. Although in the back of her mind, reading letters that a Dom writes to his sub has her aroused and thinking....
When Kate meets her Dom, she is mortified to find out that Dr. Drake Morgan, friend of her father, is her Dom in waiting. She panics and runs. It is up to Drake, who is quite persistent, to convince her that he can help her in her research and not worry about her father finding out. The story goes back and forth. Kate is scared and runs a lot. Drake does not do love, he is divorced and that has left him hardened to love. He is honest in his feelings. Kate, on the other hand, is interested in researching BDSM but does have a secret desire of the submissive lifestyle. There are a few obstacles that they must overcome for their "Agreement" to work. Drake and Kate do share an intense sexual chemistry. Seeing their feelings develop is beautiful, passionate, sexy, sassy, and angsty. But what happens when Kate finds herself falling for the man who doesn't do love, can she stay and only do sex or does she leave so that her heart can survive?
The buildup to "The Agreement" was seductive and angsty and I was slightly irritated that Kate didn't know how to be forthcoming and honest in the beginning. She had her reasons and thought she was doing the right thing but it still drove me crazy at times. I couldn't help but fall in love with Drake, I would be his submissive in a heartbeat. But somehow I know I too would have fallen for him. I would call this book a sexy love story with a side of "sweet kinky" sex. The book also explain a lot of what being dominant and submissive is all about. There was not any S&M in the story, just dominance, some bondage and some discipline. A nice sexy read that left me smiling, grateful for no cliffy and looking forward SE Lund's next book in the series.

This one didn't work for me at all. There were large parts of the book where I felt like I was getting a lecture on BDSM pop psychology.
Kate irritated the crap out of me. She was so indecisive. She wants it, then she doesn't, then she does, then she's not sure etc. I wanted her to at some point have the courage to actually be honest about her sexuality, but she continually has to be "convinced". She was a laughable sub. There was seriously not one scene that she doesn't continually try to control what was going to happen. And, I have never come across a less alpha Dom than Drake. The whole Dom/sub dynamic was so watered down that I think I've read far more kink in "vanilla" books.
Then the ending was super rushed, and felt very unrealistic. Overall disappointing.

I absolutely loved this book! It had flawed characters who had great chemistry whose dialog was well written and with just the right amount of suspense. This might be one of the closest books that I have read touching on Fifty - storyline was different, but it had the same charisma and dynamic between the characters that made me fall in love with the Fifty trilogy. It was a full-length novel, just the right size in-depth enough but no disappointing cliffhangers (not a series). I haven't been this excited about a book in a while from a new author and eagerly await future releases from her, well done!

Journalism graduate Kate McDermott decides that she wants to write an article about the BDSM lifestyle and she's convinced herself that it's all just for research purposes until she is paired up with "Master D" AKA Drake Morgan, who turns out to be not only a talented, successful neurosurgeon but also the son of her fathers best friend. What starts out as a research assignment for Kate turns into an enlightenment into her own sexual awakening. This book actually started off interesting and promising but then it was all down hill from there. The story line was repetitive, and a predictable "50 shades" cliche. The characters were weak, the sex was nothing new, Kate's friend was so annoying and so over the top and the dialogue between Drake and Kate was at times so over-done and childish. Unfortunately I found this book pretty boring and long yes I know harsh but honest. Narrated by Emma Wilder.

If I could pick one word for my experience in reading this novel it would be Anticipation....slow, velvety smooth and building.
Kate MacDermott is the daughter of a politician who has grown up under her father's adoring thumb. She knew that she had to watch every step she made for fear that she might do something that could jeopardize his standing and career. She often had trouble separating the politician from the man and father. She did what he told her but never felt he valued her compliance. She rebelled where she could, becoming a Democrat vs. her father's party affiliation to the Republican party, living in an rent control apartment instead of in the lap of luxury he would certainly provide her. The one experience she had which was so painful for her, a visit to Africa during a heart wrenching famine...She was ineffective, unsuccessful in helping anyone and that is the one thing her father is the most proud of in her. She knew he loved her but always wanted to feel important to her father. This was all very confusing to her.
Dr. Drake Morgan is a elite, successful brain surgeon who is mentored by his father's best friend, Kate's father. He enjoys a relationship with him that he had wished to have with his own father. He shares his taste in life, is a republican, supports many of his charities and values the relationship he has with this man. He is a closet Dom, and is very careful that his preference for control in the bedroom is well hidden from his work life and social life. He enjoys training subs and is devastatingly handsome.
Drake and Kate actually see each other for the first time in a bar and show appreciation for each other....Her best friend tells her he is dangerous and to stay away from him.....then meet at her father's fundraising party....well, outside when she falls in the parking lot and twists her ankle. Drake comes to the rescue, tends to her scrapes and ankle. She is blown over by his good looks, cool demeanor and penetrating eyes on her. Her father insists that Kate have a ride home after the fund raiser and Drake quickly volunteers to take her home.
Kate's interest in the BDSM lifestyle put's her in touch with a real life Domme, Lara, who is an attorney and appears to Kate as a very normal, lovely woman. In fact they shortly become friends. Kate wishes to learn about the life style for her Master's thesis, which she has chosen to write about what appeals to people in the lifestyle and swears her interest is purely academic. Lara sets up a meeting with a Dom whom she can interview. Kate is incredibly embarrassed, humiliated and shocked when Drake appears at the cafe for their meeting...runs from the establishment and tells him to forget the whole thing.
Drake starts a campaign to win Kate over. To get her to enter into a temporary Dom/sub relationship so she can investigate and learn what the dynamics of the relationship are about. Kate is standing firm that she is not a sub and only had wanted to interview him not be trained by him. Drake argues with her...he recognizes her proclivity for being a natural sub. He explains that being subordinate is does not mean you are a door mat, that it is not in direct opposition to being head strong, out spoken and believing in political equality. He explains that it is the release of the control and power over a relationship to someone you trust, by agreement, who knows you so well that they know what you need to fulfill you and can make you happy.
In my mind the author did a great job explaining, through Kate and Drake's conversations, what the power exchange is in a Dom/sub relationship. And the anticipation that we, as readers, felt is equal to the want and need Kate and Drake must have felt. But Kate was worried that she would start to have emotional feelings for this man if she took the step towards a sexual or Dom/sub relationship. He made it very clear that there would be no boyfriend/girlfriend relationship even though they would pretend so that their spending time together made sense. So, Kate changed her master's thesis subject and avoided Drake.
This all seemed like a real situation to me...how it would really happen if I were in Kate's shoes. So many novels like these, (that are popular now) seem to rush into this relationship...instead this is like a long, slow, lava like slide into the waters of a BDSM relationship. What Kate and Drake find is that they are comfortable in their rolls of Dom/sub and that there are genuine and strong feelings for each other. That above everything, the power exchange, the control, the sex that they were connected emotionally on a different level. Kate's father was not judgmental of their relationship. His love for his daughter was much deeper than Kate thought as well. The relationships between all the key players in this novel ended the story strongly connected and more firmly in place than ever. No whimpering out.
I hear that the author is planning a follow up to this story with a new novel. This novel ended with Drake inviting Kate to go to Africa with him. He wants to show her how effective humanitarian work can be in a place of suffering and wants her to marry him. I anticipate that the second book will further dig into their relationship and show us the personal growth each must do to be more firmly rooted in each other. I look forward to it.
All-in-all, good read....enjoyable, and realistic. The author's genius is to give us what we want at her pace and not our demand. Little by little this story unfolds as we feel the need for more in this book as much as Kate and Drake. I enjoyed this and found it a fun read.

Was just an okay read.
A bit long winded & repetitive.
Not for me.
I ended up putting it on my 'book rejected' shelf.
In 2016 I read another book by S.E. Lund and it was worse than this one.
She will probably end up in my 'author rejected' shelf unless one of my GR friends can convince me to give her another try.
🤔 That will most likely not happen.

I DONT THINK YOU UNDERSTAND OH MY GOSH
To me, this book is so much more than BDSM. Yes there's a lot of sex and yes there are parallels with Fifty Shades, but it doesn't even COMPARE. In FSOG, Christian Grey nearly FORCED Ana into dominant/submissive sex. In this book, Kate was all but willing, which I loved. I mean, in a character sense. She wasn't forced.
I don't know, man, I just loved this one a lot. The writing was good and the characters were good.
Drake. Oh god. Drake. Where can I get me one of him? He's great, really.
I have no intelligent words for this book. I enjoyed it way more that I intended to, if the last smutty book I read has anything to show for it.
I suggest this book. Even if BDSM makes you uncomfortable, it's lightly present. Seriously. Just...go read it.
(Then again, maybe I'm pretty numb to the whole BDSM aspect... dunno. I still think you should read it.)

Really bored with this one it had promise at the beginning, but it ended up flat for me. Felt like I was reading a manual on step by step "BDSM lite" without any of the heat or passion.

Unlike many of the current popular books these days, this story has no cliff hanger, is complete in one novel, and provides a satisfying realistic HEA.
The author did a very nice job in weaving the D/s elements of the BDSM lifestyle into the story in an erotic, tasteful fashion, never letting the sexual side of the story dominate the overall plot of the book.

My thoughts: I don’t want to give too much away here, so I’ll let you read the rest for yourselves. Suffice it to say that the road travelled here is hot, hot, hot! Ms. Lund knows how to write a sizzling scene, and there’s no shortage of those. I found a nice balance of sex and plot though. As Kate and Drake struggle to reach their HEA (no surprise there, this is a romance after all!) there are seemingly endless roadblocks thrown up. What I really liked about this story was that the roadblocks were not always set up by the characters themselves as they play out all of their anxieties. Sure, they have some hang-ups like everyone else, but all in all these two are likeable and believable characters. Although I’m sure the inevitable comparisons will be made to Fifty Shades I found this story to have an entirely different feel. Sure, they are both stories about a high-powered man and a younger woman exploring a D/s relationship, but for me that’s where the similarity ends. Kate is no virginal, underprivileged Ana and while Christian Grey would scare the crap out of me, Drake is someone I’d love to get to know (wink, wink). As the story drew to a close I found myself with tears in my eyes (yeah, I know I’m a wuss) and that’s the mark of a great book for me. I truly got in Kate’s head and felt her pain and her eventual joy. Some great secondary characters and relationship development rounded out the story for me.
I’d be remiss if I neglected to share one of my favourite quotes from a letter Kate reads in preparation for her research. It’s written by a Dom to his sub:

The Agreement is like a flip of the coin to Fifty Shades of Grey. Kate McDermott is a serious and studious graduate student, a good catholic girl and the daughter of “the Hanging Judge” Kate McDermott’s relationships have only been vanilla and after her last disastrous relationship she needed to feel something different. Coming out of that had left her feeling numb and “no more bad boys” That is until her eyes connected with Dr Delish. Dangerous, dark and dominant Drake Morgan. Kate’s instincts told her to stay away from him or he would turn her vanilla life upside down and steal her heart and never give it back.
As a grad student her research involves writing pop culture for a newspaper but as part of her research she decided to look at the role of BDSM and the lifestyle. Convincing herself that her article is no big deal. It was just research for an investigative article and has absolutely nothing to do with any personal interest. During the course of her research she comes across a letter from a Dom to a sub. This piques her interest and arranges to meet a Dom who will show her all she needs to know about BDSM for her article.
What Kate didn’t know that the Dom she was about to meet was somebody she already knew. Kate is mortified and her vanilla- instincts kick in but she can’t resist his determined seduction and begins an intense relationship with Dr Delish that pushes both of their boundaries.
This was a well written story that provided an honest portrayal of Kate’s journey into the world of BDSM. The BDSM element does not define this story and some of the scenes are very vanilla and didn’t get into the extreme scenes that some BDSM stories produces. Some of the scenes are hot but are nothing “out of the ordinary”.
Her writing is strong and I found it difficult to put the book down once I got into it.

I just want to apologise to anyone who read the comments thread to this review. Someone made several comments and although this was fairly innocuous at first, it became rather vitriolic. I *tried* to remain above it, but I'm not perfect and do have a temper. I'm on Goodreads to keep track of my reading and be friends with other bookworms not to argue, so again: I'm sorry to anyone who witnessed it.
Now on to my original review, written July 2015:
On the long list of things I hated about The Agreement, first on the list has to be all the "Ms Bennet"s being thrown around. IT'S MISS BENNET** FOR FUCK'S SAKE! And you call yourself a romance writer?! Sacrilege I tell you, sacrilege!
Other items on the list include the poor little rich girl heroine who is so pathetic that she a) apologises profusely for attacking her boyfriend when he tries to simulate a rape scene - which she had said no to b) calls herself a bitch when she dares to stand up to a man and c) calls her prick of a father "daddy" even though she is fully grown and in grad school d) has absolutely nothing in common with any of the Miss Bennets**, least of all the witty and bright Elizabeth. Also that every single man in the book wanders around giving orders and "not taking no for an answer" - tossers, the lot of them. Oh, and obvious plot is obvious.
There's more, but the whole taking Jane Austen's name in vain has me too grumpy to keep reading.

When you read a story in the erotica genre, there are only so many twists that are plausible enough to get into the story line. Otherwise, you're just reading for the thrill of the sex scenes, which is ok too, if that's what you like.
One of the reviews of this book points out all the similarities between this and FSOG. OK, it's true, there are similarities, and it wouldn't surprise me if nearly half the BDSM/Romance books that have come out since FSOG are also very similar. In fact, I'm reading another one now. Some of the knock-offs might be better than the original, which had some now-famous problems itself. I'd say The Agreement is readable.
If you like to read this genre, you probably have a favorite formula, and this one is a favorite of mine. I don't like hard-core SM (although a little bondage and spanking is A-OK!), so the plight of a Dom that has trouble controlling his sub and ends up falling in love with her is fine with me. I find it amusing, and I'm a sucker for HEA.
Six months from now, I'll have to check my library to make sure I haven't already read this one. But while I was reading it, I enjoyed it. Except for the interfering friend, who I wanted to slap.

Okay, that's it. I can't do it anymore.
This book is a FSoG wannabe. It's on the right track, too. The writing is, while not as bad, awful and suicidal-thoughts-inducing, the main character indecisive, the the male hero gives off some weird vibes.
The similarities with 50 shades are there:
-stupid MC: ✓
-hot guy who's a legend in his field: ✓
-hot guy who does charity work: ✓
-guy warns off MC with cryptic comment: ✓
- MC's best friend warns her off hot guy: ✓
And that's just in the fist 16%.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this book.

Oh goodness, this book wore me out. I just couldn't believe anybody would allow their "best friend" to dictate who they would have for a lover even under the guise of fearing for their safety. I just wish that situation had resolved so much sooner than it did. I felt the beginning 25% was too long and boring. I almost made it a DNF but then did finish it. I did really like the ending a lot.

This book took me five days to read. I had to force myself to finish. when I am constantly looking at how much is left to read and groaning in frustration when I realize I am not even half way...this is not a good sign.
If you don't want any spoilers quit reading.
What i didn't like. There was too much info. The book should of been 100 pages less. The heroine was a push over and let everyone walk all over her. But with Dom she suddenly is more assertive and stands up to him. I Always felt the roles were reversed when it came to their interactions. She is suppose to be a submissive but doesn't act like one. The Dom was not very strong in this book. He was obsessive and stalkerish which I love but he was not very alpha. She controlled everything. The heroine acted like a 16 year old virgin when it came to sex. But when it actually came time to performing she starts being assertive and telling him what to do or not to do. Another moment she will act all prudish and judge mental!? She was seriously giving me whiplash with her behavior. I was seriously expecting her to be wearing a dominatrix outfit and the hero turned into the sub by the end of the book?
There were three other people who had their noses stuck in this relationship. I know there needs to be drama but this was too much. I don't understand why she wouldn't tell the hero it was her terrible best friend that is the one who is threatening them. He deserved to know and her friend lost all rights to keeping her identity secret with her own strange behavior. Before I get bashed on this...if her friend truly was concerned about her friend she would of reported it not hold it over her head when it was obvious she was in love. They hid their relationship like teenagers. Seriously? With the father running for some political office their relationship would of been front page material. The characters acted severely immature.
What I liked. The premises. The idea was good. I did think the hero was sweet. Her father and step mother were great. I did enjoy how they were able to explain the dom/sub relationship. I can't say it was accurate but it made sense. I loved the way the dom talked her through everything. Maybe not so much for the storyline but for educational purposes. In turn I liked how the sub/heroine explained her thoughts as he was walking through his steps. It felt like a "how to book" with demonstrations included. Which was overkill for a novel but great for educational purposes.
The book was too long, the hero acted like a sub and the heroine gave me whiplash. Had the book been shorter I probably would of given it 3.5 stars. Had this book been about a sub becoming a dominatrix and a dom becoming a sub probably a 4 or 4.5 stars. But that is not what the story is suppose to be about. This book was not my thing.

Graduate student Kate McDermott is trying to find herself and her place in her powerful family's future. Her life has been mapped out and controlled by her father and she has always felt inadequate and that she could never meet up to his expectations of her and she was not happy with the plans he had for her. After a traumatizing experience while being embedded with relief workers in Africa – Kate has a nervous breakdown that leads to her floundering and trying to find herself. She changes her focus of her major and after tasting a little of the BDSM lifestyle from a former boyfriend – she decides she would like to write about the lifestyle – anonymously of course, as she does not want to have any backlash on her powerful father who has political aspirations. She meets up with a Domme through her research on the internet who gives her a series of letters that fire up Kate’s imagination and the Dom that her mentor feels would be he best suited to show her the lifestyle turns out to be a close family friend, Dr. Drake Morgan who has no desire to have his secrets exposed either. They begin their relationship with an Agreement that leads to situations and feelings that neither of them anticipated, expected or wanted.
This is a for lack of a better word – sweet and loving story – the BDSM is more of a focus of the lifestyle and a Dominate/Submissive exchange rather than being about pain and S&M. The distinctions in the book are made quite clear.
I loved how Kate grew during her relationship with Drake and discovered that things are not always as they seem within families. She is not necessarily naïve and she does have an idea of what she is getting into – what she did not expect was to fall in love with Drake.
Drake is a very unique character in this type of book – he is not the stern alpah’s alpha who is a bit of an ass as he tries to control the situations and the scene – he is funny, engaging and seductive – every inch the dominate – and he falls in love with Kate despite wanting to keep his play and professional and personal lives separate. You can’t help but fall for Drake!
The way that their relationship develops is natural and not an overnight thing – very (ahem) very steamy and sensual –this book hit all of the right places for me and the letters from the dominate were awesome - I could read them over and over.
On the Goodreads scale - I am rating this book as a 4 (Really liked it)and on the Amazon scale of a 5 (I loved it) overall rating of 4.5.

I received an ACR copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review & I have to say that I absolutely loved it!
Our hero is the well known, wealthy, smokin' hot, brain surgeon - Dr. Drake Morgan ("Dr. Delish") by day, but he's also, the dominant, sensual, Master D by night. He likes control, bondage & his women submissive. He is an expert at compartmentalizing his life & never, ever, mixes love with sex... That is, until he meets Kate McDermott - the daughter of his late father's best friend - who he had only heard stories about, but never met. When he finally meets her at a fundraiser, he only knows one thing - he has to have her - but he also knows that because of his lifestyle, it can never happen. She's too innocent & he'd never forgive himself for corrupting her. And, what if her father found out????

The storyline will have you anxiously turning pages to find out what happens next. Don't let the fact that this author has only written PRN, so far, in her career fool you. Her CR writing is just as good, if not better than her PRN. Please note, that this book is a contemporary romance with BDSM elements & is NOT a BDSM romance, although, that's what Drake tried to make it......... Did he succeed? Only one way to find out!

Please note, that this book is a contemporary romance with BDSM elements & is NOT a BDSM romance, although, that's what Drake tried to make it......... Did he succeed? Only one way to find out!
I would definitely recommend this book to any adult who loves hot sex, mild D/s & a romance story that will make you swoon.

The Agreement is the other side of the story from books like Fifty Shades of Grey. Kate is a serious and studious graduate student with a more than pressing curiosity about BDSM. She hopes that writing a paper will help her learn more about it. She agrees to meet with a Dom who will introduce her into the world.
What she wasn't expecting what Dr. Drake Morgan to be the Dom. He's an acclaimed doctor and the golden boy in her father's eyes. Ashamed and embarrassed, she does the only thing she can and runs. Drake Morgan is not easily deterred. In Kate, he sees the perfect sub and he is ready to offer her an agreement she can't turn down. Kate decides to go against everything she thinks society expects and take a chance of Drake.
I think that Kate journey into the world of BDSM was a very honest and real portrayal. I think Kate's reluctance and uncertainty was true to her character. Even though this book is set in the BDSM it doesn't define the story and most of the scenes were pretty vanilla and didn't get to extreme into that world. Yes, there is sex (hot and steamy sex) but none of it was gratuitous and it only added to Kate and Drake's story.
Kate and Drake had such an interesting relationship. They had such an obvious and instant attraction to each other and I loved how the story prolonged their gratification. Once Kate finally gave in there were fireworks (not literally but almost.) Watching Kate let down her barriers made their scenes that much more passionate and emotional.
The Agreement is an erotic exploration of pleasure, passion. and raw emotion. Fans of E.L. James and Tiffany Reisz will enjoy The Agreement.

Really enjoyed this story of graduate Kate, and her interest/curiosity in the BDSM lifestyle. Being a daughter of a respected lawyer, it was going to be difficult for Kate to attempt to "research" a submissive's role for an article she planned for the student magazine.
After trawling the internet, she embarks on meeting a Domme who arranges to put her in contact with a respected, discrete Dom. What she hadn't realised was that Dom "Dr Delish" was not only handsome (obviously), a ground breaking Neurosurgeon, guitar playing band member, philanthropist, but was also the son of her Father's good friend, Liam Morgan.
I enjoyed watching Dr Drake Morgan relentlessly pursue Kate, and then wrap her in a D/s agreement. The story was mostly humorous, in that Kate was the worst submissive. But I guess that was encouraged by Dr Delish. There was also an underlying threat attempting to keep them from each other..
Needless to say, it was a steamy read (yay!), but the reference to BDSM play was very light. Not that I'm complaining, just there for notation should anyone be expecting anything heavier.

While I'm pretty sure I'm not into a lot of this BDSM, this was an interesting story, and much better than Fifty Shades of Grey for sure. The things in the story that happen are some that seemed pretty realistic. When Kate's friend tells her she has to stop seeing Drake because of the contract that she finds, and then even threatens to ruin his career, it was really intense. This was a situation where you totally agreed with the person telling the other to stay away to save that person. Then, when Kate has problems with the whole situation, and has to walk away, well that made a lot of sense as well. I definitely thought the part with Kate's family was different and unique. One question, I wasn't sure if Drake was a lot older than Kate, or just a little bit. That bugged me a bit at times. Other than that, the book had me thinking about it when I wasn't reading, and to me, that is a well-written book.

Wow where can I get me a hot Master D/doctor?
I really liked this book. I like the discovery of the two characters and even Dawn's annoying threats. Dawn made the story more but having the hot neurosurgeon and a dom was enough for me event though there wasn't much oF the BDSM but I'll take it and will continue with the others. All in all I really enjoyed Kate and Drake.
Oh and we can't leave out that he does good things for Africa :) I thought that was a nice twist in the story. This was well written and I'm glad I wasn't left thinking what's going to happen next.

Barely a 3 star read for me
I just didn't enjoy this one.
Drake was almost stalkerish in his behaviour. 'No' never seemed to mean no to him when it came to staying away.
The repetitiveness of the dialogue was annoying me, they kept going over and over the same ground.

This just wasnt for me im sorry to say..It was like watching a train wreck but being on the train..I found Drake annoying and not very Alpha at all.I also just couldnt seem to get in the flow of Kate and drake together

s. E. Lund and The Agreement are new to me author and book. I chose this book as part of a club listening challenge and knew it had erotic but it was oh so boring. Chalking it up to the H supposedly being much older than the h, however the narration of his voice made him seem much younger.
The pace was a bit slow leading up to the climax of the H/h really getting together and the reason for the break up, seemed a bit superficial.
In summary, not my cup of tea and narration could have been a bit better. If you are into erotica and dominant reading, this book is for you.

Kate McDermott is a graduate journalism student and daughter of a a domineering father running for the Senate. Initially this is just work for Kate and D/s for Drake, that's The Agreement referred to in the title, however the heart wants what the heart wants and their hearts want each other.
S.E. Lund's new foray into the Contemporary Romance world does not disappoint. Those who have read her previous works - the Dominion series - will have enjoyed her storytelling and marvellous character and world building before. The characters are likeable and engaging, Kate isn't virginal but she is emotionally vulnerable, Drake is successful and wealthy but is also warm and responsive. Friends and family play important roles in keeping the plot moving and are also rounded characters in their own right which makes for a satisfying read. I genuinely cared about whether they would be able to recognise their growing romance and be able to overcome the obstacles that were in the way of them being together.
The sex scenes are well-written and emotionally intelligent, with BDSM as an integral but not overwhelming part of the plot. S.E. really understands the appeal of the submissive mindset and erotic writing to many 21st century women and delivers hot, romantic encounters again and again.

Sometimes I don't know what pushes me to choose a book to read, but I'm seriously thinking I must have some sadistic inner voice because otherwise I don't get it.
This was one of the most painful things I've ever read, and I survived Gabriel's Inferno, so that's a lot.
There's spoilers ahead, so here we go:
- First of all, we need somebody that can write a male character, doctor, who is NOT a f@cking neurosurgeon, cause believe you me, there are other doctors that perform incredible surgeries too. Also, please, neurosurgeons don't have to be rich and have a 6 packs automatically.
- A republican senator that discovers that his future son-in-law is a Dominant motherducker and it's not only ok with that, but hey, take my daughter too, cause I'm not scared of the press or anything like that. Seriously. For real. No.
- If you are going to write a book, it would be great if you can not just get a Dominant/Submissive for Dummies and just write a couple names around it thinking that you have a story.
- If anybody ever mentions to me again the shot glasses that belong to Stalin's maid, I'm honestly considering becoming a communist.
- And then there's the female heroine...I mean heroine as in the illegal substance you would need to stand this stupid girl that doesn't understand anything at all, has the same personality as an urchin, whines in every single sentence, spends 75% of the book crying or being dumb, and would have lasted in a sadistic dungeon as long as I doing crossfit. This is by far the WORST written female character I've ever encountered, and taking into account that I still remember Anastasia Steele and his inner goddess...OUCH.
And last but not least....WTF is going on with Africa??!!! What is that Doctors Without Borders shit??!!
