The Demon's Dealbreaker

Rate this book
A witch, two fairies, a minor god, and four demons walk into a bar and suddenly Dwyer Eamonn’s life will never be the same.

Turns out that Dwyer’s parents promised him—their firstborn—as payment when they made eight different deals with various supernatural beings. At the stroke of midnight on his twenty-first birthday, every single claimant comes calling, ready to make Dwyer their heir.

Unable to deny them all, it’s up to Dwyer to choose which supernatural being he wants to become by spending time with each of them. What does a witch do all day? Do crossroads demons really hang out on street corners? He has eight hours to learn about them one at a time before he must make a decision.

Right away, one of them draws Dwyer in like no one ever has. He doesn’t want to become a demon, but he does want to be with one. Is that even possible? And since choosing an heir means these people want to shuffle off their mortal coil, is love reason enough to make one of them stay? After all, they’ll have forever once Dwyer makes his choice.

Despite the absolute trash fire that was the last read by this author, my friend told me to try this and I found it to be absolutely delightful. Super unique, super fun, not too deep but not so fluffy it was stupid. Loved the little twists at the end.

That being said, I want to reiterate the fact that nearly every author I’ve read this year has been so inconsistent from book to book, that I’m convinced they’re either using AI or ghost writers. Or their author besties. Having observed how these authors interact and feed each other, I kinda feel like they all just write for each other and they’re not holding each other accountable. It’s why I want to quit MM.

But regardless, I loved this one. Whoever wrote it. 🤪

A fast-paced paranormal/Monster MM romance with a Human with choices, Fallen Angel with surprises 😉, & quirky story–RomCom with feels!
I've been curious about the series. I sampled this, it hooked me! Devoured this in around 4hrs. I love Dwyer & Tamiel, others too. It's D's pov only, I'd wanted Tam's too, but it worked (A future bonus?). My 1st book by Delaney, I'll be looking forward to more!

Dwyer (unique name!), botany graduate (I relate as Life science one!), had known of magic, got a surprise on his 21st birthday. Found his neglectful parents had made deals—8!!!— in exchange for their 1st born! Oh F' it! D's gay, sweet, sassy, resilient, forgiving yet revengeful.

The reactions are so fun 🤣. What to do? Well, the 8 need a heir..So D gets to know'em each & chooses one, easy eh 😏? The creativity, individuality, world-building, are so f'ing good. This can be a great setting for RH!

1 of the 8 stood out to Dwyer, not as a contender but more. Tamiel, fallen angel, gorgeous, caring, patient, possesive. A connection-at-1st-sight that deepens! They're HOT, T's Tentacock is sinful 🥵. Relationship, tho insta love, is so sweet. Finding more about him made me ache, T+D belong together!

The story has ✨drama✨ with The Glen, Witch, bat cave, menace, ghostly, Jinn, crossroads, Demon & porn, Money fae, Hell spawn, ego hits, Nature fae, unicorns, Fallen Angel, love, a sweet God, ascend, badass confront, HEA! Deal-breaking (I'd worried, lol!), reincarnation, rebirth?! Twists, OMG. Most guys are lovely, some pricks who end up (um?) not as bad. Found family 🥰. I enjoyed this story, liked the ending 😎.

P.s. So I've been overthinking. D doesn't hand-prep, Maybe a personal preference? There's always lube tho. Also, It's weird that D's old friends didn't contact him. Well, the story did happen in 2-3 days so can't show all. D's adapting so fast!

Story ratings: Enjoyed—> 5+/5

POV: 1st person, Single POV
1) The Characters & relationship: 4.8/5 (Insta but sweet. I wanted more!)
2) The feels: 🤯🧐😑🌝😏😋😣🤣☺️😊😗😒🤩🥵🥺😝😍🥰😎
3) Sexy/Steamy scenes: 3/5
4) Levels: Low Angst, soo very Cute, Low Dark
5) Build up & Style: 4.7/5

This was a fast, fun read with such a unique premise. Dwyer's parents made multiple deals with various supernatural creatures when he was a baby, trading their son for wealth and power. On his 21st birthday, all of these creatures (demon, pagan god, jinni, witch, fairy etc.) come to collect. Since their claims all overlap, they let Dwyer decide who he chooses after spending time one on one getting to know each of them. Despite the story's brevity, I was able to get a good feel for each character, and would love for some of them to get their own stories. And in case anyone is worried, there is an obvious love interest among the claimants, and his chemistry and relationship with Dwyer is both very hot and very sweet. There are a couple of plot twists at the end that in a longer novel, could have been foreshadowed better, but nevertheless, I'm very happy with how everything turned out.

A witch, two fairies, a minor god, and four demons walk into a bar and suddenly Dwyer Eamonn’s life will never be the same.

Turns out that Dwyer’s parents promised him—their firstborn—as payment when they made eight different deals with various supernatural beings.

This is 5000% a writing prompt I've seen on tumblr and I am HERE FOR IT

This is very much instalust/instalove between our hapless human and the demon he's immediately gagging for. Fortunately I was reading this for the hijinks and not for any kind of beautifully blossomed romance. The relationship part of it was kind of nice, in a bittersweet turned HEA kind of way.

The hijinks as Dwyer is forced to spend time with each of the supernatural beings that made a deal with his parents were mostly fun. There is some dubious consent involved with one of the beings but it is blatantly addressed and involves an apology and even a sort of redemption. I liked the premise and seeing a human thrown into this situation. Just as interesting was the epilogue and finding out what happened with the 6 other beings he doesn't choose (the 7th being the demon whose dick he's obviously gonna ride for eternity). I'm glad Delaney Rain included mention of them and the opportunity to build long-lasting friendships among the supernatural community.

I have mixed feelings for the big reveal around the last supernatural being as it implies that there is far less kindness and good in humanity than Dwyer had been led to believe his whole life. I think that part could have been toned down and stuck with only one or two benevolent parental roles. That would have been a better fit and hit the right spot emotionally. As it is, I went from being on the verge of being teary eyed to whip-lashed into "whoa that's actually kind of fucked up" confusion and depressing sadness in the space of like a paragraph.

This was a fun one. A group of deal makers of various supernatural species claiming the first born. I'm curious exactly how all these deals were made with each of them none the wiser. The fact that the parents sold their son that many times...they deserve a loooong miserable life. Yay for immortality. Apart from Patrick-dick move with the coercion- it was a fun group consisting of found family, and an instant fated mate. Here's hoping each and every one of them get a HEA, especially Lynch. I'd like to know who would tie him down. Great fun, more so that the son was all for screwing his parents over and breaking every deal.

All the Revenge

This was a fun read that takes Dwyer on a journey. When you find out why Dwyer and Tamiel have such a strong bond, you will spew all the "Awwws". All of the characters are unexpected and great beings. New friendships are forged and revenge is had towards Dwyer's parents, which made me so happy.

Definitely a 10/10!

I laughed, I jumped out of my seat, I ranted, and I cried. This story was so good. I love how everything worked out for Dwyer, I love that Gair got to have buddies, I love that Patrick got what he deserved. I loved this book. I will be reading it again. Also, we love Tentacock. We deserve Tentacock stickers

Such an amazing story

I loved the twists of this story and how it isn't like anything I've read before. I loved the characters and how it really was attention grabbing. The smut was also amazing but even being a shorter book it was so sweet. It ended well and wrapped things up. I enjoyed it

Not a lot of plot but very likeable characters and a sweet romance with a satisfying HEA. There are a few side characters I would love to read find their one too. Some said that they were lonely and that they were tired of losing people they cared for. Why didn't they form a friendship with other immortals before? Are they now?

terrific storyline and great characters

Rating: 4.5 🌈

Books like these are a reason I enjoy reading collections. The Demon's Dealbreaker (Possessive Love) by Delaney Rain is written by an author I’ve never read before and now I can add them to my list of writers I whose works I find very entertaining.

It starts with what should be a heartbreaking story and reveal to the main character on his birthday. His parents have sold him eight times to eight different otherworldly beings in exchange for various gifts/items. Without his knowledge and without each of the other beings knowing about the deals his parents made with the others.

It’s a dramatic open onto the moment where Dwyer Eamonn’s life shatters with the knowledge of his parents actions and the fact he’s been sold. To more than one person. To be specific to a witch, two fairies, a minor god, and four demons all of which have arrived to claim him.

To say they aren’t happy with the situation and his parents is an understatement.

Rain immediately sets about introducing the reader to all the claimants as well as giving us insight into Dwyer and his family history. It’s clear from the beginning that Dwyer’s parents have viewed him not as a child but as an asset and treated him just as coldly.

The format the author has constructed to allow him and us to learn more about the other characters brings a sense of urgency and connection to his fate. He has to learn about them and so must the reader. It’s a wonderful element.

However, it comes with the trigger warnings mentioned. There’s a scenario with a non con sex scene. I have issues with the ramifications from this episode in that I don’t think it shows the being ever realizing the cause and effect of his actions. And, imo, this is the only aspect of the storyline where I think the author doesn’t either fully explore here the gravity of a non consensual moment or it’s so weakens it with other elements that it might as well not have been used as all.

I think it’s supposed to be that, yes, all these otherworldly beings aren’t exactly “nice people” or have the greatest of personalities, at least on the surface. Our impression of them evolves as Dwyer spends time getting to know each of them in their respective worlds.

Some naturally are more powerful as characters because of the fact that they have bigger roles in the storyline and in Dwyer’s present life. But each of them is interesting and layered with a unique background.

Rain is also fond of creating unusual sexual body shapes for the beings here, tentacles do sort of make an appearance, even if it’s just one. Just an fyi.

I so enjoyed the ending. Did I wish for a bit more of a revenge aspect? Sure but it still feels so very satisfying. And I could certainly do with seeing more of the rest of the motley terror crew. Loved this.

The collection is an odd mix but this one is a definite winner. Grab it up but do heed the warnings.

The premise of this book and execution of it was well done. It stayed true to the synopsis and expectations of a fun read.

I enjoyed the good writing, it was basic without being overly complex. I liked that we got right down to business from page 1, which was great with these types of books🤌

Three things ruined my enjoyment though: the time Dwyer spent with Lynch (the demon who was set up as the worst of the lot, and me wondering in anticipation how their time would be spent together. I was astonished when the author went with only having this last a few paragraphs with little to no action/angst, nothing! Wow! What a let down!)

I think Tamiel and Dwyers relationship has all the steam, but with the insta INSTA love there is little substance to the pairing besides hot tentacle porn. And a weird thing even with this was that Tamiel never seemed to 'finish'🫡. As it kept going it was almost as if their sexy times ended when Dwyer had his happy moment. Weird choice for tentacle related fun writing ngl.

The last thing that just left me eye rolling was all the references to the author's political biases. The way it just merged fiction with reality when it *didn't absolutely need to be there* and was done for no other reason than to get their message across was off putting. If I'm reading about a dude getting d*cked down by a tentacle c*ck the very last thing I'd want to have that follow up with is dirty politicians needing to make deals with devils to get ahead in their campaigns. It took me out of the story at every turn because it was 90% of Dwyers understanding of who these supernatural beings make deals with out of all circumstances
of human suffering and desperation to be explored. Come on.

Tropes: demon x human, soul for a bargain, banter, immortal beings, monster peen
Review:
What a romp this was! Such a packed little novella, we meet Dwyer mere minutes before he turns 21 in the bathroom of a seedy club, and the moment he is 21, 8 beings appear to try and claim him as their heir after Dwyer's parents bargained their firstborn's soul to these 8 beings at various times. They eventually come to the agreement that Dwyer will spend a bit of time with each one, learning about them and their job to see if he wants to accept their claim on him. I really enjoyed the different beings we had, seeing a bit of how their magic and jobs worked, getting to know them and seeing who was wanting to be claimed, and who was happy to cordially rescind theirs. I was particularly curious about Tamiel and what his deal was with Dwyer. I think it seemed like he would be the obvious choice before we find out that Dwyer is supposed to become their heir and take over for them. I was curious the whole time going through how things would play out, what kind of things we might learn about the characters, and while I wasn't exactly surprised with who he chose, the reasoning was rather surprising, as well as another revelation about Dwyer himself. There was so much fun packed into this, and I was glad that Dwyer kept a friendship with all of them in the epilogue. I loved seeing him interact with them after the whole ordeal, and I just know that his future is full of fun and mischief.

Eight paths one soul

A bit fun, a bit kinky, and then full of some unexpected and truly emotional reveals, this book was exciting from start to finish!

Dwyer always knew his parents sucked and had used supernatural abilities for all the wrong reasons, but he didn't know that they had done it by selling Dwyer out to a bunch of supernatural entities. When all eight come knocking on his twenty first birthday to get their payout life starts to look a lot more complicated for him, but there is also a chance that life could become even more than it ever has.

It was great how each interaction with the eight supernaturals was unique and really showed Dwyer a different part of the supernatural world but also made him think of a different part of himself and his future. While learning to become a new supernatural does sound exciting, there is also learning about what would change, what he could lose, what life will look like. From supernaturals who were jerks about what it would mean and some sexual coercion, to others who were caring and curious, it was an interesting experience and really made it something to think about. At the same time the kinky bits were just the right kind of hot and the problematic bits were never glossed over but instead revealed and dealt with. The revelations at the end came right out of left field and were so great, really making this book just a fantastic all around read and definitely worth the time!

Dwyer Eamonn’s parents did a deal with a variety of supernatural for their firstborn and suddenly on his twenty-first birthday, they all turn up to collect. So he suddenly faces a witch, two fairies, a minor god and four demons are there to make him their heir. So Dwyer needs to choose which one by spending eight hours with each of them to work out what they actually do all day. One of them draws him utterly but choosing an heir means these people want to shuffle off their mortal coil, is love reason enough to make one of them stay? After all, they’ll have forever once Dwyer makes his choice.

This was a complex tale as Dwyer navigated between the supernatural beings working out who he wanted to become the heir to. I did like the final solution but it was a bit torturous to get there and felt a little muddled with the merging that happened sometimes. I'm wondering if there were just a few too many supernatural creatures involved hence why it felt as if he skipped some of them. This is an MM story with mature content.

Funny, sweet, and endlessly entertaining

This was such a good book! I’ve been waiting (very impatiently lol) for this book for what seems like forever and it was even better than I expected. It’s fun and quirky and I love the supernatural world building but it’s also achingly sweet and romantic in all the best ways. What I love the most is the found family at the end - it gives the ending such a warm glow. I love books that leave you feeling happy in a bone deep way. It’s just so satisfying and when you add to that the fun that was had along the way it’s even better. I desperately hope that Delaney writes every one else’s stories (I won’t say who is left so I won’t give any spoilers) and I really, really hope that even though a certain someone has now passed their role on to Dwyer, that they find someone to give them a HEA and a reason to stay with Dwyer and all his new family forever.

The Demon’s Dealbreaker gets started with a bang and never slows down.

It’s pretty much a classic set-up: A witch, a minor deity, two fairies, and four demons of various origins walk into a bar. And the human is screwed (and, since this is a romance novel, sometimes in the best, most creative ways). Turns out, Dwyer Eamonn’s parents are terrible people, and they sold their first-born to several supernatural beings as their heir. Instead of fighting over him, the eight decide to let Dwyer choose after spending time with each of them and seeing what they do. But Dwyer feels an immediate and powerful connection to the fallen angel Tamiel — but will that affect his choice?

This is a fun, fast read with some insta-lust/love, some steamy good times with supernatural appendages, and great snark and ridiculousness. I’ve been meaning to try this author for awhile, and I’m so glad I did. I’m not sorry; you won’t be either. Definitely recommend.

I didn't know quite what to expect after reading the first few chapters - this one could have gone so badly wrong and in so may different directions, but Delaney Rain very pleasantly surprised me by making it work out as it did. I love Tamiel, and Dwyer, the characters are well-developed & very relatable, if not likable - still wanted to punch Parker, and Dwyer's parents, good grief! The HEA was fitting, satisfying, and just made my heart happy lol. The twist thrown in the middle about the 2 MCs took my breath away, and I loved how the author wrote it out. Great story, interesting plot, kept me on my toes and definitely invested.

This was a bit confusing in the beginning, but I really liked Dwyer and also Tamiel. The side characters were pretty entertaining too like Patrick, Lynch, etc. I would have liked to see a little more of Dwyer’s life after he made his choice between all the people wanting him to be their heir. I really wasn’t sure who he’d chose, but it was obvious once we got to the end of the book. The story was heartwarming, spicy, funny, etc. I enjoyed it a lot overall. It was a bit short, but I think it handled the plot well in general. Maybe 4 out of 5 stars since I would have liked a little more of Dwyer and Tamiel as an official couple in this lifetime.

Dwyer's parents are di%kheads. They struck deals with eight different paranormal entities (demons, leprechauns, witches, etc) for wealth, power, youth, protection. In exchange for their first born son...him.
But only one can claim him as his heir apparent. And through some strange loophole Dwyer can choose. But who will it be? And why does he have an insane instantaneous attraction to the fallen angel in the group?
This was quite entertaining and follows Dwyer's exploits as he hangs out with each one to try to determine who's heir he wants to be. There's an undercurrent of a love story too along with the adventure.

At first I thought this book would be pure erotica. And that would have been totally fine. But it really is so much more. Dwyer, a just turned 21 year old human, needs to chose between eight paranormals. Each one wants him to be their heir.
The story was sexy as all hell, the kind that melts your kindle and leaves you smiling. But beneath the smexy is a young man searching for love. Even if he didn't know it. There is found family, as even immortals get lonely. And a tentacle.
Delightful fun. The writer has a light touch. A quick read. Pure (impure?) delight.

Wow!

I love a good demon romance, but this was so much more than that.

Dwyer's parents made deals with multiple supernatural beings, all so they could live their perfect life. The deals? Each of them used Dwyer as collateral.

When they all come to claim their side of the deal, craziness ensues.

I absolutely loved Dwyer, and it was so fun reading as he figured out each deal. I was surprised at the amount of emotion the end drew from me. Happy tears fell, for sure.

Highly recommended!!

This has an amazing premise, and the ensuing story is a rapid fire exercise in trying to maintain that. It largely succeeds, and I unexpectedly teared up twice. I think the decision to keep this short was a good one, but maybe an extra chapter or two would have helped me keep all the players correct in my head.

(I also await the addition of the cover for this book that matches all of Rain's other covers to the GR database, so I can swap over to that one. It was on my KU borrow, so I know it exists!)

THE DEMON’S DEALBREAKER by @authordelaneyrain

I went into this book knowing I loved the author and that was about it. I was not disappointed! There were so many layers to this book and I found myself being so sad as things progressed because I wished it was longer. Tamiel and Dwyer were just…. SO CUTE AND SO SPICY! Thoroughly enjoyed… maybe someday we can get a series where Lynch finds his love? As well as the rest? I’d love that. They all seemed to be so lonely!

A young man’s adventures with spells.

Super fun read that I gobbled up in one sitting because I enjoyed it immensely. Delaney Rain adds a marvelous story to this collection about demons with this story about a young man called Dwyer who has to spend time with different supernatural beings. Very different use of various tropes and clever solutions to various problems. You won’t understand till you read the book so I encourage you to do so.

Another great Delaney Rain book!

Dwyer was a hoot! And the cast of characters were great. I love the interactions between Dwyer and the supernatural creatures trying to claim him. Ms. Rain has a way with writing stories with lovable "monsters" that makes the reader cheer for her unconventional lovers. This book has an assortment of magical and supernatural creatures, but the love story is the gem.

So not what I expected

I didn't read the blurb, so I wasn't sure what they expected, but this book met and exceeded my expectations. We meet Dwyer in a restroom on his 21st bday. He doesn't know what his parents had done, and now he is facing the consequences of their actions.

This book has amazing main character build and touches over smaller characters, which is perfect because too many characters ruin a book. This was a sweet journey to finding himself and love.
