Mattie Crockwell spends her evenings with the man of her dreams, Lord Ashton of Sinclair House. That he is a character in her historical Georgian romance novel is her little secret. She’s read the same out-of-print book every night for months, anticipating the moment when she settles in for sleep and dreams of the passionate embrace of Lord Ashton. But sleep eludes her one night, and she can’t find her way to her dreams and Lord Ashton. A full moon compels her to wish...for a real live man like Lord Ashton.
William Sinclair of Ashton House, escapes from one of his mother’s interminable matchmaking dinners one night and steps into the garden to wish on the moon for he knows not what. A woman who can love him and not his fortune?
Mattie and William have no idea that wishing on the moon at the same time for the same thing has consequences, but they soon discover that a full moon will grant them their heart’s desire when Mattie finds herself with the man of her dreams...in 1825. Can Mattie survive life in the Georgian era? If not, can William bear to let her return to her own time?
I've been writing romance fiction since 2006 and have published 20 books. I write time travel romances, contemporary romances, romantic suspense, and light paranormal romances (lovelorn ghosty stuff).
A gypsy at heart, I've lived in Aruba, Venezuela, Arizona and California (thanks to my parents, and in Guam, Wyoming, Washington State, Belgium, Washington D.C., Maryland, Montana, Turkey and Alaska (thanks to my time in the U.S. Air Force. Since then, I've lived in Idaho, Nebraska and Alabama in addition to visiting many more countries and states, and I'm determined to Goodreads friend everyone from all those places plus many more!
I absolutely love this book. I've read it many times. It's the first in a three book series and to my mind the best. Mattie Sinclair is a wonderful character and I'm sure lots of you could relate to her if you read the book. She's a romance reader like a lot of us here and is obsessed with one particular book. She leads a rather lonely life as she has lost both parents in the last two years. Then one night, while reading her favorite book, something magical happens. She then meets the man of her dreams, literally, and from here on in she's torn over the decision she has to make about her future.
It's a wonderful read and the writing is so good, so lyrical, the romance scences at the end will tug at your heart strings. I've read many of Bess McBride's books since but I don't think she's ever reached the heights she did with this one.
Still a five star read for me. Sure parts of it are a bit corny but I love the whole story. I recently treated myself to the paperback edition as I only had it on kindle. It's a real comfort read for me and we could all do with a bit of that at this time.
Waste of money; I almost didn't want to finish it. This book was a bit juvenile and I found all of the characters lacking in depth. The characters fell in love too quickly so that I was just being told about their love rather than sharing it. The side characters were almost not worth reading about because the author never expanded on their stories. Just filler basically. The heroine was contradicting. How can a woman who reads regency romance and historical romance ALL THE TIME not know to expect sidesaddle? Or duck? How was she not even expecting there not to be a toilet!? There were too many things that she was far too surprised over and it was unbelievable. Also, everyone was far too accepting of her little "time travel story" ... I feel like the whole climatic "drama" to this book was her having to use a chamber pot. Really? Not so interesting. Then she makes it out like she can't stay even though she obviously had no life back in her time - far too predictable and quite a lame plot twist (was expecting her to be the author the whole time).

I am surprised this is listed in Historical Romance. It actually does not have any romance in the book. It is a time travel story with a very minor element of a woman falling in love with a man she meets in the 1800's. There are about four pecks on the lips between the couple throughout the entire book. This book is appropriate reading for a young teenage girl. The author gets completely lost in dialogue that she forgets to put action in the story.
I'm not much of a romance reader, though my line of work often ensures I read them, but I actually enjoy Bess McBride's books. I think mostly it's the author's wonderful ability to translate the history of the world into a setting that is so familiar. Well done. IF you must read romance, then I suggest Bess McBride.
Mattie Crockwell is obsessed with a book set in the Georgian era and its main character, Lord Ashton of Sinclair House. She has been reading the book again and again for several months and dreaming of Lord Ashton8. One night, wishing on the moon, she is transported to 1825, and meets the man of her dreams, but the practicalities of the 19th century are much different than what she expected.
I normally do not read romances but having this one part of time-travel, and as I have enjoyed other books by Bess McBride, I wanted to give it a try. This was a light and entertaining listen, and visiting the 19th century has been kind of a novelty.
I had troubles to relate to the characters, as they were not very developed. We just know that Mattie is a romantic, and that William is a noble and fair man, but apart from having a different mindset than the typical of the era, I fail to see what William saw in Mattie. I also do not know what she saw in him apart from his good looks and what she read in a romantic novel. I think this story would work quite right if you are into this genre, but if you need something else to keep you going, you may find something missing here. There was no action or tension at any moment, apart from the times that Mattie had to fabricate a story to avoid questions from visitors. It could have been the general tone, imitating the 19th century style, but somehow the story felt a bit flat.
There were some slight comical moments on which Mattie is quite lost regarding the 19th century costumes, which I found strange, as she should have been familiar with the culture thanks to reading books set on this era.
There are constant POV changes, having one paragraph from Mattie’s POV and maybe the next from William’s, which were confusing at times.
I think Jane McLaughlin’s narration was quite good, not only using subtle different voices and styles for all the characters, but also doing a great job at juggling accents. The audio production was spotless.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This is a sweet clean, historical, time travel romance.
Mattie Crockwell has found the love of her life. Unfortunately he is a book boyfriend, until on the night of a full moon. Mattie finds herself with the man of her dreams...in 1825. The story follows their attempt to figure a way for her to return home. There are supporting characters trying to move forward in their romances. The listener travels along as they untangle feelings and customs to find happiness.A fun listen.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Jane McLaughlin was a delight to listen to.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
As usual, Bess McBride does not disappoint with this regency time travel. Wishing on the moon brings their heart’s desires to Mattie and William, but how will their differences allow them to live in his time.
Ms. McBride keeps the reader entwined in the story with her delicious descriptions and well painted scenes. This novel delivers everything a regency romance reader wants: a dashing hero, a beautiful heroine, and just enough anxiety to keep the reader hoping it will all come to a happily ever after ending.
I really wanted to enjoy this book. But the characters had no individual personality. They were all the same. Nothing overly exciting happened during the book. No real romance in it either. All the characters declared their love at the end of the book. But there was none of that exciting chemistry you get between two people who've started to get feeling for each other. and way to much dialogue with nothing happening. Perhaps the book is aimed at pre-teens??

I think the moon operating as the trigger for time travel in this book didn't work as well for me. So I am not over eager Plus, William was such a nice guy and Maddie seemed always a bit conflicted and verklempt. It was a cute story--however McBride's Laird series remains my favorite.
I have enjoyed reading this novel. My only criticism is that in some sections the prolong dialogue is unnecessary. However the plot and the characters were a very interesting reading. I am now reading the next book in the series
An extremely well written time travel romance. The development of all the characters especially William and Mattie will keep you totally enthralled while reading the story. I was fascinated and not able to put the book down. I highly recommend this tale.
oh, yawn! I was really hoping to like this because she has so many time travel novels, but it lacked... well almost everything AND suffered from perfect characters. Sigh. Time travel via simultaneous moon wishes was great premise and then nothing...
I truly enjoyed this book. The authors descriptions of the dresses and behaviors of that time period make for a great romance. I could totally understand each characters anxiety about living in the past or loving someone from the future. Very enjoyable book!!
I love time travel books. It's always been my best fanticy to visit in time. In this book she spells out the many adjustments that have to be considered between eras. Love it! Thanks for a great read!
great book! loved the characters and all the wonderful descriptions. Bess McBride is a wonderful time travel author and i love all her books. I cant wait to read her stories!
I love this book as I have loved all the time travel books. Bess McBride is the best time travel author and I look forward to more books in the future.
Bess was a new author for me and this was only the second time travel romance book that I have read so I was really curious to see how I would like it. It was a magical book where two people make a wish upon the moon which results in our heroine being transported back in time to her crush love from a romance book. I thought that this was a very entertaining plot for a time travel story.
The characters are very likable and interesting. The story itself was amusing and very enjoyable. It was well-written and very entertaining. At the end of the book I found myself thinking that maybe I should try making a wish on the moon too! I am looking forward to reading her next book in this series. This is a very good read, and I highly recommend it.
A really sweet story, and a seductive storyline. I've read a few like this involving time travel, and I rather liked the twist to make the story fit neatly together. I have to admit that I felt ... less than impressed with Mattie when she is so fully against staying with William. There didn't seem to be any discussion about any alternatives they may have had - like him joining her in the 21st century. I know that it was mentioned why William felt he couldn't, but his mother and sister were both taken care of, so that wouldn't have been as big a factor. Overall though it was very enjoyable and a quick read.
It was a sweet romance but I thought it needed I bit more. There was a lot more telling than showing as my English Professors would say. Words of love and whatnot but I didn't quite believe it.

If Mattie was really in love with William I don't understand why she cared so much more about loosing technologies from the future. I felt like she should have focused more on what she would be gaining. When she and William weren't together anymore all of a sudden none of that mattered but the author did not address Mattie's fears in a way I found to be logical.
This was a great beginning to a promising 3-part series. Mattie wishes on the moon to be loved by the man in her book; At the exact moment, in another time and place, the man she is wishing for is also wishes for her, but he doesn’t know it. They come together and fall in love. As the old saying goes...the rest is history.
I really loved Moonlight Wishes In Time. It was excellent, it had time travel, history, and love. I have to say, the little twist at the end was a big WOW to me and my favorite part. I can't wait to read the next book in The Moonlight Wishes In Time Series!...Stormi
Was a good quick read. Poor girl was a fish out of water!! All the lies I was afraid was going to be spilled when the American showed up!! Yikes!! When she went back I was so upset!!! Love the ending!!! He was so uptight!!! I loved to see him finally act like he had feelings!! Kind of hinted at first that he might but took a while for him to thaw to me!! She is modern and I know I would have had the hardest time not saying what I thought or jumping into peoples face and say hey what the heck is going on!!!
I have never read a book about time traveling before. I actually would never have thought I would like such a book. This book was so amazing! I couldn't put it down. I read it in less than 24 hours. The characters will draw you in, and you'll fall in love with all of them. I laughed, I cried, this book moved me. Bravo!!!
I read this in one day. It was a nice escape from reality, and the writing wasn't bad either. These kind of books are always predictable it we all know going into them. Like I said before they are our little reality breK
I'm probably giving a higher rating than I should because I found this book by luck of the draw and was so pleasantly surprised that it was clean, well written and included both points of view. It was too simple for 5 stars but a really sweet, easy regency romance/time travel read.
I really like it , fell in love withe characters,, not many books can bring me to tears ,an laugh at the same time . I would recommend this book to all my friends,, thanks Bess,,
