Simply is an ironic title for a book of poetry that has insight and depth, alongside poems that are more fun and family oriented. One poem that truly resonates is "Barren." Sparse and profound, this poem speaks to any woman or man who cannot accomplish what they feel they were born to do. This book of poetry is one that speaks to all readers! It illustrates passion, hope, despair, longing, and simple emotions we face each day. I highly recommend Mathews'' debut book and look forward to reading more from her.

I really quite enjoyed reading this book. The poems may seem a bit simple, but frankly, that's what I like most about them. For even in their simplicity, they manage to tell stories and have caused me to think about each and every one of them. I know the author, and with certain poems I can't help but wonder who she was writing about, what the motivation was behind each stanza of each poem. as soon as I received the book, I started reading it and refused to put it down until it was finished (not a very hard thing to do, it was a quick read, and well worth the time spent reading it). It was a book of all sorts of poems. Poems that made me smile, poems that made me want to cry, and poems that simply made me nod my head in agreement as if to say, "I know how that is." "Simply: A Collection of Poetry" is more than just a book about poetry, it's a book about life.

I really like this book of poetry because it shows her life in such good words and I can feel a lot of the poetry in the heart. I can tell she don't care if people judge her and puts her personal life right out their. It shows you that she's a teacher, a coach and a regular person. I love her, she's my favorite teacher and I love how she writes. It shows how passionate and unique she is with every poem that she did. From being her student at one point you just see her as a teacher but this book helps you get a real description about her life and who she really is.
