One of my favourite books, ever. Dual timeline set-up, with both timelines equally well done. The parallels between the events taking place increase, the sense of foreboding and doom increases... yet it's not a gloomy book. If you love synchronistic events, events that seem fated, questions around free will and the like, and the South of France, you will love this book.

536 very hard going pages. Don't know why I didn't just give up, but I didn't.

If you want to read the 'story from teh past and story from the present running in parallel' theme, then pick up a Barbara Erskine.
