Many are the legends surrounding the wrathful primarch of the XIIth Legion. From the bloody sands of the Desh'ean gladiatorial pits, to the battlefields of Isstvan and the farthest reaches of the Shadow Crusade, the name of Angron is a byword for carnage and berserk fury... This exclusive eBook collection contains three seminal tales of the World Eaters and their gene-sire, by Aaron Dembski-Bowden and Matthew Farrer. Alongside the classic 'After Desh'ea', the audio drama 'Butcher's Nails' is presented for the first time in prose rather than script format. Finally, the brand new micro-short story 'Lord of the Red Sands' gives a glimpse of the past, along with a vision of Angron's own hopes for revenge and redemption in an uncertain future.

Was it a good read? Yes

Did it leave a bad taste in my mouth to pay 6€ for a 1000 word story along with two other stories that I had already bought twice each before? Yes.

There's a ceiling on these kinds of short story collections, I feel. All three of these could use expanding upon (Butcher's Nails especially, the dynamic between Angron and Lorgar is eminently captivating) as the whole collection can be finished in an hour or two.

This 6GBP/6euro book is comprised of three stories:
- one of which appeared in Tales of Heresy
- one (very) short story by Aaron Dembski-Bowden which does such a good job in capturing Angron's thoughts and feelings that it would alone deserve five stars
- one which is the script of the audiobook Butcher's Nails

The price iss not, at all, justified by the content of this book... I made a mistake in buying it, and I'd advise anyone against buying it.

Shame on Black Library for this kind of recycle-ware !

The Angron short story collection is an enthralling dive into the psyche of one of Warhammer's most tragic & brutal characters. This anthology offers readers a closer look at the Primarch of the World Eaters, his descent into madness, & the circumstances that forged him into the Red Angel of Chaos. These ones were greatly short & easy to breeze through, though still the depth put into this continuous exploration of Angron's psychological makeup is wildly engaging. Despite his reputation for unrelenting rage, the stories instead delve into his profound sense of betrayal, loss, & the philosophy of freedom he does anything to uphold after siding with Horus. Another strength of the collection is its vivid depiction of violence & warfare. The battles are described in visceral detail, capturing the ferocity of the World Eaters & the chaos they bring. However, the brutality is balanced by moments of reflection & particularly between the perspectives of those amongst his legion who witness Angron's transformation.

A nice anthology for the primarch Angron, though Butcher's Nail was presented as a audio drama before. The most incredible thing about Angron is that he might be the only traitor Primarch purely fight for freedom (because he's got nothing to lose) and the ascension became the best his choice during the heresy.
What if the Emperor helped Angron defeat tyrants on Nuceria? What if Angron was given a real chance to be a traditional hero? As a monster who was never given a chance to be anything else, he tried to seek freedom, but finally became a slave of chaos.
Still what made me see Angron totally differently was the novel BETRAYER, and this anthology is also a brilliant reading.

This anthology was not a jaw dropping thrill ride, but what it did do was lend depth to a character and a legion I previously viewed as woefully one dimensional.

Angeln grew vastly as a character in this anthology and my understanding of his character and philosophy (didn’t know he had one prior) grew alongside it.

Kudos to the writers, this was an excellent lore addition and accompanies the larger saga well as a character piece.

A great little collection of short stories, about one of my favourite primarchs. Wierd? Yes. There are 18, and my top three (in no order) are Gulliman, Ferrus, and Angron. I resonate with aspects of each.

This little book offers some great insights into the character of the Primarch of the World Eaters - and also his equerry, Kharn.

After Desh’ea by Matt Farrer:
Here we get to see Angron's fateful reunion with the War Hounds, and most notably, their captain of the 8th Company, Kharn. For the first time, we get to see the real innermost thoughts of Angron. We get to see how we speaks(or roars, to be accurate), how he acts, how he thinks, and everything glorious about the Lord of the Red Sands. As a World Eater(and War Hound) fan, this story was truly amazing. Finally getting actual prose to the meeting of Angron and his Legion is remarkable, and to have it done so well to boot is even more amazing. I cannot wait to see more of both Kharn and Angron in the things to come!

Lord of the Red Sands by Aaron Dembski-Bowden:
An interesting insight into Angron on Istvaan III, something I have really wanted to see since finishing Galaxy in Flames, Flight of the Eisenstein and Fulgrim.
Angron was more sane then, when compared to Betrayer, and getting to see his real character through the nails was a treat!
