Dominic O'Brien is a British mnemonist and an author of memory-related books. He is the eight time World Memory Champion.

He began developing his mnemonic techniques in 1987 when he saw Creighton Carvello memorize a pack of 52 playing cards in less than three minutes on the BBC television programme Record Breakers. In order to memorize numbers, O'Brien developed the mnemonic Dominic system, which is similar to the Major System.

He gives lectures, and has been seen on television programmes such as The Human Body.

Dominic O'Brien had an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for his 1 May 2002 feat of committing to memory a random sequence of 2808 playing cards (54 packs) after looking at each card only once. He was able to correctly recite their order, making only eight errors, four of which he immediately corrected when told he was wrong.

I bought this book as my daughter is currently studying for GCSEs and I thought I might pick up some tips. Well, she is not that interested in the tips but I have been fascinated by some of the ideas in the book. I have read Tony Buzan before, I like his mind maps but found his memory techniques a bit cumbersome. Dominic's ideas are a bit more straight forward although the do take some work. The link words idea for language learning is great and is one of the ideas my daughter has taken on board and the Linkword website/app looks interesting too. (Although I have not bought it). I have not yet put any of the ideas into practice as it will take sometime. I am also thinking of reading some of his other books as I want to improve my memory for PIN numbers, passwords, names etc and this book was geared towards students. Maybe I will add to the review when I have practised the techniques.

This book should be considered a classic, not just for its revolutionary techniques, but for the incredible results it brings. I could learn hundreds of facts, foreign language sentences and more using this guide. This book helped me learn vast amounts of information quickly. Forget mnemonics and so-called learning techniques, the techniques here are proven by 8-times World Memory Champion. He writes succintly and encouragingly, and is a perfect friend to guide anyone through the world of studying.

I read it a month ago and it is amazing.
I am applying all techniques since then and I am finding all of them effective.
In our schools and educational institutions, everyone just say us to learn things but nobody tell us how to learn. So this book will probably give you a method.
I am applying techniques given in this book. I am creating connections between words (mnemonics) so that I can easily remember.I have also made my own Dominic system for numbers which is helping me to learn history dates and It's great.
Whenever learning any new concept ,I start imagining the process in my mind , placing it at some location and bringing action into it. And then,I get grasp at that concept which is awesome.
It make my learning journey more interesting and happy.
It is recommended to all by me.

Did not read all of it, after a few examples it got really repetitive. I expected a lot more from it. Certainly because it comes from the 8 time memory world champion.

It's just a quick summary of the memory palace method and than a lot of examples of how to use this for different subjects. Which would have been alright weren't it very basic examples, I hoped it would go much more in depth. How to memorize difficult university concepts but this was more high school orientated, all really basic facts.

I can only recommend it if you really dislike studying, are in high school or elementary school and want to try a new study method.

I love this book. Reading this book helped me unlocked most of my potentials like believing that I can do more. I just didn’t like some of his tips in memorizing things.

2.7 It was really short and concise. It also covered all the subjects, but the main thing is that it was all about the technique known as memory palace.
