A Butterfly Came to Rest

Rate this book
A departed grandfather, affectionately known to everyone as Pappy. His final letters, ready to be delivered. A trip around the world for his adult grandson who just won’t grow up.

What could go wrong?

When Roke Nance and his childhood sweetheart set out to deliver letters bearing his grandfather’s last words, the world feels wide open. What begins as a relatively simple task becomes more, as the letter deliveries reveal a past different from family history, casting the old man in a checkered light.

Pappy hopes to dispense posthumous wisdom, Roke wants to find himself, and his girl intends to get their love back on track. The letters look to be the best way for all of them to get what they want.

A BUTTERFLY CAME TO REST is a story of self discovery, hope, grief, death, and life, with flowing prose reminiscent of Jack Kerouac and Dave Eggers.

A meditation on the impact of the past, it's told in the inventive voice of a flawed hero who tries to be the best version of himself, but does not always succeed.

Like all of us.
