I have to preface this review with, my grand daddy was a preacher, and I was raised with a very specific view of JC. In college, I rebelled and started hanging with a coven, just to thumb my nose at what I considered propriety. Since then, I've mellowed out in my views, and while I consider myself Christian, I do have a sense of humor about religion.
With that said, this book was hilarious! I'm not sure what Mr. Mason was trying to get across with the book, as I read it twice, once for entertainment purposes, and then once (like the lit teacher I used to be) to try to find an allegory or something somewhere. I couldn't do it. It made me laugh out loud, and then try to stifle the laughter because I was getting funny looks, and couldn't explain to my nine year old why I was laughing.
It reminded me a little of the old Monty Python shows, and sort of reminded me of some of Kurt Vonnegut's narrative style. If you are looking for something off the wall, irreverent, and silly, that reads like a really long dirty joke, look no further.
