Double Feature, Vol. 1

Double Feature Vol. 1 is the first in the series to present two books that are inspired by the double feature shows at drive-in's, theaters or on late night television. There is even a host, of sorts, called The Melting Man.

Both of the stories in this double feature are written so well.

They're detailed, precise, and visual.

There's blood, guts, gore and crazy scientists, and zombies.

It's 80s nostalgic fun.

Wicked Fun!

This was an awesome way to spend the weekend. Two of my favorite authors team up to bring us a double feature filled with zombies, gore, mad scientists, and much more. And apparently this is only the first of many! You seriously can't go wrong with anything by Berry or Tripp. Highly recommended!

I love this double-feature. Jonathan Tripp’s story was, it seemed to me at least, to be written in narrative style very closed to a screenplay. It made reading the story so much more immersive and visual. It reminded me of some SOV zombie movies, where the exterior scenes are too bright with too real sun, not like a Hollywood movie with its balancing, and it makes the peeling flesh and melting eyes and oozing blood and entrails even more unsettling with little shadow to hide any mystery. I’m not much of a zombie person, but this one was fun. Then, Brian Berry’s “Raptornator”. He’s an excellent writer. He writes beautifully, actually, but it’s not flowery. It’s precise. And he describes the gruesome and graphic and gore in a way nobody else can. You can’t help but imagine what it all looks like. I’m always floored by his writing; what I’ve read of it is dark and ghoulish and fun—sharks killing on land, bioengineered reanimated dinosaurs—but written with incredible skill. Can’t say enough good things about his work.
The book delivered on its promise—this was fun. I can’t wait for (hopefully) many more volumes to come.

This book has a introducer kinda like the Crypt Keeper. He doesn't really do anything like describe the upcoming feature he just sticks a vhs tape is a vcr and watches. There is two stories hence Double Feature. The first one one like a zombie outbreak on an island, apparently there are tribal cannibals on the island as well. Story was pretty good. The second one was like a movie you would see on the Syfy channel; a combination of jurassic park and lethal weapon. The story was really good even left a cliffhanger for a possible part 2.

I have to say up front that I identify with the Melting Man. Carrying around a tv, vcr, and bag of tapes, busting into houses unwelcome, stealing snacks, up for a double feature in the middle of the night, gone at dawn. What a life.

Jonathan Tripp and Brian Berry have created something special with their double feature. It's pure fun, full of homages to the age of video stores, and brimming with blood. The best part of it all is that this is volume 1 of many to come.

Jonathan Tripp writes and directs the first feature of the night. Nudge over the Melting Man, get a bite of brain, and adjust the tracking. Here we go. Flesh Eaters from Hell puts you in the world of Bruno Mattei, and it's mad doctors, natives, and zombies on an unnamed island in the Pacific. Tripp captures the dialogue, action, and horrors, channeling the pens of Claudio Fragrasso and Rossella Drudi.

Feature two comes from the mind of Brian Berry, and here I see the red globe of Roger Corman's New World Pictures plastered on the screen. What follows is Raptornator, a glorious romp of mad science (a connecting thread between the stories), paramilitary operations, and an armed raptor, a killing machine coupled with 1991 tech of the future.

Nostalgic fun that sent my mind through the hallowed aisles of a hole in the wall video store. Ready for more!

RATING Jonathan Tripp's story!

Awesome tale that delivers in the Bruno Mattei fashion of bloodthirsty zombies and cannibals. Add a special forces team, a jungle, a beautiful sea, you have yourself a fun, quick read that should satisfy Mattei fans.
