Until Death Us Do Part is a fascinating, surprising, emotional and strictly feminine exposé set upon the Indian Sub-continent. It's up there as one of the most interesting books I've ever read.
The content is a collection of fictional short stories dealing with love, passion, need and want. There is a story to cover mature problems and impacts for just about every age group within a society.
Some of the issues are quite confronting and were it not for the skill of the author, Julia Dutta could be disturbing. Yet Julia's flowing style of non-judgemental explanation along with emotional content remaining free from precise action-description allows the reader to take in what is presented with involvement without becoming offended.
This book is not specifically about sexual relationships but there is a link as the stories present women's issues in a patriarchal society. A number of these stories identify a range of almost unbelievable injustice simply for being female where the prospect of ongoing poverty is all too common. There are also some very touching stories that will warm the reader for hours.
This book convinced me any people differences, no matter where we are born relate to personal empowerment gained from access to financial security and education. ---- Five Stars.
