April 1, 2013I love blue collar stories and this one was good enough, I didn't expect the beginning being so angsty, I felt so sorry for poor Josh and later on he and Zach had a good chemistry, although I wish there'd be more getting to know each other and actually talking instead of that tension thing, which was kinda overdone in my opinion.

Josh Rand is obliged to leave his beloved New York and come back to his home town of Paris in Texas, when he loses his job and is unable to find a new one. Going back to his home town means going back to his bigoted father and to hide his sexuality to avoid troubles, and that does make Josh happy… until he meets his new boss, Zach McCaffrey, the foreman at his new job. Zach is sexy and Josh’ type, but maybe it is not a good idea to get involved with one’s new boss…
This is a sweet short story, about two men who are facing new challenges which turn their world upside down. Josh has to face leaving a comfortable position and starting a new work in a sort of hostile hometown. Zach is starting a new position, a long awaited promotion, and does not want to spoil his chances. That’s why when they meet, despite the insta-attraction they feel towards each other, they do not act on it. Till they meet outside work and let their emotions run freely. Although the idea is interesting, and the characters promising, there is a feeling of superficiality in the story, the characters are only skimmed, there is no enough insight, it feels a bit rushed. I think it could have benefited with a bit more length and attention to detail.

3.5 stars. A short read. I enjoyed the characters - Josh and Zane. The setting was interesting with both characters being involved in different facets of construction.
The story started off in a kind of depressing fashion. Josh had lost his job in NY, was flat broke, and had to move home to Texas with his intolerant father.
With the help of a relative, Josh gets a job working construction, where he meets Zach, the sexy (and also gay) foreman. The guys hesitated on getting involved with each other because of work until Josh gets a surprise opportunity.
I wish the story would have included more about Josh's father. The reader never meets him or gets any feel for how living at home is going for Josh. It kind of bugged me that Zach teasingly called Josh "Bimmer" because he drove a BMW. My last small gripe is that the story ended rather quickly. I was surprised when I flipped to the next page in my Kindle, and it was the author's bio.
Overall, a quick read with enjoyable characters.

September 24, 2013For a short story I thought both characters, but especially Josh, were well developed. The first scene, with Josh leaving New York and mourning the loss of his house was so sad, but so good to put the reader in Josh’s shoes; also the following travel back to Texas, all Josh’s life stowed in the trunk of his car, just a step before living on the streets, and that step is Josh’s father home, an homophobic father who will never accept Josh being gay. And then the first day at his new construction job, Josh meets Zach, a man who can be his dream man.
The story has the potential of being much more, and considering the subtitle Zach and Josh’s Love Affair, I have the feeling the author is indeed planning more for these two. Considering the preamble, I think it will be good to see them again.

Not bad but there was a lot of lead up then kinda hit a brick wall. I dont think all the lead up was worth it really. It just felt like the beginning was the start of a traditional story but the end ended as if it was a short story. I think it could be expanded easily tho if the author decided to do that in the future.

This book did not flow well for me, one sentence the guy was driving to his NY apartment and the next sentence he was packed up driving to TX, with nothing in between. I didn't feel any chemistry between either of the MCs, I just didn't connect with either of them. I had a hard time finishing this short story.

Characters had great chemistry
I loved this book it was really sweet. The main characters Josh and Zach are perfect, the right amount of chemistry oozes from them to keep the reader interested. Can't wait to read the next book

Bit angsty at first with Josh needing to leave NY and return home after losing his job but soon the tone changes and the chemistry between the characters is amazing :) I was happy to read the sequel right after this one!

JOSH JUST LAID OFF FROM HIS JOB, HE HAS TO MOVE BACK HOME WITH HIS FATHER. ZACH, HE ALONE AND LOOKING FOR LOVE. A GREAT BOOK. I ENJOYED IT. A MUST READ.
