Delilah is only a nerdy coffee clerk in New York City whose biggest problem is trying to find a job that will cover more than her rent, until the day one of her customers collapses after touching her.
Now she has demon hunters and witches chasing after her, and is being tailed by a crazy blonde in a Ferrari who says she wants to be her mentor. Oh, and she just might be a succubus.
Whatever you do, don't say it can't get any worse.
Paranormal romance novella/novel of approximately 46,000 words.
I read this book on Wattpad as it was a featured free book and it was one of the best books I'd read all month. Mr. Garcia's writing is fresh, funny, and highly entertaining. Delilah, the main character, is everything I look for in a heroine: smart, quirky, not opposed to a make-over, and is able to bring her A-game when facing down a trio of evil succubi (even if one of them is her very own mother). There are fabulous supporting characters, and even a love interest that is ridiculously drool worthy.
This is exactly the kind of book I would PAY for any day of the week. My only complaint is that I have to wait for the second book in the series to come out...this is the end of book that you finish and immediately look for the next installment.
Overall a great read and one I absolutely recommend!
"The Succubus in a Red Dress" by Daniel Garcia is a very entertaining short novel about a woman who turns into a succubus. While we follow Delilah and her personal transformation and her adjustment to the new lifestyle there is also some complicated romance and the evil succubus Queen and her 'society'. Written in a refreshing and often humorous style this is hugely enjoyable. Colourful characters, unexpected twists and a great pace made this a big pleasant surprise on my reading list. Highly recommended, not just to the many fans of the supernatural and paranormal.
I do have an answer to this very philosophical question: The Succubus in a Red Dress.
This book has everything. Comedy, New Experiences, Forbidden Love, Thrills, Excitement, and Nail-biting moments when you can't seem to move from the edge of your seat.
I found this book highly enjoyable. The author's insight into the mind of a woman was spot on, which made this read so intriguing. I read it all in one sitting, it's one of those books that you just can't put down until you've finished it.
The only complaint that I have, the sequel hasn't been published yet!
The Succubus in a Red Dress was a fun read. It's not my normal genre but it was a fantastic surprise. I enjoyed reading about protagonist Delilah, and her naivete at the beginning. I love that she grows and is a real character, with a mix of normal and abnormal struggles - including dealing with her own mother in ways that makes anyone else's parental struggles seem small and insignificant. I look forward to reading more of Dan Garcia's work - very well written and entertaining!
This book has so many twists and turns a reader can get dizzy. Author Dan Garcia writes the story with the humor of some of the classics like Buffy & The Vampire Slayer. The characters are endearing. Delilah is the most delightful succubus to ever reside beneath a book cover. And who are the villains? Just when it seems obvious, another surprise awaits. Succubus in a red dress is a carefully plotted novel sized book. I would advice all who enjoy lighthearted but gripping otherworld stories to snatch this one up while it is still .99.
You know how sometimes you want a kobe burger with a pesto aioli and a gourmet cheese you can't pronounce and sometimes you want McDonalds?
This book...is not aiming for gourmet. It's meant to fulfill all those insta-cravings? Insecure girl who gets cute guy to notice her? Check. Makeover? check! Super cool powers that throw everyone into a tailspin? Check.
Depth and interesting characters? Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
I don't think after reading this book you'll be smarter or have garnered any new insight about yourself or the world. But...sometimes that's not what you want out of a book. Sometimes you just want to see a nerdy girl in glasses kick some butt and get a makeover.
If you're heading to the beach and want to conquer the equivalent of a b-movie in bookform while you lay out? Enjoy cheesy one-liners? This could work. Plus, it's free on Amazon!
And if you just want to read a succubus book because you want to read a succubus book? You can check out this list.
Succubus in a Red Dress is such a fantastic read! I loved the innocence of Delilah's character which seemed to marr with the traits shown by the other Succubi. Ken is the type of man you could definitely be smitten with - I believe I already am.
This novel introduces you to a paranormal world and I feel the author has only began to scratch the surface. I can't wait to read more about Delilah's development as a Succubus, and that of her friends - humans and hunters alike.
This unique take on the succubus mythology is one I have found highly enjoyable. The author's writing is quite captivating and has left me craving for more.
If I knew what 'succubus' meant, I wouldn't have picked this book. Good thing I didn't google it. Delilah's powers sound like X-Men's Rogue, but they're more powerful and advantageous to her. It was nice to read how most succubi exploit their powers, while some don't want to use them because it's wrong. Somehow, it reminded me of a few sly women and idiotic men I know. Maybe it's just my imagination, but the epilogue seemed like a parody of Twilight and I liked that. Assuming there will be vampires in the next book of the series, I just hope they don't glitter in the sunlight.
I thought there were some chapters missing because the story was going forward too fast. One was when Delilah found that she was a succubus, at that moment it made me frown a bit and was in a bit confusion. The author isn't like other else that would turn the story into spirals, which is my pet peeve btw. The book could have been longer but the concept of the story is good. I haven't stumbled upon such story. Great book!
The story is very light, and even though it was short, I liked how fast paced it was and sort of felt like a feel-good movie. I like Benito's character very much because he reminded me of my gay friends who are always fun, happy, and ready to back you up when someone wrongs you.
I LOVE THIS BOOK EVERYONE DRAG YOUR BUTT AND FREAKING BUY THE BOOK AND READ IT! It's amazing, NOT cliche (thank God for that) It's hilarious but also has action and some romance. PERFECT combination! So please read this awesomesauce book cause you'll be in for one hell of a ride :D
This book had me at the title because it is funny and fresh. The storyline itself covers an old topic, but approaches it from a totally different avenue with a totally different viewpoint. This viewpoint works very well because it is a very well written story with plenty of humor.
Book equals amazing! it was super short but i'm glad there's a second one. I found this on Wattpad and while I was reading the description I thought it was a must read book.
The Succubus in a Red Dress is quite funny and I was going to give it three stars, but I'm knocking it down to a two for the following reasons:
1) Benito. Don't get me wrong - he is sassy and I love a bit of sass... but he is also a massive stereotype. I wish books would, for once, have a gay male character who is not this camp caricature, the straight girl's BFF. It aggravates me that gay men are so rarely portrayed as just like other men.
2) Instalove. "Kiss me... We won’t have another chance,” he said, sadly. “And there’s no other way I’d rather go. At least we’ll have this.” Umm, HELLO Delilah/Ken you two have known each other for, quite literally, 36 ish hours. Enough with the melodramatic love crap.
3) Instalove hint number two: Chloe/James. Chloe has been wandering around for decades seducing men then ditching them when she's had enough. James has sworn to kill creatures like Chloe. And then suddenly after about 12 hours they're all 'oooh I could change my whole way of life for you'.
4) The length. This is a fairly short book, which takes place over 2/3 days. This is just not believable. Delilah goes from this person who accidentally hurts an old man at work and then another man when he attacks her but who really has almost no experience of using her powers and very little idea what her powers might even be and who also refuses to feed her power and, when she feeds it accidentally, disposes of it very quickly... to defeating the Succubus Queen and two of her cronies and becoming the new Succubus Queen of NYC in about 36 hours. I mean... COME ON. If mastering your powers and defeating the queen is so easy, why hasn't anyone else already done it?
5) Delilah's veganism. I have no problem with vegans. What I do have a problem with is vegans who have cheese in their fridge and who get turned on by men wearing leather trousers. I might also mention that red Chanel clutch she is so happy to get. The likelihood of that being some kind of animal skin I'm going to say is pretty high.
6) That total mess known as chapter eleven. This mainly involves Delilah's extreme character arc and some ridiculous fight scenes. What good is a demon hunter who can't even hold onto his sword, I ask you?
7) The epilogue, complete with bloody Regina George. Does this make me want to read the next book? Not even slightly.
This is all rather disappointing, because I did mostly enjoy the read. Succubus is nothing if not funny and Delilah could've been a great character had she had a slightly more believable progression. But... it just has too many issues for a higher rating.
Delilah is pretty average, she’s struggling to make ends meet in NYC working at a coffee counter for pennies when she discovers some previously unknown powers when she accidentally drains a man and almost kills a man.
Cue her new mentor, Chloe who has conveniently swept into plan and decides to take Delilah under her wing. She teaches her everything there is to no about enchanting men and sucking the life out of them. But our herione is not so keen on her new found powers and openly rejects them.
This book was a fun twist on the classic idea of a Succubus, Delilah is not your a-typical sultry seductress. She is clumsy and awkward and painfully relatable. I think we can all relate to that sense of not knowing what to do with your life and who hasn’t struggle a time or two. It was a quick read, it probably took me a day or two. It was an amazing book, and as if it couldn’t get any better it’s currently FREE on Kindle and Kobo. So Pick up your copy you won’t be disappointed.
Delilah is barely making ends meet at a boring barista job. Her whole life does a 180 after she touched a customer and he dies. She doesn't realize she's a succubus until Ken, a demon hunter, lures her out on a date with the intent to kill her. She meets her new succubus friend, Chloe, who takes her under her wing. They all have a battle ahead of them, so the succubus ' and demon hunters better learn to settle their differences and work towards the common good.
This book is an easy, fast read. If you're looking to start a lighthearted series, I recommend this one. I've already purchased the rest of the series and look forward to seeing how it ends.
I loved the handsome Kendall and nerdy Delilah and power hungry mother and party girl Chloe but for once in my reading history I wish the book was longer. I wanted more of Kendall's and Deliliah's "forbidden" flirtations, more chemistry, more romance. More depth.
Very interesting read. However, because of how short it was, the reader is sort of plunged into this world and practically dragged from one revelation to the next. The 'sink in' time is rather short and before you know it, it's over.
Recommended for a short read. Maybe for a break from longer books. Very laid back and fun to read. I will be reading the sequel.
