A freckle-faced redhead born and raised in Hawaii, Kele Moon has always been a bit of a sore thumb and has come to enjoy the novelty of it. She thrives on pushing the envelope and finding ways to make the impossible work in her story telling. With a mad passion for romance, she adores the art of falling in love. The only rules she believes in is that, in love, there are no rules and true love knows no bounds.

So obsessed is she with the beauty of romance and the novelty of creating it, she’s lost in her own wonder world most of the time. Thankfully she married her own dark, handsome, brooding hero who has infinite patience for her airy ways and attempts to keep her grounded. When she leaves her keys in the refrigerator or her cell phone in the oven, he’s usually there to save her from herself. The two of them now reside in Florida with their three beautiful children, who make their lives both fun and challenging in equal parts—they wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Hope never gets old.”

It’s always difficult for me to write a coherent review about a book I actually loved. Every time I sat down to write, and tried to run through it, I was lost in the story again.

The Queen’s Consorts is an unusually exciting and emotional romance.

The Story
Twenty years ago, due to a betrayal the Queen of Auroria and one of her consorts were murdered, and their infant heiress, the next queen in line, disappeared right then. As the planet’s prosperity depends on the happiness of its Queen, since her disappearance the Sun has never shone. Ecological breakdown, misery and poverty reign all over the empire.
She was sunshine for their people. She was health, wealth, and vitality, and keeping her safe meant the security of all of Auroria rested in their hands.

The power is in the hands of the Queen’s Sisters, who had formed a Council led by Laysa. Within the Sacred City, they bask in luxury, using the Queen’s personal consorts, Taryan and Calder to satiate their own desires. Hideously, many of them not only sexually abuse but humiliate, brutalize and torture them.
As horrifying as it was to admit, he’d become so accustomed to pain, he didn’t fear it anymore. He just endured and fought to maintain a sense of dignity in the face of it. Even if no one else saw the strength of his pride, which still remained powerful and strong, it was real to him, and that was all that mattered.

Taryan and Calder were raised in the Sacred City by one of the fathers of the heiress, who never gave up the hope to see his daughter again. From their childhood the consorts have been trained to protect their Queen, make her happy and satisfied. They are hoping to have back the true heiress one day, but also scared of the possibility of her being as a cruel creature as her so-called sisters.

The story starts when Sari, a beautiful young woman is attacked, beaten and almost raped. The Royal Guard saves her and she is taken to the Sacred City because by the moon marks on her body she is identified as a Rayian female, who is supposed to be sacred and protected. Here she is left to the care of the consorts, and as the attraction between the three is overwhelming and palpable from the very beginning, Taryan and Calder suspect that Sari is long-lost heiress.

The marriage form in the society of Auroria is group marriage, consisting of two bisexual men and a woman. But the connection between the Queen and her consorts is more than a simple spousehood. Sari, Taryan and Calder were born in the same exact moment, they are not only meant for each other, but bonded spiritually and mentally.

Calder and Taryan must do as Sari wishes; furthermore Sari is able to pass over her own abilities to them, merely with a mental command, even from a great distance.

Of course, many members of the council and the aristocracy are not happy that the Queen is back. Fights erupt between the Royalists and the followers of Laysa all over the city, meanwhile Sari, Taryan and Calder are fleeing to find a place where they could finish the bonding ceremony, and solidify Sari’s powers.

Reclaiming her throne is dangerous, sometimes it seems even hopeless. Sari, Calder and Taryan have to fight many battles, to endure terror and betrayal to triumph. Slowly it becomes clear who are faithful to the monarchy and who aren’t, and how much tragedy, suffering and self-sacrifice took place in the last twenty years, especially in the last couple of days, that helped the Queen to redeem her throne.

Plot & Erotica
The erotic scenes are hot and steamy, and also very emotional, filled with love, intimacy, and life-long devotion.

Sari unintentionally witnesses Calder and Taryan’s lovemaking: so much love and so deep connection radiates from their every touch and kiss, that it seems impossible for a third person to intrude their unity.

But the author absolutely succeeds in writing a believable triad relationship. Sari connects to them as no one else could, and you don’t feel it too fast or groundless, but natural and obvious. The equality, respect, and love of the three of them is amazing.

Characters & World-building
I loved the spiritual connection between the Queen and her planet, Auroria, as well as the spiritual and mental bond between the Queen and her Consorts. Pity you don’t get more about the planet’s nature, areas, and cities. I would love to read more about this unique world.
The planet was alive to her now. She could feel its energy —a living, breathing thing inside her—and it was too beautiful to abandon, even in the name of love and friendship. It was a companion, the purest part of her soul, and she could feel it reacting to her unhappiness a thousand times stronger than before.

Calder and Taryan are very special characters. Raised together since their infantry, Calder and Taryan are not only best friends and comrades, but devoted lovers too. I loved them together.

Sari is a beautiful, strong heroine. She has many special gifts, such as , and a kind, generous personality. Sari values her Consorts and everyone around her, unbiased, no matter where they come from.

I also loved the secondary characters, Aria, as well as the triad of Macro, Haven and Kayla. I so want to read their story too!

Laysa, the sadistic, evil, self-proclaimed queen is a really well-drawn antagonist. Her bloodthirst and cruelty have no limit.

The cover is beautiful and fits the characters very much. With The Queen’s Consorts Ms. Moon has become my new favorite author.

Another reread...because I just love this book 😋

---------------------------------------------------------
FIRST REVIEW:
I am not sure if what I have just read was a sci-fi romance, a fantasy story or a well written porn. To be honest I don't really care how someone would characterise it because it was a very good, solid story. The book was a page-turner and I had a great time reading it.

In a far far away land, Sari falls in love with Calder and Taryen who are future queen's lifemates and consorts and thus they are the forbidden fruit. The three of them cannot resist each other and they find themselves in a complete mess.

The book is synthesised with a number of traitors, a civil war, sex slaves and a Kingdom that starves for some peace, quite and clean sky which only the union of the Queen and her consorts will bring.

Wow….I loved this book!!!
Menage is one of my favorite genres and I loved Kele Moon’s Beyond Eden , https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9... so I knew I was going to get another great read. She writes the most erotic and steamy scenes without them being tawdry. And I was not disappointed in The Queen’s Consort.

Well-written, brilliant world building, unforgettable characters, conflict, mystery and romance.

It was one of those books that I was so immersed in that I couldn’t put it down.

I would love to see more about this world and its characters. Wonder if there will ever be a follow-up….what a treat to look forward to!!!!

Kele has outdone herself with this story. Excellent world building, characters, conflict, good and evil forces.

MMF permanent menages are the norm in this world and I liked the Calder and Tareyn had their own relationship while they awaited the return of their lost partner, the deposed Queen Darisa.

Calder and Tareyen have suffered at the hands of the Sister Council which has been corrupted by the lack of the Queen and made to serve these women at their whim.

Sari was an orphan sold into sex slavery and had escaped and has been wandering for quite a while when she tries to rescue a young girl from an attack, she's taken to the Sacred City and nursed back to health by Calder and Taryen and feel a connection that can't be denied. It soon becomes clear that she's the lost Queen Darisa and the evil forces who caused the coup that killed her mother years earlier are quick to action to get rid of her permanently.

The sex scenes are hot and steamy and Calder, Taryen and Sari are a perfect complement to each other. The battles to retrieve her crown are action-packed and exciting.

Couldn't put it down. Kudos Kele! Wouldn't mind visiting this world again.

This was the most wickedly naughty fantasy book I've read since Concubine. The plot's not really that strong and I still have questions, but I don't think people are supposed to read it for the plot.

description

Sari, Cal and Tary were all born at the exact same time which made them destined to be a triad. Sari was whisked away from the Sacred City as an infant for safety reasons and the monarchy crumbled shortly thereafter leaving the wicked Sister Council to rule the world. However, it also plunged the planet into darkness because Auroria is bound to its queen and when she's unhappy...

description

Once she returns her Rayian markings make it clear that she's at least a lost sister and what's left of the Royalists within the Queens Guard set out to protect her and put her in the path of her mates. Then the fireworks happen.

description

DAMN! I wish Kele Moon wrote more ménage stories. She gets the balance I look for and brings the heat. The consorts are literally made for her and without chemical interventions cannot be attracted to any other female, but that hasn't stopped the Sister Council from abusing them terribly. To have sex with a consort is a crime punishable by death, so when Sari enters the picture complicated feels arise. But her allure proves too powerful and they are helpless to deny her.

description

The battle, ensuing chaos and hella long epilogue were all a tad on the longish side for me, but I did like the inclusion of Aria into the family.

I'm somewhere between 3-4 Stars but I'll round up for the hotness.

(...) I liked the characters very much. I got to know them individually and for me separating both males and gave them a distinct personality is the best way for me to fall for them. Each ménage à trois romance is not only a kinky story with dual penetration sex possibilities. A ménage à trois must be justified somehow. A ménage à trois for me is 3 pieces of puzzle that without each other are incomplete.(...)

So here is a question to all readers.. When you skip through the book whether it is whole chapter, a few paragraphs or just skimming.. do you still consider that as reading the book fully?

I will be honest I found myself doing that a lot in this book once I hit the 40% mark. I must say the world building was quite unique, as was the concept of the whole book. It was the driving point that kept me reading the book and the 3rd star.

The relationship between the 3 main characters and the plot building within the story left a lot to be desired. Anyone that knows me knows that 'Damsel in Distress' is not my cup of tea, I actually like my females with a backbone and some teeth. I always appreciate an author who is able to portray a gentle yet strong female lead which I believe this author tried. However she fell short.. A whole damn lot

I had very high hopes going into this book and they weren't really fulfilled. Although, I am glad it showed a complete different universe covering quite a few sensitive issues in an unconventional manner. I would say give it a read if you got nothing better to do and need some random book exploring.

Two men and one woman is the standard relationship in this world. Menage as a v triad or a complete triangle is what everyone one hopes to achieve. Sari is all alone with no hope of finding two male mates to complete her. Through a series of events, she's led to the Sacred City where the Rayians rule.

Ms. Moon breaks out another delightful tale with steamy erotic scenes and conflict. The world building in this is fabulous. The mix of elemental powers with soulmates and an elite race is fascinating. This is a world turned upside down with a missing Queen. This queen is why the world is under rainy and fog for over thirty years. How does one survive without sunlight? It's unbearable and I'm surprised there aren't more suicides.

The characters in this story are endearing. Sari is a woman who's lived a hard life. She's orphaned and then sold to sexual slavery. Doing the best she can, she survives and travels all over this world. She could have been designed to be a victim, instead she is a survivor.

The two queen's consorts, Calder and Taryen are held prisoner in the Sacred city. Without a queen, the women of this race are turning into avaricious corrupt forces perverting the way of life. Calder and Taryen are caught in this vicious web. They are forced to endure humiliation and sexual abuse constantly. The way they are treated is horrific.

The conflicts Ms. Moon creates in this is chilling. The amount of collateral damage is a first from Ms. Moon. It's a blood bath and yet it is so necessary. Sometimes the vermin needs to be cleared out.

The sexual tension between Calder, Taryen and Sari is smoking hot. Even before they go all the way, their foreplay is arousing and enough to make a woman's panty wet. As if that is enough, the sexual interlude between the two male consorts is blazing. The carnal pleasures in this tale is so good. There is a bit of torture from a sadistic bitch who is off her rocker. She abuses the flogger and it isn't enticing at all. My thirst for vengeance wishes she would have experienced the business end of many different implements.

It would be interesting to see if Ms. Moon would return to this world. There are so many things needing fixed. What would a mature Sari look like? How will Calder and Taryen grow with her? More importantly, will there be more smexy threesome sex? This fantasy book is recommended for kinky romance lovers who enjoy menages.

Kele Moon always writes a book with the right amount of steam and story. The Queen's Consorts is no different. I was immediately catapulted into another place, planet, time within the first few pages. A world that is in despair. It's queen is missing, and her consorts, the other parts of her soul are grieving. Because of this, the sun doesn't shine, nothing grows. The world is in disarray.
I was drawn into the storyline of Sari, a woman alone in the world. When she is rescued from a horrible fate by the royal guard they discover that she is special. One of the sacred.
When she is taken within the Sacred City to heal, she is give to the Queens consorts for healing. Caldar and Taryen have an even worse past and reality that Sari. In the absence of the Queen a collective of woman have formed a council and use the consorts for their own satisfaction. Calder is an angry man and Taryen a kind wounded soul.
But something happens, changes within them when Sari is brought to them. A connection and a yearning like nothing they have ever felt before, which leaves both wondering is Sari there missing queen?

To me, there is nothing better than a great ménage story. This one was hot, hot, hot! Erotically delicious, I was under the spell of this book. The details are what made it special and I seriously want to get some of those gold piercings! They just sound like so much fun! The world was fascinating and I truly hope we get more from this world. We need more scifi erotic romance!! It adds a bit of spice and gives us something different. Totally original and as per usual, wonderfully written. Kele Moon, will you ever write anything I don't like?

The magnificence and tragedy of divine love.

Interesting ménage set up. The story and plot aren't complicated or surprising, but the execution is nice and Taryen and Calder are wicked hot. Created for the Queen, they are destined to serve and protect her. Tragedy separates the trio during their youth, an event that never should have happened. During the power void, the council rises to lead the country.

Needless to say, this council is less than ideal for the country and especially hard on the Queen's consorts--who were left behind as infants. They endure with the hope that the Queen will return. The villain in this story is a bit undeveloped, more of a gruesome caracature of feminist sadism.

Taryen and Caleder are beautiful and resilient. They end up assisting a wounded sister brought in by the queen's guard, Sari. She is sexy and sweet and though they are tempted; they resist her. Sari, on the other hand, must make alliances within the court and quickly and her first dinner turns out to attract attention.

The subsequent intrigue and machinations of the court, the council and those loyal to the Queen are interesting and definitely assist with keeping a brisk pace even as relationships develop.

Overall, this is a good read with good characterizations. Nothing ground-breaking, but entertaining. Recommended for fantasy/sci-fi readers who enjoy ménage.

“Their souls are bound to hers. They were supposed to be with her always.”

Set on the planet of Auroria, Sari is on the run from a life of slavery with the Order of the Seven Swords. Venturing near the Sacred City, Sari meets up with a young girl, Aria, who is homeless in the streets near the capital. Sari, feeling an immediate bond with Aria, knows that unclaimed orphan females are usually seized for the underground sex market and therefore longs to protect the young, innocent girl with a zeal for life and hope for her future.

The planet’s ecosystem has not been fruitful for years, lacking foliage and sunlight since their queen was taken at infancy after an attack on her life by a coup of Rayians. Auroria and it’s atmosphere has been bleak since the queen’s exile and for females without lifemates, a very dangerous place to survive. Once the queen is found and returned to her throne in the Sacred City, she will once again be united with her male consorts, her lifemates who were born to serve and protect their queen until death. Only then will the planet return to it’s natural beauty and splendour.

“Her pleasure brings out the sun. Her smiles fertilize the soil. Her sighs make the winds blow and scatter the seeds across the land. Her tears make it rain, but if they’re tears of rapture, they bring out rainbows.”

Once Sari sets her mind to try and help Aria, they are attacked by a street gang and Sari is out numbered. Aria escapes and finds help from a friend, Marco, who is one of the queen’s guards. Marco sees the pendant around Sari’s neck and informs the other guards that she is a sister to the queen and therefore both she and Aria will take sanctuary in the palace to heal from the attack. Marco takes Sari to the queen’s male consorts, Calden and Taryen, knowing they will soothe and serve any sister to the queen until the queen is found. What they do not anticipate is the intense attraction and carnal desire both immediately experience with Sari. Sari has never felt a sexual attraction to any man until she is in the presence of the consorts and she is baffled and intrigued by it. It is known that the consorts cannot have a sexual relationship with anyone other than their lifemate, the queen. The consorts begin to question if Sari could possibly be their queen. But if she is, why doesn’t she know it? And if she’s not, and their passion crosses the line, it is ultimately a death wish for all three.

I am not an avid sci/fi reader but if anyone can persuade me with minimal effort to take a dive into a fantasy world, it’s Kele Moon. Pair the world with a hot menage and sex scenes penned with Ms. Moon’s unique and impassioned voice and the result is a sensual, satisfying read regardless of where the story takes place. While the setting definitely has sci/fi elements, the history of the Rayians, the language and the palace setting also provides a feeling of an ancient culture similar to the Roman era as well. The consorts, Taryen and Calder, are not only feared warriors, but they are lovers as well. Forming a relationship and bond since birth, their love and passion is solid and steadfast for each other as well as their queen. The fact that both Taryen and Calder are the most beautiful males in all of Auroria with bodies built like gods, pierced tongues and bejeweled cocks only enhances the desire Sari feels for them both. The consorts are in essence, slaves to the leadership council of the Rayians and therefore can be called upon at any time to serve the people for amusement, sexual favors, or whatever the council desires. Intelligent and loyal to their queen, they will do whatever is necessary to survive under the leadership of the evil Laysa until they are finally reunited with their lifemate who will ultimately take the throne and power over the planet.

“Hope gives strength and makes it easier to survive. So does surrender.”

Ms. Moon paints a vivid picture of the planet, how it is governed as well as provides a steady pace of action and suspense leading up to the queen’s return and the final battle for power over the monarchy. Rich in descriptive emotion and sensual passion, Ms. Moon provides a primal and soulful connection of the three main characters that is emotionally and physically charged throughout the story. As always, Moon’s writing is sultry and intoxicating allowing the reader to be swept into the emotional highs and lows that her character’s experience along their journey.

“Calder released Taryen’s hair, reached down, and touched Sari again. Only this time, instead of playing with her clit, he pushed his fingers into her once more, stretching her, making her shift over him in frustration. All his touch did was make her feel a strange, aching want that had her clutching around his finger. Never, in all the pleasure classes that she taught at the Order, did she experience something like this. The overwhelming need. The hunger to be owned and taken and dominated by males, not just any males, but two very special ones she would trust with more than her body. She felt like they owned her soul.”

When Kele Moon offered me a copy of The Queen’s Consorts for review, she informed me that the story became an outlet for all of the dark, sexual creativity she had poured into her novel, Beyond Eden She went on to say that while the Eden series is her personal twist on the Garden of Eden, The Queen’s Consorts is her twist on Mother Nature. Regardless of where her creativity stems from, what I have found is Ms. Moon always succeeds in captivating me with her stories, her characters and her love for writing is always visible within the pages.

Fans of Kele Moon’s work as well as readers who enjoy menage should definitely escape to this magical and sensual fantasy realm. Two warriors, built like the gods with an insatiable desire to please and serve should be all the incentive needed!

Oh Holy Mother of Hades, what a story, what a book, what an unexpected surprise to have found such a lovely read. See I’m always wary when I read ménage that involves a pair of males and a female, because most books I’ve read have been such a disappointment, but Oh My God, this book was excellent.

The story takes place in a world that Ms. Moon created with (I can only imagine) such care and devotion. The planet Auroria has a peculiar lifestyle and magic. The females are not only respected there, but called divine, especially those of the Capital. They are called Sisters of The Great Mother (the Queen) and each of them forms a bond with a pair of lifemates (two men). The energy between them comes then to a balance and the bond is a very strong one. The Queen herself has great powers and the lifeforce from the very planet is linked with her. When the Queen is happy the sun shines bright, when she is sad rain falls from the sky and when she is mad well… you get the picture. The Queen becomes stronger once she has created her bond with her consorts. They must also be very strong and powerful to help balance her and keep her happy so the rest of the planet can benefit from her powers. Hence they are joined with their Queen since birth, their time of birth close together. They share a life time only to be driven apart from their Queen for one year when they are seventeen. During that year the Queen must stay away from her consorts to appreciate their presence and never take it for granted and the Consorts themselves learn how to best please and serve her so when they finally come back, the sun will shine and their bond will remain sacred forever.

This is the world we dive in. This is the concept and their culture. This is how the very ménage that could be trite transforms to a majestic relationship.

But the last Queen was murdered along with one of her consorts and the Princess was rushed out of the walls of the Palace to safety. Ever since, the planet plunged in darkness and people forgot what sunshine was like. The commoners suffered in poverty and the Council of the Sisters gained great power, their greed insatiable, their hunger for blood terrifying. The few Royalist still devoted to the Queen are powerless and unable to prevent the most horrible thing of all, the abuse, violation and molestation of the Queen’s Consorts in the hands of the Sisters. The pair that share the same soul with the Queen, the very one that are supposed to be hers and hers alone are treated no more than sex-slaves and constantly tortured by vicious women in order to kill the moral of those who still believe in the Queen’s return.

No, this is not just a story with a threesome thrown in there and focusing on the sex scenes. This is a wholesome story of love, lust, magic and power. This is a story that will grab your heart in one fierce hold and shake you to the core. You’ll shudder in the violence that is hidden inside these pages, you’ll want to kill, maim, split in two and rip hearts out. You’ll want to be there in the midst of the battlefield, because there will be battles fighting when they make the final stand.

And you’ll fall in love divine. You’ll feel the brilliance of something unique and you’ll probably think “ what a great, great read”. I truly loved this book, everything in it called to me. Before I knew it I was so much engrossed with the characters, their story and suffering that the anger on their behalf took me by surprise, an excellent achievement for the author, quite a talented hand there.

And I could stand here writing and writing forever for this one, but I think I have already said enough. I have given you the set up where the story lies but you’ll have to take that step and jump into this world yourself and feel the story first hand, I can only say that it’s beyond worth it. Strongly recommended.

I didn't think it was possible. I didn't think you could have a plausible menage romance that was engaging and believable. I read menage stories under the covers in the darkness of night with no expectations of craftiness, character development, or a plot that makes sense. It's literary porn, after all. Kele Moon has put all erotica authors on notice. She has elevated the game with "The Queen's Consorts," a PNR set in another world that features a true, blue romance between one woman and two men who all are desperately in love with each other.

Its starts off with fantastic world-building that weaves the rules of a world where women are so scarce they are worshiped by men as gifts from the gods. Because males are in abundance, the custom is that two men form life-bond partnerships with each other and then seek out a female. This world is ruled by a queen who, for all intents and purposes, is Mother Nature. Her being is so tied into the spirit of the planet that when she cries tears of sorrow it rains and when she cries tears of joy rainbows appear. Moon weaves this mythology from the first page on through the epilogue, and it made me a believer of this fantastical tale.

Moon introduces the rules of the world immediately by telling us about the laws, for example flowers and any vegetation can only grow in green houses with artificial lights and its illegal to harm a woman's body, punishable by death. Then Moon shows the consequences when the rules are challenged. When we open, the world has gone dark and barren because the new queen has been missing for nearly twenty years. We open on Sari, who we soon learn is that long lost queen. After a brutal attack by street males, Sari is rescued by the Captain of the Queen's Guard. The males who attacked her are thrown into the dungeon to die. Sari is taken to the palace where she is tended to by the lifemates intended for the long lost queen: Taryen and Calder. Moon then takes a moment to show you the deep, palpable love these two tortured (literally!) males have for each other, and their confusion over their instant attraction to Sari. Tons of intrigue, political maneuvering, and cringe-worthy abuse unfold in the middle of this book, but what kept me turning the page was watching two men (who're evidently in love with each other) fall for this women, and vice versa...vice. I mean, sure, read it for the sex scenes because Moon does not disappoint! But stay for the romance that unfolds because it is truly something to behold.

One thing I've noticed about Moon's writing is that she has this amazing ability to write supporting characters in a way that doesn't overpower the main characters, but still makes you want to get to know them better. I was totally captivated by the "true heart" Kayla and her Romeo-Juliet-Mercutio romance. Please, please, please do a novella about the beginning of this amazing love story that we only got glimpses of. I'm also hoping little Aria grows up and gets her own story -with yellow flowers, a yellow dress and lifemates who come to adore her as I did. Please, please, please Ms. Moon. Please revisit this world in another work. Your mythology was too good for a one time trip!

I distinctly remember reading the Eden series by this author like 10 years ago lol. It’s always been a book that stood out in my mind. I should really revisit it.

Man... this was super sexual. It was a lot. Super sexy. Super erotic.

I adored Calder and Taryen! Loved them. Wanted to save them. All of that good stuff. They were adorable together. I loved their relationship.

All in all, I really enjoyed this! It was super smutty, so I probably wouldn’t recommend it openly to people. But man, I loved this. It was right up my alley.

4 stars.

In retrospect, I should have turned this one down. I’m probably not the target market, because I grew up reading science fiction and fantasy, and therefore have some expectations about world building, like consistency combined with cause and effect.

If I were reading only for the sexxors, I probably would have been happy. Sari, Taryen, and Calder are hot, and if one can dissect out the background, they do well together, moving from attraction with “oh no mustn’t touch” to “oh no but have to touch” to “touchy touchy touch” in what is a nicely paced and rather hot progression. In place it’s m/m, m/f, or m/m/f, elsewhere the action is m/f/m, and no one’s left to be the clap and cheer section. Sex scenes are occasionally marred by stilted dialog.

HOWEVER.

The world building is essential to the story, and it’s lacking.

This is a world that by definition has gone through the kind of cataclysm that should have brought governments crashing, economies crashing, populations crashing, and generally become post-apocalyptic. The weather went through an abrupt and apparently irreversible change in such a way as to ruin agriculture and keep it ruined, but hey, everything’s in greenhouses under lights, no big. It’s nice, orderly, and enough to support the entire population of the world and still have endless acres for flowers. The sun hasn’t been seen in close to 20 years, but only the street urchins seem to be starving and the elite sport tans.

The ruling class, the Rayians, can be identified at a glance, women are outnumbered three to one by men and are considered divine apparently just because they’re scarce, but an elite female can be kept as a sex slave without comment. Not only that but she’s still virgin, even though she’s been the chief instructor for “how men should pleasure women” classes. At apparently age fifteen. Or maybe younger. It's very handwavy.

An elite class woman can appear out of the blue without introductions and antecedents, and be totally accepted, at least at on the surface. Sorry, that didn’t work in the Regency era, and it doesn’t convince me here. This is a small enough group that everyone would know everyone, or know their people, but Sari’s included in the very top levels without a blink. There’s only one obvious candidate of this age bracket, and no one aside from She Who Knows even thinks of it, and she seems to be insane.

Most of them seem to be insane, actually, resulting in an entire flock of the sort of Evil Harpy #2 characters generally reviled in m/m. Their entire thought process seems to be “let’s torture two of the three people who could really, really, get even with us if our grip ever slips.” Otherwise, not a hint of nuance, and no one actually seems to be running things.

Everyone finally does get laid, wrongs are righted, in that order of importance. There’s a reason the old queen traveled around the realm, but Sari’s fine with sitting in one place licking her wounds for more than half a year while the problems of her people and her country *that she could be fixing* are allowed to persist. She’s traveled the world undetected (!) in her earlier days, seeing the troubles first hand, so she has no excuse for delay. Even Sari describes herself as useless during this period, and she's right. Her consorts have been ruined with their sycophancy training: neither Taryen nor Calder kick her butt into action.

In the name of genre I’m willing to accept some of the more fantastical elements, such as facility of languages, elemental connections, and even, I choke to say it, the soul-mate issue. However, in exchange, I want the ordinary parts of the story to make sense, and plot points that are made to seem important to actually be important. The true heart issue is one that felt tacked on - apparently one needs to be a genetic weirdo to be a kind person on this planet. Many issues I’ve mentioned and several I have not have been tossed at the story without their ramifications being considered, and I am not one of the readers who will shrug at their mismanagement because the sex is hot.

I actually set this book aside at the 25% mark for several months and would not have finished it except for the sense of obligation. Read it for the sex and the relationship, and gloss past everything else if you value the fantasy genre without the sex.

This was quite a good menage sci-fi read that surprised me by being more than I thought it was going to be after reading the first couple chapters. I was fully expecting complete hokeyness in regards to the plot which I was going to suspend in favor of some good menage action. What I got was a well developed and believable story complete with a very well done M/M/F menage relationship that was passionate and intense. I didn't realize this was a Kele Moon book and if I had, maybe I wouldn't have been so pleasantly surprised as I've read other books by her but for some reason, I didn't even notice the author's name when I picked this one up. Now, I'm not so surprised by how good it was.

Quick Rundown: The book's description won't be better than mine but I will add that this book is so much more than it's description. I'll leave it at that so you can be pleasantly surprised as well.

Characters: The characters start off by being kind of fluff. What you end up discovering is that the characters are more complex and have gone through some major shit in their lives. While I didn't necessarily see a lot of growth in the characters, I saw more being revealed about them as the plot progresses and that captivated me. The chick was strong and intelligent with a good sense of right and wrong. The Dudes M/M relationship was loving and I really felt empathy for their situation. The Big Bad here was more complex than I expected and the battle against it was not easy and didn't turn out the way one would hope.

Plot: This too seemed like predictable menage fluff but turned out to be full of political intrigue, a tale of yearning, and a story about a pre-destined love which one is never sure is coming to come to pass. There were plenty of twists and turns. A large part of the ending is a huge battle scene/sequence of events that really made it a page-turner and I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen. The epilogue was not all rainbows and fairy tales but was completely satisfying. It wasn't all tragic either. I did not leave this book wanting any more out of the story than was given though I am going to check her latest publications and snatch up a few more good reads that I may have missed.

World Building: Pretty fair. I had a good idea of what this world was like and can't recall any confusion as to location or the culture.

Overall: This was a win for me. It didn't blow me away enough for a 5 star rating but it was money well spent and I have no complaints.

Kele Moon is one of my new favorites. I'm totally into her Battered Hearts series, and while her Eden series isn't my cup of tea, she always has good characters and strong emotional journeys.

The Queen's Consorts takes us to another world, the planet Auroria, where men outnumber women so much that a normal marriage consists of two men and one woman. The planet's ecosystem is directly tied to their queen, who has been missing for twenty years after an attempt on her life at infancy. Storms reign the land and the sun hasn't been seen since the queen last was, and the entire world is a tough, dangerous place where survival is a struggle. We meet Sari, a young woman on the run after escaping a life of slavery, whose big heart gets her attacked by a street gang while trying to save a little girl. Sari is brought to the palace to recuperate when soldiers discover she's a Rayian, one of the ruling race. Sari herself had no idea of her background and is introduced to luxury and ease (and super sexy Rayian men) for the first time.

Now Sari's "secret" (if you even want to call it that) is obvious to the reader at about 3 pages in. But I really like when the author gives the reader knowledge that all the other characters don't have. Sometimes this technique backfires when characters are too stupid for too long, but IMO, things played out here very sensibly, with suspicions and revelations happening pretty naturally.

Moon also does a great job with the narrative conflict. She keeps the intensity on high as the torments and horrors build on these characters. The fact that the bad guy (or gal as it happens) wasn't terribly dimensional didn't distract. Action scenes are handled well, and I didn't feel rushed through the story at all; great pacing. Sari and the two lifemates she meets and falls for, Calder and Taryen, are a great team, super steamy, and supporting characters shine as well.

I really liked this world and hope Moon will set other stories here. I don't seek out M/M in general, and the finer points of a monogamous trio (duogamous?) still leave me scratching my head (from a human nature/jealousy perspective), but this book was totally entertaining.

This was a very good fantasy story set on another world (which could give it a scifi tag, but it was 3/4 fantasy and 1/4 scifi). A solid MMF with MM and MF scenes throughout. In addition, there were some interesting BDSM elements, some of which were intentionally unpleasant.

The characters were strong, the society had depth, the "magic" was consistent, the fighting was exciting, and the sex was hot. What more could you want? This may be the best book I've read in this genre.

More reviews available at my blog, Beauty and the Bookworm.

There are some books you just don't want to cop to reading, and I admit, a "menage a trois" romance for the Unapologetic Romance Readers' 2017 challenge was going to be one of them for me, no matter what the specific book ended up being. And yet here I am, admitting it to the internet at large.

I have to admit, finding a book for this category was a struggle. Why? Because most books involving a menage are not going to be romances, they're going to be kink erotica and probably not all three parties are equally invested in the relationship; hence were my findings as I trawled through Goodreads lists. Why did I end on The Queen's Consorts? Well, it was an actual novel, which meant there would likely be some semblance of plot beyond just sex, since shorter pieces in erotica subgenres tend to be "characters meet, characters fuck, end scene." Also, it was a fantasy/sci-fi book, which made it more reader-friendly to me and I actually think helped integrate a three-member relationship better into the story.

Heroine Sari is a young woman living on the streets after escaping years of sexual slavery in which she managed to never actually have sex--because of course, the heroine's virginity is tantamount to her goodness. *eyeroll* While helping a little girl who's also on the streets, Sari is attacked and almost killed before being rescued by a royal guard, who recognizes that she's of higher birth because of the streaks in her hair. (Basically, society here is the upper class, which all have streaks, and the lower class, which doesn't, and it's all very weird and kind of racist in its own way.) He also recognizes a pendant that she has, that no one else has recognized in all her years even though it means she's the queen who went missing when she was a child! Gasp! Who would have thought! So he brings her into the palace and turns her over to "the queen's consorts" so they can take care of her while the guard puts things to rights. You can imagine how well this goes. Of course there is scheming and a coup and lots of sex in a magical bath along the way.

Let's start with things that I think worked for this book. As someone who is not big into "kink" erotica, I liked that Moon set up her world where it is the norm for people to be in triad relationships composed of two males and one female, though it does make one wonder where all the lesbians are. This norm made it easier for me to slip into the story and also did away with a threesome being something that Sari herself had to get over. There's also some interesting mixing of sci-fi and fantasy; magic abounds, from how Sari's emotions control the weather to how there are magical healing baths, but there are also "bolter" weapons that seem more like something out of a space opera. And finally, there were some good supporting characters beyond Sari and consorts Calder and Taryen; Macro comes immediately to mind, as does a "sister" that Sari encounters in the palace. The writing was okay overall, and I will say that Moon can write a pretty good sex scene.

And as for what didn't work? Well...I mean, Taryen and Calder's entire purpose in life is basically to give Sari orgasms so it will be sunny, which really seems to diminish Sari's purpose. The planet seems to have run completely fine without her except for the weather, and having role of "orgasm to bring the sun" kind of reduces her to a sex object more than I'd like. Also, all of the "sisters," aka others of the streaked-hair upper class, are basically evil, with the exception of one. There is rampant sexual abuse of Calder and Taryen throughout at the hands of the sisters, which was hard to read. And, while the world has some cool elements to it, it never really felt complete because Moon speeds through the book from sex scene to action scene to sex scene again, back and forth with little space to actually develop any of the world or characters--as they come to us is basically as they leave us at the end of the book. And, am I really supposed to believe that Sari managed to not be found for years and escaped sexual slavery without having sex? Because I don't.

Overall, I think this was kind of trying to be a Luna book (a publishing imprint that focuses on romantic fantasy novels!) but it kind of missed the mark because it just wasn't fleshed-out enough to shine. There were some strong elements to it, but they weren't really tied together and kind of fell apart when Moon moved from one to another. Unfortunately for me, this is a category in next year's reading challenge for the Unapologetic Romance Readers, too, so maybe I'll pick up another of her books if they fit and see if they're any more polished.

4.5-5 stars

This was a great book! I loved Sari, Calder and Taryen and was rooting for them from the start. This is the first book by the author that I've read and based on this I'll definitely be trying more of her work.

Sari grew up as a commoner and has had a hard life that she's struggled to get through. She gets herself in trouble when trying to help a young homeless girl she meets and ends up getting beaten and almost raped. The Captain of the guard saves her and, recognizing that she's not a commoner, takes her inside the Sacred City where she can be helped. When she wakes to find she's been left with Calder and Taryen to be healed she's unsure what is going on and is understandably wary.

Calder and Taryen are the consorts for the missing Queen. They were both born at the same exact time as the Queen and have been trained since birth to serve her. Unfortunately, the previous Queen and one of her consorts were killed and the Princess has been missing for years. No one knows what happened to her and Calder and Taryen have been enduring much at the hands of the "Sisters" (other women of high birth that wish to usurp the Queen's place) while waiting and hoping that the Queen is still alive and found.

Calder and Taryen help Sari heal from her beating and start to get to know her. From the beginning, both the men are wary of her because she's another "Sister" and the they have always meant pain and degradation to them. As they get to know her though, they realize that she's much different from the others and they find themselves strongly attracted to her. This is dangerous for all of them because if the men have sex with anyone but the Queen there are heavy penalties for them and death for the woman. Regardless of this, The trio is strongly attracted to each other and has trouble denying it. Sari starts getting settled in to her new life but finds that many of the "Sisters" are greedy, horrible women who just want power and will do anything to get what they want.

Laysa is the head "Sister" and the wanna be usurper to the crown. Laysa ends up causing major troubles because Once that is all taken care of, Sari, Calder and Taryen come out of it safe and happy. They recover and start using their power to change the world for the good, using their past (sometimes bad) experiences help guide them in how they can best help their people. I was very happy with the ending and their HEA.

This was a great story! I loved Sari, Calder and Taryen and really enjoyed their story. The story and all the characters were so engaging and interesting that I hated to see the book end. I really wish this was part of a series just so I could have the chance of reading more. I'd recommend this book. 2 thumbs up! :D

Overall: Sari has been on her own for several years traveling, working as a pleasure slave and trying to stay safe. She meets a little girl and tells her about the Old Queen and the legend of her and her consorts. As soon as she is done telling the story a gang of young boys show up looking for the little girl and Sari does her best to deflect attention away from her and before she can get away from the gang they knock her out. Just when she thinks that all hope is lost a guard from the scared city comes out with the help of the little girl and realizes that she is Raiydan and that she belongs inside the wall. He sets her up to stay with the Queen's Consorts and from there marks the beginning of a love that was long thought to be gone forever. Sari witness that trials and abuse that the men receive from the other sisters, while also discovering her past and her true nature. There a few battles that are fought and a very good victory at the end. They get a HEA and start to heal each other truly.

Pros: The love been Calder and Taryen was something special for me to read about. Normally I'm not into guy on guy loving making, but there was something different and almost carnal in the way the author wrote it. It felt like I was Sari right there watching them make love to each other. I also really liked the dream that Sari had about the ocean in front of her and the mountain at her back. For me it added that extra touch to the details in this story.

Cons: I HATED Laysa and all of her evil little minions. This story was a weird mix of craziness upon craziness and I really didn't understand what the hell was going on until about 60% through the book. The ending also bothered me a bit because it felt like the author should've set the epilouge 1-5 years down the road so we could see how things really turned out and what changes the trio made in the world. I wish there was going to be a second book in the series because I would love to find out how this world ends up.

Characters: Calder ; Sari ; Taryen

Page Turner: Yes

Series Cont: No, but I wish it did!

Recommend: Yes!

Solid 3.5*

Let’s be honest – the genre of erotic fantasy is not known for character development and in many books, if you are lucky, you’ll get a smidgeon of most basic, simplistic story between pages and pages of sex. And let’s be even more honest – we do not read them for their literary merits and the expectation to see a decent storyline in the middle of the humpfest is not very high, at least not for this reader. Bearing that in mind, The Queen’s Consorts was a bit of surprise as it did exceed my expectations. I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. This was not an erotica with a bit of a story attached to it, but a nicely written and developed story with prominent erotic element. There was interesting world building, a nicely developed, sympathetic characters and genuine emotional connection between protagonists. The sex scenes were very steamy but not crude, crass or purely gratuitous fillers. While some plot points were not fully expanded and some secondary characters underdeveloped, there were no huge gaping holes. All-an –all, it ended up being surprisingly enjoyable, good read.

I love how Kele Moon writes menages! There's nothing I love more than a well written m/m/f! Most just come across as 'fluffy' or are plain ol' porn, but Kele manages to make an amazing story out of hers that still has plenty of smut:) I won this book in a giveaway and I'm so glad I did, since it bumped it up on my tbr list! It's set in a world where the Queen is connected to her planet, and the weather is controlled by her emotions. The current queen has been missing since she was a child and the planet is awaiting her return, stuck with an endlessly overcast sky. Kele does a great job of world building without overwhelming us with details, and jumps right into the heart of the story. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys menage and a hea:)

last update: at first I didnt think id like this book. I think it has alot to do with me being a slave maybe I dont know. But half way in. I like the flow of the story, I like how the characters come to life. How the consorts compliment each other in looks and personality. Separate yet not.

ok so Im done. The BDSM element was low except for the way the "males" were controlled. The menage aspect well hella ya!! Hot, just the flow of the story and how the characters came alive was awesome. The passion between the lifemates not just the leads but the other characters. I loved how Ms Moon put the control of the elements in the story and how it worked with Sari. All around it was a good read I enjoyed it and hope you all will also. Enjoy!!

Steamy as all get out Menage!! Watch it ladies these boys play for both teams and there is some boy on boy action! Yummy!!

I really intriguing story with well developed and engaging characters. I really like the whole trio and was rooting for them and their HEA! It did seem a little off balance at times but that is to be expected when two of the three people have been together for so very long before finding the third.

A fair amount of story mixed in and nicely paced.

Cover Art - Nice bot it didn't ring my bell.

I think this is probably one of my favorite m-m-f romance novels. I've been on a sci-fi kick lately and I really enjoyed this book. Definitely a darker side of romance, but I like the darker books. More angst to the story. I Do do wish the villains would have gotten more of a punishment and there was a little more m-m play then I usually like, but overall really great.

I had originally thought the book was a m-f-m story and I probably would not have read if I had known it was a m-m-f romance. I am glad I did though and will probably look into reading more books like this one.
