Robert Lawrence Stine known as R. L. Stine and Jovial Bob Stine, is an American novelist and writer, well known for targeting younger audiences. Another book from my childhood collection. I bought this book right after reading The Curse of Camp Cold Lake #56. My Best Friend Is Invisible is a very unusual book by R.L. Stine about a young boy named Sammy Jacobs who becomes friends with an invisible boy but he ruins everything for Sammy.

Sammy Jacobs is a very competitive boy, who is annoyed by his excessively scientific family. At the time, Sammy believes he is being haunted by a ghost, who keeps getting him into trouble, like making a mess of his room or accidentally tripping him at a track meet. Then, he learns that the ghost is not actually a ghost, but an invisible boy, named Brent Green. Brent claims he just wants a friend, but he messes things up all the time for Sammy. In fact, people have started to believe that Sammy has gone insane. In the end, there is a huge surprise when the invisible boy is revealed to Sammy’s family.

The best part in the book is the twist ending. In the end, there is a huge surprise when the invisible boy is revealed to Sammy’s family. I didn't expect that ending! It blew me away.

Would you call a human a monster? Could a human be an endangered species? Read this book and you'll really be surprised.

Sammy Jacobs has an invisible boy in he’s room the problem is nobody believes him, especially he’s scientists parents.

It’s a fun quirky entry in the series, Sammy is constantly frustrated that no one will be live him. Even the kids at school tease him.
This is one of the Goosebumps books that has a really memorable twist ending.

Sammy is into some pretty weird stuff. He likes sci-fi and everything to do with ghosts. But when he starts finding his room dismantled and other strange things start happening he starts to wonder what is going on. Come to find out, Sammy has a new friend. Only this friend is invisible!

Now this Goosebump book has one of my favorite covers.

I have to admit I went into the book thinking it would be just a light fun story about an invisible friend but boy was I wrong.

The story was much darker than I anticipated and I think that is why I enjoyed it so much.

Sammy realizes that there is someone in his room. The only problem is that, that someone is invisible and nobody believed him.

His parents are scientists and obviously do not believe in ghosts or the supernatural.

How will Sammy prove to his parents and friends that he is not lying? And what does this invisible person want from him?

It is dark, fun and has a twisty ending. Perfect to read in one sitting and give yourself goosebumps.

And so I continue my life-long dream of reading and reviewing every Goosebumps book from the original series. I'm nearing the end, and the quality of the books is somewhat wavering. After a brief respite, I'm going to try to dash to that distant finish line.

Sammy and his friend Roxanne are both obsessed with ghosts. Unfortunately for Sammy, he's about to meet a ghost of a sort. Brent, an invisible boy, decides to take up residence in Sammy's room in order to make Sammy his new best friend. Unfortunately, Sammy is stupid enough to tell Roxanne about this invisible friend and the process of Sammy's stupidity ruining his life/Brent trying to help him with things and making things worth begins.

My Best Friend is Invisible is one of those books that both would work better as a TV show or film and.. wouldn't work better as one. It would work better since the action is primarily visual and scenes like the ghost sequence in Hedge House just.. work better on a screen and can be properly paced there. It wouldn't work better due to the eye-roll inducing twist at the end. All in all, not the best or most compelling Goosebumps book and the twist at the end just sealed its mediocrity.

MY BEST FRIEND IS INVISIBLE is the 57 th book from the GOOSEBUMPS series written by R. L. Stine, a horror fiction children's novel. The story is a about how Sammy Jacob is a 7th grader, who is into ghost and science fiction. This hobby of his us not appreciated by his scientist parents.

His brother, simon on the other hand is into science and is the good one in the eyes of his parents, says sammy. Problem starts sammy hears someone's sound in his room who says that he wants to be Sammy's best friend. But sammy cannot see him. Now is the guy harmful?
Or good?

What is the intention of the guy?
This forms the crux of the story, a novel for children about currently unreal and not yet scientifically proven topic.But who says it is not real, it's not yet proven! Maybe the next strong wind that blows near your may feel like a hand on your shoulder or a palm on your cheeks, who knows if it's real?😉😋💨👻

Sammy has always been a sci-fi fan. So an invisible boy showing up at his house wanting to be Sammy's friend should have been awesome. But by the time Sammy realizes his new friend is doing more harm than good, it may already be too late to get rid of him.

Being one of the less popular Goosebumps tales that wasn't made into a show or movie, I don't remember this one.
The story starts off fairly normal and the strange occurrences don't take too long to get started.

The ending though was definitely the best part. It is one of my favorite endings in the series so far!

This book is amazing. I love the way it doesn’t take too long for something out of the ordinary to happen. This book has wonderful characters and a wonderful plot twist. This book is very relatable for someone who has a younger sibling. This book in my opinion, is a masterpiece created by none other than R.L Stine. 5/5 book.

There isn't a lot to like about My Best Friend Is Invisible, but it isn't completely without merit. Of course, with this being a Goosebumps book it is inevitable that we have to deal with some tropes that Stine seems particularly fond of - namely an insufferable lead character and stupid cliffhanger chapter endings and a plot that often weaves its way into nonsense territory. Now look, I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover (although I would argue that surely that's the entire point of books having covers and Goosebumps cover artist Tim Jacobus usually delivers some sublime artwork) but my hopes weren't exactly high with a cover that does little to invoke much fear - a comically frightened cat and a floating pizza slice and drink didn't quite make me think I should beware for a scare.

The plot suffers from one of my least favourite tropes, where the protagonist knows something spooky is afoot, but the spooky occurrences are never observed by anyone else and so we have pages and pages of our main character not being believed, despite us as readers knowing they are telling the truth. Perhaps this trope resonates better with children who are a more appropriate age to be reading Goosebumps, but I just find it incredibly frustrating. It also doesn't help that our lead, Sammy, whines a lot and seems to act out for attention.

The story blunders from one plot point to the next (at one point Stine tries to make a relay race exciting to no avail) with incredibly clumsy foreshadowing leading to a slightly predictable climax. Honestly, the majority of this book is pretty tedious - as the title hints, the antagonist of this book is an invisible boy who wants to be best friends with Sammy (for some reason) but seems to be completely inept at making friends. It's not exactly a chilling tale. However, towards the end of this narrative there is an exciting section that takes place in a supposedly haunted house where the stakes get surprisingly spooky and dangerous for a Goosebumps book. It was nice to encounter at least a couple of chapters that were actually somewhat thrilling.

Unfortunately Stine fumbles the ending, meshing together two twist endings that he's previously utilised (from The Girl Who Cried Monster and Welcome to Camp Nightmare ) to result in a truly eye-roll inducing climax of catastrophe. I never have particularly high hopes for Goosebumps books, I just look for a little bit of fun, a little spookiness, and a little nostalgic tickling, but sadly My Best Friend Is Invisible didn't really deliver. It feels like Stine scrabbled this together as a sort of Goosebumps themed Mad Libs exercise.

The Invisible Boy
Plot: Things are about to get interesting! Sammy Jacobs may not get any attention from his scientist parent’s but he’s about to get more attention than he bargained for from a new “friend”. It all starts when weird things start happening around Sammy like his window’s opening themselves (when he knows he’s shut them), his spoon being moved to the wrong side of the bowl, and his cat going completely crazy and acting abnormally. Sammy’s best friend Roxanne seems to be obsessed about a school project related to the paranormal and visiting a haunted house, but Sammy finds his own paranormal visitor one day after school by the name of Brent. Brent is an invisible boy that just doesn’t seem to want to go away and is determined to make Sammy his new best friend.

My Thoughts: HMM! So, I’m noticing something about GB books that I hadn’t noticed before the more I read. This twist at the end of the weird thing being the normal one and the normal one being the weird thing is a frequent theme and continuously repeated throughout the series. In this case with the monster. This strategy was used in a couple of books before this if I’m remembering correctly. It was used in one of the first camp books when the boy goes to camp and at the end finds out his parents are (aliens?) and all the pranks pulled on him to test if he were strong enough to come with them (to earth). Then there was one about a girl finding out her not only was her librarian a monster but she and the rest of her family were monsters too. There might be another one. But here’s the thing. Normal, humans aren’t able to turn themselves invisible. And then let’s just for a minute forget reality (as this is a fantasy book) and say we could. Why would you let your parent’s turn you invisible to hide you, yet what you really wanted was to friend one of the monsters? And then it’s just a little bit freaky that he only wants 1 friend. Bret seemed VERY possessive! I wouldn’t have wanted him as a human friend. The reason I never seem to see the twist with the “supposedly” humans is because there’s nothing to make them the slightest bit suspicious, which I guess is the point, but it would be that much cooler to have some slight not too noticeable hints to go back to on the second read and say OH! That was right in my face and I didn’t even realize it. Otherwise, the reveal like what the…. I actually thought Sammy through half this book was a girl. Despite the first page (looking back) saying that he was the Invisible BOY. And I already knew when it was introduced where the molecule light was gonna go. I just think he should have thrown some more hints (clues) in this one. I also think Brent doesn’t quite grasp the term “friendship” because “friends” don’t go around slamming each other against the wall and throwing them across the room.

Ok the only reason I am giving this book 5 stars is because I was duped... it tricked me!!!

So you have Sammy who is a normal kid doing a project on haunted homes. Then all of a sudden one day something starts messing up his room, like destroying it. Papers all over the place, then something starts eating his food. Then something starts moving his hand when he is doing his homework.
That is the last straw Sammy then decides to tell everyone that there is an invisible person that is doing all theses things. Brent. No one of course believes him and Brent will not let anyone here him besides Sammy. It gets to the point where Sammy's dad is going to admit him see a psychologist because they think he is having a breakdown.
Finally Sammy is able to use his fathers equipment that sees invisible matter... why he didn't think about that before I don't know. So they are finally all able to see Brent, in all his one headed human glory... and since humans are almost extinct they don't want to get rid of him.......

Blerg. Is there a rating less than one star? I know these are for kids (and this is one I didn't read as a kid myself, having given up already). But even looking at it as an adult through the "Blogger Beware" experience, it seems that kids would be insulted by this one. Every character is whiny and neurotic, even the ghost, and the twist ending is like a slap in the face to everything that came before. This might not be the worst book ever- "Mein Kampf" exists, "The Vagina Ass of Lucifer Niggerbastard" exists- but this is the worst children's book ever.

One of these days I would like to go back and reread the Goosebumps books. I owned 20-30 of them as a kid, and I remember this to be one of the more memorable ones. Coz there is nothing like suspension of disbelief when the plot involves a random invisible 10 year old moving into your bedroom and keeps on getting you into trouble and never leaves.

Goosebumps - My Best Friend Is Invisible by R.L. Stine is book 57 in Goosebumps Original series order. This book has minimal scares and is more humorous. There is an ongoing debate about whether the boy is invisible or a ghost. The horror is what if someone you did not know was invisible, and wanted to be your best friend. The invisible boy does not take no for an answer. Some of the humor does work, there's a funny prank at school where everyone acts like they have an invisible friend. Another humorous scene is when his little brother kicks the older brother and blames it on the invisible friend. The final twist was great and it lays the groundwork for the twist at the end very early. The Invisible Man by H.G. the book changes it to The Invisible Boy to make a twist at the end work. The Invisible Man is the clear inspiration for this story. There's a haunted house subplot that I added some much needed scares to this story but it came a little late. My Best Friend Is Invisible is not a bad Goosebumps, but not a good one either. It will fall into the middle of my list of Best to Worst Goosebumps. My Best Friend Is Invisible was published on July 1, 1997.

Plot Summary: Sammy can't get away with anything in his family while his little brother Simon gets away with everything. Sammy has to do extra chores for something that his brother did. When he gets to his room it is messy, at first he blames his brother, but his cat starts acting weird and the window is open. Sammy wakes and trips over something on the floor, but when he looks he can't find anything. He goes to school but doesn't do his homework since he has to clean up the mess in his room. He gets called to the board in math class to show his work. He doesn't know the answer to the question but he feels a hand on the chalk that writes. He wants to get the answer right but gets freaked out. His reaction gets him sent to the guidance counselor who is worried about him. When he gets home he gets a slice of pizza which is ripped out of his hand, and starts getting eaten. The invisible boy introduces himself. The boy only lets Sammy know of his presence, despite telling his family and his best friend. The invisible boy only wants to be best friends but doesn't care if Sammy doesn't want him as a best friend.

What I Liked: I liked the ghost vs. invisible argument. The subplot with the ghost in the haunted house was fun and a little bit scary. I did see what was true and what was fiction at the haunted house but it was still fun. The final twist was great. One of my biggest pet peeves is a final twist that does not make sense, and this one works. The writing at the beginning had fun wordplay that paid off in the end. The prank at the school with a classroom of kids all acting like they have invisible friends.

What I Disliked: The scares take way too long to happen. The invisible boy is very annoying. The plot had a lot of filler and needed to be more focused. The invisible boy takes way too long to speak.

Recommendation: My Best Friend Is Invisible is a fun Goosebumps. The story is light on horror but fills it with humor. I liked some parts a lot, but most of the plot felt too much like other Goosebumps books. I will barely recommend My Best Friend Is Invisible.

Estos libros de R.L. Stine son una gozada. Mejor que sus rudimentarias técnicas de horror y suspenso (buenas pero sencillas, porque están escritos para niños), son sus descripciones sobre la gente y las cosas. Me hacen sentir como si leyera Papelucho. Por ejemplo:

"Mis padres son científicos y trabajan en un laboratorio de la universidad. Hacen cosas raras con luces y rayos láser. Por la noche vuelven a casa y se pasan toda la cena hablando sin parar sobre su trabajo. Mi hermano Simon de diez años y yo, no decimos ni mu. Tenemos que sentarnos y escuchar cómo hablan sobre la refracción de la luz, y de los impedimentos oculares.

Soy un fanático de ciencia ficción. Me apasiona leer libros y cómics de ciencia ficción y alquilo todas las películas de vídeo donde salen seres de otros planetas. Pero cuando tengo que escuchar a mis padres hablar sobre su trabajo es cuando realmente me siento como un ser de otro planeta, porque no entiendo nada de lo que dicen.

-¡Papá, mamá! - intenté entrar en la conversación - ¿Sabéis qué? Hoy me ha salido una cola.

Mis padres ni me oyeron: estaban demasiado ocupados discutiendo sobre algo llamado morfología.

- En realidad me salieron dos colas - dije en voz más alta, pero no me hicieron caso. Papá dibujaba una especie de diagrama en la servilleta. Me aburría como una ostra y, por hacer algo, di un puntapié a Simon por debajo de la mesa.

- ¡Au! ¡Estate quieto, Sammy! - gritó, y me respondió con otro puntapié.

Le volví a dar.

Papá continuaba garabateando números por toda la servilleta, y mamá miraba el diafragma con ojos entrecerrados."

Después la escena sigue, pero igual largo copiarla entera. Con esto basta para compartir el estilo del autor.

La historia de este libro la encontré más floja que en el otro que leí antes, pero a la vez tiene más sorpresas. A mí me divirtió mucho. Creo que este tipo de entregas cortitas y graciosas mantienen vivo el amor (y la paciencia) por la lectura. Recuerdan que una buena pluma es un agrado incluso en lo más sencillo, y a veces uno necesita lo sencillo.

Ojo, eso sí que con este es UN LIBRO DE HORROR, o de suspenso, al menos. Supuestamente, jajaja.

This was a good book with an Interesting concept, I had a few problems with some of the characters annoying me and it not being one of the scarier goosebumps I’ve read, but still an enjoyable read and I still recommend you read it. Not to mention it’s one of the cooler covers!!

Read the series when I was a kid.
Loved them so much! They are the perfect type of scary to read when your young.
Then I ReRead the whole series to my son.
And he loved them as much as I did.
